Sara has come from a long line of Starfleet officers from both sides of the family. She spent some time on various starships as a child while her parents lived the Starfleet life. Once her parents became Admirals she spent the rest of her childhood mainly in San Francisco, California. She has always had an aptitude for science and math. However, she has never let her intelligence go to her head. She was taught by her parents to be kind to others and to uphold a strong value system, including virtues such as honesty, integrity, and respecting others. Her parents made it clear that her future was hers to decide, and they were not going to force her to join Starfleet. But for Sara, there was no doubt in her mind that she would join. She believed in the ideals of Starfleet and wanted to be a part of their mission.
Sara’s flare for science and math coupled with her strong work ethic brought her to the top of her class. She graduated from the Academy with a major in science and a minor in engineering. Sara was also valedictorian of her class.
Her first posting was the USS Hermes as the an engineer officer. Life on the Hermes proved to be a very high paced with nearly constant front of the line type action. Sara was kept busy with repairs of the ship on a constant basis and was faced with extreme emergency situations on nearly a weekly basis. She became very close with the crew and worked hard to keep ship and crew as safe as possible in every situation. Her dedication to the crew and consistent hard work and valiant actions in times of extreme danger earned her a fast track in rank making First Lieutenant within two years of service.
She moved from engineering to operations; becoming assistant chief of operations and continued to serve ship and crew diligently. Sara gave birth to her first child in the Hermes sickbay on December 2, 2388. In August of the following year she was offered and accepted a post on the science vessel USS Hawking as assistant chief of science. Sara’s first love had always been in the sciences and she was thrilled for the posting on a state of the art science vessel.
The change to a new vessel also benefited Sara’s husband, Jairryn, who after their marriage in 2388, had taken a leave from active duty in order to be stationed with his wife on the Hermes. He had paused his Starfleet career and served as a civilian teacher to the children on the Hermes while his wife continued her career. The transfer to the Hawking, however, allowed Jairryn to return to active duty; taking the assignment of security officer for the Hawking.
In september of 2390 Sara was promoted to Chief of Science. Her assignment on the Hawking allowed her the freedom to work several scientific projects and to explore her own interests. Sara published several research articles and was given various science awards including the Science Excellence and Discovery award for her breakthrough involving dark matter.
Her family flourished on the Hawking with both her and her husband ranking to Lieutenant Commander. She gave birth to their second child in the sickbay of the Hawking on September 21, 2390. Being primarily a science vessel, the Hawking has served as a warm, welcoming place for Sara and her family.
Although Sara loved every minute of the past 6 years on the USS Hawking and enjoyed her many research projects--she decided she missed the tactile component of fixing broken things and making a difference in ship functionality. She wondered if there were a way to still pursue her interests in science, yet fulfill her yearning for the mechanical side of things as well. After a lengthy discussion with her husband, the two began searching for open positions at kid-friendly locations around the fleet.
In April of 2395, they were both offered a position on the Starbase Everest: Sara as Chief Engineer and Jairryn as Chief of Security. They are both excited for the change, especially since they both know the Captain very well. Captain Darz was roommates with Sara at the Academy, and Jairryn grew up with her on Betazed. However, even though they are great friends with the Captain, they do not expect to be treated any differently than the rest of the crew--and would not have it any other way.

Sara is a warm; friendly individual who has a natural compassion toward others. She enjoys spending time with others and getting to know new people. Sara is generally likable and easy to get along with. In fact, most people are hard pressed to find things they dislike about her.
