Subject: Acting Captain's Log USS Hermes NCC-4501-G
On SD1704.25, Starfleet ordered the Hermes to escort the scout ship Jaguar II back to Erasta XII. I regret to report that while in transit to the planet, the Jaguar II exploded due to unknown causes. My sincere condolences go out to their friends and family. Full reports regarding the incident are in Chat Log SD1705.02.
Preliminary analysis of the sensor logs sent by the Jaguar II prior to its destruction shows evidence of ship movement in the area. We soon learned was an alien vessel. On SD1705.02, this alien vessel attacked, bringing down our shields and boarding. They were treated as hostile and security was given orders to stop them by any means necessary. The invaders were subdued and we were able to stop their attack.
This alien race is known as the Turians and the leader of the invading force was known as Nihilus Kryik. He informed us that they were in search of a deadly organism, capable of eliminating entire civilizations, which originated from Erasta XII. They believed the only way to be sure the organism was eradicated was to destroy everything that came into contact with the planetâs surface. We were able to come to an agreement with the Turians that they would cease and desist if the Hermes agreed to comply with their quarantine procedures.
Turian quarantine procedures have begun as of SD1705.02 and will conclude on SD1705.09. Details of their quarantine procedures are enclosed. An official file regarding the Turian species as well as all knowledge they have collected on the Erasta XII organism in question are enclosed.
Given our knowledge of the circumstances and direct relationship with the Turians, I recommend that Starfleet send the Hermes accompany the Turian vessel back to Erasta XII in order to contain and/or eliminate the organism. The Turian Shanxi High Council as agreed to meet with Starfleet High Command in order to discuss the implications of this incident.
