Simon A. Trent was created by the Vulcan Science Academy by the Genetic Research department, by an infiltrated Romulan spy. Originally constructed to infiltrate Starfleet itself on an unknown mission, Trent broke free of his programming, and is currently a decorated officer serving on Space Station Nigala. At his request, and at the request of Starfleet Intelligence, this record is currently listed as EXTREMELY classified.
Trent was created by a high security section of the Genetic Research department specifically created for the research of creating life. His genome is unique in so far that it is not based on the double helix, but instead a triple helix where the extra strand is actually a uniquely designed nanocomputer that regulates, modifies, and enhances his genetic structure, causing him to be able to adapt within moments.
It was decided that he would need social interraction, so he was given to normal Vulcan parents, under the cover story that he was an orphan, however, it was apparent that he was no ordinary child, espeically after he was accepted at the age of 12 to the Vulcan Science Academy, however, it is probably due to the project that he gained entry.
Trent was named for Simon of Trent, a martyred child who was born and died in the late 15th century. Why he carries this name, it is unclear, however, again, it might be due to the genetic project as the logical reason for this.

Trent was finished through the Academy faster than anyone in previous history, gaining advanced degrees in the time it would normally take to achieve normal ones. For a list of his degrees, please see below.
Spending the next 10 years at the Academy undertaking his own research projects, he decided that he was no longer suited to the academic life, and decided to enter Starfleet as a Cadet at the age of 26. Starting at Starfleet Academy at what appears (at least for a human) to be older than normal caused him difficulties with his peers.
He left the academy 4 years later as an Ensign, and was assigned to the Space Station Nigala, originally in her science department, however, his internal drive, and perhaps due to no small part to the main nanocomputer in his cerebral cortex, he strove for more, becoming her Operations Manager, and eventually her Chief Engineer.

Personality:
The last three years have taken their toll on Trent. At first outward appearance, he looks like some sort of odd Vulcanoid, however, once inside the outer shell, one finds a deeply caring, and fiercely loyal man. Not content with simply being average, and perhaps in no small way to his internal drive and determination. In his limited off time, he spends that time inside the holosuite recreating ancient earth Japanese battles with the safeties off, or inside his lab continuing to develop the HyperPADD project for eventual release once it is past prototyping phases.

Drive was patented, and used by Starfleet in construction of the USS Relativity (launched 200606.11, drive lost 200809.27)
199701.10-199912.27 Tested and verified earlier work on new engine, using a different fuel source, quark/anti-quark interaction. At first harnessing the quark and anti-quark were next to impossible, but new insight from an earlier paper opened the door to the answer.
