After receiving average grades in elementary and secondary school, Kyle entered the University of Kentucky’s nursing program, hoping to follow in his mother’s footsteps as a Registered Nurse. After receiving his Bachelors Degree, Kyle was persuaded to join Starfleet by his life partner, Brian Barr, who serves on the USS Rio Grande. STARFLEET CAREER: Since Kyle entered Starfleet with a degree at another institution, he had to take 8 weeks of Starfleet Officer Training before being admitted to the Masters of Science in Nursing program at Starfleet Academy. After studying at Starfleet Academy for 2 years and completing a thesis on the benefits of nursing in Starfleet, Kyle graduated the Academy. Kyle was offered the unique opportunity to sit for the Nurse Practitioner Licensing Examination, which he passed, enabling him to provide direct patient care in a limited fashion aboard starships. This means that, under the supervision of a licensed physician, Kyle can examine, diagnose, and treat a variety of patients.
