Sarina is in excellent physical shape. Her workout schedule is rigorous and varied. She enjoys walking, running, hiking, swimming and many other physical activities. She is keen to try new things, but she does not take unnecessary risks.
Background Information
Sarina was born on Betazed into a long line of Starfleeters. Due to complications during Sarina's delivery, Patience was unable to have any more biological children. Sarina grew up as an only child, however she was not spoiled or coddled. Her parents were strict and expected impeccable behavior from their only child. Sarina flourished under their rigid command style parenting. She learned when to take orders without question, as well as when to challenge orders.
Growing up, her parents were constantly on the move so it was always challenging to form long lasting friendships with peers her own age. Even so, she did have one companion throughout most of her young adult life, and that was her bonded mate, Derrick Lanthrop. When he wasn?t around, reading, exploring, and listening to her parents talk business were all ways she learned to cope with her solitary life.
At her earliest opportunity, she entered medical school and majored in deep space medicine. In medical school, she took on a grueling schedule so that she could graduate sooner than was normal for most students. She didn't want medical school to slow down her entrance into Starfleet Academy.
After graduating from medical school, she entered Starfleet Academy and easily fell into step with the high demands of Academic life. Finally staying in place for more than a few weeks or months, and not being so busy with a demanding schedule, Sarina was able to form a few very deep friendships. Although she had a healthy dating life, she never was able to form an intimate attachment that lasted longer than a few months.
Once she graduated from Starfleet Academy, Sarina began serving on the U.S.S. Determination, a medical ship. She stayed onboard for several years, and eventually earned the title of Chief Medical Officer.
On the Determination, she began dating the First Officer, Charles Miner. After they had dated for eight months, they announced their engagement. Everything seemed to be going quite well until the couple had a very serious fight. Commander Miner ended up being treated for a broken jaw and Lieutenant Jade was treated for a broken hand.
Shortly afterwards, Sarina resigned from Determination and asked to be reassigned. While waiting for reassignment, Sarina returned to Betazed to visit family and recover. During her visit, the Cardassians and Dominion invaded Betazed.
At first Sarina tried to keep to herself, waiting for the Federation to help free them. When she realized that the Federation couldn't save them alone, she joined the underground resistance. Her medical skills were desperately needed as most of the members of the underground were suffering from malnutrition and diseases associated with poor living conditions.

When the underground decided to use the telepathic mass murderer Tevren, Sarina almost left the underground. Like others, she had serious reservations about Betazeds turning to using their minds for killing their captors. In the end, she received the training and participated in the coordinated attack on the Dominion and Cardassians. The attack was successful, but the price to Betazoids emotionally and physically across the planet was high.

Upon being freed from the occupation, Sarina was posted to the U.S.S. Hawkins as Chief Medical Officer. Sarina was content to serve in that capacity for many years, rising in ranks to Lieutenant Commander. She also became quite respected in the field of Deep Space Medicine.
After several years on the Hawkins, Sarina felt as if she wasn't going anywhere. She explored the possibility of teaching at Starfleet Academy, a different ship, working at Starfleet Medical, or moving into Command. She ultimately decided that she needed to pursue Command in order to expand her horizons.
Psychological Profile:
Miss Jade presented herself for psychological review on stardate 10.03.02. Miss Jade had previously been in counseling on board the U.S.S Hawkings for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and moderate depression relating to the occupation of Betazed. She admits to being an overachiever and workaholic.
While she admits to still having nightmares about her experiences during the Cardassian Occupation of Betazed and being afraid when she is alone in cramped, dark places she is well on the road to psychological wellness. I do not suggest continued counseling for Miss Jade, but scheduled counseling sessions based on her PTSD episodes.
PSI Abilities:
Sarina is fully telepathic and empahtic with a rating in the top 10% of telepathic abilities. Her mental shields were tested to be in the top 25% of mental abilities.
