STARDATE 96076.12
Lieutenant Commander Eileen Shodan
Chief Medical Officer of the USF Potemkin
BEGIN DUTY LOG
We were joined by one of our new recruits, Ensign Orien9. He is my medical
assistant. I think he will do quit well here on the Potemkin. He is
extremely
polite and well-mannered. I like that in an officer.
Our day began rather strangely. We had only four of our crew show up for a
sim.
At first, we decided to start with us and continue with our storyline (the
Morris
Sub-Space Array). But, someone who said he was USFScott told us to join the
Agamemnon sim. I did not want to. I never have fun there. I really hope we
stay
with our own sim next time, even if we only have four people. While I really
like everyone on the Agamemnon (I have many good friends there, including
Shearn and Wit), it is just not fair to our crew. When we finally decided to
join
them, they had been simming for 20 minutes already. They had an established
plot line going, and we didn't know what it was.
Once we joined the Agamemnon, the Potemkin was taken over by aliens (the
aliens from Independence Day movie). So, we spent our time fighting them off
and freeing the Potemkin. I would rather have done that in the privacy of
conference room Orbital Velocity of the NAGF forum.
I would really like to know where were all of our crew members, especially
our
beloved commanding officer, Captain Putty. Commander Badon, Lieutenant
Brand, Ensign Orien9, and myself were the only Potemkin crew members who
showed up. We realize that July is vacation month, but we would really
appreciate being notified about expected absences. Two people (Clewan and
Tasha) had excused absences.

for membership in the federation. they had reached technology level 6, so
they had limited interstellar travel capabilities. I was put in charge of a
team to get the Run Abouts ready for the journey to the planet.
Shodan, Lt..uh..Lt..., well i forget her name, and I were going to the planet
via shuttle craft to start negotiations about membership. however this was
not to be. A band of fighters attacked us, and we had
to go to(forgive me. i have a bad memory).
We were begining preperations to land and then

EnsFrank1 was promoted to Lieutenant Junior Grade. Congratulations, Frank!
Our mission was a First Contact mission. I was incredibly excited over this
prospect. There were two worlds that we were to go to. The first was
Deresta,
which is a scientific community. The second was the Kaynik, who were
warlike.
Both worlds had achieved Technology Level 6 (limited interstellar
capabilities).
The latest information on their weapons capabilities put them at accelerated
particle weaponry.
Commander Badon ordered every department to do run a level three diagnostic.
EnsOrien9 (med asst) and EnsKalla (couns) assisted me in prepping Sickbay.
Captain Putty ordered Frank to prepare two shuttles for diplomatic and
possible
combat missions. I was instructed to cosmetically/surgically alter the away
teams to look like Derestan and Kaynik humanoids.
Badon led the first away team. Assisting him were Orien, Kalla, and Saxton..
This away team went to the Deresta homeworld. I got to lead the second away
team, which was supposed to go to the Kaynik homeworld. LtJgFrank, Enszbw,
and visiting officer LtTamletd were on my shuttle. Shortly after we left the
Potemkin, a "welcoming party" of Kayniks, numbering in the hundreds, came at
us. Captain Putty ordered me to bring my shuttle behind the Potemkin, as we
were not in a position to dock (our course had already taken us at an angle
away
from the ship). My crew was nervous about nearing the Potemkin because they
were having problems with the warp core. I was soon ordered to fly to the
Deresta homeworld, where we landed.

The mission began with the ship on its way to the Derestra system. There, we
will scout 2 potential UFP members, the Derestra, a scientific culture, and
the Kaynik, a warrior race. Both of these species have reached Tech Level 6,
now it is up to the away teams led by Badon and Doc to determine if they meet
the other criteria of a Global Gov't, century of peace, civil rights, and a
78% social development on the Federation scale of Ethics.
Like I said earlier, Badon and Doc each took an away team to one of the
planets each. The Potemkin stayed back and kept an eye on things, but then,
and I'm attempting to avoid a very bad pun, but things got a little hot.
After we dropped out of warp, the engines didn't know we stopped and we
continued to generate power at Warp 8 equivalents, thus over-heating the
core. Warp recommending venting the plasma, running at apprx. 6 million
degrees, through the already-brittle-enough coils. I reminded him
of the consequences, and also told him that if he even tried it he would be
replacing those coils himself, then I was struck by an idea. I shut down the
injectors, thus stopping the core from producing any more plasma. Then I had
that plasma routed into the nacelles, where they are currently saturating the
engines. Since the plasma has lost some of it's charge, when we
re-initialize the engines for warp speed, the engines will have to send a
charge through the nacelles and burn off the remaining
plasma. According to my calculations, we would engage the engines at W5 and
decrease to 4.97 until the rest of the plasma has been sent through the
system and reached the nacelles. After that, we can go however fast we feel,
except for when we have to obey any speed limits.
During the mission, we also had an encounter with the Kaynik "Welcome Wagon."
Apparently, they were just a tad bit hostile towards us.
On a brighter side, Frank Hernandez has been promoted to Jg.
Congratulations.

BEGIN DUTY LOG
We had the crew from the Agamemnon join us today. That was so very sweet of
them. It was also incredibly sweet of us to let them join our sim. Captain
Jayla
and Commander Shearn had excused absences, so that is why it was necessary
for the Agie group to join us.
I started where I left off last week. I was on the planet Deresta with my
away
team (Frank and zbw). Commander Badon (acting captain due to the excused
absence of Captain Putty) ordered us back to the Potemkin. We had a little
bit
of difficulty docking, I believe because there was a Kraynik fleet attacking
the
Potemkin (or maybe they were just trying to attack but not really
succeeding).
When I got back to MY Sickbay, I found that Lieutenant Nomist (the
Agamemnon's Chief Medical Officer) had made a terrible mess in MY Sickbay.
I made that rotten creep clean it up. He then displayed further
insubordinate
behavior. I hope I never have to endure him in my Sickbay again.

USS Potemkin
Begin Log
With Capt. Putty called away for official business, and Cmdr. Badon leading
the first AT, with Shodan's team en route to the ship, this left me in
command for the mission. I was only supposed to be in the chair for ten
minutes while Shodan's team returned, but something happened to make her stay
in Sickbay the entire time.
We encountered a vessel of unidentifiable origin, most like the Kaynik
homeworld. The ship took a threatening posture while we manuevered in to
allow the shuttle to enter quicker and easier. Once on board, Shodan went to
sickbay, Frank went to Engineering, and everyone else, including those who
joined us from the Ag, stayed at their posts. Wit returned for the night to
assume XO duties, Brian took control of Tactical, Nomist was the acting Doc,
and Europa was still at helm.
After the shuttle returned, we dropped back to a safer position and waited
for the vessels that were chasing Doc and company. There were apprx. 17
ships, with the power of about a Type VII each. We had an advantage until
that ships big brother showed up. About the size of a Galaxy class and about
as mean, they were determined to destroy us. They almost did. In the
ensuing battle, we took a lot of damage. We almost lost an entire deck when
Phaser bank 3 went, and we almost had two core breaches in a
matter of fifteen minutes. I'm not completely sure of the casualties, but I
can only assume that they have been taken care of. There were also a couple
explosions on the bridge. One was at Tactical, which sent Brian to the
ground. Another was near the Helm/Ops positions. Amazingly, we did enough
damage to cause the ship nicknamed "Godzilla" to blow to bits. Now it is
time to repair the damage and eventually pick up Badon and Orien from their
mission.

Today the team on Deresta made progress and was headed twards a major
city after meeting with a local farmer. The group desguised as Kaynik headed
back to the ship and due to the fact that the Deresta travel in groups of 2,I
had to go pick up EnsKalla and bring her back to the ship.
Upon returning to the Potemkin I headed to engineering where Frank was
testing a core shielding program. A few moment later the Potemkin was
attacked by more Kaynik ships. EnsRiker was sent out in a Runabout with a
squadron of marines.
Riker was called back after saving ZBW from a Kaynik fighter. I managed to
beam ZBW out just as he had ejected.

BEGIN DUTY LOG
We were very happy to welcome aboard a new Ensign, EnsRiker14, who joined
us for the first time tonight. He is our new Assistant Tactical Officer. I
am very
sad to say that we have lost our helm/comm officer, EnsEuropa. Hopefully,
this
loss will only be temporary.
Captain Putty requested and received a small support fleet to deal with the
species known as the Kaynik. This left us free to deal with the species
known to
us as the Deresta. Their homeworld is called Booballa. Commander Badon,
Ensign Orien, and Ensign Kalla are still on the Deresta's planet, Booballa.
Badon
noticed that the Deresta always travel in pairs, so he ordered Ensign Kalla
to
beam up, so the away team wouldn't look out of place. Ensign Gringo took a
shuttle to go get her (the Potemkin was too far away for a transport).
I was in Sickbay the entire time. My dog, Duchess, was giving birth to
several
puppies. The puppies were all quite healthy, however, Duchess suddenly
started
having symptoms of the canine equivalent of eclampsia.
Captain Putty showed us a map of this sector. The Kaynik fleet was a mass of
tiny red dots, and we were the blue dots. Also part of the blue dot ships
were:
USS America, Breckenridge, Repulse, Richelieu, Alexander, Badon, Shodan,
Mondox. The Badon was particularly good at offensive attacks.
Badon and Orien had entered the Deresta city on Booballa. Captain Putty
called
Badon to report that a Kaynik drop ship had landed near them. Badon and
Orien
were fired upon and became injured. They were transported to Sickbay because
Gringo was able to get a lock on them. Putty activated the shuttle's
automation
systems and brought it back to the Potemkin.
Captain Putty ordered Ensign Riker14 to prepare a squad of marines and a
runabout. Riker led the squadron with a 10 fighter escort. Zbw was Riker's
wingman. Zbw's ship was destroyed in a fire fight with the Kaynik, but he
safely
ejected. Gringo was able to get a transporter lock on him and beam him back
to
the Potemkin.

be
repaired or if they must be trashed for parts.
My dog, Duchess, is one of my patients. She has just delivered her puppies.
She
is in canine distress. Her heart rate is erratic, and her blood pressure is
soaring.
She had delivered five puppies. It was then necessary for me to use the
emergency medical transporters to beam the rest of her undelivered puppies
out.
Crew members who are in Sickbay include Commander Badon and Ensign Orien.
They both have phaser wounds. Badon appears to the be worst injured. His
injuries are critical. I have placed him in the intensive care unit. He

Helm Officer's Log, First Mission, Part 1
The Potemkin Traveled to Deresta for a diplomatic talk with Deresta officials
on their entrance to the UFP. Although I have not had much prior contact
with the Deresta, I fear that something could be amiss. Perhaps it is their
reluctance to reveal information or their undying love of privacy in their
orbit which has presented an aire of mischievity to me.
For the beginning of this mission I was stationed as the helm officer. We
entered the Derestan system and entered a standard orbit around Deresta.
When it was the Captain's wish that an away team be sent down to the planet,
I switched orbits to Synchronous, and maintained relative position above the
away team at all times. Because of the gravitational pull on the ship, it
was necissary to make minor course corrections during each phase of
transitional axis transversal.
During this time it was necissary to reconfigure the user interface for
optimum efficiency. Routine configurations occurred every 30 minutes, and
during the first part of the mission, 32 routine comm messages from the
Agamemnon came in, and were directed to the acting captain's console. 4
other direct comm links were achieved during the mission with the captain on
the surface.
At one point 2 Kaynik ships came into sensor range, and I began to program
possible advanced manuevers in case of an emergency. However, the 2 ships
retreated to outside sensor range when they detected 2 Federation starships.
I rerouted partial auxiliary power to the impulse engines and reconfigured
the user interface when Yellow alert was issued and the captain beamed back
on board.
I have layed in a direct course for the Kaynik homeworld, and the Potemkin is
ready to engage on the Captain's Mark. I have full confidence in Ens
Eddison, my temporary helm replacement, and his abilities, so I have, for
now, retreated to my assigned quarters aboard the Potemkin.

Ensign Robert Mason straightened his red-shouldered jumpsuit as he entered
his new quarters on the Potemkin. He knew 2 years at Starfleet School of
Tactical and Advanced Navigation would earn him a good posting. And this was
the post all those in his class yearned for. Chief Helm Officer of the USS
POTEMKIN. He liked the sound of it.
The doors parted in front of him. He entered what was to be his new home.
The quarters were not standard Junior Officer's quarters- as he had imagined.
The quarters were senior officer's quarters- private, and with a private
bathroom and replicator. Mason smiled. He knew he would like his tour of
duty on the POTEMKIN.
He unzipped the chest zipper on his jupsuit, revealing the grey collared
turtleneck underneath as the doors closed behind him. He looked around.
There were three rooms. Living room, complete with couch, recliner, "coffee
table", Desk Mounted Display Device, and comm screen embedded in the wall.
There was a dining room, with table and 4 chairs, replicator, kitchen, and
countertop. The Bedroom was off to the left, containing a bed, bookshelves,
personal closet, equipment locker, and small desk and
chair with another DMDD (and a user interface in the desk itself), and an
adjoining bathroom with sonic shower, sink, and small cabinet.
He walked to the closet and dropped his pack. He unpacked his other uniform,
a two piece outfit with red on the torso, two of his favorite sweatshirts,
two pairs of artificial denim jeans, som socks, a pair of synthetic rubber
soled "sneakers", and a Tacical training jumpsuit, a black and grey outfit
complete with Tactical gear and traction shoes. He opened the empty closet
and placed each item in one by one, and then placed the empty pack on the
floor of the partially filled closet. He would get all
other needed garments from the replicator.
He walked into the bathroom and took a shower, shaved, and "freshened up".
He changed into his "London Kings" sweatshirt, baggy on his slim, muscular
body, and ordered short trousers from the replicator. What came out bore the
Starfleet parabola, but he changed into the trousers anyway. He placed his
uniform in the replicator for cleaning, and then replaced it in his closet.
He was now dressed for a quiet evening "at home".
He walked slowly to the small, .8 meter tall equipment locker, and opened it,
thinking it would be empty. It wasn't. It would appear that Cpt O'Brien
read his file, because in the locker were 2 tricorders (1 Tactical). Also in
the locker was a Type IV Phaser Compression rifle with scope, and a Type II
Personal Phaser sidearm. Tucked toward the bottom of the lockers inside were
extra power cells for the recharging of the rifle. Mason smiled and closed
the door, locking it with a touch to the keypad
on it.
He went into the dining room and walked toward the replicator. "Eggplant
Parmisian," he stated clearly.
"That food suppliment has not been programmed into the memory banks of this
replicator," came the reply from the computer which sounded, oddly, so much
like the Heir to the Sacred Chalace of Rings, Holder of the 5th House on
Betazed...
He didn't have the energy to program it now. He would do it tomorrow, after
his shift. "Fine. Then I'll have a Hot Chocolate," Mason said anxiously,
"You do know how to make that, right?" The rhetorical question was answered
with a shimmer as the Hot Chocolate materialized in a grey metallic mug
bearing the Starfleet parabola. He took the drink, placed it on the table,
allowing it to cool, while he slipped on his socks, which bore the Starfleet
Academy motto- Ex astris, Scientia, or, From the stars,
knowledge. He went back to his drink, took it, and sat down on the couch.
[Return to Archives | Return to Listing ]
"Computer- play Beetoven's 'Moonlight Sonata', 7 decibals in volume." The
piano sonata began to play softly over the speaker system, and Mason closed
his eyes, listening. He would have to get a real piano... He decided to ask
about it tomorrow, maybe a replicated one? Oh well, he thought, and lost
himself in thoughts of his new post.
He had found the controls somewhat unresponsive and clumbsy, but adequate.
he would have to remedy that tomorrow as well. He would re program the
entire user interface after his shift. But that would take at least an hour.
He could do it without shutting down warp drive, but he would still have to
get clearance from the Captain. He would get it. After all- the more agile
and responsive the controls, the greater the chance the POTEMKIN would escape
from any hostile situation unscathed. Mason knew
he was a good pilot- but skill can only do so much in combat- the other
factors are good control of the ship, the Tactical officer's talents, and, of
course, a little luck. He made a mental list.
1) Program Replicator
2) Ask about Piano
3) Ask for Reprogramming Clearance
4) Reprogram Helm Controls
That's it. I'll do it tomorrow. He took a sip of his drink. "Computer:
Decrease temperature in Mason's quarters by 7 degrees celcius and dim
lights." He had always like cooler temperatures. The computer chirped, and
he could hear the soft "whish" of fresh, cool, air coming into the quarters.
The lights dimmed. "Good," he said. "Very nice." He took one last sip of
his drink, placed it on the "coffee table", and fell asleep to Moonlight
Sonata.

My dog, Duchess, and all eight of her puppies have been released from

Commander Badon has come through surgery fairly well. He seems to have
developed a few complications. He is exhibiting signs of Witzelsucht Disease
(this is actually a real disease). For those of you whose medical knowledge
is
less than mine, Witzelsucht Disease is a condition produced by frontal lobe
lesions and characterized by self-amusement from poor jokes and puns (this is
actually true, I am NOT making this up).
Ensign Orien's phaser wounds have not been healed. He was ordered to
report on an away mission before I could tend to him. I did not immediately
tend to him because his wounds were only superficial and would not prevent
him from performing his duties (although he will probably be in a fair

BEGIN DUTY LOG
We were absolutely delighted to be joined by the crew of the USS Agamemnon.
Captain Putty led an away team to meet with the head of state of the Derestan
government. He took Ensigns Gringo, Zbw, Jrt, and Orien9 with him.
I spent the entire time in Sickbay trying to patch up Commander Badon. He
had
a rather too-large hole in his chest. Any size hole in the chest is too
large.
First Lieutenant Clewan was assigned the rather-large job of prepping the
warp
coils for swapout next week. Warp was given command of the Bridge (which
made several of us extremely nervous).
Ensign Gazh Q arrived to assist me in the nerve-wracking, stress-filled,
reconstructive surgery on the loquacious Commander Badon, a Saurian. Badon
had been struck by a phaser last sim on the home planet of the Deresta.
Saurians
have four hearts and gills on their backs that enable them to breathe
underwater.
Their skins require a great deal more moisture than the "average" humanoid.
Two
of Badon's hearts needed major repairs; the other two needed minor repairs.
It
should be duly noted that Badon does an excellent impression of a dead fish.
Captain Putty and the away team had quite a productive meeting with the
Derestan people. It seemed quite promising. They will be considered for
acceptance as members of the United Federation of Planets.
After long, grueling, exacting, sometimes tedious yet never boring micro and
macro surgery performed with the help of my new temporary assistant, Gazh,
and the Sickbay replicator, I was able to completely patch Commander Badon
up.
He is now conscious, however, he will remain in Sickbay for several days.

We continued our diplomatic mission to Derestra with Putty and a few others
going down to the planet to meet with the planets head of staff. Badon was
recovering from his wound last week, and Shodan was working on him. Since I
was busy preparing the Warp Coils for the upcoming swapout, this left the
bridge to Warp. Needless to say there were a few worried people, although I
had a feeling that Mitchell wouldn't crash the ship into a moon like some
others surely thought.
I arrived at the Port nacelle first. The prepping went on as scheduled,
except for coil 4, which needed to be repaired on the double. Since it will
be replaced within the next two weeks, we only did a quick fix. 1,000 light
years or your money back. For some reason, I have no memory of the rest of
the mission. (This is because I was punted and nobody noticed my absence.)
Hopefully it will come back to me one of these days.
As of this moment, the Warp coils are ready for swapout. According to
Starfleet records, the fastest time for a ship getting 36 coils swapped out
was the Roanoake, at UP, which took them 48 hours. I personally know the
Chief Engineer from that ship, and I would certainly like to break or tie
that record. With the preparations we have already made, that should cut the
time down at least 12 hours just to start with. Personally, I would like
this done in 24 hours, but that would be pushing it just a
little bit.

Lieutenant (JG) Mason's Duty Log
"Computer: Open Secure Channel: Authorization Mason 246 Alpha Omega."
"Channel Open."
"Begin Recording." Lieutenant Mason stepped back from the
Desk-Mounted-Display-Device (DMDD) and sat down on the couch with a cup of
hot chocolate he ordered from the replicator not long before. He opened the
chest fastener on his red shouldered jumpsuit. He placed the hollow pip he
had just earned on the white-lit "coffee" table in front of him.
"Today the USS POTEMKIN proceeded to intercept the enemy fleet. Manning
the Helm console, I piloted the ship into battle. Bringing the ship
alongside the enemy fleet in a strategically advanced position, I brought up
the subroutines of the new program I had designed to contron the POTEMKIN. I
studied the readings for anomalies. There were none, and I decided the ship
was ready for combat.
"Hailing the vessels I readied the controls. There was no responce, and
the enemy ships initiated the battle. Launching all shuttle-fighters, I ran
all the evasive programs save 3, and evaded numerous disruptor blasts. The
Keypad controls responded excellently, but I was unable to prevent some fire
from hitting the ship. Debris was also a problem, but a ship as big as the
POTEMKIN cannot be expected to navigate such debris, moving at a velocity of
nearly 1/2 impulse, one 1/16 lightspeed."
Lieutenant Mason put his feet up on the short table where his pip sat.
He sighed. He paused, and took a sip of hot chocolate.
"In the heat of combat, it became necissary to separate the ship, and
evacuate the majority of passengers and crew. Saucer separation was
initiated, and passengers and non-essential crew were evacuated to it. The
Executive officer took command, as a skeleton crew remained aboard the
stardrive section.
"While the Saucer evaded numerous disruptor blasts, the stardrive
section took the brunt of many more blasts, and it soon became necissary to
set the auto destruct system. Once this was set, there was nothing we could
do but pilot the ship as close to the remaining enemy crafts as possible.
This I did with reluctance, but did it none the less. I was able to pilot
the remaining part of the POTEMKIN to a distance of 600 meters, and leave the
ship on a slow collision course.
"Retreating to the shuttle bay with the rest of the bridge crew, save
the Captain, I entered the shuttle bay and huddled into the shuttle carrying
the battle bridge crew. I was somewhat apprehensive aboiut leaving, but
there was no more time. Evacuating the ship in the shuttle, I monitored the
shuttle's shields.
"Not long after the POTEMKIN was destroyed, a faint distortion was
detected off to starboard. We soon realized that it was Captain O'Brien,
piloting a shuttle fighter. Although the ship was lost, we prevailed, with
an acceptable loss of manpower and equipment. Had there been other ships on
the Federation side, it is my opinion the ship would not have been lost."
Mason sipped his hot chocolate again, and again, nearly finishing it.
He thought.
"I am very proud to report that I have received a promotion. I made an
oath to protect and defend the Federation at all costs when I graduated the
Academy. I make the same oath now, and swear to wear the uniform and the new
rank proudly, upholding the very ideals which are the cornerstones of the
United Federation of Planets."

BEGIN DUTY LOG-
When I arrived at engineering I was ordered to head to the saucer
section jeoffries tubes and repare a severed power conduit. I reluctantly
headed twards the engineering locker, collected the necessary tools in a
repair kit and donned the ever annoying yellow overalls with the name tag
"Gringo".
I had almost completed repairs on the power conduit when a red alert
siren rang through the jefferies tube,
*Personal note- Must remember to bring up subject of comm volumes at next
engineering meeting, those acustics almost left me defth*
began climbing down the runs when a blast of some kind sealed off the
way beneath me. I another hit loosened my gripp on the ladder and I fell two
levels to where the jefferies tube had been cut off by a broken off piece of
debry. I regained conciousness although I could not tell how much time I had
been out.
Within a few moments the evacuation to saucer section was anounced and
the saucer seperation sirens rang pearsingly through the jefferies tube. I
had been working on a power conduit connection from the saucer to the drive
section and found myself 5 decks below the saucer section. I immediatly
climbed back on the ladder ignoring my pain and began a dash upward, I could
not trust the sencors to detect me since I did not knop the extent of the
damage, The final warnings were being initiated just as I
was 2 decks below the saucer. I finally made it across the line and was
lucky my foot was not cut off by the closeing access hatch. Moments later the
loud sound of the saucer seperateing rang through the hull around me. I
decided to continue up a few decks while closeing the hatches behind me. I
had no desire to be 5 inches away from open space during what was obviously a
bad battle.
Once I was 3 decks and 3 hatches away I decided to attempt to make my
way back onto the halls of the ship, apparently we were hit a few more times
as I was tossed across the cramped compartments. After zigging and zagging
across broken hatches that wouldn't open and emergency forcefields, thinking
of how crazy the engineering staff must be right now, I finally reached an
access to some private quarters after what seemed like hours.
I climbed out of the jefferies tube and just then noticed we had been
hit in while, and since we seemed to still be alive the battle must have been
over. I left the quarters and since main engineering was no longer
accessible, I headed to the bridge. I got to a badly lit and badly damaged
excuse for a command center. Where I was informed that a Kaynik force
attacked us forcing us to scuttle the drive section. All the command crew
survived and minimal loss in life was suffered. I was also informed we
were now in tow twards a Star Base where the saucer would be decommisioned.
I was ordered to sick bay where the doctor and nurses where running
around working on more heavily injured people. I grabbed an emergency med kit
healed my broken arm and my few scrapes and bruises and left the doctors to
more important work. I had been considering heading back to the bridge to
recieve orders on what to begin fixing when I noticed that most of the
essential repairs had been completed and the rest of the damage was being
ignored due to the fact the dish was going to be decommisioned.
I turned back twards Sick Bay thinking I could help, I had taken some
emergency medical procedure training at the academy, for the credits, I
arrived at Sick Bay where I was quite happily accepted by the over worked and
understaffed medics.

MEDICAL DEPARTMENT REPORT
Submitted by Lieutenant Commander Eileen Shodan
Chief Medical Officer of the USS Potemkin
STARDATE 9608.19
Assistant: Ensign Orien9
Sickbay Status: Extremely heavy patient load. Sickbay has 302 patients.
All
medical tricorders have been repaired or replaced. The Sickbay Medical
Replicator is being stressed to its maximum potential output (which is not
enough for my current purposes). We are starting to have energy shortages
due
to blown fuses.
Sickbay is filled with many trauma victims. This is a direct result of the
attack
by the extremely large ship whose sole purpose in existing was to destroy the
USS Potemkin. It partially succeeded.
Captain Putty suffered severe radiation burns. Thanks to my incredibly
gifted
medical expertise, I was able to completely cure him. He has been released
from Sickbay and is back sitting in the Captain's chair.
I have placed an order for the new Sickbay on the new ship that we will
eventually get. I want more neural stimulators on hand. And I want a bigger
capacity replicator. I also want the Med Lab to be bigger and equipped with
the
latest developments.
Commander Badon is still exhibiting signs of Witzelsucht Disease.
Witzelsucht
Disease is a condition produced by frontal lobe lesions and characterized by
self-amusement from poor jokes and puns. Commander Badon's frontal lobe
lesions are gradually diminishing. I have directed the standard course of
treatment for him. I expect him to be cured soon. If he's lucky. He is
continuing his regular duties because this disease will not interfere with
his
ability to perform his duties to their fullest.
Ensign Orien's phaser wounds have been completely healed. He was able to
immediately return to duty and start healing casualties. I commend him on
his stamina and courage.

STARDATE 9608.19
Lieutenant Commander Eileen Shodan
Chief Medical Officer of the USS Potemkin
BEGIN DUTY LOG
I started the day by releasing Commander Badon from Sickbay after extracting
a
promise from to come back in later on for a check-up.
My medical assistant, Orien9, finally returned to Sickbay (he had been on an
away team to Deresta). So, I was able to heal his wounded leg. Before I was
done, we were at Red Alert. An extremely large ship (much large than the
Potemkin) was approaching. This ship's mission: to destroy the Potemkin
completely. total annihilation. Good thing Brand was here! Orien did an
extremely good job helping me prep Sickbay for the incoming casualties I knew
we would have coming in. And, like always, I was right. There were *many*
casualties, including my children and dog.
Commander Badon and Ensign Kalla helped evacuate the crew to safer decks. I
want to commend Commander Badon for his bravery in rescuing my children and
dog. He risked his life for them. And Duchess, my dog, helped Badon to
locate
my unconscious children. Duchess and Badon are both heroes.
After Kalla was finished evacuating crew, she came to Sickbay to assist us.
We
really needed her help. And we were extremely grateful to her for helping
us.
There were so many casualties to treat. I assigned her the task of first
assessment, deciding which patients needed immediate treatment and which
patients could wait. She did an excellent job.
Orien did an excellent job in healing many patients, including my children.
I am
very grateful for his medical expertise.
Incidentally, Captain Putty continued with his penchant for blowing ships up.
Only this time, he blew up *our* *own* ship. We separated the Saucer Section
from the Battle Bridge. The entire crew was on the Saucer Section. A
skeleton
crew was on the Battle Bridge, and Putty had them all leave before he blew up
the Battle Bridge. His fate remained unclear. We thought he had died and
were
already planning a memorial service when there was a temporal/spatial
distortion
off of the Potemkin's port bow. Putty miraculously appeared in his fighter,
alive, so Badon will have to wait a while longer before becoming a captain.
Captain Putty suffered severe radiation burns. Thanks to my incredibly
gifted
medical expertise, I was able to completely cure him. He has been released
from Sickbay and is back sitting in the Captain's chair.
Orien and Mason were promoted to Lieutenant Junior Grade. Both of these
promotions were well deserved. I wish we had more people like these two on
our ship. They are both fine, outstanding officers. This ship benefits
greatly
from their presence.

After leaving Kalla in our quarters I headed for the bridge aince we no
longer had an engineering to go to. I arrived on the bridge and found that
most of the engineering staff had assembled around the engineering panel and
Science 2 had been comverted to serve as an auxiliary power readout. We all
recieved our orders and were assigned as department heads in charge of the
Star Base engineering teams. I was assigned a couple of assistents and headed
down to the main computer core. I was going to have
to begin a memory transfer to SB Horizon and remove the actuall core from
the saucer, however the computers security defences do not allow a direct
transport without maually dissabling the security sub routines. We finally
finished the
memory transfer and disconecting the core from the ship and had begun neaming
the components to the SB's cargo bay, where it would be transfered to another
Excelsior class Starship in need of a new core.

Fst. Lt. Clewan Eric
USS Potemkin
::onboard temporary quarters at SB Horizon::
::sipping Bajoran Ale::Computer, Begin Duty Log.
::begin log::
Well, it finally happened. We went into a battle with a very little chance
of surviving, and most of us barely survived the battle, let alone the trip
home.
It all began when our Capt. decided to stay and take a defensive posture
against the Kaynik instead of leaving, like he was ordered to. Once we
detected the fleet, there was no choice but to prepare for battle. Red alert
was sounded, and as everyone went to their duty stations, Cmdr. Badon and
Ens. Kalla evacuated everyone to emergency shelter areas. Then the crap
really hit the fan.
The first Kaynik vessels attacked, causing moderate damage to the shields.
Since the loss of PB 3 two weeks ago, this proved to be even harder to hit
the semi-elusive fighters as they flew around like mosquitoes, biting us at
every opprotunity. The ship was taking heavy damage, with several hull
breaches on both the saucer and stardrive. A panel blew up about 3 meters
from my position, right next to JJ. He was alright, but things were getting
worse. With the next blast, we lost one of the plasma
conduits, and the entire area of Main Engineering was filling up with toxic
gas. I ordered all non-essential personnel to evacuate M.E. Mithell (a.k.a.
Warp) came down and started working on the leak while myself and everyone
else that was left kept working on the containment field, which was
dangerously unstable. Warp and I activated the ACB around the warp core,
just in case of disaster. It was about this time that a ship approximately
nine times our size appeared, and that's when we tried to run.
Without warp drive, Impulse failing, and thrusters not working for a damn,
Putty ordered everyone but a skeleton crew to the saucer while he seperated
the ship. We would have left from ME, but we couldn't. A blast to the aft
of the ship caused the coolant system to breach, dooming the entire ship.
Warp and I did all we could, but our best just delayed the inevitable. In
five minutes there was going to be a WCB, and I didn't want my engineering
staff anywhere near. I apprised the bridge of the
situation, and ordered the section evacuated. Right at this point, Putty
ordered the ship abandoned. I knew what he was planning, but his mind was
set and there was no way to persuade him otherwise. I went to the fighter
bay as fast as I could, jumping into the Shantal and busting my rear to get
out of there. While engaging some hostiles, I saw the greatest ship in the
fleet go up like a bonfire, destroying the big bad mama Kaynik nearby. The
saucer then detected a temporal distortion, which Putty
flew out of with his fighter.

I arrived at the landing bay and found that most of the crew was
already assembled around Putty. We were finally going to go to the new ship.
After way too much noise and way too much confusion we finally started to
board the shuttle carrier. We took off and headed out into the docking bay.
We were aproaching 2 large starships, one Galaxy class, and one Excelsior. I
was starting to feel dissapointed, I was really looking forward to working on
the Adventures dual engines.
Then we cruised over the 2 ships and there she was. The Adventure class
was twice as big as the other 2 ships and looked graceful and serene, as
though it was too magestic to pay any attention to the work crew buzzing
around her. We landed in the main bay and headed up to the bridge. Mason was
the first to get to toy around with the new ship, examing the helm with all
its new goodies. After a weapons demonstration I headed to engineering with
Warp to prepare for impulse speed. We left the StarBase
at full impulse and both engines pulsated in unison creating an amazing
soothing tone.
We are currently en route to the Romulan Federation Neutral zone.

Lieutenant Commander Eileen Shodan
Chief Medical Officer of the USS Potemkin
BEGIN DUTY LOG
Captain Putty issued new commbadges to all of us Potemkin crew members.
They are specialized by department in their backings and design as well as
department color.
Commander has a circle.
Medical has a Voyager-like backing.
Science has an open circle.
Tactical has a closed rectangle.
Engineering has three lines.
Everyone must remember these because there will be a test in two days. :-)
We christened our new ship, the USS Potemkin, NCC-1711-B. It is of the
Adventurer Class (I shall have to update the roster). It is equipped with
with
environmentally friendly warp nacelles, so we don't need to worry about
maintaining the warp limits set a few years ago due to damage to sub-space.
Some specs include: two warp cores, both ejectable, non-dependant; 72 decks;
impulse is run through warp engines at velocities over .80 C; cloaking
device;
Deck 42 = anti-matter storage; Deck 36 = Engineering; Sickbay = Deck 9, just
aft of the photorp loaders; Deck 45 = the Ilea Memorial Botanical Gardens
(named for our former counselor, LtCdrIlea); a modified runabout called the
Blakmon (named after our former XO, Captain Eddie Blackmon); 12 holodecks,
no Captain's Yacht; the Bridge is ejectable with impulse power and life
support
and minimal shields; in the middle of the floor between Ops and Helm is a
small
holo-projector, which is the 3-D NAV/TAC Map.
Captain Alexander O'Brien (aka Putty) supervised the entire construction of
this
vessel. We then tested the weapons, which worked perfectly. and astounded
everybody. Putty is actually every bit as warlike as Brand; it's just that
they
advertise themselves differently.
Gringo was promoted to Lieutenant Junior Grade. Badon and Shodan could not
be promoted, so they were awarded medals, The Nebula Cluster, as a reward for
their incredibly outstanding service.

Chief Medical Officer of the USS Potemkin
BEGIN DUTY LOG
I took the opportunity to test out the new Sickbay by giving Lieutenant
Junior
Grade Robert David Mason (our Helm/Communications Officer) a complete
physical. He seemed quite nervous, but I did my best to put him at ease. I
am
generally a comfortable person to be around. However, wearing a white lab
coat
scares off a lot of people. He told me "I get nervous and funny around
doctors,"
so, I tried to put him at ease. I'm not really sure if I succeeded. He may
be a
tough case. I suspect that when he's not having a doctor phobia, he could
have a
surprising sense of humor.
This male patient is 1/4 Betazoid (from his Mother, who is 1/2 Betazoid and
1/2
Terran) and 3/4 Human/Terran (father is Terran). His date of birth is
9-18-2349.
I asked him about the scar on his right cheek. He was rather evasive about
it and
didn't want a dermal regenerator applied to remove it. My curiosity was
quite
piqued, but he was still too nervous to open up about it. I also noted that
he has
an artificial heart. I absolutely insisted on learning the reason for this.
I told
him I will not release him from Sickbay until I get further details on that
(where,
when, why, who performed the surgery, etc.). (Sure, I have his previous
medical
history from the Academy, but I want his version of the incident.)
The Betazoid influence on Mr. Mason gives him some slight empathic abilities.
He can sense emotions, although not nearly as strong as a full empath can. I
did
notice a structural defect in his small but noticeable metaconscious. I
deduced
that it is this defect that prevents him from being fully empathic. I may be
able
to fix this defect, however, he will never have the talents of a full
Betazoid. His
eyesight was exceptional. His artificial heart is performing exactly per
specs.
To Be Concluded Later.

::Shodan takes her hand away and chuckles.:: So, that's how you want to be?

"Thanks, Doc," Mason replies as he gets off of the bio-bed and leaves.
Shodan turns to Dr. Quinn. "You were about to answer my question, Doctor?"
Dr. Quinn smiled, obviously embarrassed. "Well, actually," she started in
her
clipped British accent, "You're never going to believe this, but I was
playing
Pariscees Square."
"What!" Shodan stops examing Dr. Quinn to look at her incredulously.
"You're a

"Yes, I know. But I had never played before, and, well, I've heard so much
about
it that I thought it must be a fun game. So, when Lieutenant Riker asked me
if I
would like to learn how to play, I jumped at the chance. However, I don't
think
I'll be going back. I did not enjoy it. Although I did enjoy seeing Riker
sweat."
"You've got your eye on him, haven't you?" Shodan smiled.
"Yes, but don't you dare tell him that!" Quinn responded.
"Not a word," Shodan replied as the medical device she was holding fused
Quinn's bones together. "There, all set. You may be a little sore, blah,

"Yes, I know the routine. Thank you, Doctor." Quinn smiled.
"You are welcome, Doctor," Shodan responded.

BEGIN DUTY LOG
We began this mission with enroute to a Romulan Peace Summit on Romulus,
the homeworld of the Romulans. The Potemkin was sent because this ship is so
great that it is not likely to get destroyed in the event of a Romulan
ambush.
Also, we happend to have a few GREAT diplomats on board. <<of course I'm
not talking about our ops and chief tac/sec people.>> The crew was quite
excited at the propsect of peace, however, many remained wary. We entered
the
Neutral Zone and yellow alert. Since Lieutenant (JG) Mason wasn't available,
Commander Badon took over helm. First Officers are expected to be able to
assist in all departments.
I asked Lieutenant (JG) Orien to run a diagnostic on our new Sickbay
bio-beds.
He had already started and was about ready to complete the diagnostics. When
he was done, I asked him to help me check out our new, improved, vastly
expanded medical laboratory. It was much bigger than I had expected. I had
requested a bigger medical laboratory, but this was even bigger than I had
hoped
for. After this, we went into the Intensive Care Unit Ward. We started
running
diagnostics on the ICU equipment. I also asked Orien to prepare medi-kits.
Since we were near the Romulans, I thought we might need them. However, as
it
turned out, our ship suffered ZERO casualties. I want this to go on record
as
saying that we did NOT enter into a fire-fight. Our Captain and most of the
crew
behaved quite diplomatically.
Kalla was promoted to Lieutenant Junior Grade.

The mission began with the Potemkin on course for Romulus. on the way we
recieved a distres call. We dropped out of warp and beamed out as many of the
crew as we could. I set transporters to mass transport while Clewan set power
to 90%.
4 of the vessels crew were locked behind a collapsed bulkhead. LtjgMason
took a runabout. he beamed himself into the ships jeffries tube system and
extracted the four crew members to am area from which they could beam back to
the RNBT. mason had to hurry up and flew away from the warp core explosion in
what was one of the highlight of the mission.
Upon arrival onboard the Potemkin both the four crewmen and LtjgMason
were hurried to SickBay for radiation treatment. Shodan was able to save
evrybody so no casualties were felt.
We set course for Romulus again. Captain Putty now believes that we are
being shadowed by the cloaked BADON. If so they should show themselves when
we arrive at Romulus.

STARDATE 9609.07
Lieutenant Commander Eileen Shodan
Chief Medical Officer of the USS Potemkin
BEGIN DUTY LOG
We were tracking another vessel, the USS Badon, "the other Alexander class
vessel" (apparently there are only 2 Alexander class vessels, who the first
one is,
I've no idea.). The USS Badon is a suped-up (or "extensively modified")
vessel
that was stolen by some renegade Federation group. We proceeded at Yellow
Alert. We were en route to Romulus. When we were almost there, we
encountered a small cargo vessel. The cargo vessel was a Sydney Class
Transport ship.
Orien and I performed some routine maintenance in Sickbay. I wanted to make
sure the tissue regenerators were up to specs and check the bio-bed
read-outs. I
was then informed by Captain Putty that we would shortly be having incoming
casualties. So Orien and I stepped up our pace a bit.
Captain Tresh hailed us. Captain Putty informed him that we would beam all
of
his crew out and ordered Lieutenant Brand1 to do so. I asked the captian
what
species everyone was and was told they were all human. This helped Orien and
myself a great deal in prepping Sickbay. I guess the warp core on the cargo
vessel was in danger of exploding (I couldn't find it specifically in the
chat log).
Brand was able to get all but three people out. Three people were trapped in
their engineering section by the bulk-heads. Radiation interfered with
transport.
Captain Putty then ordered Lieutenant (JG) Mason to take a runabout to rescue
them. Mason performed heroically. All three trapped crew members of the
cargo vessel were saved.
I beamed all four of them (Mason + 3 crew) to Sickbay to be evaluated for
radiation poisoning. All four needed some decontamination. I asked
Lieutenant
(JG) Kalla to assist us in Sickbay. We had all of the crew members of the
cargo
vessel to examine, plus three critically injured cargo vessel crew members,
plus
an unwilling patient in Lieutenant (JG) Mason. I could tell that Mason was
affected by radiation because the scar on his cheek (the one he's so
secretive
about and won't let me heal) had turned a lovely shade of purple. I was soon
done
with Mason and released him from Sickbay - ready for duty. Kalla, Orien, and
myself worked on the other three critically injured patients. I put Kalla in
charge of triage.
The patient Orien was examining turned out to have more problems than just
radiation poisoning. His lymphatic system had stopped. His liver had
something
in it that didn't belong there, so we removed the entire damaged organ. I
had
Orien replicate a new one and perform the surgery necessary to place it in
the
patient while I examined the damaged liver.

Fst. Lt. Clewan Eric
USS Potemkin
Begin Log
My first complete mission aboard the new Potemkin started out with feelings
of regret. When the crew was briefed that an Alexander class ship named the
Badon had been stolen and was in the same area of space as we are, I
immediately began to wonder why that ship had been allowed to be stolen in
the first place. After hearing that the engine on that ship was working at
100%, I quickly began to contemplate our odds against this overpowered enemy
of ours that looks the same, talks the same, dresses the
same, and is the same as we are. If we were to take on the Badon 1 on 1,
our chances of surviving, let alone winning, are not good. Of course this
will just serve as wood for the fire that drives the capt. into half-brained
situations such as the battle against the Kaynik fleet. However, since we
are in a unique situation right now, within range of Romulus and talking
peace with them, I wouldn't be surprised if he requests Romulan assistance in
his upcoming battle with the Badon.
I also got my first good look at the engines. For a ship that just got out
of drydock, this ship is running surprisingly smooth. However, I am still
going to have routine diagnostics run on the engines twice as often as usual
for an older ship. They will continue until I am 100% sure about this ship.
Also, if memory serves correctly, the captain has scheduled a "refresher
course" for my staff because they didn't know every little detail about the
Badon's engine. That's not surprising, considering
that to my knowledge the information is still classified level 1. And when
something is that highly guarded, only a few people have access, and thats
only on a need-to-know basis.

STARDATE 9609.13
Lieutenant Commander Eileen Shodan
Chief Medical Officer of the USS Potemkin
BEGIN DUTY LOG
Our ship was still looking for The Badon ship. Captain Putty ordered the
senior
officers (himself, Commander Badon, me, First Lieutenant Clewan, and Ensign
Kalla) to the Captain's Ready Room for a meeting to discuss how to locate The
Badon ship. A few ideas were tossed around for locating her. Captain Putty
announced that tachyons wouldn't work. Another idea suggested was to flood
the
surrounding space with EM (Electro-Magnetic) radiation in hopes that it would
stick to their hull. Captain Putty said that wouldn't work because their
cloak
would stop the EM radiation, being that natural space was full of it.
Commander
Badon suggested that we give The Badon ship a target. It would have to
decloak
to shoot it. I suggested giving it our commander, but no one paid any
attention to
me. Captain Putty thought Badon's idea was excellent. First Lieutenant
Clewan
suggested we use a Romulan transport that would emit false sensor readings.
Captain Putty chose this idea, and it was done. The Romulan government was
more than willing to give us a transport. I think they had it to us before
we even
left the ready room.
Orien and I used damaged medical tricorders, wires, and other gadgets (odds
and
ends) to rig up something that would emit life signs (such as body heat,
respiration, etc. for various species) giving the impression that there were
living
beings of various species on the Romulan transport.
The ploy worked. We were able to capture The Badon ship. Remarkable Chief
Engineer First Lieutenant Clewan was assigned to lead an away team to repair
the
navigational arrays, etc. so that we could tow it back.

Acting Assistant Chief Engineer
(Sort of like the assitant to the assistant manager at your local McDonalds.)
BEGIN DUTY LOG- SD 9609.13
The mission began with our arrival at Romulus. Captain Putty arranged a
tacion detection net with the Romulan fleet. However due to the advanced
design of the Badon's cloak it was doubtfull that it would work.
The Engineering Dept. had a meeting to determine a way to detect the
cloaked ship. I came up with the idea to flood sorounding space with EM
radiation, higher than normal. The EM radiation would stick to the cloaked
ship's unshielded hull. Almost like a magnet. We could then trace the
increased "Blob" of EM radiation, giving us a lock which we could use to
target our weapons. The only way the Badon would be able to release itself
from the Em particles would be to raise shields, which would decloak
the ship. Since this was the only plan we could come up with Clewan went
into the senior officers meeting with this proposition. However the Captain
pointed out that this new cloak would be able to neutralize the "magnetic"
effects of the EM particles. Luckily Commander Badon came up with a plan to
give the Badon a target which would lure it into de-cloaking. We requested a
transport ship from the Romulan Govt. Doctor Shodan and Orien worked on a way
to create false life sign signals while the
engineering dept. worked on createing the appearance of an important
military payload. As well as program the transports computer and arm the
transport with a proximity mine which would blow up when the Badon appraoched
it.
Once the transport dummy ship was ready we launched it and almost
immediately got a response from the Badon. The Transports mine exploded on
cue, causeing the Badon's shields to drop. We immediately attacked useing our
Ion Blasters and Plasma Torpedoes, attempting to cause as little physical
damage while dissableing all its sytems. Once its shields were off-line,
mission specialist Vash led a task force to the Badon, capturing the rebel
crew and takeing command of the Badon. The Rebels were beamed
aboard the Potemkin and are being interrogated by Counselor Kalla and Vash.
Warp, Frank, and Eric have beamed onto the Badon to carry out repairs. I have
remained on-board the Potemkin for the time being.

Lieutenant Junior Grade Robert Mason
Chief Helm Officer, USS Potemkin
Duty Log
The mission was a success. As Helm officer my duties were fairly routine,
and included Standard Orbit Monitoring, as well as tractor beam operation,
and the Navigational Duties. Upon configuring the system for maximum
efficiency, I monitored the gravitational forces of the planet, as well as
the readouts of the inertial dampening systems- a system which is crucial
when orbiting a large planetary body. Analysis of the USS BADON
specifications revealed that the RCS thrusters responsible for Z axis
movement and navigation were somewhat slow and lacking in system responce
time. After proposing a navigational plan utilizing the z axis, which was
dismissed, The tractor beam was used to tow the Badon to a rendezvous point.
I was challenged, even if a small amount, during this mission, when I was
given command of the bridge in the other senior officers' absences. Routine
monitoring was performed, and small maintenance power allocations, but
nothing was done that would majorly affect the ship.
I am glad to say that the mission was a complete success, due to the teamwork
and work performed by the crew as a whole. It was, in my opinion, a textbook
mission completement, insofar as the minimum damage, and the crew itself.

Lieutenant Mason entered his quarters. The doors whooshed apart, as the
cool air of his quarters greeted him. The lights were out. "Lights," Mason
stated, and the bright lights shone in his eyes. ""Computer, dim lights" He
held his hand in front of his face to shield him, and the computer dimmed the
lights. Mason withdrew his hand, and walked into the bedroom. He undressed,
and stepped into the bathroom. He entered the sonic shower booth, and a fizz
of hot air sprayed upon him. He felt the
tingle of the clensing particles, and moments later he exited, completely
refreshed. He slipped on his "Kings" sweatshirt, and boxers. He lay down on
the bed, hands behind his head, thinking of his performance.
Maybe he wasn't ready for a promotion. Maybe he was wrong when he
thought he was. He remembered his performance during the last two missions,
and going over each moment in his mind, was unable to find a moment where he
did not act appropriately, in the best interest of the Potemkin, and for
Starfleet itself. Maybe the Captain had seen something in him- something
deeper, and he hesitated to act.... Mason trusted the captain's judgement,
and let the thought flow out of his mind.
He closed his eyes, and lay above the covers. He slowly drifted into
his own mind..... Into the past....
*****************
"What'd you get, Bob?" Cadet Greg Jameson asked Cadet Robert Mason.
The two had been friends ever since Mason was a boy, and they had attended
Starfleet Academy together, and now Starfleet Advanced Tactical and
Navigation School.
"It doesn't matter, Greg. It was just a pilot simulation." Mason
walked over to the bar of the "Streetcar Cafe" on Nimitz street in San
Francisco. Greg Jameson followed. They each wore a Starfleet Cadets'
uniform, which was not a rare sight so close to the Academy. Classmates and
other 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th year cadets passed them, and at times it seemed
that the pedestrians ceased being individuals, transforming instead into a
part of a great sea of moving people, shuffling, swaying side to
side, hurrying someplace. Mason sat down at the bar.
"Hot Chocolate, please." He smiled at the bartender, a smaller Bajoran
woman, who smiled back at him, while pouring the drink.
Greg hurried to sit on the bar stool next to Mason. "It DOES matter,
Bob- it was the final exam. I think it matters." Greg looked up at Mason.
"Now What did you get...?" Greg was always more interested in grades than
life. He was in danger of failing the Piloting Part of the course. He had
the padd containing his final grade in his hand, although he had not looked
at the file yet. He knew Mason had.
Mason slid the course evaluation padd across the bar to Greg. "Here-
see for yourself." Mason received his hot chocolate, and began quietly
flirting with the small Bajoran behind the bar. Greg did not hear them, for
his eyes were scanning Mason's evaluation with abandon. He read down the

It is the opinion of this Professor that Robert Mason is an excellent pilot.
He has excelled in virtually all areas of this course, and has proved himself
to be quite an asset to this School, as well as Starfleet. I am, no doubt,
pleased with his performance in the class. He has continuously performed
excellently in all simulations, and is quite ready to begin his career in
Starfleet. Cadet Robert D. Mason is hereby recommended for immediate duty.

Greg placed the padd on the bar and leaned against the counter. He slid
the Mason's padd back to him, and placed his own on the countertop. He
sighed. He had worked so hard to get where he is, and he knew he couldn't
fail. He had worked too hard for it. He wasn't stupid. He glanced over at
Mason, who was now kissing the Bajoran woman. Greg turned back to his padd,
and tapped two buttons. He looked down, and read. His face became sullen
and worn and pale and sickly- all in a matter of
seconds. He rose, and left the bar, manifesting contempt for Robert, and
smashing his padd against the ancient brick wall that lined the interior of
the cafe. He walked out onto the street, and turned toward the transporter
Terminal on Grand Street.
Mason glanced over at Greg's seat- it was empty. Mason broke his
embrace, picked up his padd, and left the bar, leaving his hot chocolate on
the counter, un-finished. He exited the Cafe, and saw Greg turning toward
Grand Street. Mason followed: past the restaurants and the bars, past the
antique shops which sold old Starfleet wrist communicators and other
Starfleet memorabilia, past the designer clothing stores, and past the
transport vehicle dealers-- on to the Transporter Terminal on Grand
Street.
He made his way through crowds of people, to the Starfleet Terminal. He
looked around, and noticed Greg steppin onto one of the pads. Mason called
to him, "Greg! What's wrong?" But he knew what was wrong. Greg was angry
about Mason's grades.... Again.
Greg stepped off the pad and dragged Mason, pretty much by force, to a
small lounge area, enclosed on 3 sides, and secluded from the bustling
people. "You know what's wrong, Bob! You knew I wanted that run! I wanted
it since I came to the Academy! You're such a freak!" Greg turned, and
cringed at Mason, and then began to walk back to the pad. Mason grabbed his
arm harshly.
"You know I have no control over which post I get! How could you be
this selfish?! And besides, it's just a recommendation, Greg." Mason
released his arm, a mistake. Suddenly he saw a fist coming towards his face-
adorned with a gold Starfleet Academy Graduation Ring. He saw a blur, and
saw flashes of people moving about all around him, and then he felt the fist
slamming against his temple, and all was silent... and black.
Cadet Robert Mason woke up 6 hours later, in a Medical Facility in San
Francisco. He tried to think about what happened, but couldn't. He opened
his eyes, and saw the face of a Lt.- in a blue uniform. She began to explain
the situation, and Mason lay silent, and listened.
"You had a severe concussion, Cadet... Cadet Jameson told me what
happened... He hit you pretty hard. His ring had caused some damge to your
temple, and some pretty deep tissue damage along your cheek." She pointed to
Mason's face, and he ran his fingers over the area, feeling the smooth ridges
of scar tissue. He cringed. The doctor walked to a nearby display
interface, opened a drawer, and pulled out 2 medical instruments. She
scanned Mason's head with the Medical tricorder and scanner
peripheral. "Not bad at all. I've restored your brain's full capacity, but
I didn't want to risk doing cosmetic surgery while you were still
unconscious... I can do it now." She lifted a hypospray, and placed it on
Mason's neck. He pushed her hand away gently.
"No, leave it." He blinked, and she put away the instruments. "Where is
Cadet Jameson now, doctor?" He looked up at her.
"He's at the Academy... Awaiting a conduct hearing." She frowned, and
ran another scan of his brain. She reached over the bed, and touched a
keypad. Mason's brain popped up on a schematic on the oversized wall
display. She began to explain the whole thing. Mason wasn't listening,
though, and when he sat up, he felt a rush of blood to his head. The Lt
rushed over. "Hey- what do you think youre doing?---->
[Return to Archives | Return to Listing ]
She was half mocking him, but Mason didn't smile. He lay down once more.
"I'm going to see Jameson, Lieutenant." Mason tried to sit up again,
but had to lie back down.
"No, you're not, Cadet. You need at least another 20 hours, Cadet."
She accented his rank in such a way that it bothered Mason. He knew it was
an order, so he sighed, and closed his eyes to rest. He heard the "whoosh"
of the facility's doors, and looked in the direction. A Commander was coming
toward him. Mason sighed again. He supposed he would have to tell the whole
story- maybe be a witness in the conduct hearing.
The commander walked to Mason's bed and handed him a padd. Mason tried
to nod, "Hello, sir," he murmered, but the words sounded hoarse, and
abrasive. He took the padd, and touched the display. It read:
Cadet Mason: you are hereby requested and required to take command of the USS
Tomahawk, a Danube class runabout. You will man the Helm and Operations
station, and 2 other crewman will handle the other stations. You will be
stationed on Spacedock, where you will command the Kessel flights. Report to
Spacedock in 32 hours.
</\>
Damn, Mason thought. He wouldn't have time to see Jameson. He would
have to pack his things, and write logs, and that didn't leave enough time
leftover. "Yes, sir, Thank you, sir." Mason tried to smile, but his head
still felt slow and groggy. He handed the padd back, and the commander
turned and exited the facility. Deciding he was too tired to do anything
else, Mason drifted off into a deep, medicine induced sleep....
----------
----------
Mason Sat up shrply in his quarters, thinking of Jameson. The two had not
sine spoken, and Mason wondered where Jameson was. He got out of bed, felt
the soft, plush rug under his feet, and walked into the bathroom.
After a shower and shave, Mason exited and changed into his uniform. He
walked to the replicator. "Hot Chocolate," he said as he attached his comm
badge. He still had about 10 minutes before his next shift, so he took his
drink over to the couch, and began to read a report of the thruster responce
times.

Lt.Cdr. Personnally, I like the sound of Lt. Cmdr. Clewan Eric, but that
will have to wait for a time. In this mission, we continued our search for
the Badon and her renegade crew. I held an Engineering meeting to discuss
options, and this is where Gringo had an idea of flooding space with em
radiation, but the ships cloak would not be affected by this. Badon
suggested that we use a ship to lure the Badon out of cloak and
attack her when she wasn't expecting it. I brought up the notion of using a
Romulan transport and making it look like it was carrying a vast load of
weapons. The captain liked the idea and authorized us to continue. Since
Mitchell's (Warp) area of service is as the chief shuttle operator, I had him
ready the ship while we got engineering ready for any battle.
The Badon decloaked and we pounced on her like a predatorious cat. She was
badly damaged, which caused the Captain to send Warp and myself over to the
ship to repair the damage to the ship.

At that point in time we joined up with the Agamemnon, and the commanding
officer of that ship, Cdr. Issac Shearn, announced his resignation from the

is, in my opinion, going to be one of the best commanders ever to step foot

STARDATE 9609.27
Commander Eileen Shodan
First Officer of the USS Potemkin
BEGIN DUTY LOG
We started by trying to obey Captain Putty's orders to do testing. Captain
Putty was not there due to an excused absence. We got a distress call, and
we were the only ship nearby. So, we had to interrupt our exercises to go to
the rescue.
A Kalarian woman asked us for help. Her planet was going crazy, whatever
that meant. All of us were brave, so we all volunteered to go down there and
help. I had Orien lead a medical away team with Mason, Kalla, and Vash.
Clewan led an Engineering away team with Frank. Clewan wanted Warp to stay
on the Potemkin and continue monitoring things. Since I was the Chief
Diplomat, I decided to go along, too.
We beamed down into a room filled with many trauma victims. I told Orien and
Clewan to lead their teams. I figured they didn’t need me hovering over them
saying things like, “Give this patient two cc’s of cordrazine.” or “The power
fluctuation is originating from here.” I went to look for the government
officials to talk to them. So I left my crew alone to do their work. I went
into another room.
Suddenly, a brilliant flash blinded everybody. Then things got really wacky.
Everyone was wearing their bathing suits (our Starfleet uniforms somehow
disappeared!). The women were in bikinis, and the men were in Speedo-briefs.
Instead of injured patients to treat, there were women who looked like Oriens
(green skin, and they exude pheromones that men find irresistible). Mason
and Clewan can attest to the power of these women’s pheromones.
Another flash of light, and we were separated. It also seemed that every
time someone wished for something (except to get back on the Potemkin), it
happened. Clewan thought of Bajoran Ale, and, voila! Mason thought of hot
chocolate, Orien thought of Scotch. Orien ended up getting drunk. Good
thing that he really didn’t have any patients to treat!
Orien and O’Dell got to test their climbing skills. Then Orien got to
practice playing the fiddle. Orien got *extremely jealous* when a man
approached O’Dell and kissed her hand in a knightly fashion. Warp got to go
Jell-O-wrestling with some women. They won. Clewan had a run-in with a
helmet, but that’s too kinky to print here.
It turns out that O Dell and Kalla are queens (a painting of them in an Irish
pub said so). And everyone got to keep their new bathing suits. Also,
everyone lived happily ever after. The End.

I can only think of one word to describe the mission that Shodan led with the

All I have to say is that wacky helmet that the wacky lady put on me was
strange enough, but all I can say is that I hope this next mission is much
better than this wacko fest we just went through.
Oh, by the way, I was promoted to Lieutenant Commander.
