Another Step in Their Journey
Joint Log by LCdrSarvy and FsLtKXyl
Sarvok sits in front of the DMDD in his quarters, overlooking the data
from the last mission. He looks over at the PADD next to him, picks it up,
types in a few commands, then sets it back down. Looking back to the display
device, he sighs, seeing that there is still a pretty good amount of work to
be done. He closes his eyes slightly, rests his head on the palm of his
hand, and asks, "Computer, what time is it?"
The computer replies back, "1800 hours."
Sarvok smiles slightly. ~~Kate should be off duty about now,~~ he
thinks to himself. ~~I think I'll go pay her a visit.~~ He then looks over
at something on the table. Picking it up, he slips in into a pocket, then
stands up. He walks to the doors and exits his quarters.
Sarvok walks down the corridor towards the turbolift. As he approaches
the turbolift, he looks behind him for a few seconds until the turbolift
arrived. He steps into it, and called out, "Deck 14." He waits till the
turbolift makes its two deck drop to deck 14, then exits when the doors open.
He walks down the corridor, passing by sickbay on the way. As soon as he
passes sickbay, he stands at the door to Kate's quarters. He pushes the chim
on her door, and waits for her to answer.
Kate looks up from the PADD she has in her hands to the door. She
smiles as she feels Sarvok's thoughts behind it. She places the PADD on the
table in front of her and turns to face the door. "Enter," she says happily.
The door opens, and Sarvok walks in. Kate smiles to him. "Hello, luv."
Sarvok smiles back. "Jolan Tru, e'lev."
They both walk up to each other. Sarvok places his arms around her
waist and Kate reaches up and places her arms around his neck. She wispers,
"I've missed you so much, Sarvy."
Sarvok whispers back, "And I've missed you too, Kate."
They both look deeply into each others eyes. Kate asks, "How was your
day beloved?"
"It was pretty good, and yours, e'lev?"
Kate smiles. "Mmmmm, everything went very smoothly!"
Sarvok smiles back. "What did you do?"
"I did some research into diet and vitamins!" She looks down for a
second, then back up. "Plus my usual rounds."
[Return to Archives | Return to Listing ]
"Oh..." Sarvok nods. "Fine anything useful?"
Kate smiles. "Mmmmmmmm, yes luv, I did."
Sarvok smiles back. "Then it was time well spent."
"I do believe it was." She looks over to the waterbed, then back to
Sarvok. "Shall we get more comfortable?"
He nods. "Sounds like a good idea to me."
Kate walks over to the waterbed and sits down. Sarvok follows her over
and takes a seat next to her. She looks up at him. "I would just love to
lie close to you for awhile."
Sarvok smiles. "I think that could be arranged, beloved."
Kate moves out to the middle of the bed, lying flat. She returns his
smile. "Thank you, my luv."
Sarvok moves next to her. "No need to thank me, dearest." Kate sighs
and cuddles close to him. Sarvok gently runs his fingers through her hair,
then hebends down and kisses her. She kisses him back, reaching up with a
hand, and undoing the band in his hair. His hair droops down onto his
shoulders. Kate then fingercombs through his hair. Sarvok smiles. "You
know I jol when you do that."
Kate looks into his eyes. "I love to play with your hair."
Sarvok looks back into her eyes. "Ie, I know you do."
She places a gentle kiss on his lips. Sarvok smiles, and places one
back on her lips. Kate presses tighter against him. "Ah, Sarvy I do love
you!"
Sarvok puts an arm around her and holds her close to him. "And
I'jol-au, Kate!"
Kate starts to nibble his neck. Sarvok moves down and begins to place
small kisses along her neck and shoulders. She sighs. "Feels so good..."
She resumes the nibbling.
Sarvok smiles, and then whispers, "I'm glad you enjoy it, e'lev."
Kate smiles back gently, then whispers, "I love everything you do,
beloved."
He then whispers, "As I jol everything you do, luv."
[Return to Archives | Return to Listing ]
Kate sneaks her left hand under his shirt and begins to softly caress
his tummy. Sarvok smiles and resumes kissing along her neck and shoulders.
She reaches up and licks and nibbles his neck, moving her hand upward to
caress his chest. He moves his hands up her sides and up to her shoulders.
Kate takes a deep breath, then begins to remove his shirt. Sarvok hears her
deep breath, then looks down at her. She smiles up at him, working his shirt
over his shoulders and head. She pulls it off his
arms and tosses it to the floor. She then puts her head on his bare
shoulder. "Much better," she says quietly and happily.
Sarvok smiles, bends head down and kisses her on the top of the head.
Kate sighs happily, and starts to lick and nibble his shoulders. He moves
down and begins to kiss the outer edge of her ear. She continues to lick and
nibble his shoulder, running fingers along his chest and tummy, pressing
herself ever closer to him. He rubs a hand up and down her back slowly and
she shivers. Sarvok looks down at her and smiles. Kate stops nibbling,
looks up at him, and smiles back. Sarvok moves his other
hand to back of her head and gently runs his fingers through her hair. They
both gaze deeply into each others eyes. Sarvok whispers, "I'jol-au so,
e'lev."
Kate whispers back, "Beloved, I adore you!" She reaches up and kisses
him deeply. Sarvok kisses her back just as deeply and passionately. Kates'
fingers play through his hair.
Sarvok then begins to think of his main reason for coming to see her
tonight. He slowly reaches down into his pocket, continuing to look into
Kate's eyes. She gently nibbles his chin and jaw, all the time gazing deeply
into his eyes. He pulls out the small box and looks down at it. She is
completely lost in his blue eyes. He opens the box slowly, and looks back up
to Kate. Kate stops her nibbling, but is still lost in his eyes. Sarvok
whispers, "Kate.....I love you with all my heart and....I
want to be with you the rest of my life.." He smiles. "Kate....will you
marry me?"
Kate smiles slowly and softly. She gently runs her fingers through his
hair. She then whispers, "Sarvy, I love you so very much... I cannot imagine
spending the rest of my life with anyone else..." Sarvok continues to look
deeply into her eyes, awaiting her answer, every second feeling like an
eternity. "Yes, beloved, I will!" Sarvok smile becomes very large. He
presents the ring to her. Her eyes widen as she looks at it. She then
whispers, "Will you put it on?"
Sarvok smiles, then whispers, "Ie, that was my intention, e'lev." He
takes the ring out of the box slowly. She looks back into his eyes. He
gently takes her hand and slides the ring onto her finger. He looks deeply
into her eyes and smiles. She smiles back.
Sarvok then leans forward and kisses her passionaletly. Kate kisses him
back passionately, pressing still closer against him. He gently runs his
fingers through her hair, holding her tightly. She gently nibbles his ear,
whispering, "Oh my luv.."
"What is it, e'lev?"
She smiles. "Nothing beloved....just that I love you so."
Sarvok returns her smile. "And I'jol-au with all my heart, Kate." Kate
nibbles from his ear down his neck. Sarvok then whispers, "I am so happy, my
love."
Kate whispers back, "As I am, my sweet!"
They both look deeply into each others eyes and kiss each other deeply
and passionately.

Personal log SD 9612.14
I still can hardly believe that this incredible mission even occurred. I'm
not sure where to start...I covered the mission pretty well in my duty log.
After the incident with the R'ae was over, I awoke slumped against a
sensor panel to see the crew standing at attention. I stumbled to my place
with the other ensigns. I was still too groggy to even notice what was going
on until the Captain called my name. "You are hereby promoted to the rank
of Lt. Junior Grade."
I couldn't believe it! After only a few weeks aboard and having just
returned from a LOA, I was being promoted! I uttered a rather composed
"Thank you, sir." (composed considering my condition, anyway). and
proceeded to drift back off into a haze.
I somehow blundered to my quarters after somehow staying awake through a
round of congratulations. I almost collapsed into my bed when I noticed a
message from Tracy. "Congrats, Torzel. I didn't want to add to your
misery while the crew was mobbing you. I remember how you were after your
last, um, experience. But I'd love to help you celebrate. How about dinner
in my quarters in a few hours? Well, ciao!"
[Return to Archives | Return to Listing ]
Joint Log SD 9612.14
Refreshed and feeling quite energetic, Torzel made his way to Tracy's
quarters. He was glad to have someone to celebrate his promotion with, and
there was no one on the ship he preferred to Tracy. Torzel made sure his
uniform was perfectly adjusted and then rang the bell. He heard Tracy call,
"come." As Torzel entered, he looked around and saw a large tank containing
a very unusual species of fish which he had never seen, even in all his
travels.
Tracy, also in uniform, smiled, then stood up. "Lt, I must apologize. I
acted incredibly stupid when I answerd those questions. You couldn't have
known that my past is a...... touchy subject."
Torzel smiled and accepted her apology. He was glad he hadn't offended
her.
Tracy could sense that Torzel was hoping this would be more than a formal
and perfunctory visit to commemorate his promotion. Tracy asked, "Would you
like something to drink?"
"Thank you, Rihan wine would be nice."
Tracy walks over to the replicator. "Bill, one ...Rihan wine." An odd
choice of beverage for a Trill, she thought.
Tozel looks puzzled. "Bill? Who's that? You're not having anything?"
Sensing he still is attracted to her, and sensing a hint of jealousy,
Tracy almost decides not to explain. She decides it would be too mean, so she
starts to explain. "Not who, what. Bill is my computer personality. I got
bored with the dull Starfleet one. No, I'm not having anything, at present.
Bill, where's the drink?"
*Bill*> ===What drink? And who is it for?===
"Bill, stop this now! The drink is for the new Lt. And I'm sure he'd
like it. Now!" Tracy watches as the drink appears. "Thank you, finally."
Tracy walks over and hands the drink to Torzel. "I'm sorry that took so long.
Bill, shall we say, acts up. A Lot."
"Thank you...I don't mind the wait. I take it there were some things you
wanted to talk about?"
Tracy nods. "Over dinner, though." She replicates something she grew
fond of on the Columbia, an eggplant dish that Killian introduced her to. She
sets the plates on a table. As Torzel sits down, Tracy walks over to the
replicator. "Long Island Iced Tea. I'd like it quickly, Bill." Smiles as the
drink appears very quickly. Tracy then walks over and sits down.
"So tell me more about this ceremony. I want to know what I'm getting
into."
"Well, its very ancient. Hundreds of years ago it was discovered that a
certain crystal which grows near the symbiont spawning pools was capable of
containing their consciousness. It was later determined that most humanoid
species could serve as temporary hosts for the symbiont, although only Trill
could host them permanently. It did not take long for the priests to
discover that the crystal could be used to temporarily insert the personality
of host bodies into subjects for the ceremony. The mind
of the host takes control of the body of the participant for one full night.
The purpose is for the participating Trill to have the opportunity to
experience separation and distinction between his personalities."
"So what happens to me while my body is....on loan?"
"Oh. You're still quite conscious. You experience everything your body
is experiencing. You can reassert control of your body at any time."
"Well, I'm sure that seems just fine for a race that's use to sharing
bodies, but you have no idea how creepy that sounds to most of us. Not that
I'm not honored to be involved...and terribly curious."
Tracy thought for a moment--then decided she'd like to know more about
who she'd be sharing her body with. "So tell me more about Daelna." Tracy
immediately sensed that Torzel was slightly uncomfortable.
"Well, she was a Federation science officer studying temporal mechanics in
the wormhole..."
"No, I meant, tell me about *her.* What she was like, unless it makes
you uncomfortable.
"No, of course not. She was my previous host after all."
[Return to Archives | Return to Listing ]
Tracy was once again finding Trill to be baffling. Why would she be sensing
nervousness then? She had assumed it was painful to talk about someone he
was so close to. Tracy remembered now that the Lt. was as much Brex as
Torzel.
"About Daelna. She was brilliant. She was incredibly creative and given
to have flashes of insight. She was intense about her work and generally not
a very outward or social person. She was very romantic."
Tracy noticed a strange manner about Torzel as he was speaking, as if he
was describing someone he truly knew intimately, and admired, and who
although very far away, he expected to see again. Or even, was seeing her
again, even as he spoke.
"You said you were very close to her, um, that Torzel was." Tracy now
felt a burst of tension from Torzel. It wasn't like she was upsetting him,
more like she was scanning him like a lie detector.
"Well, yes. She and Torzel were....involved. I was trying not to say
that directly. I was worried you would back out of the ceremony if you knew
I had been in love with the personality you will be taking. You see, during
the ceremony I can't access the memories of any of my previous hosts. Torzel
and Daelna will be together as individuals for the last time. I was
concerned that you would not want to be involved with something that could
become....intense. But you are really the only person
aboard ship who...reminds me.....of Daelna."
It was now Tracy's turn to be uncomfortable. She resented being in this
position but couldn't help but be attracted to the drama of the situation.
She felt strange admitting it to herself, but being ....put on a
pedestal....in a sense, by the young Lt. was somewhat...enjoyable. The
young Lt?? Or was he a being hundreds of years old?
"No," she said. "I'd certainly still like to participate. But I've been
wondering about your people, about what it's like to be joined and have so
many lifetimes.
"It would be a deep discussion. But I love talking about my past, unlike
some people." He smiled mischievously. As he began to speak his
youthfulness and seeming uncertainty fell away. He truly seemed ancient.
"When a Trill is joined, the personality of the new host blends completely
with the memories and experiences of the previous hosts. The consciousness
of the host and the symbiont blend completely. That is why the tests for
joining are so rigorous. There are many great myths about the
first Trill to be joined...."
Tracy listened to Torzel's stories of his race and his lives for the next
two hours, as they enjoyed second and third dishes of eggplant.
As they finished eating Torzel stopped speaking. He seemed to have
slipped into meditation, just absorbing his surroundings, sipping his wine,
and watching the weird fish. Tracy looked into his eyes and was enrapt by
the peace he radiated. She was warmed by the pure affection she felt from
him. She could could feel it slowly returning to the state of attraction and
desire that she now realized was more Torzel than Brex. The moment was
interrupted by Tracy's chronometer, signalling her next duty
shift.
Tracy stood up, a bit disconcerted fomr having let down her guard. "I've
got to go. My next shift is on. But thanks for answering all of my
questions."
"Thank you for a wonderful dinner. Perhaps I can make you dinner
sometime after the ceremony."
Tracy just smiled. "Well, ciao! *Lieutenant.*"
They walked out together. Tracy returned to duty and Torzel went to
speak with the priest about preparation for the ceremony.

Dr. Robert Mason entered his quarters, holding a padd in his hand.
“Computer, Lights.” He dictated to the computer as he unzipped the chest
fastener on his blue uniform and walked past the foyer into the small
kitchen. The lights blared on, hurting his eyes. It was now the Gamma
shift, and 2300 hours, and the lights all over the ship had been dimmed to
reflect the change in the time of day. He had gotten used to the dim lights
in sickbay, and throughout the ship.
“Computer dim lights by forty percent.” He walked to the replicator as the
computer obediently dimmed the lights. The familiar sight of streaking stars
could be seen clearly through the slanting windows of his quarters. He
turned and looked out at the stars. Their silent beauty fascinated him,
intrigued him, even after he had seen so much during the course of his life.
So many changes. So many losses.
But the stars always looked the same at warp.
And they always would look the same.
He turned away from the stars, and faced the replicator. “Computer, Samarian
Sunset,” he stated clearly. He was too tired to deal with one of those,
‘Please restate request’ replies from the computer when it did not clearly
hear his command. The fiery red and yellow drink materialized in a
yellow-silver shimmer on the replicator pad. The glass bore the emblem of
Starfleet in hazy etched glass. He reached for the tall glass, sighing as he
did so, and taking the drink into his bedroom. He passed numerous plants,
and his pure black grand piano, reminding him to thank Lieutenant Gill for
the use of his hardware replicator. The piano was a huge, concert grand
Steinway, and sounded absolutely beautiful, like the soft tones of a choir
emanating from its strings every time he played it.
He stopped short, and placed his drink on a Starfleet coaster on the
music-holder ledge. Walking in a small circle around the piano, unfastening
the leather straps which held the lid down. When the lid was loose, he
lifted it, and placed the holding rod into a small niche to hold the lid up,
revealing the hammers and strings. It was almost too complicated for the
Hardware replicator to materialize, but Lieutenant Gill had cleverly used a
holographic holodeck image of the same piano as a guide... Something about
the computer recognizing the matrix... He shrugged, and went back to the
matching black bench, sipping his Samarian Sunset when he had seated himself.
He slowly placed his drink back on the coaster, and hovered his fingers above
the ivory and ebony keys as he felt the pending melody flow through his mind,
even before he had played a note. He knew the melody well. He had grown up
with it, and made love to it, and as his fingers played the very first chord
(C sharp minor)
of “Moonlight Sonata,” by Beethoven, he thought of K’Lara. He remembered her
long, flowing blond hair, the scent of which he took in each night as they
slept, and her soft, brown eyes that comforted him when he was hurting.
And he played on, feeling the notes flow through him...
And he remembered her soft, pale skin against his as they loved eachother,
and he remembered her delicate hands in his as they slept through the night,
and he remembered the soft, soothing voice that reassured him and instilled
confidence in him.
And he played on, the chords ringing out through his soul...
And she was with him now, her long, flowing blonde hair permeating the room,
her deep brown eyes comforting him, her soft skin against his, and her voice
ringing in his ears with the music he played on the Steinway concert grand,
and as each felt tipped hammer struck a new string in the bowels of the
piano, a fresh tear rolled down his cheek and landed on the keys, splashing
onto his fingers.

Computer, open my personal log.

I am puzzled about the lifeform that appeared on the Odyssey. It is unlike
anything I have ever seen before. It seemed to be harmless and certainly did
nothing to hurt Knuchi when she picked it up. It apparently was also
sentient since it could communicate the concept of "home" to Knuchi. I
intend to continue my studies of this lifeform to determine its origins. It
is always very exciting to a scientist to discover new life!
On a more personal note, although I was scheduled for my surgery today, it
had to be delayed because of the mission. I must say I was a little
disappointed. I am really looking forward to the time when I will no longer
have to depend on a generator. I hope I will be able to have my operation
soon.

What a *perfect* chance. But, my main concerns are, do I lose him once he's

Investigation Part 2
Lieutenant Algar Acting Chief Of Security Personal Log:
::Algar is tearing down the hallway getting strange looks for the crew
members::
I have to speak to them! ::Thinks to himself looking down at his bundle in
his arms::
One of them must be able to give me a lead in this blasted case! ::He thinks
bitterly
as he slips into a turbolift before it closes:: Well, aren't we in a hurry
today huh Algar?
::Algar looks up and see his friend Lieutenant Commander Sarvok:: Well, yes
I'm
going to see Damara and Gill. I'm hoping that they can of some help in my
continuing
investigation of the aliens. ::Sarvok grins and says:: Well you'll be lucky
if you can talk
to Damara. She's been very busy. She's preparing to go away to some sort of
science function. I haven't been able to spend less than two minutes with
her.
::Sarvok's grin turns to a frown:: I see. ::Algar says obviously
uncomfortable with his
friend's current emotional state:: Well all I can do is try. Maybe when
there is more
time we can go use the Holodeck. We'll do "Iss Hogai." ::With the mention
of the
name a small smile come back to Sarvok's face:: Oh, no. Not another
patented Algar
mystery program. ::Sarvok displays mock fear as he says this:: Maybe, but
thing
we are going to do is a fighter simulation reeealll soon. ::Algar grimaces::
Uh yes
your fighter sim. Sure I can do that only on the condition that you agree my
mystery
is next. ::Sarvok, laughs:: Ok you win. What's the worse that could happen?
::Algar
laughs:: I might blown up in the fighter sim and get blown up in my own
program.
::Both laugh until the Sarvok leaves the Turbolift on his deck:: I'll see you
later good
luck with the investigation buddy. ::Algar smiles:: Thanks Sarvok. I'll see
you later!
::The turbolift is waiting patiently for Algar's command:: Engineering deck.
::The
turbolift starts to move and in a few seconds Algar is in Main Engineering
searching
for any sign of Damara and Gill. ::His package is still in his hands when he
enters
main engineering:: Whoa. ::Algar stands transfixed in awe of the core and
the steady
blue light pulsing:: Yeah, that's an inspiring sight isn't it? ::Gill says
from behind
him:: I feel that way everyday I come into engineering. So what brings you
down to
the trenches Algar? ::Algar turns to face Lt Gill:: Well, as you might know
I'm
investigating the capture of the Odyssey and our Marooning that occurred some
time
ago. ::A quizzical look crosses Gill's features:: You're still trying to
figure that one out
huh? Most of the crew have placed it behind them. ::Shrugs:: I'm willing
to help
anyway I can. Never let it be said that this android never contributed to a
persons
neurosis. ::Algar looks at Gill wondering what the meaning of such a
statement::
Relax, Algar it's a joke. I do have a sense of humor. ::Algar visibly
relaxes:: I'm sorry
I should have explained to that unlike Data, I was programmed with emotions
since
my creation. ::Algar nods:: Thank you Gill, I was thinking that you thought
my pursuit
of the truth was at best illogical. ::Gill smiles:: Naw, why would I think
that? I was
concerned on how easily they took over the ship and deactivate me with my
knowing
it. So what is it that you need my humble services? ::Algar raises his
bundle to eye
level and removes the cloth and shows Gill the Alien paraphernalia:: Wow.
::Gill says
as his eyes dilate slightly.:: I need some tests done on this equipment, I
thought both
you and Damara might be able to tell me anything about them. ::Gill nods
absently,
his gaze is steadily scanning the helmet, and articles of clothing::
Intriguing. The
metal defies most of my peripheral scans. I would like to study these items
at length.
::Algar marvels at how Gill just using his optical sensors can scan the
items. Algar
also notices how quickly Gill can change from amiable friend to all business.
[Return to Archives | Return to Listing ]
Just as Algar is about to say something Lieutenant Commander Damara walks in
to
engineering:: Hello guys, Gill can I talk to you? ::Gill steps back and
reveals the alien
paraphernalia:: What is that? ::Steps closer and stares at the alien
equipment:: Well,
Algar here wants some tests done on this equipment he got from those aliens
that
took over the ship. ::Gill looks at Algar and then back to Damara:: Hmm, by
the looks
of it those pieces would play havoc with normal scans. ::She takes a hold of
the
helmet and begins to turn it over look inside of it:: It looks like there are
nozzles
inside. Hmm. ::She looks thoughtfully at the helmet:: I'll see what I can
do for you
Algar. I'm interested in testing this myself. Mind if I take the helmet
with me? I can
use something to take mind off the long trip ahead. ::Algar shrugs:: Sure I
don't see
why not. Gill is that ok with you? ::Gill smiles:: Sure, there enough here
for me to
fiddle with until Damara returns from her meeting. ::Algar nods:: Well it's
settled then
please send your reports to my office when you are done. I'm very anxious to
see if
this will give any solid leads into the Aliens identity and purpose. ::He
shakes Gill's
hand and bows slightly to Damara who is still studying the helmet:: Sure,
Algar glad
to help. ::Damara says and waves goodbye as Algar enters the turbolift::
I hope something comes of this. ::Algar says aloud:: I'm sorry, but I
cannot
fulfill your request. ::The computer says, Algar groans:: Deck 10 please. ::
The
turbolift starts and Algar leans on the wall thinking on the information Dr.
Kyll
provided::

Algar Duty Log
::Algar gets up from the floor looking around bewildered:: What
happened?
One minute we are involved with some gun runners and next we're in the
transporter
room. What is going on here? ::Klindt smiles at Algar's outburst:: Relax,
Algar. We
managed to beam out the away team. Ensign Fetterman managed to shut down the
core long enough for everybody to beam back onto the Odyssey. ::Algar looks
around
and sees K'NuChi, Sarvok, Tom, Dr. Mason and Fetterman getting up on shaky
legs::
You did a great job everybody, everyone report to sickbay so KXyll can runs
some
tests and see if everybody is ok. And once again great job! ::Klindt's smile
grows
wider as he heads for the door:: Uh, sir what happened to the ship?
::Fetterman
says:: The ship self-destructed when we tried to tow her. Looks like the
gun runners
didn't want to get caught. Death before dishonor. ::Sarvok says supporting
Tom:: A
sentiment I can agree with even though they were criminals. ::K'NuChi says::
I expect
a full report from each of you concerning the mission. After that is when
everyone
here is cleared by the doctor to return to duty. ::Klindt walks out the door
and rounds
the corner smiling, and whistling a happy tune:: Is just me or did the
Captain just
walked out of here with an unusual spring in his step? ::Dr. Mason asks,
bewildered::
I noticed it too. ::Fetterman says, stepping down from the platform wincing
slightly::
The Captain is in a very good mood I wonder what happened on Earth? ::Sarvok
says, as he and Dr. Mason help Tom through the door and to Sickbay::
Whatever it is
I hope it carries over to the next mission it mean a promotion. ::K'NuChi
says smiling
at Algar as she too leaves the transporter room:: See you later Algar.
::Fetterman is
about to walk out when Algar stops him:: Fetterman, wait. ::Fetterman turns
around
and looks at Algar:: Yes sir? ::Algar places his hands behind his back::
You've done
excellently in the past few missions, I wouldn't be surprised if the Captain
put you in
for a promotion and a medal for your service. ::Fetterman smiles:: Thank You
sir. I
was beginning to think that I wasn't going to get promoted. ::Algar nods::
Don't worry,
the way the Captain is feeling I think a promotion is the very near future.
You better
get to sickbay. ::Fetterman turns away smiling:: Oh, Fetterman don't forget
I want
your report on my desk tomorrow. ::Fetterman groans as he heads off for the
sickbay::
Well, time to go. ::Algar says smiling::

::Algar walks into his quarters after spending some time in

here you
nearly beat out Sarvy for most banged up crew member. ::Algar smiles as he
sits
down in front of his computer:: Begin recording log.
We were assigned to return to the sol system, to investigate mysterious
shipping practices and for the Captain and Commander to speak at a meeting on
Earth itself. Sarvok, the team leader sent beamed with us to a cargo ship
not very far
from the Moon. We broke into pair and began to methodically search the
interior for
anything out of the ordinary. K'NuChi, my partner at the time, suggested I
take a form
of a dog to ferret out anything unusual. We came to a door and I managed to
open it.
Inside of it we found what we were looking for. Parts for a variety of
weapons all of it
illegal. Then we were attacked by the runners, I dove for cover with
K'NuChi. We
were trapped and the ship was moving. I tried to communicate with the
Odyssey but
it looked like they raised shields and were making a break for it. We were
pinned
down but I spotted Fetterman moving stealthily on top of some crates.
K'NuChi and I
gave him cover by distracting the runners as he managed to turn of the
generators.

harrowing mission, I for one was glad. We all got off lucky.

Algar Personal Log
::Algar still sitting on his chair looks out the open viewport at the
Earth as the
Odyssey orbits:: Today we had our first mission as a security force with
both K'Nuchi
and Fetterman. The Captain was away with the Commander on Earth at a meeting
while the Odyssey was paroling for rumored weapon smugglers. The Odyssey
found
them and Sarvok as the team leader beam used into the ship. The team
consisted of
Sarvok, Lt (jg) Tom, Dr. Mason, Lt (jg) K'NuChi, Ensign Fetterman and myself.
We
broke off into pairs and began to search the ship. I assumed that the ship's
crew was
elsewhere as we checked the ship from top to bottom. K'NuChi suggested me to
change forms to speed up the search. I found that a dog would work and began
"sniffing." I found a door that lead to the parts. We were then attacked by
the ship's
crew. They thought they could stop us from relaying what we found to
Starfleet. I
dove for cover and K'NuChi already shielded began to fire. We were pinned
down but
the same could be said of the smugglers. Sarvok, Tom, and Dr. Mason was
firing on
their position as the smugglers were firing on us. Then we discovered that
they were
trying to make run for it. The rest was a blur as Fetterman moving like a
spider
managed to come from on top of them and took out the ship's power. I must've
sustained a shot in the head because I cannot remember the actual events very
clearly. Sarvok got us back to our original beam in point just as the
shields were
coming back online, and beamed us home. I was disoriented but finding the
team
alive and well was enough for me. I was glad that my security team held
together in
such a crisis and we all managed to get home. I have already put in for a
promotion
for Ensign Fetterman and a medal for both him and Lt (jg) K'NuChi for
meritorious
service. ::Algar finishes his log and gets up and walks to the window. He
looks at the
blue ball of the Earth and smiles at his few fond memories of his days at the
academy. Then a voice comes from behind him as he spins around to see who it
is.
All Algar sees is a bright flash and then nothing::

::Algar hears a voice behind him:: So, you the Changeling Security officer
huh?
::Algar turns to face the smug face of Q standing there in his quarters::
What are you
doing here? ::Algar taps his combadge:: Algar, to.. ::Q waves a dismissive
hand and
cuts off Algar's transmission:: There's no need for that, "Algar" is it? We
are quite
alone. It just you and me and we have lots to discuss. ::He takes a seat
and crosses
his legs and smiles his normal smug manner:: You see, I've come for your help
in
something. ::Algar sneers:: My help? What could an omnipotent being such
as
yourself need for me? ::Algar voice drips sarcasm and malice, but Q doesn't
even
notice. He looks at his nails and a horrified expression comes across his
face:: Oh,
no! Look at these nails, that simply won't do. ::He snaps his fingers and a
nail file
appears and he begins to file his nails:: What do you want Q? I don't have
time for
this foolishness. All the times you've appeared you have caused nothing but
trouble
and I won't be a party to anything you got planned. ::Algar says with more
bravado
than he feels:: First of all Algar, I might be considered a pest by
Jean-Luc, or by
Sisko, or even by that beautiful yet dim Captain Janeway ::sighs:: You know
where
Captain Janeway is?!? ::Algar says with surprise and awe:: Of course I do.
I've had
the pleasure of her company a few times ::A sly grin crosses his face:: But
that's not
what is important. Me, rebel that I am is doing the Continuum a favor and
checking
up on one of our own. ::He pauses to see if Algar is listening, and finding
the
Changeling's attention satisfactorily, continues:: You see, Algar your
Lieutenant Steph
is former member of the Q Continuum and I am here to see if deserves a chance
to
rejoin us in all of the Continuum's glory. ::Algar sneers again:: And I fit
in where? ::Q
grins turns wider:: Well, Algar I admit this is unorthodox but it seems that
Steph has
bonded with you as...::Q's expression changes into a quizzical look:: as
what's the
word? A pet? No, a friend! ::Q goes back to smiling:: It seems that I can
use you to
see if Steph is truly ready to rejoin us and take his place among the
omnipotent! ::Q
claps his hands and Algar's weapons on the floor at his feet:: You won't be
needing
this. ::Looks at Algar enraged expression:: Changeling, you really think you
have a
chance to kill me? Oh, don't deny it. It's written on your face. You are
welcome to
try. ::Algar leaps at Q forming his hands and arms into large wicked looking
spikes::
Oh, how drool! ::Q waves his hands and Algar falls to the floor:: What did
you do to
me? ::Algar asks as he tries to change his form with no success:: I simply
punished
you for the duration of this experiment. You'll regain you abilities when it
is over. ::Q
face comes closer to Algar's:: You really thought you could take me didn't
you?
::Algar looks defiantly in his eyes:: I had nothing to lose. ::Q laughs::
You did have
something to lose Algar you life. You are very brave and very stupid. Just
like that
Klingon I always have words with. Worf is just like you but Jean-Luc always
restrains
him before I can do something fun with him. ::Algar struggling to contain his
rage::
Lucky him. Unlucky you. ::Q says with malice in his voice. He raises his
hand and
merely snaps his fingers and both he and Algar disappear into a bright flash
of light::
WERE THE HELL AM I?!? ::Algar says standing in a jungle:: Uh, in a jungle
Algee.
::Steph says shrugging his shoulders. Algar starts to move towards Steph
with only
one thing on his mind:: Hey, Algar why are you looking at me that way?!?
::Steph
backs up from the enraged Changeling:: You! You got me involved in all
this!! ::Steph
begins to run away from Algar:: Oh Bloody Hell ::Steph says as Algar begin to
give
chase through the underbrush:: Hey, Algar stop! I can explain!!!! ::Steph
shouts::

"A Friend's
Stranger"
Joint Log by LtjgK'NuChi and
LCdTambrot
Written up by
LCdrSarvy
K'NuChi sits at her table in Ten Forward, overlooking a few PADDs and
drinking her coffee. She looks up for a second, her blue eyes scanning the
room and its occupants, then returns to her work. As she taps in a few
commands into one of the PADDs, she hears footsteps approach her, then
suddenly stop. She tilts her head upwards and sees a Rihannsu male standing
over her, his emerald green eyes scanning her. She notes the pips on his
collar. Noting he is a Lieutenant Commander, she asks him in a
rather blunt manner, "Is there something I can help you with, Commander?"
The man looks down at her. "Na. I just noticed you were alone, so, I
decided to come over and introduce myself." He says this with a slight grin
on his face.
K'NuChi then asks the mane, "Well then, are you just going to stand
there and waste my time, or are you going to introduce yourself?"
The man continues to keep the grin plastered on his face as he extends
his hand and says, "The name is Tambrot ir-Riahael tr'Neral. And I am having
the pleasure of introducing myself to who?"
K'NuChi looks at the man's hand, then back up to him, not trusting him
at all. "K'NuChi."
The man's grin turns into a smile. He slowly retreats his hand back to
his side, then says, "It is a pleasure to meet you, K'NuChi. Would you mind
if I had a seat?"
K'NuChi then asks him, "Why are you over here talking to me?"
"Because there is really no one else to talk to in here." He motions to
the almost empty lounge.
K'NuChi almost begins to glare at the man, trying to find out more about
him, but somehow is not able to. "Yes....you may sit." She motions to the
empty chair at the table.
The man nods. "Hann'yyo." He smiles as he speaks his native language,
then takes the seat she offered him. "So....K'NuChi....what ship do you
serve on?"
"The USS Odyssey," she responds to his question, rather blandly. "And
you serve aboard which ship?"
The man smiles big. "The USS Avenger, the finest ship in the enitre
fleet!" K'NuChi notices he is rather proud of his ship. "The Odyssey you
say....perhaps you know my friend, Sarvok Cha'Tavek?"
K'NuChi continues to study the man, not letting her eyes drift off of
him, mostly because she does not trust him. "Yes...I know Sarvok. He is my
friend too." Not wanting to reveal too much to the almost complete stranger,
she stops talking.
"K'NuChi....now where does that name sound familiar?" The man stops for
a second and begins to think, then nods. "Ah, ie....I remember now. Sarvok
has talked about you before. Says you are a very good friend. Says you have
honored him with your friendship." The man begins to grin again. "He also
tells me you are a very good fighter."
K'NuChi continues to study him. "He told you all this?"
The man nods. "Ie...that he did." He leans forward, his grin becoming
much larger now. "Hey...how would you like to join me for a little fight on
the Holodeck? That is.... unless you are too afraid to face me in battle."
The man, knowing K'NuChi is Klingon, hopes this will set her off.
K'NuChi begins to glare at him. "I am not afraid of someone as weak as
you."
The man stands up and grins down at her. "Good... then met me in
Holodeck 14 in half an hour." Before K'NuChi can respond, the man walks to
the doors and leaves Ten Forward.
K'NuChi thinks to herself that if she does not show up, he will think of
her as a coward. But I am not a coward, she thinks. I will show him. She
gives a slight grin at this thought. Gathering up the PADDs, she makes her
way to the doors and exits.

30 Minutes Later
K'NuChi walks up to the doors of Holodeck 14. The doors open to reveal
a stone cavern that is light by several torches on each of the walls. She
steps in and takes a deep breath, smelling the musty air about. She glances
about and notices several shadows that fall about the room from the torches.
"Ah..... so glad you made it, K'NuChi."
K'NuChi glances around for the familiar voice and her eyes fall upon
Tambrot, standing in the middle of the cavern. His emerald green eyes
glimmer in the light of the torches. And, he has the same grin on his face
as when K'NuChi had seen him 30 minutes earlier in Ten Forward. The doors
behind K'NuChi close and the arch disappears. She walks down to Tambrot,
keeping her eyes upon the man, still not showing trust for him, despite him
being Sarvok's friend.
"Are you ready?" Tambrot asks almost cockily.
K'NuChi nods, taking her stance in front of him. Tambrot takes his
stance, almost in a mocking form of hers. "This could get real interesting,"
K'NuChi says, looking at Tambrot.
Tambrot grins, looking back at her. "Sarvok told me you fight ver
well..."
K'NuChi grins back. "He has a big mouth."
The man laughs back lowly. "I agree totally."
<<Writer's note: I'm gonna get him for saying that ;-)>>
K'NuChi begins to move in circles around him. Tambrot moves as she
does, in his mocking form. She starts to drop, going into her long cat
stance. He watches her, preparing to leap forward and over her. "Come
on...v'rrul," he says, trying to get her to strike first.
"Who is the fool?" K'NuChi asks, thinking he is the one.
Tambrot grins. "You are..."
K'NuChi smiles, watching his eyes. "Never underestimate."
Tambrot's emerald green eyes focus on ger, piercing deeply into her
eyes. "I never underestimate a battle..."
K'NuChi gives a loud growl. "This is child's play! And you are the
child!"
He laughs back lowly. "You think so...?" Then, hoping to set her off,
he asks, "Then I shall prove you wrong...or are you to much of a coward to
fight me?"
K'NuChi moves back into a horse stance, smiling. "Your words are cheep
and do not bother me."
Tambrot grins. "They seem to..." K'NuChi's eyes are cold as steel and
are locked on his. His green eyes become dark and loose their brightness,
looking back at her. She slowly moves, circling him, waiting. "You seem to
be hesitant, miss..." Once again, the grin is on his face.
"Why should I make the first move..?" Before he can answer, K'NuChi
rolls and hits him in the back, throwing him to the floor, then getting back
into a partial stance. Tambrot flips back up, kicking his feet on the way,
narrowly missing K'NuChi's face. He then lands to his feet. "Good move."
Tambrot grins in his usual manner. "Hann'yyo," he says lowly.
[Return to Archives | Return to Listing ]
K'NuChi once again growls loudly. Tambrot's grin turns into a sideways
one. She waits, watching him, moving as he moves. All of a sudden, he jumps
at her, kicking her legs out from under her. She stumbles at first but then
rolls out to a stance, catching his leg in the process. He kicks with his
free leg into her chest. She catches this leg to, twists it to the side,
then hits his knee with her elbow, then throws him to the ground. K'NuChi
looks at him, then laughs. "You are more fun than
Sarvok."
Tambrot grins and kicks her legs out from under her. She hits the
ground. She starts to get up while he does. As he gets up, he says,
"Because Sarvok is a weakling who is to caught up in love and passion."
<<Writer's note: I'm going to have to get him for that one too!! ;-)>>
K'NuChi regains her posture. "For him it is good. For us it means we
get to have fun."
"It does not help his fighting ability one bit," he replies to her
statement. She begins to move as he does, waiting. He once again grins. "I
have not had this good of a fight in ages."
"You are an interesting advisory."
"As I would tend to agree with you."
K'NuChi moves back a little. "But a cocky one."
Tambrot laughs lowly. K'NuChi can feel her blood boil, getting tired of
his laughs and grins. He watches her. "Getting angry are we... good." He
grins.
"You do not understand Klingons!"
"And you do not understand Rihannsu!" K'NuChi becomes slightly
disorianted. Tambrot takes advantage of her disoriantation and knocks her to
the ground. She then focuses, grabs Tambrot and hits him square in the jaw
open handed. She then grabs his hair and flips him a good distance across
the cavern. She stands ready, but, he is already charging at her. He slams
her body into the stone wall of the cavern. She immediately feels a large
amount of pain in her side, but shrugs it off. She knees
him hard and side slams him into the same wall. He does a flip off the
wall, lands behind her, and elbows her in the back. Then does another flip
backwards to put some distance between them. She buckles and then falls to
the floor. But, she slowly recovers and stands up. Tambrot grins, looking
at her. "Do you give up, kll'inghann?"
"No, Romulan dog." She laughs.
"I would not be talking, fvai. You look very tired."
K'NuChi grins. "I have been called worse....and I do bite."
Another grin comes over Tambrot's face. "I like woman that bite."
"And men who fight are interesting pets!" K'NuChi moves to a better
point in the cavern.
Tambrot still has his grin plastered to his face. "Nice words, coming
from a y'kllhe."
"Speak where I can understand...or do you not have the courage?" She
grins.
"I have the courage... I just do not like talking in the language of
weaklings."
"I will not be angered by you words. You are a play toy!"
"Well... this play toy likes to fight, not talk." Tambrot grins.
K'NuChi locks her eyes with his. "Good..."
Tambrot keeps his eyes locked with hers. A small snarl comes over his
face. K'NuChi growls in response, shifting her position. The grin returns
to Tambrot. "There's the part I missed about fighting kll'inghann." He does
a flip, the kicks her legs out from under her. She rolls away from the fall.
Tambrot jumps back up to his feet. "You're quick... I like that in an
opponent."
[Return to Archives | Return to Listing ]
K'NuChi stands again. She growls as she says, "You talk to much."
Tambrot grins as she growls. K'NuChi then realizes her shirt is torn.
She smiles. "Don't try to confuse my with you smile...."
"You do not need my help to be confused." He grins as she says this,
not affected by her words. "You were confsued when you started," trying to
distract him even more with her words as she moves to the left.
"Ie... I was confused because I thought you would be a worthy opponent."
His emerald green eyes continue to focus on her.
"Too bad you are just a child."
"If I am a child, then why do you fight me?"
K'NuChi moves around him. "I am playing tag." She moves in and throws
him against the wall.
Tambrot hits the wall then falls to the ground. K'NuChi moves in and
puts a knee to his throat. He looks up at her and grins. She returns his
grin. "Seems you have beaten me...," Tambrot mutters.
"Do you want to breath?" K'NuChi asks as she pushes her knee deeper. "I
know you too well this is not over."
"A warrior needs nothing but strength...."
"Not always," she says as she locks his hair under her foot.
"Then what else does a warrior need...accoarding to you..?"
"The knowledge to know an honorable foe." She looks at him, not giving
an inch.
"I can see where that might come in useful...."
"I could crush your windpipe." Tambrot looks back at her, his emerald
green eyes narrowed slightly. "If I choose to."
"Then why don't you?" he asks almost cockily.
"Because you are not the enemy at this time...and Sarvok talks of you."
K'NuChi laughs. "I will not kill you... You are fun."
Tambrot grins. "I am fun....am I? And for that, you will not kill me?"
"This was play or you would have been dead."
"A battle is never play...."
With those words, K'NuChi pushes her knee hard into his throat, cutting
off air. Tambrot glares at her, knowing she will not go through with it.
"Do you want to die?"
[Return to Archives | Return to Listing ]
He replies in gasping words, "I cannot choose...my life is in your
hands."
"Surrender or die now!" She pushes harder and reaches down, grabbing
his hair.
In gasping words, he replies, "I have already surrendered to you..."
"Say it, 'I surrender on honor'!" She exposes his throat slightly.
Still gasping, "I surrender on the honor of my family."
With those words, she gets up, but does not take her eyes off of him.
He begins to cough slightly.
K'NuChi bows in respect to Tambrot, then stands back with her hands
behind her. He gets up to his feet and returns her bow. "You fight well,
for a kll'inghann."
"And you for a man." She begins to laugh.
He grins, and says cockily, "Hann'yyo."
"Do you want to get something to drink?"
Tambrot smiles. "I would be honored."
K'NuChi rubs her back. "I think I cracked a couple of ribs. It hurts
when I laugh."
"Then maybe we should go to sickbay."
K'NuChi replies to the statement about going to sickbay with, "No way in
h... and miss a drink with you...?"
"We can get the drink in sickbay. You may be in worse shape then you
think." Tambrot begins to think he sounds like Sarvok.
<<Author's Note: Ha ha ha...funny ;-)>>
"No!" K'NuChi almost yells. "I have been tagged worse than this. They
will heal... besides, each breath reminds me of the fun...ouch! Do not make
me laugh!"
"Don't make me order you to sickbay, Lieutenant." He grins as he says
this.
"You cannot order me anywhere. You do not have authority over me,"
K'NuChi replies.
"Actually... I do. Starfleet has given me the authority."
"I have not and I am not going." K'NuChi decides to be stuborn, not
wanting to show her pain.
"You're not going to like this...but..." Tambrot applies the Vulcan
neck pinch on her and she falls to he ground. He leans down and picks her
up. He exits the holodeck and goes to sickbay.
They both go to sickbay and get their wounds mended. Later, they go to
Club 6, and have that drink. While there, they talk to Lieutenant Algar.
After talking for about an hour, Tambrot escorts K'NuChi to her quarters to
make sure she gets there alright. Once she is safe inside, Tambrot goes back
to the station that both ships are docked at.

::Algar gets up from his chair and walks around his quarters:: Why is
it I feel so
out of place? ::Shira merely wags her tail:: It feels like I've been away
from the ship,
but I've been here all the time. It's like a portion of my memory was cut
away from
me. ::Algar thinking comes across a mirror:: I'm used to loss of memory
after all I
was found an amnesiac. But this time it was like an important piece of
information
was lost. ::Looks at himself in the mirror:: I don't see anything
different. Is this some
sort of Founder trick? No this something more. What the hell is it? ::Turns
back to
desk and starts to record his personal log::
The mission started simply, we were supposed to meet and greet the USS
Liara. She was designed to scan and detect cloaked ships. Starfleet felt
that with
that capability she would be too much of a target. Considering she wasn't
fully staffed
or had any means of defense, the Odyssey was dispatched to "babysit." As
soon as
we arrived we were attacked by a party interested in destroying the Liara.
Klindt sent
Sarvok out in his fighter and managed to defend the Liara. While on the ship
we
received an intruder alert. K'NuChi spotted an unusual reading in a cargo so
we went
to investigate. Once there we found an energy being. It seemed not be
moving as if
it was dead. Tamara who entered the cargo bay with us tried to each out to
the alien
with her powers but got nothing. Damara came down and tried to scan the
alien. All
the while K'NuChi seemed to be communing with the Alien. I was concerned
considering that the unidentified alien could be hurting her. But K'NuChi
seemed to
trust the Alien and carried it out of the Cargo Bay and into the Science lab.
There
Damara was able to get some more information about the alien. She found it
was
weak but getting stronger. K'NuChi reasoned that the alien was merely
resting and
need the ship as shelter. With that, K'NuChi managed to get the alien out
from the
ship. It left as strangely as it entered. ::Gets up and shuts off
recording. Enter his
bedroom and flops on his bed. Algar closes his eyes and "sleeps"::

LIEUTENANT ISAAC GILL • •
Chief Engineer- USS Odyssey, NCC-615336
::Begin Log::
Today we were sent on a mission to aid the Liara in the investigation of some
strange readings that could possibly be cloaked ships. Turned out that's
what they were... The Odyssey protected the Liara and only suffered moderate
damage itself. What sticks out in my mind the most is the incident involving
an intruder that boarded the Odyssey. It was some kind of energy being that
could disrupt force fields and who knows what else. Kanuchi was able to
touch the being and earn its trust. She wasn't
driven by her warrior instincts alone. I admire her for that. Kanuchi
carried the being into a science lab and comforted it. In my mind that makes
Kanuchi one of the most honorable people I know.

Subject: Personal log
:::computer start log::::
This has been a very exciting, tiring and strange week.
I have been security for a little over a week now and it is everything and
more than I could ever have expected. Algar is a good leader and with his
guidance, I hope to improve and become more of a team member. We have worked
together on several missions and he is always there when the chips are down.
The tiring part of this week is getting to know what security is all about. I
had some idea but during my off hours I have been working out more and
studying different cultures:::smiles as she thinks of LCdr. Tambrot....an
officer she met in ten forward:::::.I am also just getting back to full duty
after an "encounter" which I ended up cracking several ribs and causing a
small puncture in one of my lungs.....
The Strangeness of this week is the way I reacted to the creature in the
cargo bay.....I have ALWAYS been a warrior...but this time I was acting on
just female instincts....I seem to know that it meant us no harm and it was
scared. I did not think about what I was doing but just reached out for a
being that needed help.
I seem to be going thru a change...one which I have been talking about to a
friend...who has been a great deal of help...There are two people in me...one
the warrior and the other the woman ...It seems the two are finally going to
have to meet and come to a balanced cohabitation.

Personal Log
::log opens::
Peri dashes down the hall to the nursery school and bursts into the room.
Looking around, she spots Kieran laboriously copying his numbers on an old
earth style chalk board and swoops down on him. "Hello, sweetie!!" She looks
at what he has done and grins. "You're getting better and better at that each
day!" She points to the slate. "Just look how straight those ones are! Like a
row of crewmen standing at attention!"
Kieran beams up at her, "Teacher says I make the best ones in the whole
class, Perwi!"
"I'm sure you do, darling." She ruffles his hair fondly and looks around
for Miss Okuda, the nursery teacher. Peri spots her smiling at them from
across the room. "Hi, Janice." She waves. "Is it okay if I take Kieran out of
class a bit early today? We're having a special celebration!"
Janice Okuda smiles, eyeing the ring that sparkles on the ring finger of
Peri's left hand. "I see. Sure you can take him. Are congratulations in
order?"
Peri blushes slightly, looking down at her engagement ring. "Yes, Janice."
She looks up, her eyes outshining the gems in her ring. "He proposed!"
Kieran looks from his guardian to his teacher, confused. He reaches up and
tugs at Peri's sleeve. "What's going on, Perwi? Why awre we celebwating?"
"I'll explain it all to you when we get home, love. Let's get you ready to
go now." She helps him put the chalk and slate away and gather up his things.
On the way to the door, she stops to speak with Miss Okuda. "Is there any
sort of assignment Kieran needs to do as homework since he is leaving early?"
Janice grins, shaking her head. "No, Peri, we were just practicing numbers
for the rest of the period and Kieran already does his well, as I'm sure you
noticed."
"Thanks, Janice! You're the best!"
Miss Okuda chuckles, "I'll bet you used to say that very same thing when
you were a child and the teacher let you escape without homework."
Peri laughs, "Well, yes, now that I think of it, I believe I did!"
"Congratulations, Peri, I hope Christian realizes what a lucky man he
is!" Peri blushes again as Janice gives her a quick hug and then bends down
to hug Kieran. "And you have fun at the celebration tonight, Kieran. See you
tomorrow."
"Okay, Miz Janice. Bye!" Kieran plants a kiss on her cheek and then
happily dances off down the corridor hand in hand with Peri.

Tamara entered her quarters and sighed softly, wrapping her arms around
herself. She looked around the cabin as if seeing it for the first time. She
saw the sterility and austerity of it as others would. She had felt that way
herself for such a long time, it seemed. Emotionally sterile. Even months
ago, when she was still married to Sean, she knew she wasn't happy.
She had thought that she was asking too much of a relationship, to have
that dizzy, roller-coaster feeling all the time. But, oh, how she missed it
when it was gone. And now, out of the blue, she felt that terrifying, but
wonderful stirring in her heart again.
She ordered a cup of hot tea, cupping her fingers around the warmth and
lightly inhaled the aroma. Walking to her favorite chair, she paused in front
of it, remembering the meeting with Rob in Ten Forward. They had met by
accident. She had wandered in, feeling lonely in her quarters. He was sitting
by himself at a table in a dark corner, looking out at the passing stars. She
had almost decided to leave him to his thoughts, when he glanced up and
smiled at her. Her heart had beat a quick drum in her
chest at that smile. It startled her a bit, this unexpected fluttering that
happened every time he smiled at her. However, she had spent a long time, a
lifetime, keeping her innermost thoughts from showing. All he could have seen
was a pleasant smile from her as she joined him at the table.
She glanced at the empty seat. "Mind if I join you, Doctor?"
Robert smiled, a bit wryly. " I think after our last session, you could at
least call me Rob."
Tamara smiled back, feeling a bit foolish. "Thank you, Rob." She sighed
softly and leaned back in the chair. "I wasn't certain that you would wish to
chat with me outside of my professional duties. After all, it's not as if you
would associate me with pleasant memories. And you seemed to be...lost in
thought just now."
Robert looked into his drink, then took a quick gulp. He set it back on the
table and looked into her eyes. "I was just thinking over the day, and over
the past few weeks since I boarded the Odyssey. She's a fine ship, Counselor,
with a fine crew. I'm very happy to be here. And", he paused for a moment.
"I'm happy you are here."
Tamara wasn't sure what he meant. Was he happy she was here now? Or that she
was on the ship? She tried not to read too much into his words. He couldn't
be aware of this strange tugging in her heart that occurred whenever she came
across him. She decided to just take his words at face value.
"Thank you, Rob. And please, call me Tamara. I am very glad that you are here
also. You are a fine doctor with an impressive record." She smiled her basic,
pleasant smile at him.
Was she just imagining it, or did he seem disappointed in her response? It
was difficult to tell because after only a moment, he smiled, albeit briefly,
at her in return.
"I was hoping we could schedule another session soon", he said, a bit curtly.
"I would really like to get to the bottom of this entire..business."
She was a bit bewildered at the change in subject, but responded in kind.
"Certainly, Rob. How about tomorrow? Say, 1500 hours?"
He nodded and rose. "I will see you then. I'd better get to bed, I'm on duty
at 0800."
She nodded back, feeling a sharp disappointment. "Fine. I'll see you then."
He turned quickly and left the lounge.

Begin Personal Log, Ensign Justin Moody, 96.12.31
I can hardly contain my excitement! After toiling for four years at the
academy and more beforehand, I am assigned to a Galaxy class ship. Most of my
academy friends were jealous because most of them got assigned to Excelsior
or Intrepid class ships, while I got the Odyssey. My first posting will be
Assitant Operations Officer, which reflects the fact that I majored in
Tactical, minored in Ops at the Academy. It is hard getting use to life
aboard a starship, especially when the starship has 42 decks! I
had a hard enough time designing a holodeck program which I call Seawolf,
which follows my interest in American Twentieth Century Nuclear Submarines. I
also plan on joining the ships orchestra (after all I am a violinist). Well,
duty calls. It's off to work I go!

::Damara sits in the Odyssey Sickbay talking to LtjgKnuchi, Ensign Fawn, and
Dr. Kxyl about her surgery. Dr. Kxyl looks at Damara and smiles::
Are you nervous Damara?
A little....
Don't be. You'll sleep for awhile, wake up and have one new powerpack in
place.
It's going to be strange not having to plug into a generator any more.
Strange, but you'll get used to it very quickly.
Will I be asleep for the whole procedure?
::Dr. Kxyl looks thoughtful:: Well, I do want to save you from any
difficulties.
::Damara nods:: That's probably best.
::KNuChi looks at Kate:: Are we going to record the procedure so Damara can
see exactly how it was? ::She turns and looks at Damara and smiles:: Sorry
for sounding so cold.
::Damara looks at Knuchi:: I didn't think you sounded cold.
::Kate turns to Knuchi:: hmmmmmmmm, never did that before. Someone tell me
how and I'm game? I think it should be recorded, by the way.
::Knuchi makes a suggestion:: Set up the holographic projector over your
work area and set it to record instead of play.
::Damara smiles:: Good idea, Knuchi.
::Commander Mason walks into the Sickbay:: Greetings...
::Damara looks at Mason:: Hello, Commander.
::Mason raises a brow at the greeting:: Hello, Damara. All ready?
::Gill hurries into the room:: Sorry I'm late
::Damara sees Gill come in and smiles:: Oh, good, you made it! ::She looks
at Mason:: I'm ready now.
::Gill looks around the room:: You draw quite a crowd, Damara. ::He smiles
at her::
::Damara returns the smile:: Yes, I do. I imagine this is a first for
Starfleet.
::Kate decides to get down to business:: OK, Damara. Lie on the table
please.
::EnsFawn, who is assisting, looks up at Kate while Damara lies down on the
biobed::
::Kate nods:: OK, get the IV ready, Fawn.
::Knuchi walks over to Tambrot who has just entered the room:: I am glad you
could make it.
::He smiles to K'NuChi:: Glad I could make it, too.
::Gill rolls the engineering tools over to the biobed and Damara looks at
him:: Gill, where are the solar cells going to go, my arm or leg?
I think they would operate best in your arm.
OK, that sounds good.
::Mason scrubs up and dons her "reds" while EnsFawn picks up an IV and gets
it ready. Kate inserts the IV into Damara's right arm and Damara winces::
::Kate looks at her kindly:: It's in, Damara, that's all you'll feel until
you wake up!
::Damara nods at Kate thankfully. EnsFawn looks down at Damara and waits for
her next command from Kate::
::Kate slowly turns on the machine:: That will pump in the sleep drug,
please count backward from 100.
::Damara lies back:: All right. 100, 99, 98..... ::She closes her eyes::
95.... 90.....
::Mason is standing by, waiting for the anesthesia to take effect::
::Knuchi looks at Tambrot who smiles back reassuringly at her::
::Kate looks at her nurse:: Fawn, get the instrument table closer to you.
::EnsFawn pulls the table closer::
::Damara mumbles::
::Algar stands a little further away::
::EnsFawn looks back down at Damara and gets ready::
::Knuchi looks at Damara:: She is almost under.
::Kate lift's Damara's lid and Damara starts breathing evenly. She checks
her pulse and then checks the monitors:: Fawn, get the powerpack from Gill.
::EnsFawn looks over at Gill:: Hand me the power pack.
What do you want now, the solar panels or fusion generator?
::Kate answers for her:: The fusion generator, Gill.
::He hands Fawn the generator::
::Knuchi walks over to Gill:: Gill, I asked Algar here because he was
involved with the procedure on the planet and you worked good together.
::He smiles at her:: Good idea, Knuchi.
::Algar looks at Gill:: I'll help in any manner I can.
::Mason makes a last-minute calibration, frowning slightly::
[Return to Archives | Return to Listing ]
::EnsFawn turns to Kate and her eyes widen a little. Kate picks up an
instrument:: Gill, where will we put the panels? Panels in the right leg,
generator under the rib cage? Sound good to you, Gill?
How about her left arm and leg? The rib cage is fine for the generator.
::Mason looks up:: Easier to expose the arm to light...
::Knuchi looks at Tambrot:: We had to supplement her power once before and
Gill and Algar did it.
::Tambrot looks at Knuchi with interest:: Oh....what did you do?
Algar became a power source, Gill was the transfer device, and without the
help of Sarvok, she would have died.
::Tambrot nods, smiles:: Sounds very interesting.
::Kate continues her conversation with Gill:: Can't do the generator in with
the mechanicals. OK, got you. How many panels do we have?
Four, two on the arm and two on the leg.
::Kate nods:: And the left side is mechanical. I will leave that to you and
Algar, Gill.
Aye, you have any suggestions before we begin, Algar?
::Algar looks at the panels:: Maybe if the connectors had some sort of
organic component?
Fawn looks up at Kate and Kate glances at her:: Fawn, keep a close eye on
the monitors. ::Fawn looks up at monitors sharply::
::Mason is monitoring the devices' functions with a tricorder as they are
placed::
::Tambrot smiles at Knuchi and she smiles back, moving closer to him::
::While they wait for a signal from the doctor, the engineers discuss the
procedure. Algar looks at Gill:: Um, I was just think of some sort of
converter for organic power. I was just suggesting that like most humaniods
we can create a connector that could convert organic forms into energy.
::Gill shook his head:: Her Borg implants do much of that, Algar. Were you
thinking of using her organic side as a power source for her mechanical side?
Yes, by consuming organic foods she could replicate power for herself. She
has the cells already. She’ll be doing that with the solar energy any ways.
If you had suggested that before we planned the surgery maybe, but that's too
complicated for now.
I understand.
::Mason looks at Algar:: Mmmm...yes, Al, but supposing there were a
situation where she was shut off from a solar source...the other might be a
good back up system... possibly a plan to consider for later on?
::Algar nods:: It's worth looking into.
::Gill looks at Mason:: That's why she is getting a fusion generator
installed, too.
::Knuchi looks at Gill and smiles:: Good move.
Thanks, it's what I run on and I never run out of power.
::Algar frowns:: Yes, but you’re not organic, like Damara. Are you?
No, but she only needs power for her mechanical side, and I'm mechanical.
::Knuchi interjects:: Won't the cells help control the energy levels?
::Gill nods:: Yes, Kanuchi.
::Mason frowns:: Do we have adequate shielding for the fusion generator, to
protect her bio half?
::Algar agrees:: That what's the most important. If her organics start to
decay... It wouldn't be pretty.
::Gill looks irritated:: So the mechanical side is worthless, is it? I have
accounted for that. I'm not going to melt Damara!
::Algar shrugs his shoulders:: Hey, I was only theorizing. If you thought
this through, then by all means do it. Damara trusts us to save her life.
I’m only doing what I can.
I'm sorry.
There's no need for apologies.
We have discussed this before and I'm sure of what I'm doing.
::Algar nods:: I wasn't in on those discussions. I was trying to be
helpful.
::Gill nods back:: I know you were trying to help, but you were trying to
change the whole thing at the last second. There is plenty of shielding.
::Mason chuckles:: Ok, Gill, that's all I wanted to know. My scans told me
the mechanical side could handle it. I was just concerned about the organic.
::Kate decides her patient is ready:: OK, let’s get this show on the road.
::EnsFawn gets ready::
::Algar stands away::
[Return to Archives | Return to Listing ]
::Kate picks up instrument and places it under Damara’s ribcage:: Fawn, how
are the monitors?
Stable for the moment.
::Knuchi moves even closer to Tambrot:: I am a little nervous. She is a
friend.
::Tambrot puts his arm around her, smiles down at her:: It will be okay.
::Knuchi feels better::
::Fawn watches Kate::
::Gill steps forward:: Ok, Algar, will you help me attach the panels?
::Algar steps forward:: Sure. Hmm.. I can’t see it very clearly.
::Kate starts to make a small incision:: Size, Algar? Watch the monitors,
Fawn.
::EnsFawn looks back up at monitors::
::Kate looks up:: Gill, generator size?
100 cubic centimeters.
::Kate nods and opens the incision a little wider:: Fawn, spreader please!
::Algar morphs hands into soddering iron:: I'm ready.
::EnsFawn hands Kate her spreader::
::Kate spreads the incision just wide enough::
::Mason is standing by::
::Gill notices Algar and smiles:: Nice, Algar, I could use you around
engineering.
Thank you. I could use you in Security.
::Gill grins:: Actually I think all departments could use anybody.
::Algar nods:: Very true.
::Knuchi looks at procedure:: Wow this is fascinating.
::Tambrot nods:: Ie...it is.
::Kate looks up:: OK, Fawn, I need clamps.
::Fawn reaches for clamps and hands them to her::
Thanks, Fawn ::She clamps incision open::
::Knuchi walks over to check recording device:: It is working fine. ::She
walks back to Tambrot::
::Tambrot smiles as she comes back and puts his arm back around her::
::Kate continues:: Fawn, generator next. Be ready, Algar.
::Algar nos:: Aye.
::EnsFawn grabs generator::
::Mason is closely monitoring mechanical functions::
::Kate looks over at her:: Thanks, Peri.
::Mason smiles:: No problem, Kate.
::Gill walks over:: Ok, the solar panels are ready.
::EnsFawn hands Kate the generator::
::Kate takes it:: Gill, start on the leg please. ::She gently places the
generator under Damara’s ribs. She fingers it slowly into place::
::EnsFawn’s eyes widen::
::Mason makes another small recalibration::
::Knuchi holds her breath for this part. She looks up at Tambrot:: Thanks.
I am glad you are here.
::Tambrot smiles:: I’m glad I’m here, too.
Knuchi whispers softly:: Come on, you can do this.
::Gill looks at Kate:: Now, Doctor, once you finish, I need to wire the
generator and panels together to steady the energy flow.
Right, Gill. Algar, sodder the wires to the generator! Fawn, get the
sealing instrument ready.
::Algar starts to sodder wires into place:: Right. ::He looks over to Gill::
Am I doing this right?
You are doing fine, Algar, you're very good at this. Anytime I need a
soldering iron, I know where to find a good one.
Thank you ::Sparks fly into face:: This is fun, I should do this more often.
::Knuchi looks concerned:: Algar, are you ok?
I’ll be fine. I don’t feel a thing.
::EnsFawn gets instrument ready::
::Kate turns to Fawn:: I also need that small silver device on the left
please!
::Fawn hands her an instrument and then the silver device::
::Kate presses the device from incision to left leg, leaving a small channel
behind:: Gill, I'll run the wires in that channel, and seal the wounds.
Alright.
::EnsFawn sighs::
::Knuchi squeezes Tambrot’s hand harder::
::Tambrot looks down at her, feeling more pressure on his hand. He smiles at
her and whispers:: It is going to be okay.
::Kate looks up again:: Algar, hurry up and finish so we can get the panels
working.
I'm on the last one. ::He finishes, stands back and morphs hand back to
normal::
::Kate takes the sealer and seals incision. She gently places wires into
channel, sealing flesh behind placing of wires::
::EnsFawn sighs again as Kate seals wound::
::Knuchi starts to breathe a little easier.
::Gill looks at Damara and then at Kate:: She looks good. Everything looks
like it's in the right place.
[Return to Archives | Return to Listing ]
::Kate comes to the mechanical area:: OK, Gill, all yours. ::She hands Gill
the wires::
::Gill rechecks his drawings::
::Mason peeps at schematics over Gill's shoulder::
::Knuchi holds her breath again and thinks:: ~~Come on, Gill. You have been
over these plans a 100 times.~~
::Kate takes a deep breath:: Nice and steady, folks. ::She checks Damara’s
pulse and slows the flow in the machine:: Fawn, we need a hypo of
antibiotic.
::EnsFawn grabs antibiotic and starts to hand it to Kate::
::Kate shakes her head:: Fawn, I'll let you do that. In her neck please.
::She adjusts flow on machine::
::EnsFawn injects hypo::
::Gill looks up:: Soldering iron again, Algar.
::Algar morphs hand back into sodder iron:: Ready.
::Knuchi cheers him on:: Gill, I know you can do this.
::Gill connects wires from generator to panels wiring the panels in
parallel:: OK, Algar, solder those connections.
::Algar solders connections:: Anything else?
Lt Gill: ::rechecks his work and frowns:: It looks right, but I have to be
sure, she could short out if I'm wrong.
::Algar replies:: I hope then we're both right? ::He morphs hand back to
normal and steps back:: Whoa, that took a little out of me.
::Gill nods:: Ok, Kate, she's yours again. Wake her up.
Okay.
::Knuchi lets out breath and looks down at Damara::
::Fawn breathes deeply and looks over at the monitors:: Everything’s normal.
::Kate reverses machine:: She'll be up in a minute.
::Mason lets out a quiet sigh, relieved that it has gone without a hitch so
far::
::EnsFawn sighs and looks down at Damara::
::Kate checks her eyes and monitors her pulse:: Here we go, folks.
::Gill watches Damara for signs of movement::
::Damara hears voices from a distance and concentrates on the sound::
::Algar crosses his fingers::
::Knuchi looks on:: Come on, Damara.
::Damara’s eyes flutter::
::EnsFawn smiles::
::Kate smiles:: She's coming around.
::Gill smiles:: Yes!
::Knuchi smiles::
::Algar cheers:: Hooray!
::Damara opens her eyes and sees blurry faces::
::Gill looks concerned:: Are you okay, Damara?
::Algar waves:: Hello, how are you feeling?
::Kate leans down and gently pulls out the IV:: Damara, how do you feel?
::She places cotton on the small hole::
::Damara focuses and sees her friends around her. She looks at them and
smiles:: I’m fine.
::Knuchi looks at Damara:: Welcome back.
::Fawn smiles widely::
::Gill looks at her closely:: Do you feel any different?
::Damara looks at Gill:: I feel the same. Did everything go okay?
::Algar looks at her:: It should have. Gill?
::Gill looks relieved:: Everything’s running as it should.
::Kate folds Damara’s arm, wrist against shoulder:: Damara, you are now on
your own power. ::She sighs:: Fawn, good job. Gill, Algar, great job,
guys. Peri, thanks again.
Thanks. ::Fawn backs away from the table to let people get in to see Damara.
She watches everyone::
::Mason smiles happily, shuts off tricorder, all running up to standards::
No problem, Kate. You, Algar and Gill had the hard part.
::Damara looks at all of them:: Incredible. I can hardly believe it. Thank
you, everyone.
::Knuchi walks over to Kate:: Thanks.
You’re welcome, Knuchi.
::Gill continues to talk to Damara:: You may be a little off balance with the
extra weight on your right side, but it will pass.
::Damara feels tired:: OK, Gill.
::Gill looks around:: Everyone did great!
::Kate looks down:: You need a good rest tonight, Damara. Work in the
morning on adjusting to the extra weight. Damara, I am honored that you let
me perform this operation
::Damara nods:: Thank you for doing it, Kate.
You’re welcome. Now I've given you an antibiotic. You should be okay, but I'd
like to see you in a week , Okay?
Okay, one week.
::Knuchi walks over to the projector and turns it off. She looks at Gill and
Algar:: You two made a good team again. ::She smiles::
[Return to Archives | Return to Listing ]
::Algar smiles:: Aw, shucks, tweren’t nothing.
::Knuchi looks at Tambrot...gives him a hug. Tambrot hugs her back, smiles::
::Gill walked over to Algar:: I appreciated your help, and your ideas were
great, Algar.
I am sorry. I didn't know my suggestions were going to be disruptive.
::Gill holds out a hand to shake Algar's. Algar takes it and gives it a firm
shake::
::Knuchi smiles at Algar and Gill::
::Damara looks at Algar and Gill:: Looks like you two have come to my rescue
again.
::Gill smiles happily:: It's our pleasure, Damara.
::Algar nods:: Well, how many people can say they have been a part of
history making surgery?
::Mason stands up:: Well, I'm delighted everything went so well. I'll see
you all later. Thanks for inviting me to participate. ::Everyone says their
good-bye’s and Mason leaves the room::
Knuchi looks at Kate: How are you doing? You did great and look tired.
I am just a little tired. Well, folks, since my job is done...I'm gonna
scrub up and relax. Later! Thanks, all. ::Kate leaves::
::Fawn also decides to leave:: Bye, everyone. Get your rest, Damara.
I will. Thank you, Fawn! ::Fawn walks out of room::
::Algar moves toward the door:: I've gotta go, everybody. Good night.
::Knuchi looks at him:: Thanks, Algar...glad you came.
No problem glad to help. ::He exits the room::
::Knuchi turns to Damara:: How are you doing?
A little tired, but otherwise I'm fine.
I am glad it worked out. You are free.
I don't think it's quite sank in yet, Knuchi. But because of you and Gill, I
am free now.
It will the first time you think you have to recharge and realize you do not
have to.
::Damara smiles:: Yes, you're probably right.
Damara, I did not do anything. Gill, Algar and Kate did it.
::Gill looks at her:: It was your idea, Kanuchi. Don't be modest.
::Knuchi smiles. I was just thinking out loud and you listened.
::Damara looks at him:: Gill, is there anything special I need to do to take
care of the generator or the solar cells?
Just keep dust off the cells and they'll be fine. ::He smiles::
::She smiles back:: I’ll do that.
::Knuchi looks at him:: Can she get them wet?
Sure, they are waterproof.
::Knuchi walks back over to Tambrot:: What are you doing now?
::Tambrot looks at her:: Nothing really...you?
::She looks at him and smiles:: Being with you? Do you want to go somewhere
and talk?
::Tambrot smiles:: Where would you like to go?
Pick somewhere. ::She looks at everyone:: I am going to have to leave.
Damara, I will check in on you later.
::Gill nods:: Bye, Kanuchi!
::Damara looks over at Kanuchi:: Ok, bye.
See you all later. ::She walks out the door and Tambrot follows her::
::Damara looks back at Gill:: I'm just glad it's all over. I was a little
nervous.
Kate is an excellent Doctor, no need to be nervous. Nervous about my part,
maybe. ::He winks at her::
I was nervous when you were late, Gill. I really wanted you to be here.
::Gill blushes:: Algar probably could do it, but thanks. Damara, do you feel
up to joining me for a cup of coffee?
I think so.... if I can lean on you a little on the way?
Of course ::offers arm::
::Damara gets up slowly and takes his arm:: I'm surprised how tired I am.
Maybe you should just get some rest like the doctor said.
Can we just stay here and have some coffee together?
Sure, I don't think Kate would mind us using the replicator in her office.
::He smiles::
Great. ::She smiles and sits back down::
::Gill helps Damara to sit on bed and then walks to the replicator:: What
would you like?
::Damara thinks about her choices:: Well, actually I've never had coffee.
I'd like to try it.
Okay, I like mine with plenty of cream and sugar, do you?
Sure, that sounds fine.
Two terran coffees, extra cream and extra sweet. ::He grabs the beverages
and hands one to Damara:: It's actually very good.
[Return to Archives | Return to Listing ]
::Gill watches her:: I don't need to eat or drink, but I enjoy it.
::Damara looks surprised:: You can actually taste things and enjoy them? Do
you have an emotion chip, Gill?
Yes, I do...It's always active. Do you sense things like other humanoids?
Yes, I do. ::She sips the coffee:: This is very good. ::She puts the cup
down and lies back:: I'm very tired, Gill.
You should rest. We can have coffee or dinner some other time.
::She nods her head:: Will you stay with me until I go to sleep?
Of course I will.
::Damara smiles:: Thanks.
I don't have duty until morning and I don't sleep, so I won't be busy
::Smiles::
::Damara nods slightly and closes her eyes. She falls asleep::
::Gill takes a seat and watches as Damara's eyes slowly shut::

Doctor Mason closed his eyes on the leather couch, listening to the
counselor's voice. It was 1500 hours, and it was time to plunge back into
his past... Into the memories. But this time- he wouldn't be alone. She
would be with him, and he was convinced he would beat it- and find the truth
about his past.
"Breathe deeply, Rob, nice and slowly... That's it..." Her voice was calm
and soothing- a contrast of his thoughts, and feelings. Her blonde hair
was soft and flowing, pushed to the side of her face, lying gracefully on
her left shoulder. She grasped the crystal, placing her hands over his,
feeling the warmth of his hands.
As Mason drifted into his subconscious, he began to see swirling shapes,
objects, and thoughts- all rotating in a haze of both blinding and subdued
colors. Deep cherry red floated and swirled in tandem with blinding yellow
spots... The crystal glowed, and emanated a soothing warmth that both Robert
and Tamara could feel penetrate their skin, and reach deep into their souls.
He took some comfort in her delicate hands over his, helping him, and guiding
him through the realm of thought- into his past to confront the demons.
"You're doing fine....I’m going to join you now...you'll feel me in your
mind." And he did, as she eased he way into his thoughts, penetrating the
layers of emotion and surface clutter, plunging into his subconscious with
the silent ease of a soft telepathic feather. Robert felt the warmth of the
crystal in his hands, and the warmth of a Betazoid presence in his mind as he
breathed silently and deeply, concentrating on both the counselor's words,
and a mental picture of the glowing crystal.
"All right..." He wasn't indifferent to the situation, though. He found it
soothing, calming, and relaxing to feel another presence in his mind, easing
the burden of the demons, lightening the pressure of the memories, if not
sharing the torment. He breathed deeper, calmly, and relaxed, letting the
air flow out of his lungs in one long and steady stream of air.
Tamara leaned back on the couch, gripping the sky blue crystal and Robert's
hands tighter as she closed her eyes and performed the final telepathic bond
to his thoughts, his mind. She exhaled, and probed deeper.
Her presence settled itself in his mind, and suddenly wasn't so foreign. It
was a welcomed presence, a deep and personal one. As he drifted deeper into
his mind, and reached the deepest level possible, he saw both his thoughts
and hers, turning and spinning together in a whirlpool of sentience. And her
thoughts meshed with his, and he suddenly felt not only a presence, but a
bond- a special bond through which they were completely open mentally with
one another, and a bond through which there were no secrets. It was a bond
he was happy to be sharing with her.
"Take me there, Rob...Show me...." Her soothing tone rang through his ears
as he breathed again, concentrating, trying to take her back to the harsh and
unforgiving landscape where the sand stung his face, where the wind stole the
sand under his feet faster than he could find his footing, and where the
blackness and evil of the sky reigned over all. As he tried to journey back,
his head began to hurt. But it was working. The whirlpool began to slowly
fade away, untwisting to reveal that dreadful landscape that had haunted
Robert for what seemed like an eternity...

Tamara and Robert appeared in a brilliant flash of light in the midst of the
cold landscape, their eyes wandering across the horizon. She knew that with
the heightened awareness of her thoughts, Robert would be exceptionally
susceptible to extraneous thoughts and emotions emanating from his
surroundings; she kept her emotions in check, keeping both a calm face, and
soothing and reassuring thoughts. She remained almost completely detached
from her environment, knowing it wasn't real.
The swirling winds greeted them, and the swiftly moving grains of sand flew
into Robert's face. The wind penetrated his clothing, and the sky rained
down loneliness. He felt alone, and an incredible sense of guilt arose in
his soul.
"Is this the place of your memories?" Her detachment from the situation
astounded him. How could she be so objective when all of this was so real
to him? He couldn't answer, and he accepted it as part of her strong
psychological will, and a result of many years experience.
He looked around, noticing not only the sand which was swept quickly out from
under his feet, but also the bodies at his feet- slain, and lifeless. Blood
hardened on their cold bodies as the freezing wind roared at them. Robert
looked down, not wanting to see what was there, not wanting to believe. But
any thoughts or hopes of the unreality of the situation were washed away as
he saw the blood on his hands, drying, and coagulating.
“Do you see it?” Robert held up his hands, showing them, and the blood, to
Tamara. She looked regrettably at his hands, and then at the bodies. A
subtle chill went through her body.
“I see it,” Tamara said calmly. She slowly bent down to examine one of the
bodies. She turned toward Robert as he looked down at her, and then at the
ground, and the dagger lying in the sand.
“This is what killed them, I think...” He trailed off as he reached down to
pick up the dagger. He lifted it off the red sand as Tamara rolled one of
the bodies onto its back, exposing three stab wounds in its chest. An
expression of calm curiosity was on its face, as if he did not know why he
had been killed.
As if she had just heard his words, uttered more than a minute prior, Tamara
reached toward him and took the dagger from his hands. As she did so, a
small bit of black resin remained on his index finger from the handle of the
dagger.
“Do you remember this, Rob? Is it yours?” Her words broke his stream of
thought, and cut through his mind like darts. She was calm and concerned,
wanting to help him in any way she could, being sure her words were clear,
and comprehensive. Was it his dagger?
Robert looked down at his index finger, smudged with the black, sticky resin
from the dagger’s handle. He looked at the dagger in her hands now. It was
his. It had to be.
“Evidently...” He held up his finger and pointed to the handle. She saw it.
He saw it. His thoughts whirled, jumping from subject to subject. And he
began to hear the song... The song rang through him again, coming from
everywhere, anywhere, all around him. The sonata that began with
(C sharp minor)
the melody he knew so well. Its chords flowed through him. And as he heard
the music in his mind, he knew she couldn’t hear it. Only he could. It was
his memory. It was his life, and he was the only one meant to hear the
sonata. The winds ripped the sand from under his feet. The grains flew into
his face, and the planet howled in pain. Yet the sonata was strong and
consistent, playing in his mind. The chords rang out like harbingers of his
inevitable victory over the demons. The chords gave him strength, they gave
him confidence, and they gave him hope. And like Tamara, they were with him
now to aid him.
“OK, the dagger is yours and you killed this man. We know that much. Why
did you kill him?” Her voice was calm, and purely interrogatory. She didn’t
want to pressure him.
