:::sitting in the BIG chair, smoking a cuban cigar given to her by the
Captain, wonders why hes giving cigars:::::::::
My report is as Follows:
Diagnosis for EnsPavlor:
Is still unconscious & in sick bay. I contacted Dr. Toby Russell & we
discussed Pavlor's case in detail. I am doing additional testing & Dr. Toby
is sending me medical data on some rare forms of bacteria, seldom seen in the
Delta quadrant. I will be putting her on the stasis unit until we can
identify & cure her condition.
Diagnosis for LtnKar'ral
She still hasn't been to see me since she's left sick bay. I am worried about
infection setting in. I told her when she left she would have to return for
treatment daily. I will make sure she comes in today or else I will have to
go up there with a security team & drag her to sickbay. Kari has become very
close to me, I value her friendship & respect her as an officer. She tends to
put her duty before her own personal safety & well being. I would be remiss
in my duties as a doctor & a friend if I let her
ignore her injuries.
I also want to enter into this log, a little about the drills I was involved
in last night. I was assigned Ops, much to my surprise. Most of my training
has been in med & although all cadets had to take a certain amount of
training in each department, I felt there was little need & concentrated most
of my efforts on medicine. So I managed to get through the Academy with
minimal knowledge in the other departments. I now see the mistake I made.
Those Starfleet Academy rules & recommendations are for a
reason & even though I can't understand those reasons at the time, I should
trust in the wisdom of Starfleet & follow recommendations to the best of my
ability. My poor performance in Ops is a lesson I shall not forget. I have
taken measures to start courses in Ops & Engineering. Afterwards I will study
each post until I am familiar with all operations on the Hermes.

Diagnosis of LtnKar'ral
Kari came to see me as promised. I dressed the burns with more Tralazine &
checked for infection, none present. I know that the burns are causing her
some discomfort but she refused my offer of Darvozone for her pain.
The Klingon characteristic,"Brak'lul," has helped in promoting regeneration
of the injured tissue. I am confident if Kari follows my orders, she will be
as good as new within the week.
Diagnosis of Glenborne:
Ltjg Glenborne came into sickbay this evening with injuries that were
sustained in a,"misunderstanding."
I immediately did a bio scan & his injuries are as follows:
Broken cheekbone
Broken nose
Fractured wrist
Bruised ribs
Loss of secondary tooth
loss of computer ocular microchip
Ensign Duster was called to sickbay from engineering to replace the ocular
microchip.
Glenborne was immediately put on a plasma infusion unit for loss of blood &
to replace fluids. We then had to perform minor surgery to his broken
cheekbone that was indented into the facial cavity. We used Anesthizine for
anesthesia.
I made an incision on the roof of his mouth & inserted an exoscalpel to push
the bone back into place. Then closed the incision with autosutures. I used
my medical tricorder for application of Metorapan, a drug that has been
successful in the treatment & regeneration of fractured & broken bones.
Glenborne was given Darvozone for pain & kept in sickbay overnight for
observation.
Diagnosis for EnsPavlor:
She is still in stasis & in stable condition. I have not heard from Dr.
Russell as of yet. I have accessed some medical files that were stored in the
data banks under Dr. Leonard H. Mc Coy. The files included some information
on several diseases that are seldom contracted in our time. I found two
bacterial diseases that have similar properties of the
bacteria found in Pavlor's blood.
One is Alterian Encephalitis, a retro virus that attacks the synaptic system
causing its victim to suffer memory loss & hallucinations. The virus can lay
dormant for years & activate without warning, leaving its victim comatose.
The other is Bendil Syndrome. a disease that is characterized by a loss of
emotional control & irrational anger. Pavlor has symptoms of both diseases &
the bacteria in the blood samples that I have taken from her, have similar
properties of both afflections. I will continue to evaluate the samples in
hoped that I can find a match.
I have discovered that the bacteria in Pavlor's blood resemble the
characteristics of Alterian Encephalitis more than it matches Bedil Syndrome.
So I have a suspicion that
it could be a mutation of this disease & has developed into a new strain.
Further testing is needed before I can come to a definate conclusion.
Added notes: Ensign Duster has been invaluble in assisting me in sickbay with
the repair of our computers & pulmonary support unit. I have noted this in
his record.

Duty Log
Stardate 9610.29
The USS Hermes is currently en route to the Draakona System to check out a
star that is about to explode. We should reach the system in a few days.
Two days ago, the captain had ordered drills for the alpha crew to perform.
These drills consisted of being tested as to how a department would answer an
order, which department would answer an order, and a simulation with the
alpha crew performing duties other than the ones that they were assigned to.
These drills, in my opinion, have brought about a new
awareness of how the ship can work together sucessfully or fail working
apart. In addition, more respect is given to the positions that the crew
does not personally hold.
The report from Engineering has just come in. All systems are functioning at
100%. I have requested that engineering run diagnostics on all shuttles to
ensure proper working order.
Sickbay has had some peculiar activities. It seems that Ltjg. Glenborne has
reported there with several injuries, all stemming from a "misunderstanding."
::chuckling:: I hope he has scheduled a session with Counselor Bethany
Duncan real soon. I have the feeling that Glenborne has a lot to learn about
human emotions and boundaries. The good news is that Random has been
performing much better than her last duty on the ship.
Also, in conjuction with the formentioned incident, Stephanie has been taken
to the Brig. I am requesting that whoever sent her to the brig will answer
to me or to the captain with an explanation for their actions.
No other incidents have been reported from any of the other departments.
Everything should go smoothly at the Draakona System.

::Standing in the captain's ready room:::
Captain Semino let us use this room for our little meeting Ens. Gard.
>What is this about Commander?
Well, it's about the treatment of our civilian, Stephanie Pike. I was
informed that she was put into the brig, without any medical attention.
>Well, considering how wild she behaved.....
Listen to me, you do not deny anyone in the brig medical attention. All
people, no matter what has happen, is entitled to be treated for any wounds
or illnesses.
>Begging the commander's pardon, but this child was acting like an animal.
she needed to be locked up.
On whose authority?
>Well....sir......
I repeat myself....on whose authoirity?
>Isn't this about Miss Pike being denied medical attention?
Yes....and about her being locked up in the brig. i find the whole situation
a little extreme.
> ::mumbles something aboout women sticking together::
If you really have a problem with me Ensign, then I suggest you take it up
witht he captain. Otherwise, I suggest that you answer my question: On
whose authority did you put Stephanie Pike into the Brig?
>Well....I don't remember.
Who do you usually take orders from?
>Lt. Kar'ral. But she didn't give the order.
I know she didn't. Otherwise, you wouldn't be here.
>What are you accusing me of?
Usually Ensign, no one is to be put into the brig without orders from the
Captain, myself, or Lt. Kar'ral. Now, I want to know who gave the order.
>I don't remember.
Don't or won't?
>Commander, if this accusation.....
Don't worry...I have had enough. Just remember, if I ever here of such
extreme behavior again, you will answer for it Ensign Gard. Dismissed.
::Ens Gard leaves:::
Sending my report to the Captain. I don't think I will get anywhere with
security. Maybe he will have better luck.

::Kar'ral walked into the brig and stopped short as she realized there was
someone in one of the holding cells. She looked over to see who it was and
was surprised to learn that it was Stephanie. She was sleeping, so Kar'ral
did not disturb her. She walked over to the crewman on guard duty::
How long has she been in there?
Just a couple of hours, sir.
::Kar'ral nodded and walked into her office. She sat down at her desk and
quickly read over the report of the incident. Then she noticed that her
message light was blinking. She turned to her console and read the Captain's
memorandum::

Re: Stephanie Pike and Lieutenant (JG) Simon Glenborne
Lieutenant:
I understand that Stephanie Pike was placed in the brig. I spoke with
Stephanie, and apparently, one of the security officers were making fun of
her during the arrest.
I would like a full investigation into the matter to identify any
discrimination, and also any provocation on Simon's part. I trust that you
will take appropriate action against the alleged actions of the security
officer, and submit a full report.

Per your request, I have begun an investigation into this matter. I intend
to begin my interrogations immediately. As soon as I've gathered enough
information, I will file a complete report.
I would also like to assure you that if I discover that any of my security
officers has acted improperly, I WILL ensure that it does not happen again.

Computer > Duty log open.
Our recent mission that was cooked up by Starfleet turned out to have an
unexpected twist. The Hermes was sent to the Draakona system to observe a
meteor that was going to impact an uninhabited planet, Beta317. When we
arrived, a science team was assembled to study the asteroid from a shuttle.
The team consisted of Rick "Big Cheese" Semino, Jar'Tan "Blue Cheese" Haven,
Sydney "Tuna Melt" and Simon "Chicken Leg" Glenborne.
Just as the meteor came within range of the shuttle, it changed its course
and headed straight for it! This was not a meteor at all but some kind of
life form, although it appeared to be the sole one. To protect the shuttle,
Kyla "Cream Cheese" Raven ordered our acting helmsman, Bethany "Hot Tamale"
Duncan, to move the Hermes between the meteor and the shuttle. The Hermes
was sandwiched in between, but this didn't faze the creature a bit, as it
then swallowed the Hermes whole.
The crew was shaken, not stirred, but no one was hurt. The Commander asked
for ideas on how to escape, but insisted on following the prime directive --
the creature was not to be sliced, diced or fricassied. Everyone agreed that
the creature was probably feeding off of the Hermes power.
"Doughboy" Donan suggested modifying the shields to make the power
distasteful to the creature. Stephanie "Deviled Ham" Pike and Aaron "I'll
eat my hat" Duster proposed venting plasma to give the creature a nasty taste
in its mouth. Duster also wanted to toss in a little antimatter into the mix
to give the recipe some kick.
It was finally decided to use modified phaser arrays to pepper it with an
anesthetic and muscle relaxer. Then a tractor beam could be used to force
open the creature's mouth. Commander Raven asked Dr. "Ice" Teena to work
with Engineering to blend the medication. Teena scrambled to follow her
orders and asked Jason "Crusty" Storm to help her. Once they were ready, the
phasers were fired and the creature was forcefed the medicine.
Meanwhile, the shuttle crew had maneuvered around to act as bait and distract
the creature. They dangled themselves like a carrot in front of it and it
started following them. As the creature floundered after them, this gave the
Hermes time to get away. Before the creature could catch up with the shuttle
and eat them for lunch, we transported the crew back to safety.

STEPHANIE'S INTERROGATION
::Beth walks down the hall to the turbolift and enters it::
{S TAP} Stephanie, please meet me in the security office.
{tap} On my way.
::Beth exits TL heading for Kar'ral's office::
::Kar'ral sits in her office and thinks about what she's going to say to
Stephanie::
::Stephanie walks down the hall and heads for Kar'ral's office::
::Beth enters Kari's office:: Hello, Kari.
::Kar'ral stands up:: Hello, Counselor.
::Stephanie enters the office and Kar'ral motions to a chair:: Have a seat,
both of you.
::Stephanie sits down and Kar'ral looks at her:: I would like to discuss
the... incident the other day.
::Stephanie nervously swivels in chair:: um..ok
First of all, I want to check the facts.
::Beth sits down and looks back and forth from Stephanie to Kari::
::Kar'ral continues speaking to Stephanie:: According to the incident
report, Glenborne came to your quarters. Is that correct?
Yeah, and he wouldn't leave.
You asked him to leave?
::Beth sits back in her chair trying to relax as she listens to Stephanie::
Yes, I did..and he persisted on staying in my quarters, so I showed him to
the door.
::Beth nods::
::Kar'ral makes a note on her PADD:: Why was he there?
He said he wanted to help me.
Help you? In what way?
::Beth sits listening to Kari's and Stephanie's thoughts::
Help me with my past..and how he knew about all of it. ::Stephanie starts to
get agitated:: He dug all the dirt up on me -- he had no right!
What past? You'll have to enlighten me, Stephanie.
It's none of your business.
::Kar'ral gets irritated:: Excuse me? Young lady, this is an official
investigation. You will answer all of my questions.
::Stephanie looks to Beth and she admonishes her gently::
Now, Stephanie, that is rude. She just asked you a question.
She doesn't need to know! I have a right to privacy.
You don't have a right to bite at her like that. You don't have to tell her
everything. ::Beth looks at Kari:: She has an assorted past that she wishes
to remain private.
::Kar'ral thinks to herself:: ~~I can understand that. I wouldn't want
anyone digging into my past either.~~
::Beth continues to explain:: Her past is a matter of record, but she does
have a right to her privacy.
::Stephanie interrupts:: Which Glenborne broke -- he demolished my privacy.
::Beth tries to protect Stephanie like a mother hen:: Does her past really
matter? Glenborne violated her right to privacy. It shouldn't matter what
information he was trying to attain.
::Kar'ral decides not to press the point:: Well, let's skip that question
for now. But we might come back to it later if I see fit.
::Beth can feel Stephanie tensing::
So you asked Glenborne to leave?
Yes, a few times. I even showed him to the door and helped him find his way
out.
And he refused?
Yes.
::Kar'ral looks at Stephanie's bruises:: And then what happened? Did he hit
you?
::Stephanie looks down at the floor:: Not intentionally.
And just what does that mean exactly?
I don't think he meant to hurt me.
::Beth looks annoyed:: Are we going to go through this again, Stephanie?
::Kar'ral looks at her PADD:: According to witnesses, you two were fighting.
Yeah, we were. But it didn't last long.
Who struck the first blow?
The first blow? I don't remember. We just started fighting.
::Kar'ral gets irritated again:: Surely you remember whether Glenborne hit
you first or not.
::Beth stands up:: Stephanie, that's a lie and you know it. I thought we had
gone through this already.
::Stephanie sighs:: I hit him first.
::Kar'ral looks surprised:: Did he threaten you in some way?
He wouldn't leave.
Did you fear for your life?
You mean fear like he was going to kill me?
Yes, were you defending yourself when you hit him?
::Beth mumbles:: You are lucky that he didn't kill you.
::Stephanie looks to Beth:: Um..no..it was a different kind of fear.
[Return to Archives | Return to Listing ]
::Kar'ral tries to understand:: Did he threaten to harm you in some way?
No.
::Kar'ral stands up:: So let me get this straight. ::She looks at the young
girl in front of her:: Glenborne came to your room and wanted to talk about
your past. So you attacked him? Without any kind of provocation?
::Beth intervenes:: Stephanie, if you don't just spill it, I swear I am
going to tell her.
Look, I don't want people discussing my past, ok? I got ticked off at him
and hit him.
How old are you, Stephanie?
16
Hmm... under age. OK. ::Makes note on PADD. Wonders whether she should
check with Glenborne to see if he wants to press charges::
::Beth reads Kari's mind:: Press charges!! ::Beth walks over to Kari:: I
don't think so. Stephanie should be the one to press charges on him! He
violated her privacy, and refused to leave her quarters. What does that make
him?
::Kar'ral looks at Beth: Talk about privacy -- stop reading my mind!
::Beth stands back:: That is my job.
::Stephanie butts in:: Glenborne hit me back. Wasn't that wrong on his part?
The next thing I knew security was dragging me off to the brig.
::Beth continues protecting Stephanie::
If he had minded his own business, then my daughter .. I mean Stephanie
wouldn't have hit him in the first place.
::Stephanie looks to Beth::: What did you call me?
::Kar'ral is equally taken off guard:: Your daughter? ::She looks back and
forth from Stephanie to Beth::
::Stephanie stares at Beth:: I am not your daughter!
No, she isn't my daughter, but I am her guardian now.
::Kari nods:: I see.
She is like my daughter.
::Stephanie looks puzzled:: In what way?
::Beth turns to Stephanie:: In that it is my job to take care of you and see
that you are all right. I want to protect you like a mother should.
I am 16 -- not some child. I take care of myself.
::Kar'ral can't help but admire Stephanie's determination:: ~~Sounds like me
at that age~~
I took care of myself all those years with the Klingons!
Obviously not or you wouldn't have ended up in the Brig!
::Kar'ral glances sharply at Stephanie:: ~~Klingons??~~
::Stephanie stops, realizing what she just said::
Is that the past you're trying so desperately to hide? ::Kar'ral questions
her::
::Stephanie looks away:: um..uh.. ::She looks at Beth for guidance::
::Kar'ral waits patiently::
Just drop it. ::Stephanie says sullenly::
::Kar'ral crosses her arms and leans back on the desk::
::Beth watches them both:: I can't force you to tell her, Stephanie. It
would probably help her if she knew what you were trying to hide. Then she
would know how much it means to you. All she has right now is someone who
attacked another officer for a reason that she can't understand.
::Stephanie sighs:: What do you need to know about my past?
You tell me.
There's a lot to tell.
::Kar'ral looks at Stephanie steadily:: Tell me whatever you think will
explain your actions.
um..i was raised by Klingons.
Yes? ::waits for more::
::Beth sits back down and puts her hand on Stephanie's knee:: She isn't
going to hurt you, Stephanie.
I went through hell with them. I was their prisioner. ::Stephanie pauses::
::Kar'ral is glad Stephanie doesn't know she's part Klingon::
They used to fight with me and I guess it sorta rubbed off on me. My anger
just built up and Glenborne just crossed the line.
I see. ::looks at Beth:: Well, this is more your department, Counselor.
Yes, Lieutenant. I have been working with Stephanie on her past. I agree
about Glenborne.
But we can't have people going around beating up on our officers. She is
under your guardianship now?
Yes, she is. I don't think that this will happen again as long as the
Lieutenant (j.g) stays away from her.
::Stephanie protests:: Well, we can't have security making fun of me!
::Beth looks at her:: That is a good point, Stephanie. Go ahead and tell
her.
::Kar'ral looks back at Stephanie:: What?
[Return to Archives | Return to Listing ]
Who made fun of you?
One of your smart guards made some remarks to me.
::Kar'ral looks at her PADD:: The one who brought you in?
Yes.
~~Ensign Gard! ~~ What exactly did he say?
He told me I was acting like a "Klingon" and a few other things, too.
Such as? ::Looks at Stephanie gently:: I need to know, Stephanie. I won't
have my security personnel making fun of anyone. You can trust me.
He was just saying stuff about how I lashed out like a mad Klingon and
refused to give me medical attention.
::Beth can feel Stephanie's hatred for making her tell Kar'ral about this::
Those are serious charges, Stephanie. Are you sure about this?
Yes I am. You can even ask Beth. She was there for some of it.
::Kar'ral looks at Beth for confirmation::
::Beth nods:: I can confirm for Stephanie. When I got there I had to give
her medical attention. She had a cut on her face that was still bleeding. And
the guard was very rude to me when I tried to talk to Stephanie.
::Kar'ral turns back to Stephanie:: Were there any other witnesses to what
the guard said to you?
No, there was no one else there.
::Kar'ral frowns and shakes her head:: I apologize for his actions,
Stephanie. That is NOT the way I run my department.
Then why did I end up in the brig and Glenborne in sickbay?
That is an excellent question and I intend to find out the answer.
Glenborne was just as much at fault
This isn't a question of fault, Stephanie. When we take in any prisoner who
is injured, it is our responsibility to see that they get medical attention.
Except me.
I have already apologized for my officer's actions. It will not happen
again. You may be assured of that. ::Looks at Beth:: I hope you will be
able to keep her out of any more trouble, Counselor?
I shall try, Lieutenant.
::Kar'ral nods and stands up. She looks at Stephanie:: Then you may go. I
have no more questions for you now. ::She walks back around her desk and
sits down::
::Beth stands up:: Well, shall we head back to our quarters, Stephanie? I
have dinner waiting for us.
::Stephanie stands up:: I'm not hungry. ::She rushes out the door::
::Beth watches Stephanie leave and starts to follow her out:: But,
Stephanie, you have to eat.
::Kar'ral shakes her head and starts working on her report:: ~~The Counselor
has her hands full with that one.~~
::Beth stops in the doorway:: Isn't that the truth. ::She says to Kar'ral::
::Kar'ral looks up startled:: I hate when you do that!! ::smiles::
Sorry. ::Beth walks out of the room the rest of the way::

TEENA'S INTERVIEW
::Kar'ral walks out of her office and heads for Sickbay. She boards the TL
and calls out for Deck 7::
::Teena is busy in sickbay. She checks bacteria samples for Pavlor::
Kar'ral arrives at Deck 7 and walks into Sick Bay. She looks around and sees
Teena::
Hello, Doctor.
::Teena turns and sees Kar'ral. She smiles:: Hello, Lieutenant.
::Kar'ral glances over at Pavlor:: How is she?
She's still in stasis. I'm working on the serum now. I have a few theories. I
just have to keep working on it.
::Kar'ral nods her head:: I'm sure you'll figure it out eventually.
Is this business or a social call?
::Kar'ral looks around:: Well, actually I was looking for Glenborne. Have
you seen him recently?
I released him yesterday.
I see. Were you the doctor who was on duty when he was brought in?
Yes, I was.
Then I need to ask you some questions.
Alright. Let me put these samples away.
::Kar'ral nods and looks around for somewhere to sit::
::Teena puts the bacteria samples on the shelf:: Would you like to go into
my office?
I think that would be best.
::Teena leads the way into her office. She sits in her BIG chair::
::Kar'ral walks in behind her and takes a smaler chair:: You seem to have
settled in here nicely.
::Teena looks at Kari:: Yes, I have some adjusting to do though.
::Kar'ral smiles:: Congratulations, by the way. The chair looks like it was
made for you!
Thank you, Kari. You asked about Glenborne? Is he in some sort of trouble?
I'm investigating the incident with Stephanie.
I see
::Kar'ral looks at Teena steadily:: Teena, we are friends. But this is an
official investigation. Your answers will be on the record. You treated him
when he came in?
Yes I did, I have the report right here. ::looks at PADD::
What exactly were his injuries?
Let's see....... a broken nose, fractured wrist, bruised ribs and the worse
of it was....... a broken cheek bone that required surgery.
I had no idea his injuries were that extensive!
I kept him overnight for observation. That's about it.
Tell me, doctor, do you think these are injuries that could have been
inflicted by a teenage girl?
::Teena smiles and puts down her PADD:: Well, as I understand it, there was
a
misunderstanding. He really didn't get into details.
Glenborne is an android, correct?
Yes, he is. Oh, yes... ::looks at PADD:: He also had a microchip that was
damaged. Duster helped to repair that.
That seems like a lot of damage for a misunderstanding.
::Teena shakes her head:: Well, that's all I could get out of him. He was
very secretive.
In your professional judgment, do you believe his injuries were caused by
Stephanie?
I really don't know, Kari
I mean, as an android, he's much stronger than she is and is certainly
capable of protecting himself.
Yes, he is. If it was Stephanie he was having this misunderstanding with he
could have really
hurt her.
Did you happen to see the guard that brought him to Sickbay?
No, I didn't see him come in. I was busy with Pavlor.
Did Glenborne say anything about the guard?
No, not to me.
All right. Is there anything else that you think it would be helpful for me
to know?
::Teena thinks:: Well, he didn't want to stay in sickbay. He seemed to be in
a hurry to leave.
::Makes a note on her PADD:: Really? Did he say where he wanted to go?
No, he didn't.
::Kar'ral nods:: One more thing.
Yes?
You say Glenborne was secretive about what had happened?
Yes, very evasive.
So you didn't know that Stephanie had been injured as well?
No, I didn't. Is she alright?
Yes, she's fine. No one called you and asked you to come to the brig and
treat her?
No ... no one said anything.
Do you know if any of the nurses were contacted?
No, the nurses would have put it in their report. There is one more thing
that happened that
night.
::Kar'ral looks up:: Yes?
[Return to Archives | Return to Listing ]
The next morning we discovered that one of our med kits was missing or
misplaced.
Did you ever find it?
No, I didn't.
Do you think that Glenborne took it?
I don't know. I can't see why he would want a med kit unless..........
Unless?
This is just speculation, Kari.
I understand.
If Stephanie was hurt, he might have wanted to use it to help her.
After she just brutally attacked him?
That's kind of a far fetched idea. But if he did take it, I can't think of
any other reason why. He's a strange android.
::Kar'ral makes a note and then puts her PADD down:: All right. Anything
else?
::Teena thinks:: No, I think that's all.
Good. ::smiles:: Then that's the end of the official interview. Now, tell
me how you've been.
::Smiles:: It's always nice to see you, Kari. Well, I get off duty in
awhile and I can't wait.
::Kar'ral sees her friend's excitement:: Can't wait for what?
My husband Chalok and my son Ronny are here and waiting for me in my
quarters. ::She smiles::
They are? Oh, that's great! I understand why you're excited now!
My husband brought someone else with him, too. ::She smiles again::
He did? Who?
You remember my brother-in-law, Ghar, don't you?
::Kar'ral feels her heart leap in her chest:: Ghar? Let me see now.... Oh,
yes. ::tries to be nonchalant::
::Teena continues to bait Kari:: Ronny just adores his Uncle Ghar. Ghar is
so good with children.
::Kar'ral tries not to show her interest:: He seemed to be good with that
Romulan child.
::Teena smiles at Kari knowingly:: Yes, he loves all children. That's what
I liked about him and Chalok. To them, it doesn't matter what you are. It's
who you are inside that counts.
::Kar'ral feels a little envious:: You and Chalok are very happy, aren't
you?
Yes, Kari, I am very happy with him.
Bring your son by sometime. I'd love to meet him.
Oh, I'm sure he'll want to meet you!
::Kar'ral smiles:: It must be wonderful to be a mother.
It is wonderful. Being a mother is the greatest joy I've ever experienced.
I'll be taking a few days off, so if you need to ask me any more questions,
please feel free to contact me at any time.
::Kar'ral nods and stands:: Yes, of course. And if you think of anything
else, let me know. You were very helpful. Thank you.
::Teena stands:: It was nice talking with you, Kari.
I will see you later, Teena.
Good-bye, Kari. ::smiles::
::Kar'ral walks out the door and turns around:: Good-bye.

XO Duty Log
Stardate 9611.03
While in the Draakona system, we were observing a meteor hit into Alpha 317.
Captain Semino, Lt. Cdr. Haven, Lt. Sydney, and Lt. jg. Glenborne were
observing this event from the Ratchet Shuttle by theta 317. The Hermes was
by Beta 317 during this time.
While observing, the meteor had sucked up all the the planet's atmosphere.
Luckily, there were no civilizations down on that planet. Then the meteor
turned towards the shuttle and began to go after it. Beth had the idea to
run the ship in between the meteor (we then discovered that it was a being
and not a meteor) and the shuttle. When this move was done, the being
swallowed up the Hermes and beagn to drain all our power.
Beth came up with an idea after Kari had suggested that we make it sneeze.
Beth thought that maybe if our power became distasteful to the being, it
would spit us out. Donan asked if we could hit it with a phaser fire,
opening it's mouth. It would have been a good idea, but I didn't want to go
against the prime directive by hurting it. Besides it might have ended up
swallowing us.
After a while, Beth and I came up with the idea to eject anesthesia and
muscle relaxant into the creature's mouth, thereby knocking out the being and
being able to pry it's jaws open and get the Hermes out. Teena and Storm
assisted engineering with this idea and we were finally able to get ourselves
out with the help of the shuttle. The shuttle then left a plasma trail for
the creature to folllow and we transported the shuttle crew back to the
Hermes and got the heck out of there.
I am leaving Beth in charge of the bridge and going to transporter room 3 to
look in on the crew.

Our last mission took us to the Draakona System, where we were scheduled to
observe a meteor hit on an uninhabited planet.
The meteor sucked up the planet's atmospere, which was a strange phenomenon
in itself, but then it turned on us & swallowed the Hermes & the Ratchett
shuttle. I think I knew then it was not a meteor.
We had some power drains in sickbay & luckily LtjgjStorm was there to assist
me.I was very concerned over the safety of EnsPavlor. It was vital to keep
her in stasis.Together we were able to keep some of our medical equipment
functioning, with the help of engineering. Storm was able to get engineering
to convert enough power to the bio bed & stasis unit to keep it operational.
Ens Pavlor & I owe Storm a debt of of gratitude, for his quick thinking may
have saved her life. Storm had ended up in sickbay again & I am thankful for
his help.
It was decided to try "putting the creature to sleep", with muscle relaxers &
anesthesia & then opening its mouth with a tractor beam & escaping. I was
called to engineering & told to bring the anesthesia. Storm grabbed the vial
of anesthisia & I took the container of muscle relaxer & we hurried to
engineering. I had decided to use anesthezine, my favorite anesthesia :) &
Indromiticin, a powrful muscle relaxer.
As I combined the two drugs, Storm asked how we were going to administer the
concoction. He was told, by means of a modified phaser array. I immediately
loaded the phaser array with the combination of both drugs.
We fired & the creature fell asleep. We escaped unharmed & were able to beam
aboard the crew from the Ratchett shuttle. The shuttle was sent as a decoy,
the creature followed it & we were able to escape.
I returned immediately to sickbay to check on Pavlor & to return to the
samples of bacteria I was working on.
Note: LtjgjStorm has been invaluable to me in sickbay for many reasons. His
quick thinking & quick reactions has saved lives & he has gone beyond the
call of duty many times for the good of our ship. I have noted this in his
record.

Last night I recieved an "official" visit from Ltn Karral concerning
Glenborne. She asked me alot of questions about the nature of his injuries &
how he got them. I told her all I knew.
This morning I sent off some samples of Pavlor's blood & a full report to Dr.
Russell at Starfleet for analysis. I hope she can confirm my findings &
advise me as to what would be deemed as appropriate procedure in dealing with
this disease.
This will be my last duty log entry until I return back on duty in three
days. I have requested & been granted time off so I can spend time with my

until my return. I will be available if needed, for emergency situations,
since I will not be leaving the ship.

Lieutenant Junior Grade Sydeny has returned to the USS Hermes. She was to be
promoted to the rank of Lieutenant when she was taken. I assume that this
promotion will now take place. That is why I have entered this log as a
Lieutenant Sydney.
I am not aware of all the circumstances to her return to the Hermes. Where Q
is concerned anything is possible. All I do know is that she has returned to
us. In our time frame she has only been gone a month. In her own time
frame, she has lived away from the Hermes fro four years.
In that four years it apears that she did a lot of travelling with Q. Most
of her time however was spent somewhere raising a child. I don't have the
details to the situation yet. I have to have another session with her to
find all of that out.
Different details of her pregnancy were brought out, and it was decided that
it would be in both of our best interest to talk again at a later date.
As far as her duty performance is concerned, I believe that she is indeed fit
to return to duty physically. She has been through a lot of trauma in the
apst four years for her, so I am concerned about her emotional well being.
Unless I see something different in our next session I would say that she
should be cleared for active duty as soon as she wants it.

Today we ran station drills for the Alpha shift. Captain Semino, Commander
Raven, Lieutenant Commander Haven, and myself instructed the crew in various
forms of exercises and questions.
Many of the crew members performed admirably. There were a lot of good
comments and responses from each of them. I am confident that this crew is
only going to gel together better and better the longer we serve together.
A short birthday salute and welcome back was given for Sydney before we began
our drilling exercises. Sydney had to leave for other duties, so we began
the exercises shortly there after.
Duster, Sulu, and Glenborne were notable not present for these drills. I
will have to check the duty shift listing to see if just perhaps they have
been switched to another shift temporarily. If not I will have to make sure
to give them a visit to make sure that all is alright.

Intership Memo
To: Captain Semino
From: Counselor Beth
SD 9610.29
Captain,
I am writing to you concerning our guest engineer Stephanie. I am sure that
by now you have heard about the most recent incident between herself and
Lieutenant Junior Grade Glenborne.
Stephanie was placed in the Brig. I visited her last night. I would like to
make a request on her behalf. I would like to request that she be allowed to
leave the Brig under certina conditions.
# 1 Stephanie should be given a certain amount of hours or service work to
be done in the Lounge as a waitress or something else that works with the
people. I think that this experience would enhance her working amongst the
crew. It would allow her to see how we treat each other, and hopefully help
her to understand all of us better. Then maybe she will feel more like she
belongs.
# 2 I wish to have Stephanie be placed in my care under my direct
supervision. This would entail her living with me. I do understand that
this would cause certain inconveniences, but surely they could be overcame.
I feel that the losses are worth what could be gained by Stephanie in the
experience.
Please consider my requests and let me know what your thoughts are on the
subject.
Thank you
Counselor Bethany Duncan

SD 9611.03
A successful mission? Well yes and no. We were successful in documenting
the phenomenon, but the information was lost when the meteor ate the shuttle
in the end. A bit too much to comprehend? Well the Hermes was swallowed by
this meteor as well.
The Captain departed in a shuttle with Lieutenant Sydney, Lieutenant
Commander Haven, and Lieutenant (j.g.) Glenborne to document the meteor
passing Theta 317. It was supposed to cause a chain of events that had never
before been recorded. Well it did that, just not the chain of events that we
had originally suspected.
I filled in at Helm/OPS during the mission. I was amazed at what the view
screen beheld as the meteor seemed to just suck the atmosphere away from the
planet. Commander Raven commanded the Bridge.
After passing at the planet, and "sucking" the atmosphere from the planet, it
turned towards the shuttle and appeared to chase it. I know that I myself
stared at the meteor for a moment trying to figure out how it could do that.
Commander Raven asked for suggestions as the "meteor" began to cath up to the
shuttle. I set a course for between the shuttle and the "meteor". When we
neared the area the "meteor" opened it's "Mouth" and sucked the entire Hermes
into it's belly.
For a moment I was in shock. We lost all comm contact with the shuttle when
the creature's mouth closed. Commander Raven ordered half impulse so that we
did not travel any further into the creature. She asked again for
suggestions. Anytime a suggestion was made that could harm the creature
Raven turned it down.
It was frustrating knowing that we were only allowed actions that wouldn't
harm the creature. I understand the Commander's reasons. I must say though
that I felt a lot of tension and concern on the part of the crew. It was not
that they questioned her authority, only that they were frightened and they
would do anything to get out of this creature.
After much thought and bouncing around of ideas, it was decided to try to
give the creature a muscle relaxer, then use a tractor beam to "pry" the
mouth open. We were able to coordinate with the shuttle through the
telepathic link that the Captain and I have been working on making stronger.
The shuttle was right outside of the mouth so we were able to communicate
clearly.
Teena, Duster and Stephanie were able to coordinate and release the "muscle
relaxer" into the creature. I am still unsure of what method they used, but
to me it doesn't matter. All that matters is that we were free of the
creature.
It seems that the shuttle was releasing some type of plasma or something
until we could clear the creatures mouth. Once we did, the creature went
after the shuttle again. I locked onto all of their signals and beamed them
back.
With all safely aboard Commadner Raven left me in charge of the Bridge. I
know that she has a lot on her mind. I could sense that there were a few
things that she wanted to take care of and someone that she wished to see.

::Ensign Duster strides up the corridor to the Counselor's door and rings the
bell::
::Beth is in her office sitting at her desk when her bell rings:: Enter.
::The door opens. Duster takes in a deep breath then enters, looking around
as if he were looking for something. He raises one hand as he stops his eyes
on the counselor:: Hallo sir...
Greetings Ensign. ::Beth stands up from her desk:: So nice of you to answer
my request. Why don't you come in, and have a seat on the couch.
That was no problem at all sir. ::He walks over to the couch and takes a
seat staring at the back wall::
::Beth finishes signing an approval for duty for another Ensign. She grabs a
PADD and sits down in a chair across from Duster::
::Duster stares at Beth and blinks:: So ... um what should I do for this?
Nothing much really. I will just ask you some things and you give me honest
and truthful answers.
::Duster grabs his hair that is falling out beneath the back of his hat,
behind his head. His eyes widened::
::PADD in hand Beth begins his questions:: How are you enjoying your post so
far?
::Duster smiles slightly:: Very much sir. I have accomplished quite a bit.
Is it what you expected it to be?
Not quite, I've been active almost every duty shift
Does the action bother you?
I was a little nervous at first, but it's really quite fun.
You didn't expect it to be enjoyable?
::Duster shrugs his shoulders:: I thought my jobs were gonna be pretty
boring. You know diagnostics, and tidying up Main Engineering.
::Beth looks at Duster squarely:: You will find that any Starship can be
boring. ::Beth takes in Duster's appearance:: Besides, I have a feeling
that any ship that you are on won't be boring at all.
Well sir it hasn't been boring so far, and I only hope it gets even better as
I go along. ::He smiles::
You do seem to have a certain flair for your job don't you?
::Duster glances down at the floor and then back up:: Well I'm alright. I'm
not perfect or anything. I've screwed up tons of times before, but I'd like
to think I do a decent job.
I am sure that you do. I haven't had any complaints about that. ::Beth
scrolls up on her PADD to the beginning:: I have read your duty recordings
before requesting this session.
::Duster looks up at Beth:: You read my reports?
Yes Ensign. I usually read the new crew members reports to get to know them
a bit better before requesting their session.
Oh. ::Duster stares off into empty space::
It is quite a task. There are so many crew members on a Starship. That is
why I only concentrate on the new crew members, those that I haven't seen for
their session yet.
::Duster nods, looking back to Beth::
::Beth looks at Duster's dress:: You do, however, seem to have a problem
with Starfleet dress regulations.
::Duster looks down at his current dress, and brightens up:: Yes I know.
::Duster is dressed in a kind of brown, sleeveless, work shirt with his hat
and black pants. His boots are dull::
I know that hat isn't regulation.
::Duster interrupts:: It's just that the Starfleet issues are so
restricting.
::Beth continues:: Your shirt is kind of pushing it, and your boots aren't
even shined. One might take it as a blatant disregard or disrespect for
regulations.
::Duster looks confused for a second:: Pushing it?. What is wrong with this
shirt, its not dirty or nothing. It's just I'm in Engineering so often, and
its hard to work in that uniform.
Yes, pushing it Ensign. I realize that the shirt must be some type of a work
shirt, but I have never seen it used by anyone else. You need to be in
uniform, fully.
Well nobody sees me anyway while I'm on duty
Yes, but there are those that see you walking out of Engineering. They know
that you were supposed to be on duty, and you weren't in uniform.
[Return to Archives | Return to Listing ]
::Duster puts his hands beside him on the couch and moves towards the edge::
But what if I just took it off before I got off duty. That's legal right?
It is usually not proper to be out of uniform until you reach your quarters
or another place and then you can change. Either way the hat is DEFINITELY
not in any regulation book.
::Duster frowns:: You don't like it either. ::He slowly pulls it from his
head::
::Beth moves to the couch:: It isn't that I don't like the hat. It is very
nice, and I am sure that you have a reason for wearing it, but it is not
proper.
::Duster is staring at his hat:: You know this damn thing got me thrown off
my other ship too. ::He blinks and looks to her::
Why do you feel you need to wear it Duster? If it has caused you so many
problems why not just get rid of it or stop wearing it?
::Duster bites his lip then answers:: It's actually kind of a habit
A habit? ::Beth questions::
I mean through out my life my hair has gotten in my way when I'm trying to
work and stuff, especially when I was working for my uncle and stuff. I
started wearing a hat to keep it out of the way, and it only helped me more
when I got into the Academy.
::Beth nods while listening to him explain::
::Duster speaks seriously:: You can't afford to screw up when your fixing
warp cores and that kind of thing.
Have you ever thought of just cutting your hair? That would remove this need
you seem to have for it.
::Duster stands up pulling his hat back on:: It'll just grow back. My hair
grows back very quickly, and this way I don't have to worry about going to
get it cut at all the time.
::Beth thinks that Duster is going to try to leave:: Where are you going?
Please sit back down.
::Duster looks down at Beth sitting:: I'm not going anywhere. Just another
habit.
Duster you might have to worry about getting it cut.
::Duster smiles then sits back down, his hat in place::
A hat isn't regulation, and it is causing a bit of a stir amongst the crew.
The crew is unhappy about it? ::He looks at Beth curiously::
Well others see the hat and then wonder why they aren't allowed to wear one.
They do? To tell you the truth Counselor, I've never run into anyone who
ever wanted to wear a hat on duty other than me.
If one person is allowed to break one of the standards then someone else will
try to break a different one. The departments heads will begin to have a
harder time enforcing the dress code if any other crew members are allowed to
break it.
Duster sits and listens::
::Beth turns on the couch to be facing Duster directly:: For example someone
might hate the boots. ::She pauses:: If you are allowed to keep your hat
then that person might try to wear regular shoes instead of their duty boots.
::Duster has basically let the conversation go in one ear and out the other::
Besides my hair's all messy anyways. ::He moves his eyes to the ground then
looks up:: Hey what if everyone approved of it? Then could I still wear it?
No. ::Beth shakes her head:: It is against Starfleet regulations. We are
sworn to uphold those rules and regulations as officers in Starfleet.
But it ain't hurting starfleet, in fact it's helping them.
::Beth sighs as Duster is getting annoying because he is missing the point
entirely::
::Duster tries to rationalize things to Beth:: You know if some admiral came
aboard I'd take it off. What if I keep it off until I get to Engineering
then I put it back on while I'm in there?
::Beth sighs again::
That would be okay, wouldn't it? It would even help you guys out because I
work better with it on.
::Beth tries to remain calm and refrain from strangling the young Ensign::
It doesn't matter Ensign. I will just recommend that you save yourself a lot
of trouble if you take it off always. If you choose to keep it on, you will
face the consequences. I just thought that you should know that.
::Duster looks back to Beth:: What are the consequences?
[Return to Archives | Return to Listing ]
That will be decided on how long and how far you blatantly disregard these
rules. I am not the Captain, only the Counselor.
But I feel naked without it on. You wouldn't want me running naked through
the ship would you?
::Beth laughs and returns to her chair:: No Ensign we wouldn't want any
naked crew men running around, but being without a hat does not make you
naked. Running into Nurse Random in sickbay when she is off duty is naked.
::Duster is shaking his head. He is looking at Beth:: I'm not gonna be able
to do it. I'm gonna forget
I suggest you really try to remember to take it off.
::Duster is shaking his head faster:: I know I won't be able to remember.
I'm gonna forget. Maybe I'll do it for a while, but I'm gonna forget
eventually.
::Beth looks at her PADD:: I think that is all for now Ensign. I knew that
I needed to address that. I know that you had quite a past history with
breaking the dress code on your last ship. I wanted to save you some of
those problems on this one.
Yeah but that was different the captain on that ship was a ...
::Beth gives Duster a stern look so he doesn't finish his thought:: When you
break even something as simple as the dress code, Captains look at you as a
trouble maker and a rebel.
Yeah but I'm not a rebel or a trouble maker. We just had a difference of
opinion, my last Captain and I.
They see it as a trouble maker. ::Beth continues her thought:: That makes
any other mistakes that you make seem like they were intentional.
But he shouldn't be looking at what I'm wearing. It's what I do that's
important.
When you make their life difficult they make yours difficult.
::Duster looks back to Beth calmly:: That rule is stupid. Don't you think?
I don't want to get back into your reasons for your dress. I will simply say
this. When you dress against the code you are breaking a rule. That is what
matters. You are breaking a rule.
What do you need to be in a uniform for, especially since you are a
counselor. I mean what reason is there for that.
::Beth looks at Duster evenly:: I need to be in uniform because I am ordered
to be. Only very rarely am I allowed to wear other types of clothing. Even
the jump suits that I wear are regulated by Starfleet's standards.
::Duster keeps his lock trying hard to persuade her:: But honestly don't you
think that it doesn't make any sense. I mean it's really unnecessary.
It was necessary to someone so it is necessary for you and me.
::Duster brings his knee up on the couch turning to face her:: But what do
you think? Don't you think its unnecessary? Dont you think its a nuisance?
For something as simple as a slight inconvenience, it doesn't matter what I
think.
Matters to me. Right now after hearing what you said about the crew, I feel
kinda alone on this. I would like to know what you think about it.
::Beth knows what Duster is itching at trying to prove. She decides that she
will give him a bite:: There are times when a uniform is uncomfortable or a
nuisance, but I wouldn't just wear shorts to the Bridge either.
::Duster brightens up:: Thank you sir, I knew I wasn't alone.
::Beth shakes head:: Just because you don't like the rule doesn't mean that
you don't obey it.
::Duster leans back satisfied::
You should always obey such a simple rule as the dress regulation. If you
can't obey that what is to say that you will decide that if you don't like a
superior officer's order you can disobey it. Well I think that is all for
now. I shall keep my eyes and ears open to see if I hear anything else about
your effect on the crew.
Well I'd appreciate it counselor.
If I continue to hear about a negative impact then I will call for you again.
I do hope that you will reconsider the hat. I think it would help you.
It does help me. ::He smiles::

::Beth stands and moves towards the door::
::Duster stands with her and heads towards the door::
I do hope that you enjoy the rest of your day, Duster.
::Duster smiles fixing his hat:: Likewise sir. I'm off duty now. It's
alright that I wear it now right?
::Beth smiles as she watches the him adjust the hat:: I will have to check
on that. Off duty should be fine as long as you are not in uniform at the
same time.
Okay then, thanks for being on my side sir. ::Duster smiles and heads out::
~~His side?~~ ::Beth shakes her head back and forth::
::Duster yells down at Beth as he approaches the TL:: Maybe sir we should
fight this. You could get your shorts, and I could get my hat. ::He waves
smiling then heads into the TL::
Good day Duster. ~~He is a bit delusional though~~ ::Beth shakes her head
again and walks in shutting her door::

open door:: I'm here.
Hello Stephanie. Nice to see you. Please come in.
Sorry I'm a bit late ... something came up.
Not a problem. I understand. ::Beth motions towards the couch in her
office:: Have a seat.
::Stephanie sits down::
You seem a lot happier than when I saw you last.
Yeah \.. I guess I am
Do you feel like you belong more now?
Somewhat I do.
::Beth is happy for Stephanie:: I have heard nothing but praises for your
work in Engineering.
I'll never feel 100% like I belong here
Why not?
Because I don't REALLY belong here.
Everyone seems to love you here. They want you to belong here.
I wish I felt like I belonged here.
What makes you feel like you don't belong here? Is someone treating you
badly? ::There is concern in Beth's voice::
No. ::Stephanie pauses:: I mean some people say things, but it's more than
that. It's hard to explain.
::Beth watches Stephanie very carefully:: You can tell me. I just want to
help. ::Beth answer softly:: Tell me what you can get out.
::Stephanie tries to explain:: It's like growing up and being raised on a
planet for a majority of your life, and then being picked up and dumped on
another planet and told to live their way.
::Beth frowns:: I see,
::Stephanie hastens to add:: Even though it's for the better, you never
really fit in. People look at you differently.
Do you regret us freeing you?
No ... not at all. I'm very grateful.
Who are your friends onboard the Hermes? Is there anyone is particular that
you have grown fond of?
You, Captain semino and Duster.
I am happy that I am a part of that group Stephanie. ::Beth thinks for a
minute:: Duster is that new Ensign with the hat isn't he?
Yes. ::Stephanie starts to look around the room::
Yes he is an interesting one.
He's a character.
He has quite a lot of character too.
Yeah he does :smiles:
Do you like your work here?
::Stephanie shrugs her shoulders:: Yeah. It's ok.
Well at least you aren't having any major problems. I am concerned that you
don't feel like you could ever belong. I know that the crew loves you. Is
there any way that the crew could convince you that they want you to belong.
We are kind of like a family here. For some this is all the family that they
have.
::Stephanie looks solemn:: I don't need convincing. I just will never
belong.
::Beth nods:: Maybe in time you will change your mind.
::Stephanie shakes her head back and forth:: It's like being an orphan.
You're not my real family, and I'll always know that.
::Beth frowns:: As long as you see it that way, it will never change.
I don't want to upset you.
You aren't upsetting me. I am just concerned about you. I want you to be
happy. It saddens me to see that you say you can't be.
I've come a long way. You can be happy for that
Yes you have shown much progress. You wouldn't even let anyone near you when
you first came onboard. ::Beth laughs:: I will never forget the time that I
had to take a hypo for you before you would take it yourself.
::Stephanie drops her head in embarrassment::
::Beth can feel Stephanie's embarrassment:: Nothing to be embarrassed
about. I am sure that if I had been in your position I would have insisted
the same.
::Stephanie raises her head again:: But your strong...
I have weaknesses just like anyone else. There are things that I am happy
that I don't have to face. I don't know what I would do if I ever had to
face them again. I am just as afraid of my fears as you are to yours.
I'm petrified of my past.
Well you have made progress in that respect. You will keep making more
progress as you go along.
I sorta made progress.
[Return to Archives | Return to Listing ]
You are learning quickly. I will send a report to Captain Semino on your
progress. I am sure that he will be pleased. ::Beth stands:: Well I won't
keep you from your duties. I am sure that Ensign Duster is waiting for you
back in Engineering.
::Stephanie looks depressed she has to leave:: Yeah...
::Beth feels Stephanie's depression::
::Stephanie stands::
I would like it if we could have lunch soon.
Uh ... sure. ::Stephanie perks up a little:: When?
Whenever you are free. I try to make myself available to all. I have so
much that I want to talk to you about, but not as your counselor, but as your
friend.
What can we talk about as friends?
Oh I want to be able to ask you about your experiences since you have been
onboard, but I don't want to have to analyze it like I would if we were in my
office.
Okay. That sounds good. ::Stephanie stands near the door:: I will get a
hold of you again for that lunch.
I would like that.
::Stephanie walks out the door:: Goodbye Beth.
Goodbye Stephanie. Have a good day.
I will try to.
::Beth walks back over to her desk to finish the days work::

Sydney Returns, but Should She Have Gone to See the Counselor?
::Sydney walks out of Sickbay and over to turbolift:: I know that I am going
to have to see the Counselor, so why not just get it over with now. Might as
well do it all in one shot.
::Beth is in her office working on some memos. She is nice and relaxed after
spending a couple days camping in the holodeck::
::Sydney enters the turbolift:: Deck 6. ::Sydney looks at floor, thinking::
~~I certainly have gotten a lot of strange looks today~~
::The turbolift door opens on deck 6. Sydney steps out and heads down hall.
She stops for a moment, trying to remember if she's going the right way.
Shaking her head she turns around and heads in the other direction::
::Beth is a bit frustrated at all of the work that she has:: I was only gone
two days. ::She shakes her head in disgust::
::Sydney stops outside the Counselor's door and takes a deep breath. Out of
curiosity she checks to see whether or not Rick is finally out of his
meeting:: Computer locate Captain Richard Semino.
> Captain Richard Semino is in his quarters.
~~I will go see him next. We have a lot to talk about~~ ::Sydney pauses
before ringing Bet's chime::
~~I probably should have sent her a memo first~~ ::She presses the chime.
She can feel her guts clenching::
Enter. ::Beth calls out::
::The door opens to reveal Sydney::
::Beth looks up from her PADD's::
Good afternoon, Counselor. ::sedate::
Sydney?? ::Beth looks at Sydney curiously. She had definitely not been
expecting her as a visitor::
::Sydney feels herself blush:: Yes, sir.
::Beth stands up and motions to the couch:: Please sit down.
::Sydney sits::
::Beth watches Sydney curiously. She moves over towards Sydney::
::Sydney looks at Beth's insignia:: Lieutenant Commander? ::She pauses::
Congratulations.
::Looks at Sydney:: Oh yes I got that after you disappeared didn't I?
::Sydney nervously fiddles with edge of her shirt. She nods:: I don't
remember it.
Where did you go?
Uh ... a little bit of everywhere.
::Beth walks back to her desk and picks up a PADD then moves back over to
stand next to a chair opposite Sydney::
::Sydney watches Beth cross the room and return:: I figured that I would
need to see you before I could be called fit for duty.
Yes. It is customary after a traumatic event to see me before returning to
duty. I think disappearing off the Bridge and returning one month later
would qualify as such.
::Sydney slowly nods::
I do have one question. You will probably think that I am nuts for asking,
but I need to know.
::Sydney looks at Beth:: Yes?
Did Q ever mention Beth?
::Sydney's eyes open wider in mild surprise:: Um ... ::She thinks about it,
then shakes her head no:: I don't think so. ::Sydney arches an eyebrow::
Why would you ask?
::Relaxes a little and then sits down in a hair opposite Sydney:: Just a
silly thought that I had. It must not be true.
::Sydney wonders what is wrong with the Counselor::
::Beth gets ready to begin the evaluation:: So do you have fond memories of
your travels.
::Sydney thinks for a minute or so and smiles softly:: Well, for the most
part, yes. ::She pauses:: Wait !!
::Beth looks at Sydney strangely::
I didn't tell you what I did!
Well I assumed that in a month you did something to remember. You said that
you had been a little bit of everywhere. ::Starts her PADD Recording:: What
did you do Sydney?
Yes I guess I did. ::Sydney gets up and walks over to the view port:: Well
first Q took me all over. He was trying to impress me I guess.
::Beth watches Sydney::
Then ... ::She draws breath:: ... Then he left me in Italy, on earth, for a
long time. ::Sydney stares out window:: ~~It's been a long time since I've
enjoyed this view~~
That sounds like a lot of traveling.
::Sydney nods without turning around. She clasps hands behind her back and
feels her mind wandering::

::Sydney nods without turning around. She clasps hands behind her back and

And how did you feel about all of this. ::Concentrates on Sydney's
thoughts::
At first I was mad. I mean, what right did he have?
You never know what you have until you lose it Sydney. Well Q has always felt
that he has every right to do whatever he wants to.
::Sydney takes a deep breath:: That's for sure. Then ... something happened.
Which I wasn't too happy about at first, but then I was.
::Beth hears Baby in Sydney's thoughts:: A BABY !!!!
::Sydney turns around:: Counselor! ::looks annoyed::
What did he do to you? ::Beth is obviously flustered::
::Sydney stalks to door:: It wasn't Q. ::She feels hot tears spring up in
her eyes::
::Beth gets up and stops Sydney::
Why are you leaving?
I don't appreciate your reading my mind, Counselor.
I am Betazoid it is a natural instinct. I have to think about not reading
minds. Normally I can do it with no one knowing. I was just caught off
guard by your thoughts.
::Sydney blinks to keep back tears, angry:: What about your clients'
privacy?
They ... I mean you have a right to your privacy, but it is my duty to see to
the well being of the crew. ::Looks at Sydney and moves to put her arms
around her::
Please don't, Counselor.
::Sydney moves back to couch, sits::
::Backs away and nods:: As you wish. ::Watches Sydney walk to the couch.
Beth tries to ignore the nagging in her mind of what other things she saw in
Sydney's mind:: May I get you some tea Sydney?
::Sydney puts her face in her hands:: Thank you. Japan Sencha. ::Sydney
tries to figure out what else Beth read in her mind::
Computer cup of Japan Sencha and one mug of mint tea.
::Sydney looks around for tissue box and pulls one out. She wipes her eyes::
::Beth takes the two drinks off the pad. She sets the Sencha in front of
Sydney on the table::
Thank you. ::Sydney says simply::
::Beth takes her own mug and sits back down in her chair:: You're welcome.
::Sydney picks up mug and notices her hand trembling. She stops it and sips
her tea::
Do you know who the father is?
::Sydney sets her tea down annoyed:: What is it with you people? Of course
I know who the father is. What kind of hussy do you think I am?
::Beth is flustered and tried to calm herself and Sydney down:: Please
Sydney. I wasn't trying to imply anything. Q is unscrupulous. He could have
done anything to you, and you would never know.
NO !! ::Sydney yells:: I already told you. It wasn't Q's.
::Beth can't ignore the question in her heart anymore. She has to know the
answer that she is sure she doesn't want to hear:: Is it Rick's?
::Sydney looks shocked and then she looks at the floor::
Sydney I saw the baby in your thoughts, but when I mentioned the baby two
faces came to your mind. One was Q's and the other's was Rick's.
Well you can read my mind anyways. ::Sydney whispers spitefully:: Yes. The
baby is Rick's
::Beth's heart falls with a big THUD to the floor. She stares across at
Sydney::
::There are many long awkward moments of silence between them::
::Beth is the first to speak:: How did this happen? ::She pauses::: I mean
I know how, but when did this happen?
::Sydney whispers:: After I was taken. I came back.
You came back to the ship or to Rick specifically?
To Rick specifically. Q allowed me to come back when I requested it.
I see. ::Beth sighs. She twiddles her thumbs::
::Sydney sits down, bows her head and stares at the floor::
::Beth moves around her chair and sits down:: Have you seen Rick yet since
you came onboard?
[Return to Archives | Return to Listing ]
No. ::Sydney is still looking at the floor:: I had wanted to go see him,
but he was in a meeting that I couldn't disturb.
::Beth nods:: So he doesn't know that you are back yet?
::Sydney looks back up:: I am not sure. I have already been to sickbay and
saw Commander Raven, so I am sure that he knows by now.
I guess this puts you in quite a predicament then. If you haven't seen him
yet then Rick doesn't even know that he has a child. What are you going to
do if he won't acknowledge the fact that he does have a child?
::Sydney looks levelly at the Counselor:: I wasn't sure if I was going to
tell him.
Not tell him? ::Beth questions:: Isn't that somewhat cruel?
::Sydney sighs:: Well it doesn't matter. He can't be Leonardo's father
figure anyway.
Because you had to leave Leonardo behind? Or ... ::Beth eyes Sydney
carefully:: Did you bring him with you and you are just afraid to tell him
about it?
::Sydney draws a breath:: No I had to come back by myself.
::Beth tries to be reasonable, but is still speaking on edge:: Well then I
see that you have a few choices to make .... ::Beth adds muttering under her
breath:: .... and so does he. ::There is an evil glint in her eyes::
::Sydney raises an eyebrow:: I'm not really sure that I am the one in a
position to do anything about it.
Why not? ::Beth snaps:: You are the other party involved. ::Her voice is
sarcastic and hurt as the words she says echo her own feelings:: Don't you
have a say in what happens in your life? Or do you let others run it for
you?
::Sydney eyes Beth levelly with a glint in her eye:: Well I had a pretty
good say in what happened before between him and I. ::Sydney rubs the salt
in the wound further:: I didn't exactly have to twist his arm, and I do
believe that HE followed MY lead during the visit.
::Beth moves to the edge of her chair and tries to keep herself seated before
she strangles Sydney on the spot:: I would imagine not. ::She continues
sarcastically:: With all of those pheramones that you have at your disposal
you have an advantage. Some of us have to revert to traditional means of
seduction without all those extra amenities that you are born with.
::Sydney stands up hotly, angered and annoyed:: You mean to tell me that my
body isn't good for him? Or doesn't it meet with your approval?
::Beth stands up and faces Sydney trying to hold her hands behind her back::
You had just better watch those ears Lieutenant or you might wake up without
them.
::Sydney wiggles her ears defiantly:: Oh yeah.
Yeah. ::Beth starts to reach out to rip them off then stops mid air and
returns her arms to her side. She walks towards her desk:: I do believe
that it is time for you to leave.
Well that's just fine with me. The Captain was in his quarters before I got
here so maybe I will just pay him another visit.
::Beth stares angrily at Sydney. She says through gritted teeth:: Do what
you wish. I can't stop you. ::She pauses not looking at Sydney only the
door:: I think that we should discuss things again after you have had a
chance to see your precious Captain. Then I will give you your approval to
return to duty, but not before you see me again to let me know how it turned
out.
If that is what you wish. ::Sydney starts to walk across the room to the
door:: Good day Counselor. ::Sydney stomps out of the room::
::The door shuts to Beth's office and Sydney walks to the turbolift. She
works at trying to calm herself:: ~~I can't believe that I blew up at Beth
like that. Why was she so mad anyways? I had heard something about a past
between her and Rick, but wasn't that in the past?~~ ::The turbolift
continues until it reaches the deck that Rick's quarters are on, then she
exits the turbolift heading for them::

This is Ltjg Storm Assistant Chief of Security,I am overseeing the
operations of the security station during Lt Karrals sleep period. It seems
once again we have stumbled upon an unknown....The Hermes was tasked to
observe a metoer in the Darooka system.A shuttle crew was dispatched while
the Hermes held further back...The Shuttle crew consisted of Captain
Semino,LtCmdr Haven,Lt Sidney,and Glenborne.The Metoer took on a life of its
own closing on the shuttle...the Hermes move to intercept..and not
only did the Hermes do that it managed to get swallowed. After realizing
what ws going on,I myself rushed to sickbay as the power began to falter.Lt
Teena advised me of her situation upon arrival and I assisted her the best I
was able....not knowing much in that field.Stephinie Pike was instrumental in
restoring partial power to sickbay and without her assistance ensign Pavlor
might have been put in seriuos danger. After helping the CMO the bridge called
sickbay and began asking Lt Teena for something
to maybe inject and slow this beast down that had swallowed the Hermes. She
yelled for me to grab something but not knowing much medical jargon she had
to point it out to me.Picking up the desired items we rushed to
engineering, where we waited and watched Ensign Duster work his magic altering
wiring and crossing this and that. When he was ready Lt Teena placed the drugs
where Ensign Duster indicated and the next I knew the Hermes was free but
minus one shuttle

We have just completed a mission to Alpha 317, Drakkona system. We had been
sent to observe the close pass of a meteor that would drain the planet of its
gasses and cause it to burn out.
As the meteor began its pass over the planet, and the planet's atmosphere
began its depletion, I worked on scans and analysis of the phenomena.
Suddenly the meteor changed course, and we realized it wasn't merely some
ball of rock and gases, but a living entity.
The Hermes moved on an interception course, but the thing swelled until it
was about ten times as big as the Hermes. I'm sure the scans we collected
will be absolutely fascinating to analyze. The creature ate... I mean,
consumed the Hermes and we lost contact.
On board the shuttle, we brainstormed to try to come up with some possible
means of getting the Hermes out of the creature's "mouth". Rick ...
computer, delete that last word and resume... Captain Semino discovered that
he was able to telepathically communicate with somebody aboard the ship, so
we were able to coordinate a plan with the Hermes.
Using a combination of plasma venting from both ships, combined with a dose
of anesthetic from the Hermes, we were able to extract the Hermes from the
creature. The creature did not pursue us, thankfully.
The AT was beamed back aboard the ship. After we complete our scans on the
system it will be on to a point near the Neutral Zone.
Initial analysis of data that we have gathered thus far indicates that the
creature was using Alpha 317 as a "feeding ground," using the planet's fiery
atmosphere perhaps as an internal fuel or internally contained breathing
supply. Glenborne will be assisting me on analysis of the creature's
biostructure.

Well, in all honesty there isn't much I can report. I don't have alot of
memories from the ecounter on the away mission. Even when I was "myself"
again, my mind was kind of like swiss cheese. The first thing I remember is
comming back to reality in sick bay, and getting called up for a promotion.
From what I understand, I had a prety rough time down there. I guess I was
informed correctly since I have only one working eye right now. This patch I
replicated until my eye ball completly regenerates
itches but it beats having to look into an ocular cavity in the mirror. I
should be able to return to duty within a few days.

Two days ago I recieved a subspace message from a long standing collegue
from home. It seems Jarol Resmon one of my old friends from the medical
institute I used to work at has a theory he's been working on for some time.
It is in short, a possible cure for the supersoldier inhancements that I hae
been gifted with. If it works as well as he thinks it will, it could mean
the end of the nightmares, the blood lust and even the special "tallents" of
the supersoldiers. Although I have seen many of
these theories cross my path, and everyone get shot down for one reason or
another, I am optimistic regarding this one. I have been asigned light duty
until my eye heals completly, (which it finished healing yesterday but why
look a gift horse in the mouth) so I am checking out his data. I plan on
running it through a large number of tests on my dna, blood, and anything
else I can come up with to disprove the treatment. I really hope I can't
prove anything outside of it working.

::two hours later::
After several tests this shows great promise. I am only a fraction of the
way there but its looking good so far. From his notes, he lacked the ability
to test the cure in a couple of environments that he didn't have acces to...
I'm proud that he chose me to continue the experiment. Well, I have another
twenty thirty hours to wait for the next test I just finished running to show
results, I think I'll hit the Holodeck for a while then go to my room to feed
the Lizard.

We are headed to the Draakona system to study the central planet, Alpha 317.
First reports from DS7 were incorrect. A star is not exploding. The
following information was sent subspace from DS7.
===FILE TRANSFER
===From: Deep Space 7
===File name: Draakona A317
===Stardate: 9610.26
The planet was first mistaken for a small sun. Further investigation
revealed that the explosive core of the planet reacts with the atmosphere to
eject intense light, heat, explosions, and flares much like a sun. However,
the gases in the atmosphere are consumed during each explosion. Therefore,
eventually, the planet will ... "burn out" much like a lightbulb would.
A giant meteor orbits the planet in an elliptical pattern, grazing the
planet's atmosphere during each pass every 133 Earth years. Everytime the
meteor passes just slightly over the planet's atmosphere, the meteor's
gravitional forces pulls away some of the gases, bringing the planet to its
ultimate fate even faster. During the meteor's next pass, the planet is
expected to "burn out."
The Science team on DS7 predict the planet will "burn out" on stardate
9611.03. The results will be a tremendous drop in gravitational pull from
this central planet releasing the other two planets (Beta and Theta) and the
meteor from its grasp. The other two planets and meteor are expected to be
propelled in an endless journey out into space. This is an opportune time to
study this phenomenon up close.
o Theta 317
---=====@ Meteor
(@) Alpha 317
o Beta 317
MISSION OBJECTIVES
The Science team will take a shuttle to Theta 317 to observe the "burn out."
The Hermes will view the "burn out" from Beta 317.
Captain Semino, Lt Sydney, and Ltjg Glenborne will take a shuttle on
SD9611.01 to get in position to view the event. LtCdrHaven will also join
the shuttle team to maneuver the shuttle in strategic locations for closer
study. Commander Raven will command the Hermes.

>Log opened. You may begin when ready.
Captain's log, stardate 9611.03
We just returned from our shuttle mission after observing the dying planet
Alpha 317 in the Drakkona system. The meteor, that was scheduled to scrape
the surface of the planet, draining the remaining gases that kept the planet
burning, unexpectedly changed its course towards our shuttle.
We quickly altered our course only to find the meteor matched our headings.
After some panicky scans, we realized the meteor was actually some kind of
"space fish" that fed off the planet's plasma-type gases and was now prepared
to feed off of ours.
The Hermes responded immediately to intercept, but the creature expanded it's
apparent mouth, and eneveloped the entire Hermes starship. We lost
communications at that point, but I was still able to communicate
telepathically with the ship's Counselor, Bethany Duncan.
After many alternatives were explored, the final plan was two-fold. The
Hermes released a anesthetic in the plasma exhaust to relax the creature and
slow its responses, while we led the shuttle by the creature to provoke it to
open its mouth. Once the creature opened its mouth, the Hermes escaped
unharmed, less some power drains. The creature did not pursue.
We are completing investigations in this system and heading to security point
Suriv Dloc near the Romulan broder to repair one of our relay probes.

Computer > Duty log open.
The Hermes was sent on a mission to Suriv Dloc to examine a relay probe near
the Romulan border. When we arrived, we discovered that the probe was
apparently an old Romulan one. Glenborne indicated that there was a low
subspace pulse eminating from the probe. At the same time, Haven found a
Romulan tactical database within the probe that he thought might be
important. The Captain ordered me to set up a link with the probe and start
downloading the database to our computer.
Almost immediately systems started failing all over the ship. The lifepod
ejection system was the first to go, with the air filtering systems close
behind. These were followed by the warp core ejection systems, shuttle bay
doors, communications, and the auxiliary power banks. Obviously, this had
something to do with the probe, but it was unclear whether it had been caused
by the active download link or by the subspace pulse.
Several ideas were proposed by the crew to resolve our problem. Finally, the
Captain decided to destroy the probe with a well-placed torpedo. Standard
computer operations remained offline as well as the shields and helm. As if
that wasn't enough, the computer detected that a warp core breach was
imminent. Since the ejection system was offline, there wasn't much we could
do.
I found out later that Ensign Duster remained in Engineering when the doors
were shutting automatically in response to the warp core breach warnings. He
was able to reset the system, but the exposure to the lethal radiation was
too much for him and he was killed. Due to his bravery and self-sacrifice,
the Hermes was then able to get away from the strange effects of the Romulan
probe.

Duty Log
Stardate 9611.10
The Hermes had encountered a probe of some unknown origin. After much
analysis, it was believed to have contained a tactical Romulan database. The
captain wanted to bring the probe aboard the ship. I had decided against it
and suggested that we download the database in case the probe contained any
traps. When Kar'ral started the downloading...let's just say this is where
all the fun began.
First, the life pod ejection systems went down. It looked a little peculiar,
but since we really didn't need them right away, engineering seemed pretty
laid back about it. And so did we. Then, the air filtering systems went
out. Next came the warp core ejection systems. Everything little by little
went out on the ship. When the computer had annouced that it had began a
countdown for the warp core ejection, Donan and I tried to make our way down
to engineering through the jeffries tube since the
turbolift had shut down. When we got to engineering, Donan tried to get the
door open but all the jeffries tube doors were magnectically sealed. We had
no choice but to wait since there was no where else to go. Somehow, the
captain had made his way down the jeffries tube before the doors shut down
because he appeared by our side very soon.
Next thing we knew, everything came back online. We were able to get the
door open and when we entered, we had found Lt. jg. Duster lying on the floor
and Stephanie Pike sitting next to him, clutching his hat. I ran over to
Duster's side only to find no signs of life. Teena made her way to
engineering and tried to revive him, but to no avail. Duster was....dead.
The captain and I contacted Beth to come for Stephanie, who was grieving for
Duster. She ran out of the room shortly before Beth arrived.
Engineering records show that Duster manually disbaled the warp core from
ejecting. Doing so, he scarificed his own life by being exposed to the
radiation that flooded engineering. Stephanie herself was able to get back
in when the air filtering systems went on and cleaned the air in engineering,
so she was not exposed to radiation and if she was, it was very minimal.
We are now trying to contact Duster's sister on Earth to let her know of her
brother's death. We have lost a good officer and I don't think any of us,
especially Stephanie, will get over this.

I came in today only for a short time to check medical charts & EnsPavlor. I
am officially off duty for two more days, but I had to make sure everything
was in order. I also wanted to write the official report on Duster's cause of
death to add to his records.
:::sighs sadly:::::
Let the record show that Ensign Duster died in the line of duty from a lethal
dose of radiation. We tried all known methods of resuscitation but the damage
to his vital organs & cerebral cortex was to extensive. He was already dead
by the time I reached him, all of my efforts were to no avail. Too little too
late. I have attached my autopsy report for Starfleet headquarters in this
file.
Ensign Pavlor is still in stasis & I await recommendations from Dr. Russell
concerning her case & the mutated bacteria.
Added Notes: Ensign Duster is the first patient that I have lost while in the
post of CMO. I am feeling a personal as well as a professional loss. I could
not save him. All my training & expertise as a doctor was not enough. I had
never felt so helpless. He was a friend & collegue & I will miss him. I have
this nagging feeling that I could have done something more, something to save
him.

Glenborne approaches Security Chief Kar'ral's door and presses the button.
Kar'ral is sitting in her office reading her notes. She hears the chime.
"Come in."
Glenborne enters. "You wished to see me, Lieutenant?"
Kar'ral looks up. "Ah, yes, Glenborne. I was beginning to think you were
avoiding me."
"No."
"Have a seat." She gestures to a chair.
Glenborne sits down. "What is this in reference to?"
"I wanted to talk to you about Stephanie."
"Ms. Pike? And our incident?"
"Correct. I understand you suffered a lot of injuries."
"Many. As did she...I think."
"Not as bad as you, though. How are you feeling now?"
"I am functioning within normal parameters."
"Good."
"How are you?"
Kar'ral looks amused. "I'm fine. Can you tell me how this whole thing
started?"
"Yes......well it began when I went to Stephanie's quarters. We had had
dinner a few nights before. I came across a conversation she felt displeasing
and I wanted to continue the talk."
"I see. So she invited you back?"
"I was not invited."
"But she let you in willingly?"
"Quite so. I told her I had to speak with her about engineering equations. It
was a lie. I needed to speak with her."
Kar'ral frowns and makes a note on her PADD. "I see."
"You seem displeased."
"You entered her quarters under false pretenses."
"Yes I did"
"Later, she asked you to leave, is that correct?"
"That is correct"
"But you did not."
"I did not resist leaving but I did insist on speaking with her."
"What was so important?"
"She is quite unncomfortable about her past and I stumbled across knowledge
of it and, shall we say, I thought she should talk."
"And you thought you were the one she should talk to?"
"I did. We were the closest in age onboard at the time. The only person with
knowledge to her past."
"Yet, she clearly did not want to talk to you. In fact, she asked you to
leave several times I understand."
"Three times to be correct."
"How old are you?"
"21 years old."
"And therefore an adult. Harrassing a young girl in her quarters without a
guardian present could get you into a lot of trouble, Mr. Glenborne.
Harrassment? There is such a thing as caring harrassment? I always thought
it was oxymoronic. I am not considered an adult under Starfleet code.
Reference law 112 subsection 8."
"What is this law you are quoting?"
"It states that a cybernetic humanoid without full knowledge of his
chronological age is considered a minor."
"Interesting." She makes another note on her PADD. "Thank you for
enlightening me."
"Quite so."
"At some point then, this "discussion" became a physical confrontation?"
"I did not intend for it to get as bad as it did. She has a temper."
"She attacked you first?"
"Physically, she did attack first. But I should be blamed for starting in on
her privacy."
"I'm glad you recognize that fact."
"I recognized it at the time as well."
"The fight took place in the hallway, correct?"
"Correct."
"Then security was called?"
"I believe I heard a voice call security....I will check my mental logs."
"Did you hear the guard say anything to Stephanie?
"The security officer was quite rude."
"What did you hear?"
"He insulted Stephanie and myself by calling us barbaric Klingon slime. She
took major offense."
"I can imagine."
"I pleaded with the guards to take me as well. They refused and took me to
Sickbay instead. I told the doctor it was unfair."
"Do you know why the guard took you to Sickbay and not her?"
"I am uncertain, but I had lost more blood and she was doing more of the
attack than I. It most likely looked like she was just assaulting me."
"Was she bleeding?"
"Only by her lip ...mostly I harmed her accidentally internally when I took
her off my eye socket. She was attempting to rip out my eyes, you see."
