::sighs:: Captain Tnagra left today.

But know what?? I wasn't there!! I had to hold the fort up in Engineering
because all the *real* character crewmembers got to attend. Not me, though!
You'd think, with my spotless record of attendance, that I'd at least get to
see Tnagra leave. Is there a prejudice against NPCs <<non-player
characters>>??

Well, I never really knew the Captain anyway. Supposedly, he was a great man.
I am sad to see him leave.

I was passing by LT Sperol in Engineering and saw this memo he was writing:

<<
Memo:

To: Captain Tnagra, Captain Ahrele
cc: The Crew of the Darmok
Sub: Ensign Random

Sir(s), I would just like to point out to you the outstanding job that Ensign
Random has done over the past few months aboard the Darmok.

He has been competent in every single major category of a ship's crew. He has
helped save the ship on numerous occasions on the Engineering staff. He was
integral to the capture of the Maquis prisoner as a Security man. He has even
helped our Medical staff on occasion in times of need. And who is a better
plot device as a miscellaneous person or scapegoat in a log?!?

His longevity, also, is unsurpassed. He has attended every single sim. Even
if he was not seen, he was always in the background, helping.

Your failure to promote him is, in my eyes, a grievous oversight. I recommend
him to be included in your next wave of promotions.

-----
LT Thomas Sperol
Assistant Engineer
USS Darmok
>>

I don't know about the scapegoat part, but otherwise, I thought Sperol was
trying to promote me in vain. Why would I get promoted?

But the letter got me thinking. Just exactly why haven't I been promoted?? I
had attended many sims. What else was there?

One thing.

I hadn't written any logs.

That's why I'm starting now! With luck, I can make a duty and personal log
for each sim I attend! Maybe the captain will take notice and promote me!

Random: Computer, simulrecord the following to Sperol's duty and personal log
files.
Computer> Begin when ready.

I finally returned from shore leave today. I think I must have been the last
one on the ship!

Well, nothing memorable about this shore leave. Saw Earth again, but since
I've lived my whole life there, there wasn't much new. It was nice to be
back, but I want to explore strange new worlds and stuff like that.

Engineering, of course, is my specialty, but I also guarded the entrances to
the Darmok for Security, delivered some medical supplies for the Medical
staff, did the virtual weapons tests for Tactical, and did the sensor tests
for Science.

Otherwise, not much happened today. Sperol was acting a little weird. You
see, we were moving LT Janar's things from her shuttle onto the Darmok, but
every so often, Sperol would suddenly look happy or distressed. Since he
isn't telepathic, I fail to see what he could've been so emotional about.
Whatever...

Another thing about Sperol... apparently, part of his Trecer holodeck program
has been overwritten with something called "white_rbt.obj" I have an idea of
what that means, but I can't say it now...

Our mission was a dangerous one (for a change!!!). We were met by a
spider-like being while en route to rescue the Pegasus. This arachnoid
proceeded to drain our energy reserves. After careful deliberation, Kvada
went out to cut it away from ship using the Killer Bee. Of course, he
succeeded in his mission, and then proceeded to cut away the energy web
holding the Pegasus. Wea re now proceeding on our way to the planet
Q'uonos(Ithink).Of course, I never know what to expect around the next star

Captain's Log SD9702.01

The USS Darmok has arrived at Qo'noS after rescuing the Federation transport
ship Pegasus which had become ensnared in a web and could not move. The
Pegasus was caught in the Vrakian Asteroid Field and sent a distress call.
The Darmok responded to the call and entered the asteroid field to render
assistance. Despite the careful navigation of LtJgTambrot, the Darmok became
entangled in a web as well and was rendered immobile. Within a few minutes a
large creature emerged from behind the closest
asteroid and following its web out proceeded to wrap the Darmok up in more
of its silicon and neutrino particle web.

The Darmok officers offered many suggestions as to how to deal with the
situation. If we had more time, I would have found this specimen an
interesting one to study, but given the current situation, it was necessary
to do something more immediate. Using the combined ideas of FstLt Tryst and
Lt K'Vada, we utilized the Reconn protocols and projected a false image of
another ship to lure the creature away from the Darmok. Tryst launched a
killer bee and used it to cut away the web surrounding the Darmok.
The plan was a success and the Darmok was freed. We proceeded on to the
Pegasus and repeated the process there freeing them as well. While shaken by
the experience, the passengers of the Pegasus were unharmed and the transport
ship was able to continue on its way. The creature was last monitored
retreating back behind an asteroid into a deep crevice. We launched warning
buoys to alert future ships from entering the field and possibly becoming
trapped as well.

Upon our arrival at Qo'noS, I contacted the Federation Embassy and FstLt
Amber Trent to inform her of our arrival. She expressed some concern at our
delay and stated she was ready to beam up at our convenience. Following her
arrival on the ship, we will rendevous with the Beta Quadrant Supply Depot to
check on future inventory items before proceeding on with our mission.

LtjgEvita: Computer...open duty log, LtjgEvita

Stardate 9702.01

I have just finished checking on the few patients we have left in sickbay. I
will be filing the report on Ensign Cabrillo & Ensign Chang.

Diagnosis of Ensign Cabrillo:
Cabrillo sustained minor injuries when a plasma torch overloaded & shorted
out in his hand. The very hot ionized gas, inflected second dgree burns on
the palm of his hand.

We administered tralazine, by use of the medical tricorder, to promote
healing & regeneration of the injured tissue. I also gave him a hypospray of
Darvozone for pain.

He was released from sickbay after appropriate treatment.

End of Medical Report for Ensign Cabrillo

Diagnosis of Ensign Chang:
Ensign Chang reported to sickbay with complaints of pain in the lower back. I
examined him with a medical tricorder & discovered a small growth. I
immediately checked for malignancy & to my relief determined the small growth
was benign & could be easily removed with minor surgery.

We administered anesthizine as anesthesia. Made an incision in the area of
his Lumber Vertebrae, over the small tumor. I clamped off the arteries &
tissue with neural callipers & extracted the growth using my exoscalpel &
tissue mitigator. Closed the wound with autosutures & gave him a hypospray of
Corophizine to prevent infection.

Ensign Chang is resting comfortably in sickbay & will be released fit for
duty within 24 hours.

End of Medical Report For Ensign Chang

Assistant Chief Medical Officer's Log Stardate 9729.1:

All medical stations report no problems. Injuries among the crew
have decreased. Minor compliants have been seen to and corrected.
Crewman Mercy Evaro complained of a sharp pain in the abdominal area. Upon
examination it was found that she had an inflamation of the lower larger
intestine. Proper procedures were taken. All tests now are in the green for
the Crewman. Two crew entered with minor injuries, cuts and contustions, from
the activity in a rock climbing holo program. Ensign Yo'Chuv broke his wrist
in a game of Parsees Squares. All crewmembers are healthy and healed.

Note to the Head Resident: We are lacking certain herbs that are required in
Bajoran pregancies. Replicated Herbs are not acceptable due to the point that
the replicator is not omnipotent in creating a complete replica. Request that
these herbs listed in an attached file, be ordered and picked up. Other non
conventional Medicines are also lacking the medical supplies. All Medical
Supplies are Starfleet Standard and certain species do require other
medicional needs.

Computer> Begin when ready.

We finally arrived at the Vrakian asteroid field. The Pegasus was trapped in
a web of some sort, remember? Well, we got captured by the web, and then some
sort of creature tried to attach itself to us. We were having a mild energy
drain, but LT1 Tryst managed to get outside with a killer bee and cut the
strands that held us while the creature was distracted by a holographic
duplicate of ourselves. We were freed, and Tryst proceeded to free the
Pegasus.

We are now enroute to Qo'nos to pick up our new "Beta Liason Officer,"
whatever that means. I hear that her name is "Amber Trent," and that she's a
Trill.

::sighs::

Computer, close duty log, open personal log,
Computer> Begin when ready.

It wasn't too demanding a mission for Engineering. We were never in any real
danger of exploding, imploding, disappearing, or dying.

I wonder what the web and the creature were doing there. Is that its home?

And why was the Pegasus so deep in the asteroid field in the first place?

Well, I'm sure that Science got enough sensor readings on that creature to
make an assessement.

::sighs deeply::

A sense of forboding pervades my soul.

What is it that I fear is coming?

Why do I fear it so?

I do not know the answers the these questions. I am sure that if I did, they
would only bring more questions.

I definitely fear something.

No.

The word is not "fear."

The word is...

I don't know what the word is. I wish I did. Maybe it would clear up all of
this.

I feel it, however. I feel that it is coming.

What is it?

Something is in jeopardy. Or was. Or will be.

What?

Who?

Me?

The ship?

The universe?

Is it something so tangible? So real?

Or is it unreal? A spectre of the mind?

Another feeling prevails. That I will eventually come to know what the fear
is.

And that the fear itself will be the object of undoing.

And the object of destruction.

::falls silent::

Computer, open Sperol's duty log and add the following entry.
Computer> Begin when ready.

This is Ensign Random here.

We have arrived at Qo'nos - finally! We were, of course, held up in that
creature's web in the Vrakian Asteroid field.

For once, I was not needed at all. Engineering didn't need to repair things,
Science had more than enough officers, there were no Security issues, and of
course, I'm not allowed in Reconn.

Oh well, not every mission can involve me. Though I wish they did... Just
kidding.

Computer, close Sperol's duty log, open his personal log, and add the
following entry.
Computer> Begin when ready.

I was stuck in my quarters for the duration of the mission. When I came out,
LT1 Yular ordered me to clean the warp nacelles. ::shakes head:: That's LT
Sperol's job.

I went to ask why he wasn't doing it. He was really jumpy, but he wouldn't
tell me why. I expected that kind of answer. Lately, he's seemed, well,
distant. Not distant like Yular had been though. Something else. Something
different.

Well, he said that he requested that Yular make someone else do it, that
someone ending up being me. He didn't explain why he didn't want to do it
anymore, but he was so serious, I assumed he had a very good reason. I
pressed no more. At least I got the bucket.

I finished the diagnostic on the holodeck systems. They checked out. Out of
curiosity, I also checked if anyone had had a program with the image of Cupid
in it. No one did. The rumors have stopped, however. Maybe he's gone.
::laughs:: What am I saying? He wasn't real! Probably some massive practical
joke against all the junior officers. I was going to ask Sperol, but again,
he wasn't in a talking mood

Soon, we'll be setting off for the Beta Quadrant! Yes! Unexplored planets
with unforeseen dangers... or untold riches! First contact missions galore!
Too bad I won't be on any away teams. ::sighs:: Those are reserved for those
crewmen of higher rank. What I would give to be on that first mission!
Exploring planet's forests, caves, plains... meeting strange aliens and
civilizations! Who knows? Maybe we'll find a race just like us! Or maybe
we'll find a race that we don't even know is a race! Clouds of
energy, multi-dimensional entities... the possibilities are endless when
you're on an away team!

The only bad thing about away teams is that there is a much higher chance of
getting killed on them. If I die in Starfleet, I want to die helping the ship
while on the ship. I remember back to LT1 Tryst's ordeal with the Breons. She
was mortally hurt and barely survived. ::sighs:: Sometimes I don't envy
senior officers. They have to make the decisions that affect the whole crew,
all <<however many of us there are>> of us. They decide who lives and who
dies... Well, actually, that's just the captain.

Speaking of senior officers, there've been many rotations up on the bridge.
::briefly looks up in reverence again:: LT1 Tryst is now Chief of Security,
LTj Tambrot has become Helm, LT Janar is now a Reconn officer, too... Plus,
the CMO has changed! Again! It's all very confusing. I hope I don't get them
all confused!

::His thoughts turn back to Sperol.::

I should really get the Counselor to see Sperol. I'm worried about him.
Something is definitely bothering him.

CHECOV'S SESSION

::Sierra is in her office, reorganizing her desk, while she waits for her
next appointment:: The doorbell sounds::

"Come!" {S door}

Checov enters.

Sierra smiles. "Ensign Checov, welcome, have a seat."

"Thank you for seeing me." She sits down in the chair next to desk.

"Can I get you something to drink?"

"Thank you, I'll have a ginger ale."

Sierra gets up and goes to replicator. "One ginger ale, iced. And one Tazo
Mambo tea, hot." She hands the ginger ale to Checov, and takes a seat on the
couch, PADD in hand. "How are things coming along for you on the Darmok?"

Checov sips the ginger ale. "Very good sir, I feel very welcome here."

"That's great. How are you doing in the science department?"

"Lieutenant Janar has been quite helpful. I still feel a little awkward
handling the equipment, but that will pass, I'm sure."

Sierra nods. "No doubt. The Darmok's equipment is a little more advanced
than the standard."

"I look forward to familiarizing myself with the new maps that we just got in
stellar cartography."

"This will be an interesting mission. The science department will be kept
very busy, I imagine."

Checov smiles. "Yes, I'm sure it will keep me on my toes, so to speak. I
won't even have time to miss my kitty, Greezabella."

"What got you interested in Starfleet?"

"Well, I used to hear the stories Quark came home with about Starfleet
officers."

Sierra smiles, wondering to herself if any were flattering. "What type of
stories?"

"Well, stories about their hollow legs and taste for attractive women; Quark
does have a silver tongue at times. I suspect most of them were wildly
exaggerated."

Sierra chuckles. "I've met him before, he's quite..... charming."

Checov continues, "All his Starfleet officers sounded wildly attractive to
me."

Sierra chuckles again.

"I could barely wait to grow up and meet one -- and somewhere along the line,
I decided I wanted to BE a Starfleet officer."

"I take it your family was not very happy about your decision."

"No, they were not; but then, I've always been a rebel."

Sierra smiles. "Did you get into a lot of trouble when you were younger?"

Checov nods. "When I left Ferenganon for the Academy, I was escorted by two
armed Ferengis who made it clear I was not to return. When I was growing up,
I used to sneak into Quark's establishment once a day on the average;
naturally, I wore typical women's clothing -- that is, non-Ferengi women's
clothing... It would create quite a stir -- a Ferengi woman clothed???? If I
felt REALLY daring, I would wander around the planet wearing men's clothes,
and artificial lobes."

"And what did you do, in disguise?" Sierra has gotten wrapped up in Checov's
story; she remembers her tea, and takes a drink of the now-cold beverage.

"I became quite the whiz at the Dabo tables, and there are a few Ferengi
women who remember me fondly." She winks at Sierra.

"Really...? How interesting...."

"I was quite friendly." She winks again.

"Were you ever found out?"

"No, but it was a close call ... although deep down, I suspect they knew."

Sierra makes a few quick notations on her PADD. "You and Lieutenant Rogers
had an arranged marriage, correct?"

Checov nodded. "Yes; Quark insisted I do that much, at least, as a proper
Ferengi female, and I felt I owed him that much, at least."

"He was your legal guardian, correct?"

"Yes. He knew my parents well."

"How did you feel about that?"

"I was still mourning the loss of my parents; I would have been grateful for
anyone willing to take their place. And of course, I had Nog to play with."

Sierra remembered overhearing Quark talking in his bar on DS9. "Nog's a few
years younger than you, correct?"

"Yes, he is. I had someone I could terrorize, in a nice way, of course."

Sierra laughs again. "He's in SFA now, correct?"

"Yes, he is, and I hear he's doing well."

The chronometer beeps on Sierra's desk, and she looks over at it in dismay.
"Oh, what a drag!" She smiles at Checov. "Thank you so much for stopping by,
Ensign."

"Thank you again for your time."

"Anytime, it was a pleasure. And please tell Rogers I'm looking forward to
that dinner he promised."

Checov smiles. "Yes, once the vegetable garden gets really underway."

Checov stands up and heads for door; Sierra walks her out on her way to the
bridge.

Sierra came to the realization that she was standing in the WMS room. She
looked around, trying to figure out how she had gotten there. ~~I don't

"Can I help you, Commander?" The ensign's face was unfamiliar. Probably

Sierra shook her head. "No... I... thank you, though." She turned and
walked out of the room, pressing her fingers to her forehead as she walked
down the hallway to the TL.

The TL doors opened, and she stepped in. "Deck 5." Sierra leaned against

times during the past week or so, she had woken up during the night to find
herself fully dressed, and in a part of the ship that definately wasn't their
quarters -- such as her office, the arboretum, and the holodeck. The night
she had woken up in the holodeck was the most disconcerting; she had come to
to find herself in the middle of a Shakespearean
drama, A Midsummer's Night Dream, and it had taken her a while to figure out
that she was awake and not dreaming. She wondered if there was any
connection.

The TL doors opened, and she walked down the corridor to SB. Dr. Evita
Vargas was completing some diagnostics, and James was... was he asleep over
there? She shook her head and walked over to Evita.

"Hello again, Commander."

Sierra smiled. "Hello, Doctor. I seem to have a slight problem, and I was
wondering if you could run a few tests on me...?"

"Certainly. Hop up on that biobed, let me just finish this real quick..."

Evita made a few last adjustments, then slid the drawer back into the wall.
Sierra got up on the biobed and lay down without waiting to be asked. Evita
walked over and activated the biobed.

"What seems to be the problem?"

Sierra explained about her sleepwalking incidents, and then mentioned her
blackout.

"What's the last thing you remember, Sierra?"

"I was on the bridge, and we were all discussing alternatives to get us out
of this web thing, and then..." She shook her head. "Next thing I know, I'm
down in WMS, wondering how I got there. I had to have done something on the
bridge!"

"Hmmm...." Evita stuck a hypo into Sierra's arm, drawing a blood sample,
and placed it in the analyzer on the side of the biobed. "That will take a
moment." She looked over the readings. "Your pregnancy seems to be
progressing well. How are you feeling? Stopped sneezing yet?"

"The sneezing comes and goes. I seem to sneeze the most in the morning, when
I first get up, then I'm usually okay the rest of the day."

"Do you want to find out the sex of the baby?"

Sierra smiled, placing her hand over her stomach. "My main concern is that
my child is healthy.... I'd have to ask Dare if he wants to know."

The analyzer beeped, and Evita looked over at it. "Well, let's take a look at
this..." She pressed a button, and the biobed wings slid back. Sierra sat
up. "Hmmm... it would appear that you are having some hormone imbalances,
which are the most likely reason behind these 'blackouts'." She tapped at
the panel. "It's your pysiology, Sierra -- Vulcans and Bajorans have some
very different needs during pregnancy, and your body is fighting it out."

Sierra looked concerned. "Am I going to be able to carry to term?"

"I don't think that will be a problem. We just have to keep an eye on you."
Evita walked over to the medical replicator and picked up the bottle that had
materialized there.

"And maybe strap me into my chair?" Sierra smiled.

Evita laughed. "Well, I don't think that will be quite necessary." She
handed Sierra the bottle. "These should help stabilize the surges."

Si looked down at the bottle, nodding to herself. ~~Dare had some Bajoran
herbs he wanted me to try, too...~~ "Thank you, Doctor. I hope so."

"You're welcome, anytime."

Sierra headed back out of SB and down to the TL. ~~This is definately going
to be un-fun, explaining myself to the Captain... "Sir, your tactial officer
is having a grand deluxe case of pms..."~~ The TL doors opened, and Sierra
stepped in, dreading the explinations ahead.

"Bridge."

She looked down at the small bottle in her hand before tucking it safely
into her pocket. ~~Not going to be fun, indeed...~~

USS Darmok, in Klingon space

We have just concluded our mission of answering a distress call by the
USS Pegasus. We found that the Pegasus had been caught in some sort of web,
and we too were soon caught. Using the Killer Bee, we were able to free
ourselves after we had developed a plan to lure the spider-like creature that
was pestering our ship away from us with a hologram.
Our mission was sucessful and both the Pegasus and our ship escaped
without injuring the unknown organism.

Well we have picked up our Beta liason officer, but as usual trouble seems to
follow us.
We have set up Backup controlls for the Bridgs stations in Main
Engineering. Then we went to a supplu Depot on a moon only to run into
trouble. our away team to the Depot has been captured. I have been
monitoring the situation in the Auxillary controll station and am preparing a
few surprises in case the ship is boarded. I have placed about mperson
certain unique weapons and items in case they are needed if I am captured.
The improvements done to the Darmok are great and appear to be set up for
the next generation of this model ship.
I greatly appreciate the model that Dare gave me it will look nice next

Ahrele sat at her desk in her ready room looking over today's reports. She
was really pleased with the efficiency reports and knew that the crew had
been working hard to keep the Darmok running at peak performance. She
chuckled to herself remembering the Admiral's suggestion that she take on a
Damage Control Officer. This ship didn't need one.

Looking over the PADD in front of her, Ahrele knew that there was something
that she needed to do. She got up from her desk and started for the door.
"Computer, identify location of Ensign Random"

>Ensign Random is currently in Main Engineering.

Ahrele walked out of the Ready Room and walked across the bridge. She
glanced at Damara and waved her hand in a beckoning motion. "Care to join
me, Number One?"

Damara got up from her seat and headed toward Ahrele. "Certainly Sir.
Tambrot, you have the bridge."

Ahrele and Damara entered the turbolift and waited until the doors closed
before either of them spoke again. "May I ask where we are going, Ahrele?"

Ahrele smiled. "Sure you may ask. There is nothing that you can't ask about
Damara, I just can't always promise that I can answer right then. But this
time we are going to take care of some long overdue business. Don't worry,
this is the fun part of the job!" Ahrele raised her head slightly. "Main
Engineering." The turbolift began its decent.

When the doors opened, Ahrele and Damara exited the turbolift and walked down
the corridor to the door marked Main Engineering. Ahrele realized that she
didn't get down here enough and promised herself to make it her duty to stop
by and check in with her officers more often. As she entered the large room,
she looked around for Ensign Random but didn't see him. Walking further in
she noticed Sperol monitoring readings at the Matter/Antimatter intermix
chamber. "Lt Sperol, can you tell me where I can
find Ensign Random?"

A momentary look of concern crossed Thomas's face until he realized that the
Captain was smiling. This must be a good thing that the captain wanted the
Ensign for. He pointed toward an access hatch at the far wall. "He's in
there, Captain. I'll get him for you." Sperol walked over to the open hatch
and called inside. "Hey Random, get out here." He stepped aside and in only
a moment a set of feet and the rear end of Ensign Random could be seen as he
backed his way out of the access hatch.

Without noticing the Captain and First officer, Random climbed out and looked
at Sperol. "What is it Lieutenant? I'm almost done in there. Do you need
me to do something else?"

Sperol shook his head and then tilted it toward the two commanding officers
standing a few feet away. Random followed Thomas's gaze and slightly jumped
when he saw Captain Ahrele standing there smiling at him. Ahrele walked over
noticing that the young Ensign had brought himself to Attention. Thomas
looked at Ahrele and smiled. "Ensign Random, Sir."

Ahrele nodded her head. "Thank you, Lieutenant. You are welcome to stay and
watch."

Sperol found it difficult to contain his enthusiasm. "Thank you, Sir. I
appreciate that."

Ahrele turned and looked at the Ensign standing before her. She glanced at
Damara standing beside her and winked. "At ease Ensign, before you break
something! In recognition for your hard work and your ability to be just
where ever the crew of the Darmok needs you to be, I hereby promote you to
the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade, with all the rights and privileges that
go with it." Ahrele reached into her pocket and pulled out a pip. She
stepped forward and pinned the pip to the officer's collar.
"Congratulations, LT." Ahrele extended her hand to the young officer.

Random reached out his hand and shook the Captain's hand. He then shook
Damara's as well. "Thank you, Captain. I'll try my best to never let you
down."

"I know you will, Lt. Carry on." Ahrele and Damara turned to leave
Engineering. As they reached the door, Ahrele glanced back and saw Thomas
beaming with pride as he too congratulated the young officer.

Ahrele and Damara stepped into the corridor and the door to Engineering
closed behind them. Damara looked at Ahrele and laughed. "I don't know who
looked the most pleased by that Ahrele, Sperol or Random."

Ahrele grinned back as the officers entered the turbolift. "I think you're
right, Damara. Thomas looked so proud, I thought he was going to burst. But
then, he should be proud. I seriously doubt that Random would have come this
far without Thomas's efforts." She paused for a moment then spoke again,
this time to the computer. "Bridge."

Lieutenant (Junior Grade) Tambrot tr'Aimne
Acting Helm/Operations Officer
USS Darmok

I started out this mission by getting my physical. The previous one that
Ltjg Evita had schedualed, I was unable to make. So, she set up another one,
just before the mission. Evita got through most of the tests, before she was
called to beam down to the supply depot. So, she told me that it would be
reschedualed..... again. I'm begging to think I'll never get it. Oh well.
Not like I was looking forward to it anyway.

I then went back to the bridge and took my post as acting Helm/Ops officer.
Everything was going pretty well, until we recieved a signal from the
Captain's comm. badge. The comm. link was open, but she never said anything.
After a few minutes, we did recieve a call on the comm badge, but it was not
the Captain. It was a man who refused to indetify himself. He demanded that
the Commander turn the Darmok over to him in exchange for the lives of the
away team, giving her 20 minutes to decide.

Some scans were performed on the moon and we were able to locate the away
team. But, there was a shield of some type in place, and we were unable to
beam them up. Ltjg Lanel then suggested that we should send a rescue party.
The Commander agreed. The plan was for the rescue team to take a shuttle to
the surface and attempt a rescue from there. This rescue team consists of
LCdrSierra, Ltjg Lanel, and myself. The Commander must have payed attention
to my biography and saw that I had some security
experience, as science officers are not normally sent on rescue missions.

Computer begin recording duty log

Down in engineering today I decided that we should fix up plently of our
subsystems and their binary components amongst the other systems. In plain
English we are transfering the various emergency controls we have down in
engineering to one central station, thus freeing up valuable space and
resources. The engineering staff was successfully able to transfer most of
the systems they are now in their final testing. This new station will
provide all emergency bridge controls in the event that the bridge
can not be accesed or its systems are down.

And if that wasn't enough to fill your day with excitement, on an away
mission Captain Johannson was captured by some deranged maniac. She always
seems to find her way into trouble. Of course this maniac wanted us to
surrender our ship and we didn't think so.

Commander Damara dispatched a rescue mission to retrieve her. On this
mission was Lieutenant Commander Rhyderr, which means there was no one at
Tactical so the good Commander had me take Tactical. ::grin::

The capture of Captain Johannson demanded that we surrender immediately so we
needed time to stall. I remembered an old trick I was learned back when I
was on a Telarian frieghter which came under attack. I got the Darmok to
start and shake it self violently, not enough to cause it to rip it self
apart, but fairly close. The capture graciously allowed us some extra time
to fix it, exactely the delay we needed.

After picking up our new Beta Quadrant Liaison Officer at Qo'noS, the Darmok
headed to the supply depot that we have been assigned to use to look over
available inventory for future use. I beamed down to the depot with FsLt
Amber Trent, Lt Sperol, Lt K'Vada, and Ltjg Evita to discover that the depot
had been taken over by the Maquis. I attempted to contact the Darmok to warn
them, but was knocked unconscious by the leader down here. Upon awakening, I
found that I had been moved to the office and that
this man was in contact with Damara. I attempted to yell a warning to
Damara but I think I only succeeded in angering the man.

I can sense the presence of my crew members still here on the moon so I know
that they are still alive, though the headache from the blow is making it
impossible to concentrate enough to pick up their thoughts. I can only hope
that they are using any possible opportunity to escape to their advantage.

a doctor. I am writing this in hopes that it will be of some help to our
medical team if I don't make it.

FstLtKVada was hit by phaser fire, but seems to be fine. The Phaser was on
stun, fortunately. His Klingon physiology is an asset to him in times of
battle.

FstLtAmber Trent & Lieutenant Sperol seem to be in fine condition,
considering. I am concerned about the gas that we have all inhaled. I hope
that it does not have any adverse effects on the four of us in the airduct.

I would be using Dexalin to counteract any effects of the gas. If I had some.
The gas was not toxic enough to kill us...or we would be dead, I am sure. So
I am convinced it was a knock out gas. We inhaled enough of it to make us
slightly disoriented. Dexalin would help clear our minds & is given for
oxygen deprivation.

:::looks up & sees everyone starting to crawl again through the airduct:::::

I will be adding to this Duty log as I have the opportunity.

Well I can't make a duty or personal log since I can't reach a computer so I
guess I just will have to do it in my head and remember to copy it down
later.

We were finally able to rescue Captain Johannson from the vile clutches of
the Maquis. These rogues first had us evacuate the crew, but a few of us
stayed. In fact we had some of the engineering staff still left in
engineering but shielded from their sensors. Since we recently installed the
new emergency systems in engineering we transfered bridge control to those
stations. The Maquis beamed onboard and I was ready for a fight, but thanks
to the quick thinking of Lieutenant Rogers he gased the bridge
knocking everyone unconscious.

During this time in my current state I could read the thoughts of others. I
picked up Captain Johannson's thoughts and she wanted to promote me. If I
interepeted that wrong then boy am I gonna get it.

I wish Katerina could have been there, she would have been so proud, although
she would probably be in this odd state of mind like myself. Well at least I
would have some one to talk to, it is so lonely here. I can't really call it
a state of unconsciousness though because I can still think clearly. I don't
know what this is.

It has been so long since I last saw Katerina. It pains me to not see her, I
feel as if a part of me is missing somehow. I don't know what is happening
between us I just can not put two and two together. Space can be a cold

SD9702.21

Sierra sat down at her office desk, pulling up her client record and the SF
personnel record for Captain Ahrele Johannson. If Dare had ordered them to
have a counseling session, so be it, but she couldn't say she was anxious for
it. ~~Practically had to hit her over the head last time to get her in
here...~~

She read the record closely, trying to figure her Captain out. Was it just a
bad case of PMS? No, of course not... she had seen the look in Ahrele's eyes
on the bridge. There was something more there. One item in particular jumped
out at her.

SD 9606.28 Received Bronze Star for Meritorious Conduct in the face
of danger
and the return of the notorious Maquis captain Joseph Becker

Maquis.... there was more here than met the eye, obviously. Nobody reacted as
irrationally as Ahrele had, without just cause. She read over the rest of the
record carefully, then scanned it again in case she'd missed something.
Putting down the PADD, she settled back against her chair, crossing her hands
across her swelling stomach.

The Lothlorien..... she reached over to her workstation, remembering that
Ahrele and Damara had served together before, under Tnagra's guidance. She
tapped up Commander Damara Seven's record, nodding slightly to herself as she
noted the same commendation on the XO's record. ~~So this was something that
involved at least a couple people on that ship... but there's more, I can
feel it...~~

She rubbed her fingers against her forehead, thinking. From her past
experience with Ahrele in counseling sessions ~~session, singular~~ she
reminded herself, she doubted she'd get much out of her. And she also doubted
that Damara would oblige, if asked. She had a friend who had been on the Loth
back then, but she was in security... would she be able to talk about it, if
she knew? And then of course there was always..... she knew who she could
ask.

She swiveled her chair around and began composing a subspace transmission.

On the better side Checov informed me in sickbay that we may be having a

I hope things work out for her.

Commander Damara Seven
Executive Officer
USS Darmok
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Maquis Madness - The End?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Damara sat back in the command chair on the bridge. All around her the crew
was busy, yet there was a somber undertone to their activity. Damara could
see the questions on their faces. What had happened to the Captain? Why had
she ordered the Maquis ship destroyed when they were obviously helpless? Why
did she stand by and do nothing when the Maquis ship's warp core went
critical? Now that the Captain had been relieved of duty, what was going to
happen to the mission, to the ship, to them?

Damara wanted to answer their questions. She wanted to put their minds at
ease and tell them that everything would be fine. But could she honestly say
that? She shook her head. No, she couldn't. So she stayed silent and
watched the crew try to bring the ship back to some semblance of normality.
She reached over and pushed the button on her console.

Computer> "Recording...."

"Commander's log, Supplemental.

The rescue team which was sent to the supply depot was successful. They were
able to retrieve everyone except the Captain. At the time the rescue team was
there, we had been fooled by the Maquis into believing that the Captain was
dead. We discovered later, however, that she was not dead but had been taken
aboard the Maquis ship.

Once again the Maquis leader, West, negotiated the release of the Captain in
exchange for the Darmok. I pretended to agree to the exchange and told him
to beam over to the bridge. Once I verified that the Captain was indeed
still alive, I would give him the command codes. After a brief hesitation,
West did beam over and I signalled Yular to spring the trap we had set. His
engineers created a dampening field on the bridge so that phasers were
useless and released a gas which knocked us all unconscious.

Later, when I woke up, West had been taken into custody and escorted to the
brig. The Captain then informed the Maquis that their plan had failed and to
surrender their ship. They immediately attacked us and we returned fire. At
one point, the Darmok lost power and the shields went down momentarily. But
it was long enough for the Maquis to beam West back to their ship.

The Captain decided to trick the Maquis once again. Using the Reconn Suite's
protocols, a false image of the Darmok was projected over the top of one of
our shuttles. At the same time, the real Darmok moved quickly behind the
moon. She then ordered Trax to create a warp core breach on the shuttle,
giving the appearance that the Darmok had exploded. It would hopefully take
the Maquis awhile before they would realize there was not enough debris there
to account for a ship of our size.

The trick worked. I expected the Captain to then order the Darmok to use the
opportunity to get away, but instead, while the Maquis ship was investigating
the debris, she ordered the Darmok to come up behind them and fire. This
crippled the Maquis ship and Captain Ahrele ordered its destruction. At this
point, LCdr Sierra refused to fire on the helpless vessel. I stepped in as
well, reminding the Captain of Starfleet regulations which require that a
crippled vessel be given the option to surrender.

However, the Captain seemed intent on destroying the ship and attempted to
fire at them herself. By this time, the Reconn Suite had locked out the
tactical controls on the bridge and prevented her from firing. But the
Maquis ship had been badly damaged already and we discovered their warp core
was going critical. Their ship exploded and, although escape pods were
launched, we have been unable to find any survivors. Doctor Ryder then
officially relieved the Captain of duty due to her erratic behavior.
I concurred with his decision and took over temporary command of the
Darmok.

The Captain was taken to Sickbay and I have been receiving reports from all
departments. Engineering is currently coordinating the repairs for the
Darmok, although I was saddened to learn that our second officer and Chief
Engineer, Jonathan Yular, was badly injured during the battle. He is
currently lying unconscious in Sickbay. I also understand another one of our
engineers, Lt1Rog was injured as well.

We have retrieved almost all of our crew who had evacuated to the supply
depot, and also found K'mpec and the other depot employees. They had been
locked in one of the storage bays but were otherwise unharmed. It is also my
sad duty to record the death of one of our officers, Ensign James. He was
killed in the line of duty sometime during the battle.

CTAC Report

SD9702.21

Lt.Cdr Rhydarr Sierra
Chief Tactical Officer
USS Darmok

While making our final stop at a supply depot, we fuond the base to be
occupied with Maquis, who were in wait for us.

After giving the impression that they had killed our captain, Commander
Damara Seven managed to pursuade them that we were going to listen to their
demands, and turn the Darmok over to them, and called for all hands to
abandon ship.

Those of us who were in Engineering wokring on the new secondary Tactical
controls were shielded, and undetected when the Maquis prepared to beam over.

After their beamin, the bridge was flooded with knockout gas, allowing the
crew to regain possession of the ship. We pursued the Maquis ship, and as
bridge TAC officer, I fired precise shots designed to cripple their ship
without wasting our soon-to-be-unreplenishable ammunition.

We used Reconn protocols to project an image of the Darmok over one of our
own shuttles, then Reconn sent the shuttle's core critical, making it look as
if the Darmok had been the one to blow up.

Captain Johannson, it turned out, was not dead, and she had been returned to
the Darmok. She had suffered a trauma to the head.

She commanded me to finish off the vessel, but under Starfleet terms for
battle and surrender, I refused. When I refused, she reached to fire the
weapons herself.

As I put my hands up to grab at hers, the Tactical console went down,
rerouted by Reconn, who had been unable to raise a response from the bridge.

CMO Dr. Darryl Rhydarr and XO Commander Damara relieved our Captain of duty
due to irrational actions.

SD9702.21
Dear Captain Johannson,

I contacted you before about counselling records. I find myself once again in
the position of needing your help again, if possible.

The Lothlorien engaged the Maquis last summer, as you know. Both you and your
sister, Ahrele, were stationed aboard the Loth at that time.

This may sound like an odd question, however, is there anything you could
tell me regarding the circumstances of that incident? In particular, did it
have any lasting effects on Ahrele? I have the feeling that if I asked her
myself, I would not get the answer I need to properly decipher her current
actions.

Your prompt reply would be appreciated! Thank you!

Respectfully yours,

We are, as you are already very aware of, heading further into the Beta
Quadrant, and further away from home.

As Counselor, it is of course an important part of my job to keep a guage on
crew morale and mentality.

In an effort to find ways to keep crew morale up, I would like to propose
having a crew newsletter. We could include a gossip column, an advice column,
notes from the Captain and/or XO, ship notes, literary efforts, etc.

I would like to propose this on a monthly basis, or perhaps a 3-week cycle.

Please let me know your feelings on this.

<<Some nights later...>>

I had another dream.

From what I remember, it was something like this:

I was in a room. Sitting in a chair. It was very dark, except there was a
very bright light shining almost right in my eyes. There was a table in front
of me.

I could hear footsteps behind me. They were pacing, I think.

A voice then said, "So you're absolutely committed to your... explanation?"
I said, "Yes. I have no reason to lie."
Voice: We're not saying you're lying, but... You understand, your story is
very hard to believe. Even impossible.
Me: I understand that. I'd be skeptical too.
Voice: So you can see our problem.
Me: I'm telling you, it's the truth. If I were inventing such a thing, why
would I make up such a preposterous story??
Voice: Mr. Sperol, we have no ideas what your motives would be. Frankly, we
don't care.
Me: Look, am I who I say I am?
Voice: As far as we can tell.
Me: Did I pass your psychological tests?
Voice: ::grows angry:: Look, Mr. Sperol - if that's who you really are - I'm
asking the questions here. But... our time is done. For now.

Then something was pressed at the base of my skull. Then... nothing.

I can't figure out what that has to do with my previous dreams. I'm sure
there's a connection, however..."

<<Some nights later...>>

::Sperol is sleeping. He falls into a dream.::

~~Where am I?~~

::He can see some light, so he is not in the infinite blackness that had
reoccurred in his recent dreams. Sperol stands up, and he recognizes the
scene.::

~~Marathon. This is my Marathon holodeck program.~~

<<In case you've forgotten, that program concerns me shooting aliens to
prevent them from taking over a ship.>>

::Sperol glances around, looking for a weapon. None is around.::

~~Should I let the dream continue on its course, or should I try to wake
up?~~

::He opens a door and walks through.::

::Sometime later, Sperol gets tired of searching around for something.::

~~What kind of dream is this?!?~~

Computer, end program.

::To his immense surprise, the holodeck is revealed.::

~~What?!?!?~~

Computer, what time is it?
Computer> <<sometime in the middle of the night shift>>

~~I should be asleep. Am I asleep now?~~

::Sperol pinches himself, causing himself some pain.::

Computer... am I awake?
Computer> Yes.

::He realizes what a stupid question it was to ask, whether he was dreaming
or not.::

~~My dreams aren't this realistic, are they? Well, recently they have been.~~

::He decides to make his way to Engineering.::

::LTj Random is working the late shift in Main Engineering.::

::Sperol enters Engineering.::

Sperol: Hi, Random!
Random: Hello, Sperol. What are you doing here?
Sperol: I don't know. I think I must've sleepwalked.
Random: But you're still asleep!
Sperol: What?

::Sperol wakes up in his quarters.::

::The real Random continues to monitor power levels in Engineering, unawares
that Sperol's dream involved him.::

dream Engineering, that is. Where I saw Random. The dream... yeah, you know.

What does it mean?

Does it have to do with my previous dreams?

Coming back from our hostage situation, the rest of the away team and I
reboarded the Darmok, where we found that the Maquis were trying to capture
the ship. Apparently, the threat had been mostly neutralized when we go
there. Anyway, we went after the Maquis ship.

It was then that I witnessed a thing that I have only seen in movies. Our
captain... she... I don't know the word, maybe "flipped?" She tried to
destroy the Maquis ship without any questions. From what I saw, and from the
movies I've seen dealing with this ("Death Wish" among others), I figured she
must've had a personal vendetta against the Maquis somehow. I don't know what
to think.

Other than that... I have recovered from the gas down on the supply depot.
When I was unconscious, though, I dreamt of... Well, more on that later.

Computer, close duty log, open personal log,
Computer> Begin when ready.

I've been dreaming.

The latest one was short. Very short.

I saw a ray of light, like a laser beam. Cutting through the darkness.
Somewhere, I don't know where. Somewhere dark. Shadowy.

At one point, the laser beam just stopped, and then started again. As if
someone had cut out a piece of the beam. I walked over to the end and tried
to see what had happened.

Then the dream ended.

But something more disturbing has happened.

I was casually conversing with Chief Yular when suddenly, I received an image
in my mind. It was much like those of the dreams. I don't know what the image
was, but it conveyed a sense of death. The death of Yular.

I screamed out some incoherent words, then I ran.

I don't know what to do. I had thought that these dreams I've been having
were the product of stress, nothing more. Or something rational at least! But
now... now this incident with Jonathan... I've been avoiding him since. I
wouldn't know how to explain myself to him.

I've been growing more concerned about these dreams, obviously. I've debated
with myself on whether I should visit our counselor. Or maybe just the
Emergency Counseling Hologram? <<J/K>> For some reason, I doubt that a
session would help anything. I should probably try anyway. Maybe I'm still
avoiding LCdr Sierra unconsciously, and that's why I don't want to go.

But I have to go. These dreams demand it.

LtEvita: Computer....duty log, Dr. Evita Vargas

Stardate 9702.22

We were busy with the injured & ill from the moment we set foot back on the
Darmok. First Lieutenant Trax, Tambrot, Sperol, Amber Trent & I, arrived on
the Darmok, barely escaping the Supply Depot.

My report is as follows:

Diagnosis of Dr. D Rydarr
I found Dr. Rydarr unconscious & with a broken nose.I administered 10 ccs of
cordrazine & used a cortical stimulator to resuscitate. For his broken nose I
gave him 5 ccs of Metoraphan to generate healing of his broken nose. He was
up & rendering aide to others almost immediately.

Diagnosis of LtjgChecov:
Checov came to sickbay complaining of nausea. Dr. Rydarr administered 15 ccs
of anolyhol & I accompanied Checov to her quarters to rest.

The anolyhol will in no way effect the baby she is carrying. I have advised
Checov to make an appointment with Dr. Rydarr or myself for a recheck within
two weeks.

Diagnosis of LtCdrYular:
Yular is currently being treated for a concussion & burns on his chest. We
treated his burns with a Dermal Regenerator & gave him Metoraphan to help
reduce swelling in the area of the concussion. The concussion will heal
itself, all it needs is time. He is currently in sickbay & we are monitoring
him carefully.

Diagnosis of Lt1Rog:
Rogers is suffering from third degree burns on his chest, face & hands. We
used the dermal regenerator to promote healing of the burns. I administered
10 ccs of Dexalin for internal oxygen deprivation. We are giving him
Adrenaline for pain. Rog's eyes would be burned beyond repair had it not been
for his inner eyelids that protected his eyes & eyesight. He is temporarily
blind but will regain his eyesight within time, at least in one eye. The
other eye, is questionable, we are not sure of the outcome &
if he will retain his vision in that eye. He is currently in sickbay & we
will continue to treat him for his injuries.

Diagnosis of CaptAhrele:
CaptAhrele was injured & we have determined that she has a subdural hematoma
& medium grade neural damage. Dr. Rydarr confined her to four days rest in
her quarters & he accompanied her to her quarters with Nurse Ratchett. I
joined her later & helped her into her pajamas & left her after she fell
asleep. We have been monitoring her periodically & she is in fair condition.

SupplementaI To CaptAherele Diagnosis:
I was contacted by CaptAhrele today & went to her quarters to treat her for a
headache & nausea. I gave her 15 ccs of Anolyhol for the nausea, the same
drug that we gave Checov. I also administered 5 ccs of Melorazine for the
headache & helped her back to bed. We will continue to monitor her condition.

Stardate:9703.01

During our last mission I spent most of the time in sickbay monitoring the
Captains vitals & progress. I followed Dr. Rydarr's instructions carefully &
kept a vigilant watch on our Captain all last night.

Diagnosis of Captain Ahrele:

Captain Ahrele suffered from a subdural hematoma & the artery in her brain
started to bleed again. We repaired the artery & was able to stop the
bleeding. Dr. Rydarr performed the treatment & I assisted.

Dr.Rydarr had me apply a special herb to her wound every four hours. This
herb has healing & medicinal qualities that have improved her injury & helped
with the pain.

I administered a tri-ox compound for replenishing the oxygen in her
bloodstream. Then we hooked her up to the physiostimulator to elevate
metabolic functions. Her white blood cell count was elevated to fight off
infection by use of the plasma Infusion unit. I monitored all vital signs &
neural activity, adjusting levels on the plasma unit & life support system.

I am concerned over her apparent loss of memory. We will know more about her
condition in time & hopefully she will regain her memory as her wounds heal.

End Of Report Of Captain Ahrele

Diagnosis of LtYular:
Lieutenant Yular reported to sickbay with complaints of a headache. I
examined him with my medical tricorder & am happy to report that his
condition is not serious. The headache was caused by his healing concussion.
I told him it was normal to have a few headaches after such trauma to the
brain but he was to report back to sickbay if they persist or get worse in
intensity. He has no dizziness & is not disoriented. I gave him 10 cc's of
Metoraphan for the pain & asked him to return to sickbay for a
recheck within the week.

Re: Darmok Incident in the Beta Quadrant

Admiral Mstrad,

On SD9702.21, the USS Darmok encountered and engaged the Maquis in Sector 421
of the Beta Quadrant. I have read Cdr Damara's report of the incident and I
can at this time offer no further information concerning the events or my
behavior. The injuries I received from the Maquis officer known as Robert
West led to me suffering a Cerebral hemorrhage resulting in memory loss.

My injuries have healed to the extent that my Chief Medical Officer has said
that I can return to duty. I have agreed to meet with the ship's counselor
to discuss the events of that night and to determine if my actions were
indeed caused by some predisposition towards obsessive behavior concerning
the Maquis or if my actions were due to my head injury. I have instructed
her to forward her determination to your office. In the meantime, I will
continue my duties as the commanding officer aboard the ship
awaiting confirmation from you that the Darmok should continue on with its
mission as planned.

Please let me know if there is any further information that you need from me
in regard to this issue.

Respectfully,
Captain Ahrele Johannson

+tap+ "LCdr Rydarr Sierra."

Sierra turned around at her desk, activating the desk monitor. That sounded
like the Captain, if she wasn't mistaken, and even if she had not yet been
allowed to return to duty, she still was the Captain. One did not ignore the
Captain's requests.

"Yes, Captain, can I help you, sir?"

Ahrele paused for only a moment before responding. "I hope so Counselor, I'd
like to make an appointment with you to talk."

Sierra managed not to look surprised at the unexpected request. "Well,
Captain, my afternoon is free of appointments, if you wanted to come down
now, that would be just fine."

Ahrele nodded, looking somehow disappointed. "On my way, Counselor. Ahrele
out." The screen went blank.

Sierra leaned back in her chair, smiling tightly to herself. Good, she was
finally ready to talk. That was half the battle already. Dare had already
spoken with her about Ahrele's collapse, and its afteraffects. It was not a
pleasant thing to lose a chunk of your memory.... but to also find out that
you were responsible for the deaths of 185 people.... Ahrele would be
struggling with this one for a while.

She picked up her PADD and looked over the list of people who were due for
new evals or re-evals. Ahrele might not like the sessions, but she had at
least come in for hers. Sierra was sick of feeling like she was pulling teeth
to get people to come in for their mandatory evals.... she was going to start
declaring people UFD uhtil they came willingly.

First, there was Trax, who was way overdue, ever since that alternate
universe incident. Commander Damara, of course, who was very willing, but as
XO had had her hands full these past few weeks. K'NuChi and Tambrot, a pair
of new arrivals to the Darmok, and of course, Ms. Amber Trent, who, if she
was going to be leading them into unknown territory, had better get her butt
down to her office for the eval. She didn't like having to do what she had
had to do with Ahrele -- go to the Captain and demand that
they met for their session. ~~We're Starfleet officers, after all... an eval
is nothing compared to the dangers we face ever day.~~

She felt another kick in her abdomen, and smiling, she put her hands across
her belly. She also didn't want to stress herself out any more than
necessary; after all the problems she had had in the initial two months of
her pregnancy, she was determined to have a smooth second half. She had to
remember to ask Dare if he wanted to find out the sex of the baby. They would
need to start thinking about names.

She put her PADD back on her desk, and pulled up Ahrele's file again, to
review it before the Captain arrived.

First Lieutenant Katerina Janar, CSCI, RSO
SD 9703.01 -- Duty Log

"Responsibilty"

:: The first thing Janar sees when she beams back on the Darmok is her gloved
fist in front of her. She pushes the painful thought aside and nods tensely
to the other officers as she goes about her duty.

Janar runs up the two small steps to the TR door and heads straight to the
Science Labs. Once in the Lab she complies all the data her Away Team
collected and begins her experiments. She barks out a few orders to Ensign
Dugan and rushes to another console to access her Science Archives for more
information.

The computer beeps and she begins reading the analysis of the planets'
composition: minerals, gasses, rock structural formations, and the list
continues . . . Her fingers are trembling as she taps out more commands.

Running back to her main console she orders Dugan to exact a list of species
that are able to live in this type of environment, mainly the cave she and
Amber Trent explored. Then to cross reference it with all known races in
this sector and system. ::

Sir, I have a composition on the cave.

::shuttering:: Good, put it through to my office.

:: She barely manages to get in there before she collapses on her knees in
front of her desk. :: Computer, seal this room for sound!

{S Beep}

:: Head in her hands she begins wailing as her tears flow unchecked. From
the moment the order came to return without Lieutenant Sperol, she held in
her emotions and now they finally came bursting forth.

She rocks back and forth slowly crying . . . feeling a loss. She sits up
trying to control herself, but only coughs and begins crying again. She
crawls over to her desk and pulls herself up and leans on it. She clasps her
hands in front of her like she used to do when she was a child and cries out
. ::

By the gods!! The gods, let him be alive . . . alive!

::pounding her fists:: I was in charge!! Why?? Oh, why?? It is all my
fault! Oh gods! Sperol I am so sorry . . . so sorry . . . Please let him
live! NOOOO!! Oh no . . . no.

:: Many moments pass before she begins to calm herself. She lifts her teary
face and sees her glowing monitor blinking silently with the information
Ensign Dugan forwarded there.

Heaving herself to a stand she wipes her face with the back of her sleeve and
walks behind her desk. ::

Computer, return the room to normal standard security.

{S Beep}

:: She sits and attacks the information with renewed vigor determined to
bring her friend back. ::

First Lt. Katerina Janar, CSCI, RSO
SD 9702.06 -- Personal Log

::Katerina lays in her bed thinking about what could be happening to Lt.
Sperol right now. Horrible thoughts swim through her mind and she squeezes
her eyes shut to keep them out.

She rolls over hoping to get comfortable. A few moments later she flips back
over jamming her ungloved hand into the pillow. She untwists her short gown
and mumbles to herself. She closes her eyes again and slowly goes over the
events of the mission in her mind. ::

This isn't going to work!

:: Sighing she throws her bare legs over the side of the bed and walks over
to her desk. ::

Computer, access file, Wedding Plans. Put it up in my quarters.

File accessed.

:: She begins looking over the wedding plans she has made so far hoping it
will take her mind off of Engineerings mission officer. As she begins
entering the guest list she comes to the name Thomas Sperol. She shakes her
head sadly, then closes the file abruptly.

Sitting in the darkness she stares out wordlessly at the passing stars. The
words "my fault" echoing through her mind . . . ::

THE CAPTAIN AND THE COUNSELOR, ROUND 2

Ahrele sits at her desk in her quarters, staring a moment after the screen
after Sierra signed off. ~~Well I might as well get this over with.~~

Sierra gets up and walks over to her window, looks at her reflection in the
glass a while, smoothes hands over belly. ~Amazing... life....I need to talk
to Dare tonight~~

Ahrele gets up and heads for the door, exits quarters and walks down the
corridor to the TL. "Deck 5." She exits the TL and heads for the counselor's
office, reaches the door and stands outside, wanting to back out.

Sierra wonders what's taking Ahrele so long. ~~She said she'd be right down~~

Ahrele sighs, reaches up and rings the doorchime. {S doorbell

Sierra turns around at the sound. "Enter!" {S door}

Ahrele walks into the office.

"Captain. Good afternoon." Sierra smiles.

Ahrele nods to Sierra, tries to smile back. "Counselor, hello."

Sierra motions to furniture. "Have a seat. Can I get you anything?"

Ahrele shakes her head. "No, thank you." She walks over to the couch and
sits down.

Sierra walks over to replicator. "One Japan Sencha, hot." She wishes she
could have some caffeine as she takes the cup and walks over to seat close to
Ahrele and sits. "So... what can I do for you today?"

Ahrele watches the counselor. "I was hoping that we could talk... I seem to
have a lot on my mind these days."

Sierra sips at her tea. "I would imagine."

Ahrele crosses her legs. "I suppose you know that I have suffered some memory
loss."

Sierra watches Ahrele patiently. "Yes, I have been informed of that."

Ahrele nods. "It is difficult to think that all the events that I've been
told happened, really did happen."

Sierra reaches over and picks up PADD off desk. "I wish they hadn't, myself,
but they did." She glances down at the PADD.

"From what I've been told, I wish that as well."

"What was your reaction?"

"Shock I suppose... How would you feel if you woke up and were told that you
had lost days of your life and that you had .... uh..."

Sierra arches an eyebrow.

"Well....I mean....that you had been responsible for the deaths of so many
people."

"I think I know what I would feel. But we are dealing with you right now."
Sierra's voice is calm and patient.

"Had it been a battle with no possible alternative, then I could accept it...
but I'm told that isn't what happened."

"No.... we had disabled them. And their warp core was going critical."

Ahrele nods. "Damara has told me that I told her I believed it to be a ploy
on their part...or at least I told her that."

"What do you really believe?"

"I don't know what to think!"

Sierra sighs to herself. "Last session we had, you told me that you had had
previous run-ins with the Maquis."

Ahrele nods.

"Particularly somebody named Joseph Becker. Now, how are you affiliated with
the Maquis, Captain?" She eyes Ahrele steadily. "The mind is a devious
thing... we can get ourselves to believe whatever we want it to."

Ahrele uncrosses her legs and crosses them again to the other side.

"If you wanted to believe it was a ploy, then what former experiences would
lead you to say that?"

"I've had many run-ins with the Maquis, Counselor."

"Well, why don't you tell me a bit about your experiences?" Sierra leans back
on her chair, hands cupped around tea.

"Starting where?"

Sierra shrugs. "How about the beginning? How did you first get involved with
them?"

Ahrele takes a deep breath. "I first met the Maquis when I was at the
Academy. I was introduced to Joseph Becker by my fiancé." Ahrele watches to
see the Counselor's reaction.

Sierra arches her eyebrow again. "Was your fiancé in the Maquis?"

Ahrele pauses and then nods, looking down at her hands.

"I see. And was he in SFA also?"

"No, he was not. He was a scientist. We had both graduated for the Vulcan
Science Academy. I joined Starfleet to find my sister."

"Where was she?"

"She was missing. We didn't know at the time. Later, we found out she was in
a Cardassian prison, but by then...Kevin was dead."

"Kevin? He was your... fiancé?"

Ahrele nods again.

"I see. How did he die?"

"Well, I don't know for sure... He was out with the....Maquis when it
happened." She takes another deep breath.

Sierra watches Ahrele carefully.

"He apparently tried to leave his ship and was captured by the Cardassians.
His body was found floating in space a couple weeks later. He had been
tortured."

"Hmmm..." She makes a couple notes, as Ahrele looks at the Counselor.

"Who was in command of his ship?"

"Joseph Becker."

"I see..... and you think Becker wanted him caught by the Cardassians?"

"I carried a hatred for Becker for a long time. But..." she shakes her head,
"...no, I don't think that Joseph wanted Kevin to be caught."

"What then?"

Ahrele looks puzzled. "I think Kevin's death was his own fault. If he hadn't
left the ship, then the Cardassians wouldn't have caught him. I still don't
understand why he did that. I don't know why the Maquis were headed towards
Cardassian space, though I can guess why. Maybe Kevin had second
thoughts...."
