Ahrele was sitting in her Ready Room when the light on her comm panel lit up
and the voice of FsLt Tryst broke the silence in the room.

"Captain, there is an incoming message from Starfleet Command for you."

"I'll take it in here, Lt." Ahrele watched as the face of Admiral Nortok
filled the screen. "Greetings, Admiral."

The Admiral nodded. "Captain. I assume that FCpt Tnagra has arrived safely
on Tama?"

"Yes Sir, he has." Ahrele opened her mouth to say something else but was
quickly silenced by the Admiral.

"Ahrele, we have received your report concerning LCdr T'Kala Jahnarri. After
reviewing the sensor logs that you sent along, we have determined that the
conditions to recreate the accident don't currently exist. Permission to
remain in the vicinity of the supernova to search for your officers is
denied."

Ahrele's expression changed to a scowl as she looked at the Admiral.
"Admiral, it is imperative that we go search for her now. It is possible
that the spacial rift still remains. This may be the only chance that...."

The Admiral cut her off again. "Captain Johannson, let me make this
perfectly clear... Permission denied. Starfleet is not in a position at the
moment to sacrifice any of its ships or crews in search of a lost officer
that probably died in the explosion anyway. You are to report here to Earth
for new orders."

"To Earth, Admiral? But I ...."

"To Earth, Captain. I trust you do know how to find it? Your request for
your new First Officer has been approved. She has already received her
promotion and orders to report here to Earth. You can pick her up upon your
arrival. The Darmok will receive some upgrades to her systems while you are
here and you and your crew will be able to enjoy a little R&R on Earth before
you head out. The details of your mission will be given to you once you
arrive. All I will tell you at the moment is to prepare
your crew for an extended deep space assignment."

Ahrele continued to scowl as she listened to the Admiral's instructions.
"But Admiral, my officers...."

"Captain, I'm going to be blunt here. I am aware of your record and it
wouldn't surprise me a bit if there are other incidents that never got put
into it. If you decide to ignore the orders and go looking for those
officers, I guarantee you, you'll never sit in the Captain's chair again. Do
I make myself clear?"

"Perfectly, Sir." Ahrele held herself in check, knowing that her remarks
would do nothing to help the current situation.

"We will be awaiting your arrival, Captain. Oh, send my regards to Tnagra
before you depart, will you? Nortok out."

The admiral's image immediately disappeared leaving in its place the familiar
Starfleet insignia. Ahrele resisted the urge to punch the computer knowing
full well she didn't want to have to explain the broken monitor to
engineering or the torn knuckles to medical. She'd just have to learn to
deal with the frustrations of command.

Re: Storage Space

I have received preliminary instructions from Starfleet and hav been advised
that due to the nature of our next mission, it wil be necessary to take on
extra supplies and armanent. Due to Darmok's size, available ship storage
will have to be utilized for Starfleet equipment and supplies only. With the
exception of personal quarters, all privat property currenly being stored in
other areas of the shp will have to be removed.

Arrangements have been made for secure housing of any and all personal
property that will not fit in your quarters. This includes private vehicles
currently being stored aboard the Darmok. If the current arrangements do not
meet with your approval, then you are free to make your own arrangements, but
this must be taken care of by the time we depart from Earth on SD9701.24. I
understand the disappointment you must feel at having to leave your vehicles
behind at this time, however rest assured that they
will be kept secure until the time you are able to retrieve them. Your
cooperation in this matter is much appreciated.

Due to our upcoming inability to restock our armament, the Darmok will be
taking on additional photon and quantum torpedoes. We will have to keep
careful inventory of this existing supply. Though I hope that we will not
find occasion to use them, if we should I will expect a report from you
keeping me informed as to the current number available.

Also, please make sure that all weapons lockers are fully stocked with
working phasers. Each should be in top shape or replaced before our
departure from Earth on SD9701.24.

Due to our limited capacity for matter storage and reclamation, it is
advisable that we make arrangements to begin growing some of the food that we
will need. While on Earth, please make arrangements to pick up a variety of
fruit and vegetable plants and seeds, taking into consideration the diversity
of the ship's crew. If you have a chance, you might either check the
replicator logs for foods frequently requested or ask crew members for their
particualr favorites. (Please put me down for straka
berries and kiwi. Which, by the way, make a wonderful juice when blended
together!)

Please take careful inventory of available replacement parts for key systems
onboard and if necessary, make arrangements to pick up any additional items
needed while we are on Earth. We will be unable to have access to Federation

should be placed on those items that cannot be replicated or would use up a

Commander Damara Seven
Executive Officer
USS Darmok
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Together Again
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Damara Seven stands in front of Admiral Nortok at Starfleet Headquarters.
The Admiral gestures toward a chair.

“Please sit down, Commander.”

“Yes, sir.” Damara sits down in the chair with her back to the door.

Ahrele exits transport from the Utopia Planetia shipyards. She looks at her
chronometer. ~~Oh great...I'm late for the meeting.~~ She hurries towards
Starfleet Command Headquarters. ~~I can hear Nortok now... He probably
thinks I stopped to search for T'Kala.~~ She sees the building ahead of her
and hurries on.

The Admiral looks at Damara. “I understand you have been declared fit for
duty by the Daystrom Institute.”

“Yes, sir. I'm very anxious to find out my new post.”

He nods. “Yes, I'm sure you are. I have something special in mind for you.”

“Special, sir?”

“Yes... that is why I had to be sure you wouldn't be having any problems with
your new generator. This will be a deep space mission and you may be away for
long stretches at a time.”

“I understand, sir. May I ask which ship I've been assigned to?”

Ahrele enters the building and heads for the elevator. “12th floor.” She
exits the elevator, walks down the hall and approaches the Admiral's office.
She enters and sees the secretary. “I'm Captain Johannson, I have an
appointment with the Admiral.” The secretary nods and gestures toward the
door. Ahrele walks to the inner office door and walks in.

The Admiral smiles and stands when he sees Ahrele. “Here’s your new Captain
now.”

Ahrele sees Damara and the Admiral and smiles. She comes to attention.
“Captain Ahrele Johannson reporting as ordered, sir.”

Damara turns around, quickly stands up and smiles. “Ahrele!” She remembers
she's in an Admiral's office and stops herself from hugging Ahrele.

The Admiral nods. “At ease, Captain.”

Ahrele looks at Damara and breaks attention. She hugs her friend not caring
if the Admiral is watching or not.

The Admiral looks on, smiling at the reunion of the two friends.

Damara hugs her back. “Ahrele! What are you doing here?” She sees her
pips. “You're a Captain now?”

Ahrele nods. “Yes... I got promoted a few weeks ago, but I just assumed
command of my ship.” She laughs. “Can you believe it, Damara?”

“That's wonderful!” She looks at the Admiral. “You said she's my new
Captain?”

The Admiral nods. “That is correct.”

“And you won't believe what ship we have either....”

Damara turns back to Ahrele. “Which ship?”

Ahrele glances at the Admiral who nods at her to go ahead. Ahrele looks back
at Damara.

“You are now the Executive Officer aboard the USS Darmok.”

“The Darmok!” Damara frowns. “But that's Tnagra's ship!” She touches
Ahrele's arm. “Ahrele, what happened to Tnagra? He's not......?”

“OH NO! Tnagra is fine!”

Damara looks relieved. “Oh, good. I was worried. Then where is he?”

“He was offered the position of High Councilor of his people on Tama.”

Damara appears puzzled. “High Councilor? So he's no longer in Starfleet?”

“He accepted and resigned his commision from Starfleet.”

Damara sits down in shock. “I can't believe it. I always thought he'd be an
Admiral someday.”

Ahrele looks down for a moment. She tries hard to swallow the lump that is
forming in her throat again. She nods. “Yea...so did I. And he would have
made a great one too.”

Admiral Nortok clears his throat and Ahrele looks up. “Uh...sorry, Admiral.”

“That's quite all right. I understand. Please sit down, Captain. He
motions to a chair and Ahrele walks over to the empty seat.

“Admiral, I need to make a report about Admiral Richardson. The Darmok ran
into a bit of trouble on our way here.”

“Tell me exactly what happened.”

Damara looks at Ahrele curiously as she goes on to explain.

“The Admiral is not who he appears to be. He is a part of the Orion
Syndicate. He was wanting to take the Darmok and sell her to the highest
bidder.”

Nortok frowns and nods. I’m not surprised. We've suspected him for some
time now. That's why he didn't get the assignment to the Darmok like he
wanted. The man has become very unstable lately.”

Ahrele nods and rubs her still aching head. “He had his people on the Darmok
for a short time, but we were able to gain control. He didn't care who he
went through to get it.”

Nortok stands up and puts his hands behind his back, pacing. “This is very
serious. Do you have him in custody?”

Ahrele frowns. “Unfortunately no. The encounter took place in the Trifid
nebula and we had no means of tracking his ship when it left. I'm sorry,
sir.”

Damara notices Ahrele rubbing her head. “You were injured?”

Nortok frowns. “I see. Do you need medical attention, Captain?”

Ahrele shakes her head. “No, sir. One of my medical officers took care of
my wounds. I am fine. We did have some more severe injuries among the crew,
but all are going to be fine.”

Nortok stops pacing and sits down. “All right. I want a full report on my
desk by tomorrow. We'll try to track Richardson down.”

“Yes, sir, it will be there.”

“He must realize his career is over, he'll be a desperate man.” Nortok looks
at Ahrele seriously. “He'll blame you, you know.”

Ahrele nods. “He made it too clear that he was not at all happy with me.
Let's hope he is captured quickly.”

Nortok nods. “He can't hide forever. We'll find him.” He looks back and
forth from Damara to Ahrele. “I imagine you two would like to know the
Darmok's new mission?”

Damara looks interested. “Yes, sir!”

Ahrele looks excited. “Yes, sir!” She glances over to Damara and smiles.

The Admiral reaches over to his terminal and turns it around. Ahrele moves
her chair closer to his desk.

“This is an overview of the system near Quo'noS.”

Ahrele raises her eyebrows. “That is in the Beta Quadrant.”

Damara looks at Ahrele and then back to the Admiral.

The Admiral continues. “Exactly -- this is a largely unexplored area of
space. Starfleet has decided that it's time we found out what's out there.”

Ahrele nods. “There is very little information in the Starfleet record
banks.”

“The Darmok is currently being upgraded with the latest technology in stellar
cartography. We have also added additional scientific equipment.”

“I am honored that you have selected the Darmok for this mission.”

Nortok nods. “It is the perfect ship for first contact missions.”

“With Damara's and my background in science, we are the perfect team to lead
this mission.”

“Exactly.... your job will be to start mapping that sector of space and to
contact any civilizations that have warp capability. You will establish a
base of operations on Quo'noS. You can return there when you need to
resupply the Darmok.”

Ahrele nods. “That seems logical.” ~~I hope the Klingons are in a good
mood.~~

“When you arrive at Quo'noS, you will be picking up an additional officer.

“Really, sir? Who?”

“We have assigned the Darmok a special liaison officer. This officer has
traveled in the Beta Quadrant and knows a lot about some of the cultures
there. She will be your special advisor, Captain -- reporting directly to
you and Commander Seven.”

“Interesting. I wasn't aware that any Starfleet officer had spent time in
the Beta quadrant..... other than trips to the Klingon home world of course.”

“This particular officer is a trill and has apparently spent more than one
lifetime in that area of space. She will be of invaluable assistance to you.
Her name, by the way, is Amber Trent.”

Damara listens closely to the conversation.

The Admiral sits back. “Do either of you have any questions?”

Ahrele nods again. “I look forward to meeting her. What rank does she
hold?”

Nortok looks at his PADD. “She is a First Lieutenant.”

“I'll make sure she gets entered into the ship's manifest.”

Nortok nods. “Excellent. Your orders are to leave for Quo'noS as soon as
the Darmok is ready.”

“Sir, I want to know about my authority out there. Subspace communication
will take quite awhile at those distances.”

The Admiral looks seriously at Ahrele. “This is a deep space mission,
Captain. You will be on your own for most of the time.... You have full
authority to protect your ship and its crew. You also have full authority to
decide whether a planet is ready for First Contact under the established
Federation criteria. I will expect regular reports, of course.”

“I am prepared for this mission, sir. I will follow Starfleet regulations to
the best of my ability. You can expect regular reports.” Ahrele wonders
where her rule book is.

“I know you will, Captain. Starfleet and I have full confidence in your
abilities.” He looks at Damara. “And in yours, Commander.”

Damara smiles. “Thank you, sir.”

Ahrele stands up. The Admiral stands and holds out his hand.
“Congratulations, Ahrele.”

She shakes the Admiral's hand. Thank you , sir.”

Damara also stands up and the Admiral holds out his hand to her. She shakes
his hand.

“Dismissed.”

Ahrele nods and turns to walk out the door with Damara right behind her.
They exit the Admiral's office staying quiet until the door has closed.
Damara turns to look at Ahrele grinning from ear to ear. Ahrele grabs Damara
again and swings her around. “We have our ship, Damara!”

“Wow! The Darmok!! I would never have thought it in a million years!”

Ahrele glances over at the secretary staring at them strangely. Ahrele smiles
back at the secretary. “Carry on, Lieutenant." She takes Damara's arm.
“Come on...we have a lot to talk about.”

“Yes, we do.” Damara walks out with Ahrele.

Ahrele walks down the hallway. “We have four days before we can get back on
board. We will meet up with Lt1 Trax at that time and he will fly us back to
the ship. The Darmok won't be completely done until SD 9701.24, but the
senior officers are reporting back early so you can get to know them and we
can brief them on the mission.”

“OK... I can't wait to see the ship again..... This time officially.....”
She laughs.

Ahrele grins. “Yea...and this time everything works! But until then, how
shall we spend our four days?”

Damara looks at Ahrele. “Together, I hope!”

“Of course!”

“Any ideas where we should go? I don't really know Earth that well.”

“I don't either. I never really did any traveling while at the academy.
Ahrele looks at Damara. “I know you aren't big on swimming... So let's skip
the beaches....”

Damara laughs. “No, not really.” She remembers when she almost drowned.

Ahrele picks up on Damara's thoughts and is glad she can laugh about it now.
“How about skiing! We've never done that! That could be fun. Do you know
how to ski?”

Damara’s face brightens. “Of course! I learned how with a holodeck program,
but I've never been to a real ski resort.”

Ahrele nods. “Great!”

“Where shall we go?”

“We can pick out where we want to go and head to the transport center.
They'll beam us over. There are a lot of great resorts.”

“OK -- let's do it!”

Ahrele nods, thinking that would be fun. “Most of them are in Europe....
How about the French Alps?

“Oh, yes, the Alps..... I've heard of those. That sounds good to me.”

“We can spend the rest of the day getting our things together. We'll need
new clothes and skis and ...”

Damara nods and stops, looking seriously at Ahrele for a moment.

Ahrele stops and looks at Damara. “What is it, Damara?”

“Ahrele, I'm really glad we're together again. I couldn't have asked for a
better Captain.”

Ahrele smiles. “And I couldn't have been given a better XO.” She hugs her
again. “It's been a long time...”

Damara smiles and hugs her back. “Now, let's go have some fun!”

Ahrele realizes that she can sense her sister very stongly. “I wonder where
the Federation is? I think I"ll give Ariell a call before we leave on the
trip.”

“The Federation? Oh, that's Ariell's ship, right? Yes, good idea!”

Ahrele nods. “I haven't seen her in awhile. I should contact her before I
leave on this mission. If she is close, perhaps she can join us.” Ahrele
knows her sister is somewhere on Earth and wonders why.

“Oh, that would be great if she could go with us! It will give you two a
chance to talk before we leave for the Beta Quadrant.” Damara shakes her
head. “I still can't believe we'll be going there. This is such a great
opportunity! Just think of all the new species we'll meet....”

Ahrele smiles again. “This is going to be great! We are the perfect ones to
do this and the Darmok and its crew are incredible.”

“You'll have to tell me all about the crew. But right now, we have some
shopping to do!”

Ahrele grins. “Now that is going to take awhile! Come on...let's go.”

::Sperol is in his quarters, looking around.::

~~Where did I put that??~~

Computer, open duty log.
Computer> Begin when ready.

Well, another day, another crisis, and the Darmok's still here. Something
happened. I'm still not sure on the details. In fact, I don't know anything
except that some admiral who wasn't really came aboard and took control. We
entered a nebula, then we were ambushed, then powered down, then hand-to-hand
combatted. We came out on top, though.

After we dealt with that, we arrived at Earth. Rather, the Sol system.
::sighs:: I'm not planning on going to Earth this time.

You know, I never really saw Mars before. I mean, really looked at it. It is
a beautiful red color. "The red planet." Interestingly enough, there is an
obscure reference in my Marathon simulation to "red sands." I wonder if they
meant Mars?? That wouldn't make any sense, since it occurs quite some
distance away. Although they did say that the Jjaro were monitoring Earth...

Computer, close duty log, open personal log and transfer that last thought
about Marathon to it.
Computer> Continue when ready.

Speaking of Marathon, I'm planning on challenging someone in it. I wonder who
would like that kind of thing...

And my Trecer program! Yes, Rogers finally took a look at it and he isolated
the problem down to a certain core section. I plan to look at it as soon as
possible, before I get off the ship.

First, though, I have to find that thing.

::Sperol continues to speak while searching.::

I finally saw our new first officer, if but briefly. Commander Damara. She
doesn't look like a Borg. At least, she doesn't look like what I thought a
Borg looked like. I have to meet her sometime, though.

Ran into our captain in the hall. She was wondering something about me being
angry with her or something. I don't know what she was talking about, since I
had only met her once before that. I stoutly denied any of the allegations. I
wonder what happened? <<JK, Ahrele>>

Counselor Sierra said that I should check in with the medical staff one more
time. Another medical checkup. I'll probably try to get it before everyone
gets off the ship. I don't know about Huston or...

::Sperol's voice trails off. A fire rages in his eyes for a brief moment,
then dies.::

::quietly says:: I'll try to get an OK from them.

::Sperol bends down.::

Aha! Found it!

::He holds up an isolinear chip.::

Computer, close personal log.
Computer> Log ended.

::Sperol walks over to a console, inserts the chip, and types a few commands
in. The routine he had programmed that patched together the replicator and
transporter was deactivated and relegated to the chip. No evidence of
tampering was left.::

Well, that's that.

::He walks over to a drawer and opens it. Inside are two things: a PADD and a
roll of duct tape. He removes them and places them in a special container.::

Container, lock.
Container> Locked.

::Sperol places the container back in the drawer.::

Diamond jewels bespeckled the velvet darkness around a golden firey ball. The
System was peaceful and elequent. Many visitors had come and gone. New ones
had just arrived. In orbit around the third rock from the sun many ships lay
in orbits. Some decaying and others partially stable. Two vessels swam next
to each other and a third off in the distance. The twins were mirroring each
other and together dying.

Walking onto the empty bridge Beta watch spread out to cover the vacant
posts. Ensign Danjal Grey sat behind the conn and began minor repairs in
order to help get helm controls back on line. On his back, arms stretched
upward working on the isolinear circuts Danjal completed his work. A voice
jumped out from his combadge," Main Engineering to Helm. You should have
sufficient power to the helm."
Tapping his combadge," Thank you Engineering Conn out."
The Ensign takes his place back at the Conn and begins to try course
corrections.

Having problems aboard the Science Vessel Lt. Janar is barely able to keep
focused as her consciousness falls out from under her. Like a limp flower
Janar impacts with the cold frozen deck. Almost immediately her combadge
reads her bio reading and activates the emergency transporter beacon. Within
Seconds Janar is transported directly to Sickbay.

As Beta shift works to keep the ship intact the doors from the Captain's
Ready Room part and a noble man steps through.
"Captain on the Bridge." Some observant crewmember hails.
Walking confidently to the Command Tier of his bridge he faces the viewscreen
to visually see the results," Ensign Grey, Report."

Turning to face the Captain the young ensign relays the current situation and
the situation with the other vessels nearby. He also informs the Captain of
an emergency transport that occured just three minutes after his arrival on
the bridge.

"Thank you Ensign, "turning to face the Tactical Station," Ensign what is the
status on the Ferengi vessel?"

A young female officer works on her display console and brings the
information requested by the Captain efficiently and swiftly,"There has been
no change in the position of the Ferengi Vessel."

"Good keep an eye on thier weapons systems." Orders the Captain.

Nodding her head in acknowledgment she confidently replies," Aye, Sir. Will
watch them like a hawk."
Getting satsifactory results from the officers at post he looks around the
bright bridge and notes that it feels empty with his senior officers gone.

Nurse Eileen Poyett, the Head in Sickbay, and some other interns check over
the still unconscious Janar. The Lieutenant awakes seeing the nurse hovering
over her. Quickly Janar tries to sit up. Poyett gentlely holds her back.
"Please sir, relax. You had a bad spill."

Stubbornly," No I am ok. I need to get to the bridge," looks down to see that
she is stil holding her bag and in a swift fluid movement taps her just
warming combadge," Janar to the Bridge.

Sitting his his center chair the Captain answers her call," +JANAR+ Go ahead
Lieutenant."

" Sir, I have some valuable data for you, but I can't seem to get out of SB!"
she explains as she looks at the waiting nurse.

Turning his full attention to the com channel when he realizes that she is on
the ship.
"Lieutenant why are you back so quickly? Where are the others?"

Hearing the Captain she pauses before answering him as a wave of nuasa covers
her as she stands, " It is a long story, Sir. I'll tell you if I can get
there!" With that the Lieutenant heads out of sick bay, her maroon and blue
field coat still on as she entes the turbo lift.

Monitoring the com channels and still working at gaining more distance from
the atmosphere the helmsman informs the Captain," Sir we are being Hailed by
the Ferengi," his voice takes on a sound of disgust as he utters the word
Ferengi as if were a pile of filth in the waste management units aboard the
ship.

Looking at the viewscreen, the dark orange of a Ferengi Murader filling some
of it, Stands and pulls down sharply on his uniform tunic," Open Channel."

The nasty, sharp toothed orange scowl of the Ferengi Daimon takes full
dominion over the viewscreen. The Helmsman frowns and think that the term
daimon is right. ~~With a face like that any race would consider that piece
of Vung a demon.~~

FEDERATION SHIP...WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS TO US?, the Daimon asks. His voice
full of hatred and distrust. The word Federation was almost spit out.
THIS IS AN ACT OF WAR ON THE FERENGI ALLIANCE, FEDERATION.

Walking up to the viewscreen the Captain as diplomatically as possibly
replies,"
FERENGI VESSEL.... I DONT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT."

The entire crew can see the small billowing clouds of frozen breath each time
the Ferengi breathes.

The Turbolift doors slide open as Janar races onto the bridge. Immediately
she heads for the Science Station, glacing at the viewer as she goes. The
Captain notices her arrival yet stays focused on the Diamon.

Shivering and shaking the Daimon gets a report from an underling before he
adds," WE ARE LOSING POWER AND OUR SHIP IS NOT ABLE TO STAY IN ORBIT MUCH
LONGER. AND YOU HAVE MADE OUR SHIP LOSE ITS ENVIRONMENTAL CONTROLS!"

Turns to look at the Tactical Officer on duty, Ensign Checov," Confirm."

Scanning the Ferengi vessel the Ensign concurs," Yes they are telling the
truth in as far as Ferengi can."

Turning to the viewer again the Captain tries his hand with the Ferengi,"
DAMON... I CAN ASSURE YOU THAT WE ARE NOT CAUSING YOUR PROBLEMS. WHAT PROFIT
WOULD THERE BE IN IT FOR US? IF WE WERE DOING IT, WOULD WE NOT BE DEMANDING A
RANSOM?"

Looking puzzeled the Daimon replies," WELL THEN...IF IT IS NOT YOU, THEN WHAT
IS CAUSING THE FAILURES ON MY SHIP?"

As the Captain is conversing with the Daimon, down in Main Engineering
Lieutenant Rogers is feverishly working at getting as much power to the
Darmok's systems as possible. Tying into the aux systems to give the Darmok
enought power to maintain a stable orbit or to try and break free Rogers
increases helm control by 50% and brings what power he can up from the
Impulse engines.

On the Bridge Science Officer Janar works on her data collected from her
short sojourn to the Federation science vessel and sees her chance to report
on her findings as the door opens with the Daimon's question.
"Sir I may have the answer to that question!"

Waving to the Lieutenant to hold he continues to converse with the Daimon,"
DAIMON... PERHAPS WE MIGHT FIND SOME MUTUAL BENEFIT IN COORIDATING OUR
EFFORTS TO SOLVE OUR PROBLEMS? "

Scowling at the viewscreen the Ferengi adds," YOU MEAN WORK TOGETHER?

" DAMON... THINK ABOUT... I'LL HAIL YOU IN A MINUTE...," gives Ensign Grey
the universal cutoff gesture as the ensign cuts off the Channel.

After doing so the helmsman frustrated by the fact that he can onyl get
Darmok to hold orbit for another few hours at most turns to look at Lt.
Janar, taking note that she is quite pretty. Gently shakes his head in self
disapproval and returns to stare out into the viewscreen.

Walking over to tactical the Captain orders," ENSIGN... SCAN THE PLANET FOR
ANY EM RADIATION THAT MIGHT BE AFFECTING THE FERENGI VESSEL."

Confidently nods her head,"Aye sir."

Striding over to the Science station to see what news Janar brings.
WHAT DO YOU HAVE, JANAR?

Bringing up some readings on the displays she begins to explain," Sir, the
information I brought back with me tells us that the reason for that ships
and our failure is the energy beam we encountered!
The Science ship scanned a dampening field that is knocking outmost forms of
technology.
Scanning her data Janar quickly initiates a preprogramed differential
Anti-Magnetometer," Sir, that should control it for a while!"

"Capt, have isloated EM radiation coming from core of planet," informs Ensign
Checov.

The Captain turns to look at Checov.

Annoyed the helmsman informs the Captain of another minor but still irrtating
problem," The Ferengi are hailing us again, sir."

"MAKE THEM WAIT," orders the Captain.

WHAT FORM OF RADIATION? COULD IT BE DAMPENING THE ELECTRIC FIELDS OF THE
SHIPS' SYSTEMS

Without looking down at her display the Ensign replies," Tachyon radiation,
sir."

Looking confident and impatient Lieutenant Janar answers the Captain's
question to her, "Yes, sir."

Quickly thinking of a way to stall the impatient Ferengi Ensign Grey begins a
distraction. Adding static and messing with the Com gain to make it appear
that the comm systems are having difficulty. Ready He opens the com channel
audio only," Dar... Daimon... comm disrupted. Please.. wait as .. ixed...
thank you. Da..out."

Tnagra grimaces as he hears Grey's Comm work.

Looking at Janar and Checov," CAN WE CREATE A COUNTER-DAMPENING FIELD AROUND
THE SHIP? SOMETHING TO COUNTER-ACT THE WAVE FORMS?"

"I am going to attempt to do so," Kate adds as she zips down her field
jacket.

In conjunction with the Science Officer," We will do our best. Janar?"

"GOOD," says the Captain as he walks over to Grey. "NICELY DONE, ENSIGN."

"Thank you sir," replies the Centari Ensign.

I'M READY NOW. Looks toward the viewscreen," OPEN CHANNEL."

"Channel Open sir."

:LOOKS AT THE FEDERATION CAPTAIN:: IT IS ABOUT TIME YOU ANSWERED ME!

DAIMON.... WE'VE BEEN TRYING FOR THE PAST FEW MINUTES
BUT OUR EQUIPMENT HAS BEEN FAILING

HOWEVER.....," Waiting for a dramatic second.

"HOWEVER WHAT? SPEAK UP.... I AM WAITING!" Spits out the Ferengi eyes wildly
darting to the faces of the Darmok Beta shift bridge crew.

WE BELIEVE WE HAVE DETERMINED THE CAUSE OF THE POWER LOSSES WE HAVE DETECTED
A PATTERN OF EM RADITATION EMITTING FROM THE PLANET THE COMBINATION OF THAT
RADITATION IS DISRUPTING ELECTRON FLOW IN OUR EQUIPMENT.

F> WHAT IS CAUSING THIS THIS RADIATION?

THAT, WE DO NOT KNOW... IT'S SOURCE IS THE PLANET
WE ARE WORKING ON A METHOD OF COUNTERACTING THE RADITATION . WE'LL HAIL YOU
ONCE WE HAVE IT FIGURED OUT ENSIGN... CUT CHANNEL."

While the Captain was conversing with the Daimon, Ensign Checov, Lt. Rogers
under command of Lieutenant Janar begin to establish a solatron wave emitter
to destablize the damping field that the vessels were held in. Within minutes
the crew design the emitters and have the equipment ready to try out.

Turning to Tactical the Captain iquires about the status of the Ferengi
Vessel," TACTICAL..... HOW LONG DOES THE FERENGI SHIP HAVE BEFORE IT ENTERS
THE ATMOSHPERE?"

Not hearing a reply from the busy Ensign the helmsman speaks up," Sir they
have 30 minutes 56 seconds before they hit the outer atmosphere."

LOOKS BACK AT HELM," HOW LONG DO WE HAVE?"

Keeping his full attention on the Helm controls," Currently we can maintain
this orbit for a few more hours. No more and no less exact than that Sir."

While the crew is busy trying to establish the energy field the automatic
computer warning sounds in conjunction with the Red Alert klaxons.
>Warning, Environmental Systems shutdown. Activating redundant Enviromental
systems.<
>Redunant Systems offline. Total Systems failure in 20 minutes.<

The Crew looks up from their work and makes haste to complete their project.
Down in Main Engineering, Rogers works swiftly to correct the systems
shutdowns and try and bring the systems back on line.

At Helm Ensign Grey attempts to activate the bridge's isolated redundant
battery systems at no avail.

WE DID IT!! exclaims the officers assembled at the SciOps station.
One by one the affected systems come back online. Seeing the work the
helmsman readjusts the course and establishes a stable orbit far enough from
the planet's field but close enough to be within transporter range.

ENSIGN GREY... OPEN A CHANNEL TO THE FERENGI

More relaxed than before," Aye sir. Channel open."

JANAR.. PREPARE TO TRANSMIT YOUR EXACT SOLUTION. Orders the Captain as the
image of the Ferengi Daimon appears in front of him.

DAIMON... GOOD NEWS... WE HAVE A TEMPORARY SOLUTION TO OUR MUTUAL PROBLEM.

Shivering in the cold of the frosty bridge the Ferengi stutters out," WHAT IS
IT?"

WE'LL TRANSMIT IT NOW....

The Captain looks over Janar and signals her to transmit.

Holding himsalf as he shivers," AND WHAT IS THE COST OF THIS INFORMATION
GOING TO BE FOR ME?"

DAIMON... YOU WILL OWE ME A FAVOR..... I'LL LET YOU KNOW WHEN I WANT IT
REPAID. DARMOK OUT

Disgusted, as only a Ferengi would be at *giving* anything away for free," A
FAVOR?"

The Captain walks to his seat and sits as the channel is cut.

The large doors that separtate Transporter Room 3 from the cooridor slid
open like a gargantuan sideways mouth as Doctor Darryl Ryder arrived in the
TR early. The Transporter Chief on duty, Chief Petty Officer Lorena Padilla,
looked up from her work on the console and greeted the Officer. Carefully Dr.
Ryder placed his Medical Equipment down as he headed for the Transporter
Console. Stepping up he asked the Chief to run a scan on the beam in sight.
Professionally," The coordinates are stable and transporter lock can be
achieved. lifesupport is still functional but ambient temperture is ten
degrees below zero, Sir."

Overlooking the readings Dr. Ryder moves to an adjacent station to get a full
shipwide scan. "Confirmed. It is a bit nippy over there. Thank you Chief,"
announces Darryl in his slightly exotic accent.
Stepping down to the main deck he proceeds to the equipment lockers to
retrieve four Standard Starfleet issue cold weather field jackets and gloves.
Placing the field coats down nearby Darryl places his medical equipment down
on the transporter pad. While he is doing so Lieutenant Katerina Janar
strides in her right hand on her holstered tricorder.

In a friendly and steady voice,"Hello Doctor. <ADD WHAT YOU LIKE>

Looking up, "Oh hullo Kate. I was just getting things ready for the Away
mission."
Hands her a field coat and pair of gloves. After she retrieves the coat he
slips into his. The coat extends to the mid thigh and has a large collar
capable of being made into a hood. The liner coresponds with the wearers
department, in thier case the liner was a rich royal blue color. The outside
was all a deep maroon with the combadge on the usual place. Burgandy
highlights reflect off his dark hair under the TR
lights while he was zipping up the coat Darryl and placing his tricorder and
medkit in the places provided for on the coat, when First Lieutenant J. Yular
and Lieutenant Taz entered the Transporter room and stepped up onto the padd.

Confidently,"Is everyone ready?"

Answering the Lieutenant's question Taz double checks his gear," Aye, sir."

As Lieutenant Janar steps up onto the pad a smile blazing on her face, Darryl
addresses Yular,"Perhaps it would be advisable that we wear our field coats
on this mission, Lieutenant. Scans indicate that the ambient temperature
aboard the science vessel is ten degrees below baseline norms."

Authoratively Yular answers," Noted Doctor." And slips into the field coat
offered to him by <<Perhaps you?>>
The Doctor hands out the coats to the rest of the team and readies himself on
the transporter pad. Taking his tricorder out of his pocket with the others.
Phaser and palmlamp in hand Yular turns to the Transport Chief,"Energize."

The away team is swallowed up by the hum and swirl of the transporter.
Nanoseconds later the away team shimmers aboard the cold frosty ship. In
unisos the Away Team whips out their tricorders and palm lamps. The ship's
dim emergency lighting gives way to the brighter search lights. Each moving
thier tricorders to scan a specific area of the deck all indications of life
are negative. Taz looks at his tricorder and frets.
Matter of factly Lieutenant Taz is first to break the silence,"There's no
life here."

Cold clouds of froizen breath hang in the stale air as FsLt. Yular issues his
orders,"
Doctor I want you to begin your search in Sickbay and try to see what
happened here."

The Doctor nod his head in acknowledgment as Yular continues," Janar and Taz
begin your investigation on the bridge. Taz I want you to see if there was
any security breach or intruder. Janar I want you to examine the sensor logs
and see what the science officers on duty recorded what happened. I will go
down to Main Engineering and start my investigation down there," claps his
hands together," lets going going."

The Away Team breaks up and heads in different directions. Lieutenants Janar
and Taz enter a Turbolift and proceed to the bridge while Lieutenant Yular
enters one and descends to main engineering. Already on deck 8 Dr. Ryder
proceeds down the cooridor following his tricorder map of the vessel.

Lieutenants Janar and Taz enter the bridge. Each heads off for different
stations on the bridge. Standing in front of the SciOps station Janar opens
her tricorder and begins a scan. <<Here is where you add what you found and a
cover story to why you left the ship and returned to Darmok which is what I
said had happened. You can use your blossoming creative talents here and you
all you will ever need is your Starfleet uniform ::wiggles eyebrows:: unless
you have other plans on a frozen ship. LOL>>
+Taz to Engineering+ Could you see if you can get any power suplied
to the bridge?
Yular walks cautiously into Main Engineering and doesn't hear the familar
thump.
Looks for the nearest access port.
Looking around and finding his query the Lieutenant reaches up with a gloved
hand and taps his combage, "Atempting to do that right now."
Speaking into his combadge while working on the Tactical Station on the
bridge,"Thank you."
Yular opens panel and begins repairs and modifications in order for the
systems to go back online or even get partial power to the bridge systems.

Finding the door to Sickbay frozen shut the Doctor scans the door with his
tricorder finding the power systems offline. Retrieving his magnetic door
opener he presses it against the the door and begins to push. When he opens
the door enough so that he may pass through he begins another scan of the
facility. Looking down at his readings he read them outloud," No traces of
virus or bacterial infection."
Frowning at this new information The Doctor begins to relie on his one
scanning techniques. Scanning the ward with his eyes and palmlamp he begins
to take notice of a hasty leave from the medical staff. Equipment, supplies
and displays left on. As if something had forced them to leave. kneeling down
to pick up a fallen hypospray the Doctor notices a barely audible beep coming
from the Chief Medical Officer's office. Walking over he finds that the desk
comp was left and on and he proceeds behind the desk
to see what was left on. The Chief Surgeon left his log files on and his log
was on standby playback. Sitting down on the cold chair Dare began to review
the playback.
The form of the Science Vessel's CMO appeared on the screen and began to rely
the information of why the ship was to be found the way it was.
CHIEF MEDICAL OFFICER'S FINAL LOG:
THE CAPTAIN HAS FINALLY TAKEN MY ADVISE AND ARRANGED FOR THE
EVACUATION OF THE CREW TO THE PLANET BELOW THE CREW IS IN GOOD HEALTH

There the log ended and the desk comp lost reserve power. Still curious and
wanting to know what more happened the Doctor begins to leave Sickbay its
information is already used up.

Down in main engineering Lieutenant Yular checks out the systems down in the
dimly lit room.
~~There is no reason that the mains should not be online, yet is it off?~~
Thinks Yular. He begins to shift through isolinear chips left in thier
sockets in the Chief Engineer's office. Each chip checks out as ok and for
reason that he can unearth does he understand why they are not relying
information and working in the correct method.
He hears a low moan from behind him, turns around quickly," What was that!"
He scans the area and finds nothing usual.
Turning back the systems readout panel the engineer trying everything that he
can think of to coax the systems to back on line after each try he met with
nothing but black stillness. Frustrated he kicks the panel," WORK!"
Moves over to the power relays as his combadge channel opens.
Meanwhile on the bridge the officers try what they can to return life to the
cold dead consoles. Frost covers the seats and black terminals. The main
viewer like a cloud covered winter's night casts an almost lonely mood in the
dim emergency lit nreve center.
Her voice ringing throughout the bridge, Janar asks," Anything over there
Taz?"
"Nothing but a dead panel."
Lieutenant Taz's voice sounds out from the gold and silver frost covered
combadge of the away team leader," It's been awhile. Are you having trouble
rerouting power to the bridge?"

Tapping his combadge and hearing the tiny chirp echo in the grand hall of the
warp cathedral," Nothing seems to be working down here. I'm trying my best."

Frowning and thinking of a different approach to his problem Taz
responds,"All right. I'll use my tricorder to power the security panel for
now. Thank you."

From her somewhat hidden aclove Janar sighs and adds under her breath," Same
here. <<Add what you need to.>>
Reaching up to her combadge she taps it opening the channel," Janar to
Yular."

Down in engineering Yular answers her call," Yular here go ahead."
Not recieveing an answer and disregarding it as an error Jon goes on to his
work.
"Why aren't you working? You should be." Says Jon as if expecting an answer
from the computer.
>Please restate your question< Replys the computer in its standard Federation
superior computer voice.
Jon turns to the panel," What?! Computer are you on?"
>Functioning within normal parameters<
"Then why can't I see any screens down here, they are all black as if off?"
Jon inquiers.
>Working...<
Angry Jon kicks the panel," Thats not what I asked."
Taz hooks his tricorder power cell into the panel. Partial power flickers on.
All of his attention is then focused on the panel and the secrets it may
hold. He enters security level code to access information from the Tactical
computer systems. Waits as computer proscesses codes while wondering what is
taking so LONG to process the security codes. Gingerly touches the half
frozen computer After what seems like an eternity the computer works.
Standing over the computer terminal the Lieutenant begins his
survey. Notices the power flicker on and off on the terminal. ~~Damn the
tricorder's fused.~~

Walking out of the Sickbay area on Deck 8, Dare taps his frosted combadge,"
Ryder to Team Leader. Lieutenant we are not going to find the crew aboard
this ship.

Not taking his full attention away from the displays in Main Engineering,"
Why is that Doctor?"

Walking into a turbo lift," The CMO advised the Captain of this vessel that
it would be safer for the crew to be transported downto the surface.
Apparently the falling temperatures were getting to low for the crew to
remain aboard. Quite odd in my opinion sir."

As the doors to the Turbo lift close Dare hopes that the system still
works,"Deck 10." With a audible creek the Turbolift descends.

Puzzled over the news supplied by the Doctor Yular attempts to coax
information from the computer," Were any emergency beacons launched
recently?"
Looking down at the transporter logs while waiting for the answer he reads,"
TRANSPORTER LOG> LAST CREW MEMBERS BEAMED OFF THE SHIP AT 1830
HOURS"

Finally with a a series of beeps and sweeps> NEGATIVE<

"Computer increase temperature to 23 degrees Celsius," orders an impatient
Yular.
> UNABLE TO COMPLY<
Moving his head side to side Yular returns to his open channel with the
Doctor," Keep working on it Doctor I want to know everything."
Walking toward Envionmental Support on Deck 10 notices the almost snow like
covering on the deck plates and tries not to slip and answers the
Lieutnenant, "Aye, Lieutenant I am on my way to Environmental Support."

Looking at the computer questionly Yular asks,"Computer are enviromental
controls working?"
>NEGATIVE<
"Why," Asks Jon?
> ENERGY DISTORTION WAVE CAUSED CASCADING ENVIRONMENTAL FAILURE<
"At what time did this occur Computer?"
> PLEASE RESTATE YOUR QUESTION<
"Damn it!" Exclaims Yular overly frustrated with the computer.
Reaching up to his combadge Yualr opens the channel again to the Doctor," See
if you can manually increase the temperature the computer doesn't seem to
want to do it."

Walking up to the sealed door to Environmental Support Dare replies," Aye I
will try my best Lieutenant. Ryder Out."
~~I'm a Doctor not a meterologist.~~
Scanning the Deck and the room beyond the closed doors the Doctor's Tricorder
begins to get some anamulous readings that his limited Medical Tricorder is
unable to compile. Turning to sweep the cooridor with his palm lamp the
Doctor replaces his tricorder in its pouch and retrieves the magentic door
opener and enters the Environmental Support station.

Sitting in a seat in Main Engineering thinking about the clues he has found
in his survey," Hmm 1 hour after they entered."
{S Tap} Yular to Taz.

+Yular+ Taz here!

+Taz+ The computer says that the enviromental controls failed 1 hour after
the energy wave hit the ship. Have you discovered anything that might have
happened during this time?

On the Bridge pausing in his data retrieval Taz listens closely.

+Yular+ Sorry sir. I haven't. I just got the security computer panel
operational.

Taz begins to check the Security log.
+Taz+ Continue to look over the Security logs. I'll see if I can get anything
out of this
computer.

+Yular+ Aye! I am just finishing up with that Lieutenant.

In Main Engineering Yular returns to his investigation,"Computer power up the
warp core 1/2 crystal matrix."

On the bridge icy clouds of frozen breath hang in the air as Lieutenant Taz
reads the scrolling Security Logs.
SEC LOG> AWAY TEAM SENT TO THE PLANET HAS NOT CHECKED IN
SEC LOG> ALL ATTEMPTS TO HAIL THEM HAVE FAILED
SEC LOG> ATTEMPTS AT BEAMING THEM BACK HAVE ALSO FAILED
+Yular to Taz+ {S TAP} I got something.
{S Tap} Go ahead Taz.
+Yular+ I found a few interesting facts in the security log. It notes that an
AT sent to the planet has not checked in. The record log also states that
communication to the AT has failed. Attempts to beam them back have also
failed.

+Taz+ Thats interesting that you mention that. The Dr. told me the ship's
crew evacuated to the planet's surface to avoid the cold.

+Yular+ We are also having communication problems on the Darmok,
just like the Science Ship!

+Taz+ I believe that something about his planet is the answer. Does the
computer have any records about the planet?

+Yular+ That's my theory also.
+Yular+ The records doesn't have any more information.

+Taz+ Understood, find out anyother information and then see if
you can communicate with the Darmok.

+Yular+ Acknowledged, Sir! Taz out.

Back down on Deck 10 Dare studies the Environmental Support Station
carefully. With his tricorder he scans the consoles. Not getting the
information he frowns at the limited capabilities of his medical tricorder.
Pocketing his Medical Tricorder he begins a visual scan. With his gloved
hands he pops off an access panel. Sees nothing unusual but turns around and
sees an open panel nearby. With a quick fluid movement hi taps his Combadge.
Ryder to Janar, what do the environmental readings on the bridge say?
Frowns when he gets no answer. Getting worried he taps his combadge again,"
Lieutenant Janar respond please."
Noting the work that was being done on the Envir systems gets up and heads
out mind set on one thought.
{S tap} Ryder to Yular Environmental systems online but they are being
disrupted.
~~Why hasn't Kate answered me?~~
Yular answers his hail," Being disrupted. By what?"

+Yular+ Unknown, systems are currently in standby. All systems are just not
functioning. It is as if they are being inhibited. I shut them down so that
the systems do not have a melt down should they be released and the power
flow returns.
Heads for the bridge and enters a Turbolift. Worried for his friend {S tap}
Lieutenant Yular can you order a check in of the AT?
+Ryder+ Alright Doctor.
Turning around in his seat Yular commences with the advisment {S Tap} All
away team check in.
Sounding off the Away Team's names, "Lieutenant Taz."

Answering swiftly,"Check Lieutenant."

"Doctor Ryder," orders Yular.

Serenely,"Check Lieutenant."

There Yular stops. Not hearing anything else the Doctor interjects already on
Deck 3 where the turbolift stopped he walks down the cooridor headed for the
ladder that leads up to Deck 2 and the access hatch to the Bridge. Concerned
and a bit angry at the team Leader for his apparently lack of responsibility.
"Lieutenant, where is the Science Officer?"

::Looks around:: Oh my I forgot about Janar. {S Tap} I am not sure
doctor.

"Computer what are your current orders?" Asks Lieutenant Yular.

Walking swiftly through the dimly lighted deck Dare trips over a bulge in the
deck and hits the ground hard. "Crap." Exclaims the Doctor as he hits the
ground.

On the bridge Taz hears a loud thump over all channels in communicator.
Concerned he inquires the Doctor. +Ryder+ ::Concerned:: Ryder.. are you
alright?

+Ryder+ ::Gets very worried when the Doctor doesn't reply quick enough.::
Ryder...acknowledge!

Picking himself off the deck and rubbing his shin," No I am not alright. I
have been calling Janar and she is not responding. As for what just happened
I'll survive. Have you heard from her Lieutenant?"

+Ryder+ Glad to hear you're OK. After saying that taz looks around the bridge
taking notice of the things in the bridge that he hadn't since he was focused
on his job. He calls out cold clouds exploding into the frigget air," Janar?
Umm..Janar!! I don't got time to play jokes!

Waiting for the Lieutenant to reply Dare takes a tricorder scan of the bulge
in the deck plating. His eyes widen as he reads his findings. Hurriedly he
crawls away from the bulge. EM radiation in that concentrated area is well
off the scale.

+Ryder+ ::::Very scared::: Ryder..no..she was with me a minute
ago. Computer, locate Ja....:::remembers computers aren't operating
proberly:::

Getting to the access ladder and athletically skipping a few rungs to get to
the top faster he advises Lieutenant Taz.
+Taz+ Hmmm, I'll be right there, Lt. can you scan the ship for EM radiation
patterns?

Down in Main Engineering Yular continues his investigation and turns up some
new information about the ruins of an advanced civilization on the third
planet. Apparently the reason why this vessel traveled there to begin with.
Eager to share this information with his team he open the channel via
combadge.
{S Tap} Yular to AT I have some new information.
Quickly climbs the access ladder through deck 2 and heads up to Deck 1
listening to Yular speak.

+Yular+ Aye sir. ::Pays close attention::

+ Away Team+ I have been accesing the computer and found out that this ship
was
sent to discover information about some very advanced ruins on the third
planet.

Climbs the ladder and halts at the closed access hatch to deck 1.

Listening to the findings and is througholy intrigued.

+Away Team+ The computer says that some sort of machine was discovered in the
central portion of the ruins. And an away team is currently studying it.

Dare climbs the ladder to the bridge and jars the hatch open on the bridge as
he crawls out.

Taz notices hatch open and grabs his flashlight gasping from mild fright at
the loud sound made as the Doctor manhandled the access hatch.

Dare walks over to Taz left pant leg torn just below the knee in a diagnal
rip.

Taz notices Ryder and his torn trousers and sighs," You scared me!"
Speaking in the background through thier combadges, Yular continues," Find
out any more information you can about this third planet and the away teams
mission. Then I want to get off this ship."

Serenely the Doctor adds," My apologies. It was not my intention."

Speaking to his Team leader Taz replies," Understood! Sir!"

More somber than Taz Dare answers back," Aye Lieutenant"

The Doctor then walks over to OPs and tries to get what info he can. Doning
his job as swiftly and as efficently as he can he downloads the information
onto his tricorder and looks around the bridge for signs of Lieutenant Janar.

Moving swiftly at his station Lt. Taz transfers tactical to the security
computer and checks the tactical computer.
"Ryder, could you download the security logs onto your tricorder? Mine's
powering a few computers."

Satsified with the data retrieval Dare hands his tricorder over to Taz," No
problem."

Smiling Taz says," Thank you. I owe ya' one!" Sticks tricorder in an open
parallel port.

Dr. Ryder walks over to the SciOps station noticing smaller foot prints in
the frosted deck plates.

Lt Taz quickly finishes up his data retrieval, "Computer, trnansfer tactical
and security activity logs to the tricorder." Stepping back he waits. Takes
tricorder out and wonders what Ryder is looking at on the floor.
Here you go, Ryder. As Taz continues looking at the floor.

Dr Ryder kneels down to the floor and notes that the size is not Taz's. Dare
reachs up and retrieves the Tricorder. "Thank you."

"Dr..are you looking at the foot prints?" Inquires a confused Taz.

"You haven't been to this station have you?" Asks the Doctor.

" No.." Replies Taz.
Formulating a hypothesis in his mind he stands up.

Lt Taz turns his attention back to the computer.
Dr Ryder Starts," Janar's missing and this..." he says as he points to the
deck.

In the background at the Security Station, COMPUTER> Transfer of files
compete.

Dr Ryder looks up at the dimly lit console and downloads information from
SciOps to his tricorder. Waiting he decides to contact the Darmok, "+tap+
Ryder to TR Chief, has anyone from our AT beamed back?"
As the Transporter Chief answers the Doctor back the information download is
completed. Folding up his tricorder and nods at the response given from the
TR
chief, " Thank you Chief, Away Team out."
The Doctor turns back to the SciOps station and examines the displays closer.
~~Even if the temp dropped some crewmembers would still be onboard~~
Curious Dare walks over to the Command tier of the bridge and heads for the
Operations Station.

"Computer, display tactical activity logs." Commands Taz.

>NO TACTICAL MANEUVERS HAVE BEEN NECESSARY. NO HOSTILE SHIPS
HAVE BEEN IN THE AREA. ONLY OTHER FEDERATION SHIPS HAVE BEEN IN ORBIT.
COMMUNICATION WITH THOSE BEFORE MENTIONED VESSELS WAS LOST FOUR STANDARD DAYS
AGO<

Back down in Main Engineering Lt. Yular tries to dig deeper in the mystery.
Computer when was this discovery made?
Then an away team did discover this room and beamed back to the
ship? How many ships computer I want an exact number?
FsLtYular: And type of ship, science, scout, etc.?::Smiles knowing he made
the computer think::Come computer I don't have all day I am only mortal.
+Yular+ I have some more information regarding ships. It appears that there
has been NO hostile ships in the area. Only OTHER Federation ships in orbit
around the planet. Communcation with them was lost 4 days ago."

+Taz+ Alright, did you get all the information I requested, you
and Ryder?

+Yular+ Yes sir.

Walking back to the Ops station and decides to look at the helm readouts he
notices a flashing warning toggle. reaching up to his combadge he contacts
Lt. Yular," Lieutenant the orbit is decaying rapidly."

Taz turns and looks at Ryder standing over the Conn.

Tapping his combadge Yular orders," AT to beamout sight NOW!"
Tapping his own combadge Taz answers," Understood, sir!" Quickly Taz
activates link between the Darmok and the Science via his fused tricorder. As
a precaution Taz hits the emergency data dump toggle and in a flash the
tricorder sends all data collected to the Darmok.

Lt. Yular grabbing his tricorder and holstering it in his field jacket runs
toward a turbolift enters and orders it back to Deck 8 where the team beamed
in.

Frustrated by this investigation Dare turns around to join Taz who is whating
for the Doctor at the access hatch.

"Ryder, come on, let's go!" Pleads Taz.

Both Officers jump down the hatch and make to deck 3 where they get into a
turbolift and head down to deck 8.

First to arrive at the beamout sight is Lt. Yular. Waiting for the rest of
his team Yular contacts the Darmok, " Yular to Darmok prepare to beam us back
on my command."

DARMOK> WE'RE READY WHEN YOU ARE, SIR.

The Doctor and Taz enter Deck 8 and see Yular standing at the beam in site
both officer's hearts are beating rapidly. Dare has a grievence with the Team
leader for not being more attentive to his team members but holds his tongue
until they get back to the Darmok. As the officers stand close together for
transport the deck plates shake as the ship rocks. Turning to Yular the
Doctor adds," We need to hurry."

Asking his team Yular pauses before ordering the transport," Did any of you
find Janar?"
Lt Taz looks at Ryder," Did you find Janar?"
Answering swiftly Dr Ryder turns to Yular," The TR Chief said that she
transported back."
Lt Taz sighs a relief:: at the information given by the Doctor.

"Alright then," Begins the Lt.," Yular to Darmok beam us out."

Blue auras surround the Away team as the Transport takes them back to the
Darmok. As the forms disappear a cold gust of air lifts up some frost from
the deck plates like a person waving good bye at a train station.

will report all of my findings to both Dr. Huston & Dr. Ryder.

The computer was reconfigured in our ICU unit & I ran a level one diagnostic,
it is functioning at maximum capacity. All biobeds have been upgraded & the
force field programs have been upgraded & reinforced.

Diagnosis For Ensign Strong:
Ensign Strong reported to sickbay with a plasma burn on his right forearm. By
use of my mediacl tricorder, I administered corophizine for infection &
tralaline to stimulate regeneration of the injured tissue. I have released
him, fit for duty. He has an appointment to return to sickbay for a recheck
in 48 hours. Due to Ensign Strong's metabolism, his injury was almost
completely healed before he left sickbay. I have attached Ensign Strong's
past history & physical status to this report.

following.
Computer> Begin when ready.

I have seen all I care to see of Mars. Great place, actually. I love the
natural landscape. Red, red, red... After a while, though, it seems a lot
like Earth. I mean, sure, you've got the ancient Martian ruins, but I've been
looking at those for the past week!
Mars does have one of only a few ice rinks in the Alpha Quadrant, though.
Which brings me to...

The most memorable experience I had on this shore leave was when our captain
managed to take my arm out of its socket and fracture a bone in my calf.
Nothing too serious, of course. Took barely a minute for their doctor down
there. But... well... never mind.

Oh, I also met Arronax for the first time in a long while! He's posted to the
Excelsior, the flagship! I am very happy for him, though the Darmok is
obviously the best ship in the fleet. :-)
And you know what? The absolutely impossible! He had emotions! A Vulcan who
shows his emotions! Not unheard of, of course, but this was Arronax. "I never
met an emotion I ever liked" Arronax! ::laughs:: Who knows what's next? Well,
our captain knows I bet, although I'm not so eager to see her...

Besides, I still have some personal things to do.

And if I leave Yular as the only good engineer on the Darmok for too long, I
just *know* something bad's gonna happen.

Computer, close both logs. Except, delete the last line from the duty log.

A fire rages in his eyes for a brief moment,
then dies.::

::quietly says:: I'll try to get an OK from them.

::Sperol bends down.::

Aha! Found it!

::He holds up an isolinear chip.::

Computer, close personal log.
Computer> Log ended.

::Sperol walks over to a console, inserts the chip, and types a few commands
in. The routine he had programmed that patched together the replicator and
transporter was deactivated and relegated to the chip. No evidence of
tampering was left.::

Well, that's that.

::He walks over to a drawer and opens it. Inside are two things: a PADD and a
roll of duct tape. He removes them and places them in a special container.::

Container, lock.
Container> Locked.

::Sperol places the container back in the drawer.::

SD9701.17
0945hrs

Sierra watched as her office door closed behind the departing figure of her
second appointment of the morning. No more appointments lined up until
noon... she mentally adjusted her thinking to her Tactical mode as she sat
down at her desk and looked over the piles of PADDs sitting there.

Giving up her CTAC office meant that she would have to do both jobs out of
this office, which she spent most of her time in anyway ... when had she
scheduled that Tactical crew meeting for? She glanced over at her terminal.
1500 hrs.

Her gaze wandered slightly, and she looked at the plant in the envirocase on
her desk. The plant reminded her of the big T, and she smiled. The plant,
like its home planet, was vivid and sturdy looking, and she was always a
little amused that it was so enviromentally sensitive.

She leaned back in her chair, unconciously folding her hands in a protective
stance across her stomach. Dare had been cautious at first last night, when
she had told him, but he was happy... and that made her very happy, too. She
wanted to tell Janar, but she had had to wait until she could tell Dare.
Sierra was suddenly reminded of a talk she had had with T'Kala about that
alternate universe, a universe where Katarina had been several months
pregnant. She smiled at the thought, which also made her
realize she had not closed T'Kala's file.

Sierra pulled up T'Kala's personnel file, another file tagged with the
glaring red MIA mark. She thought back the couple of weeks to the mission...
she, Trax, and K'Vada had pursued the 'bee in one of the Darmok shuttles...
but they got there just a bit too late. Scans of the area indicated no
shuttle wreckage; there was the obvious answer that T'Kala had managed to
cross over, certainly resonant traces of cosmic activity pointed to that
possibility.

She completed the file and entered it, sending the prerequistite copy to
SFHQ. This was a decidedly unpleasant part of her job, she thought. She
wondered how Dare or James felt when they had to fill out the death
certificates down in Sickbay. To want to help, to try your best to help...
and to have the efforts go unanswered. Part and parcel of the whole medical
field, she thought, watching as the receipt confirmation came up on her
screen.

Sierra looked at the small pile of new crew personnel file PADDs stacked
neatly on one side of her desk. The one that fascinated her the most was
Commander Damara Seven, their new XO. She had seen Damara entering Ahrele's
quarters, and had at first impression taken her for an android. She looked
over her file carefully, looking forward to that session. ~~How fascinating,
a Borg in Starfleet...~~

There was also their new Beta quadrant liason officer, a Trill by the name of
Amber Trent. Lt. Roger's wife, Ens. Checov had also come aboard, in the
science department, and a Ltjg. Tambrot had also come aboard for the science
department.

She was pleased to see the plans for the vegetable gardens, which would help
stretch some of their resources. Plus, while replicated food wasn't bad, it
certainly couldn't touch the real thing. Rogers had mentioned making
spaghetti sauce, which sounded great... if she could get over this craving
for plomeek soup!

Not much to report since my last log just a few hours ago. Which leads me to
wonder why I'm recording this one.

But, anyway, chiefs of staff got to go to a senior staff meeting. Jonathan,
though... he looked... distant. As if he was always thinking of something
else. I hope he wasn't like that in the meeting!

Rog pointed out a new transponder we have. Hmm, didn't notice that. I have to
be more vigilant in reading modification reports.

Besides that... Random and I helped LT Janar get her stuff off the shuttle
onto the ship.

Finally, we just received a distress call from a transport ship in the Vraki
asteroid field. It's caught in some sort of energy web. I would investigate,
but it's Science's job, not mine. I'll just come up with the solutions. :-)

Computer, close duty log, open personal log.

Strange. A panel fell off in Engineering. Why?

::sighs:: If this is another conspiracy, I'm going to kill someone. No, it
can't be. Just a fluke. An accident.

Anyway, I heard that the senior staff now has access to the Reconn Suite.
::sighs again:: Well, obviously, I'm not senior staff, so I don't get to see
it. Oh, well. I'm sure Yular will let us know the things we need to know. If
he can get out of his dream state, that is. I really have to talk to him.

Also, I met, or at least spoke to, our new first officer, Commander Damara.
She looks a lot like an android, actually. She walked into my Trecer program.
Score another point, computer.

Speaking of the holodeck, I also finally finished my hockey program. I'll
have to try it when we have time, which is (I assume) never. Our new mission
is in the Beta Quadrant, after all. We're just getting a bit sidetracked. In
fact, we took on a lot of plants and vegetables. Guess we'll have replicated
meat.

to pick up the last of our supplies and our Beta Quadrant Liaison Officer. I
conducted a meeting of my senior officers and introduced them to CmdrDamara
Seven, the Darmok's new First Officer.

Near the conclusion of the meeting, I was contacted by Ensign Casper who
informed me that ship's communications had picked up a distress call from the
USS Pegasus, a Federation transport ship carrying 350 passengers. Sensor
readings indicated that the Pegasus was located in the Vrakian Asteroid Field
and appeared to be caught in a web of silicon and neutrino energy particles.

I ordered helm to change course and we are currently enroute to the asteroid

discover the source of the web so that we can assist the Pegasus.

I attended a senior staff meeting held by Captain Ahrele. Dr. Huston & Dr.
Ryder were unavoidably unavailable, so I attended so our department would
have representation. I met our new first officer, Commander Damara Seven. The
Captain requested that all senior staff members take a tour of the new reconn
section. I will notify both Dr. Ryder & Dr. Huston as they may want to do the
tour themselves.

I returned to sickbay & checked on Ens Brave, who had been complaining about
not feeling well.

Diagnosis for EnsBrave:
Ens Brave had been complaining about feeling ill & nauseous. He also
complained of sleeplessness. I examined him & found that he has a virus known
as Rigelian fever. It is in beginning stages & I can only surmise that he
must have contracted the disease while on shore leave last week.

I accessed all information on the cure & treatment of the disease & found
that the antidote that was the most successful was Ryetalyn.

I administered 10 cc's of the drug by use of my medical tricorder &
instructed EnsBrave to take at least twenty four hours of complete bed rest.

I gave him a mild sedative for sleep & scheduled him for a recheck in two
days. I am confident that the treatment will be successful. We were able to
catch it in it's early stages. Ryetalyn always performs best if given at the
diseases onset.

I will make sure that both senior doctors have a copy of my report in thier
files for re-evaluation & consult.

Computer close duty log and begin recording personal log.

Personally all this run around with Admiral Richardson has caused quite a
stir in me. I mean how can Starfleet miss someone like that. It must have
been some huge conspiracy or something but I don't deal with those.

::smiles:: That's what security is for.

Everything about this mission just seemed wrong from where it began. It
sounds like some story that I recently read.

Captain Johannson informed us that we have shoreleave till stardate 9701.22
while we are docked at the Utopia Plantia Shipyards around Mars. I plan to
go visit my home where I was raised. Alas but it will be empty no one is
around. Mom is on the Faragut and Katerina is...

::thinks for a moment::

come to think of it, I don't remember where she said she was. Boy am I on
top of things these days.

Computer close personal log.

::Jon takes a look at the chronometer::

I think it is about time I returned home...

The Web
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
::Damara sits in her chair on the bridge, waiting to hear the reports back
from Science and Tactical. She decides to quickly record her logs while
there is time::
Computer, open my duty log.
Computer> Duty log open.
While en route to Quo'noS, the Darmok has received a distress call from a
transport ship, the Pegasus. We are currently investigating and have
discovered that the ship is caught in some kind of a web within the Vrakian
asteroid field. Our initial scans indicate that the web consists of a
combination of silicon and neutrino energy particles. It is not yet known if
this is a natural occurring phenomenom or has been generated artificially.
Other than being trapped in the web, the Pegasus appears to be unharmed at
this time. As soon as we get a more extensive report from Science and
Tactical, we will decide on the best course of action to take. Our highest
priority is, of course, rescuing the 350 people caught on board the ship.
Computer, close my duty log.
