"Dressed for Success Still"
or
"Somebody Get Some Clothes on Him"
DL by Surak
Captain Dante Aristotle Surak gazed at the Fleet Tactical Display. Most
of the Fleet was positioned along the Cardassian border. ~~What's happening
on the Cardassian Border~~ He thought staring at the screen. ~They must be
preparing for something~~.
The Vulcan continued scanning the screen, and finally got back to the
Beta Quadrant side. ~~Why is the Potemkin orbiting Storrs III~~. He quickly
pushed some buttons and found something Significantly Less Than Good. "Ens
Chatter is there something wrong with the computer? It is showing that the
USS Potemkin is an Akira class starship, and not an Adventure class.."
Ens Chatter quickly performed the diagnostics and seeing the Captain's
gown open again. He burst out laughing "Computer....systems nominal sir".
Turning, and raising an eyebrow trying to suppress the growing rage,
"What is so blasted funny Ensign?!"
Chatter's smile turned to a mask of terror. "Uh....sir...your wearing a
"Health Bay" gown.....and only the gown....sir..." the ensign said quickly
glancing down at his control panel.
Surak could only double raise his eyebrows, and ran to his office. ~~Dear
Prophets, how am I going to explain this one to HC~~

"WHAT DAY IS IT?"
or "How long was I drinking, anyway?"
BY ZANTUS A'ETHERS
sd: 9809.23
Zantus still wasn't sure what was going on.
It had been business as usual for weeks now, the exThugs dropping by to have
a few shots and pay their tab, N'rm Pt'rson coming by to escape the wrath of
his mate V'ra, and the usual redshirts and civs to enjoy the atmosphere of
the Any Port Tavern.
Then the crewbies of the outpost got edgy. Rumor was, among the lowrankers
and the nonStarfleet types, that some quote-unquote all-powerful entity
called Q was running amok messing with people's minds. And Zantus had to
admit he had a weird feeling two weeks earlier, when he had a dream of some
kind where he was some Terran barbarian hunting heads.
Then, there was a kind of...discontinuity. One moment, everything was
normal. For a split second...maybe longer, Zantus and everyone in the Tavern
(and apparently everyone at the post, according to the rumors) felt
disoriented. To Zantus, it felt like the Orion 'vertigo chambers' they used
back on Xenar.
And then it all passed, everything seemed all right. Key word being seemed.
Then the news-comms got in.
Zantus had practically fainted when he read the date. It was now eighteen
months later. he had then checked the previous news-comms from Zeta Leo IV
and read about the mourning of the disappearance/death of 'the wanderer Xenar
Zantus A'Ethers, friend to the son of Sybilus Helen C'Antwel, Jay Winger...'.
Tseng, Rude, and Reno, for their part, were similarly bewildered. Rude,
upon learning of the date, had said in his drunken stupor, "How long was I
drinking, anyway?" Reno and Tseng, being more sober, had to slowly break it
to Rude what had happened, however inexplicably.
Rude had then blinked, thought that over, and said, "Zan, I'll have another
glass."
Everyone at the Tavern was in an uproar from the temporal discontinuity.
Zantus had immediately gotten on the comm-channel to Zeta Leo IV to assure
all that he was fine. His friend Jay Winger had also contacted him upon
hearing that the outpost had 'reappeared' to verify that he was alive.
At the moment, the Tavern was mostly empty. A few party-hardy types were
sleeping off the alcohol, or just sleeping in some cases, and N'rm was
nursing some tonic water. He looked up as the exThugs entered. Rude was
still a little blitzed...the displaced light-filters were a sign. Tseng
guided his inebriated friend to a barstool and ordered him a black coffee.
Rude blinked his bleary eyes and asked, "What day is it? Is it still
eighteen months from now?"
"Last time I checked," Zantus replied, "uhm, yeah."
Rude's eyes rolled back and he fell forward and passed out. Zantus looked
at him and said to Reno. "You know, I don't appreciate you guys using this
place as a shelter for the blitzed."
"Rude is not much of a day person," Reno said.
"He's not much of a night person either," Zantus remarked. "I think I'll
cut him off for a while. Otherwise his liver will have more scar tissue than
my father."
Tseng nodded and sat down next to N'rm. "What's the story, N'rm?"
"Boy meets drink," the alien replied, "boy drinks drink, boy meets another
drink."
The day (whatever day it was) rolled on...

The sphere experience turned out to be more than I expected. Of all things,
there was a Q responsible for all of the havoc reeked. The whole island
experience was not enough of a humiliation for the crew however, he continued
to humiliate the crew even after he shrunk the sphere enough to hold it in
the palm of his hand. ::sighs:: ~~A toy indeed~~ The Q did eventually leave
but not without playing games with the captain's
head, the sick bay's decor and the Major's attire.
~~I wonder how the Major is fairing with all of this, I noticed some of the
crew thought it rather amusing at the time, I felt bad for him though, that
damn Q....playing around with a man's dignity. I guess the best thing to do
now when seeing him on duty is just to pretend I never saw him in a
dress.....well, I can pretend anyway~~

"....Apparently OPC and the Vantar colony have been *poofed* 18 months into
the future. I believe it is a result of or encounter with the Q.
Our temporal displacement has been confirmed by our the crew at our
Subspace Relay Station. Apparently, 18 months ago, in their perspective, we
disappeared buildings and all. Since that time there have been several
political and technological advancements too which we need to acclimate
ourselves.
The closet starship to us, besides the Desiderata, is the USS
Potemkin, NCC-76927-C. It is currently in orbit around Storrs III.
I have contacted the Potemkin, only to find that Captain "Putty"

ACSEC Duty Log

Thanks to who knows what, I've finally gotten most of my memory back.
Although both the Doctor and the Counselor have both stated I need to stay
off-duty until tomorrow, I have already decided to head back. Why waste
purrfectly good time, and without Cassie to keep me busy, I more time than
ever.
I've recieved a welcome from most of the Alpha shift crew, and my security
team seemed even happier. One odd occurance was the ACTAC, Lt. Logan. His
insults are puzzeling, although he seemed to get even madder and more
confused when I took everything with a good humor. I didn't see any reason
to get angry for it, so why he expected me to I have no idea. As a matter
of fact, I don't even remember him, although his purrsonality, when he
decides
to be polite, is probably something to be liked.
Another interesting occurance is the date, which seems to have leaped
eightteen months into the future. Something is up, and I have a feeling this
is no practical joke. I have yet to talk to the Major, as he has been too
busy to take any amount of a short break. I might have to speak to Doctor
Winters about "abducting" him for a day, if anything to get him away from it
all. I'm sure she can handle it.

IT'S JUST A JUMP TO THE LEFT
"DON'T PANIC" advice from "The HItchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy."
"Are you sure you're reading that right, little Ferengi?"
Keldar glanced around, looked back to Elana to see if it was her talking
but she was working in the other chamber still. Shaking his head, he figured
that he was letting his imagination run wild.
"Ah, yes a Ferengi's imangination is such a wonderful thing, see what you
think about this."
Keldar was really wondering what was going on, he saw noone but still that
voice. Shrugging he glanced down at the tricorder, to check on the isotope
readings. He blinked, these readings couldn't be right....if they were...it
meant that all the isotopes were gone. Looking up he squinted and saw,
instead of dilithuim crystals in their containment, he saw a mass of eels. He
took a deep breath and closed his eyes, and looked again. The eels were
gone, but in their place was a giant floating eyeball. That set Keldar aback.
He almost called for the chief but restrained himself.
"Is that you Q?"
"Ah the Ferengi finally figured it out."
"What do you want?" Keldar said more boldly then he felt.
"Nothing really, you see it's been awhile since I had the distinct pleasue
of talking to one of your kind. Very fun most of them are. I just wanted to
see if you were like them."
"And? Am I? Do I measure up to your expectations?"
"Well when it comes to most races I keep expectations to a low."
"Sounds fair enough." Keldar replied just trying to keep mind on his job,
and hoping the Q would leave. He hadn't dealt with him the previous time and
right now he really did want to deal with him at all.
"Is the little man trying to ignore me? We cant have that." Q snapped his
fingers.
Keldar heard a hiss and felt the extreme heat enter through the suit. He
tried to call the chief but a warning light appeared indicating that his comm
system was malfunctioning. The heat quickly made him woozy and he fell to his
knees. The giant eyeball floated down into view.
"You see it hurts when you ignore a Q, doesn't it?"
All Keldar could do was manage a nod. Q snapped his fingers and the suit
returned to normal and Keldar was able to breath normally again. Standing up
he glanced at the eyeball, thinking how odd it was that a giant eyeball could
snap its fingers.
"There you see that kind of thinking could make you very interesting. Now
to see if you can figure out the little situation I put you in. The readings
are there lets see if you can find them."
The Q let out a laugh and the eyeball winked, smiled at him and vanished.
Keldar looked around but he saw no trace of Q. Breathing easier he went back
to his work. The tricorder had changed its readings once again, but he had
recorded the previous ones and decided to stick with those.
Keldar wondered if he had imagined the whole thing. Everything seemed normal
now except for slight fluctuations to his tricorder readings. He decided to
head back and talk to his chief. Leaving beat chamber he saw Elana, and it
seemed like she was talking at someone. He walked up to her.
"Chief?" he asked.
Elana was staring out into space, and it seemed like she was talking with
herself. She had been acting a bit odd, but Keldar still thought it was the
heat. He tried again.
"Chief?" He waved his hand in front of her, to no avail. He noticed than
that his communication light was blinking again. So he gently nudged Elana,
but his hand phased right through her. Keldar almost lost his balance, but
managed to keep it at the last minute. It must be the heat, he looked down
took another deep breath and suddenly found himself back in beta chamber. His
communication system was back to normal, or perhaps it always was. Had he
fallen asleep in here? Maybe he should head to sickbay to check to see if he
was completely fit.
He looked down and sent a message to Elana.
"Chief, readings in here match yesterday's as well." He said over the comm
system."
"Acknowledged, Keldar, meet you back at the door then."
Elana's voice came back over the comm system. It seemed to Keldar there had
been some hesitation, but he was glad to hear her voice. He headed back to
the door to get out of this inferno. He waved at Elana as she waited for him
at the door. They entered and waited as the decontamination spray worked over
them. As the outside door opened they left and worked quickly to remove their
suits. Keldar thought
about telling her about his experience in there , but changed his mind until
he felt some squirming in his uniform. Looking down he saw something moving,
reaching in he pulled out an eel. Gulping, he looked up to see Elana with a
bemused look on her face.
"Keldar, umm...why did you have a eel down your pants?" she asked, a smirk
running across her face.

more until he understood it.

maked a face of slight disgust at herself in the mirror and ended up
chuckling at herself as she sighed and had a seat at her desk. The person in

that has been assessing the situation. With some 10,000 natives on the

asked the Federation to assist in his fight with the natives and is currently
in discussion with the captain while my team checks out
the perimeter defense system. Ltn. Chase and myself were escorted by Symon

Re: Sociological Report, Cromar III
It is apparent to me even if I am not a sociology expert but my gut
feeling is that somebody has been doing the wrong thing in this planet... a
people do not go up in arms just because someone is ugly or strange ... it
seems to me that our host the governor has been up to something nefarious so
as to enrage these natives into an all our rebellion... Scientifically the
planet is rich in natural resources, fauna and flora ... cataloging and
studying would be interesting at best. Unfortunately with the state of
relations at this time this will have to be postponed or outright forgotten
in sake of survival.
Right now we are in a situation were Prime directives and survival
instincts at clashing ... all is in the hands of our Captain. I will await
his orders ... but if it comes to staying alive... I will upholster and fire,
ask questions later or pick up the pieces ... or the body bags...

Still away on the planet, I have managed with the help of Lt Kya to find a

lousy thing decided to blow. The Captain had some plan of trying to soothe if
you will the bad blood of the natives. I didnt really understand it nor did i
care to much. Counsellor LeNaud had managed to seperate
herelf from the secured, well sort fo secured base camp and had wondered over
to a hill. She had started to fly and the weather started acting really odd.
But when the natives surrounded the area by here, I was unable to know what
happened next. Surak wanted the transportes last week, typical vulcan, cant
understand the work no. After managing to somehow get them working....I
questioned on the welfare of Nikki and Kit just yelled at me to beam her
up. And soon after Surak wanted the same. Transporting first Nikki, and then
the Captain and Livingstone, Surak wanted me to beam them down by a group of
natives......as I did so I noticed that Nikki had gotten herself wounded....a
spear in the belly. And it did not look good. Telling Kit that we had a big
problem, I managed to rip some of my uniform off to stop some of the bleeding
and Nikki glanced once at me and then lost conciousness. And then I
felt another thump as Kit ran down another native.....

they were down right revolting. I got separated from the rest of my team
when we took cover and found myself fighting on the fringes of the natives
trying to return to my team and report back to the ship. I really wanted to
know more about what Governor Livingston was up to and why the natives were
reacting the way they were to his rule, but I was cut off from my team and my
communicator was damaged with the first attack.
::Mandy closed her duty log and rubs the sore spot just under where her new

Captain Surak gave Decker and myself the task to come up with sociological
options to open talks with the Cromarian natives. Of the limited information
we got from planetside databanks and Federation survey data we came to the
conclusion that a contest of strength would be the opening gesture from our
part with the present of a hostage to be won by the victor of the fight.
Captain Surak accepted the recommendations and took Governor Livingston as
the hostage and also asked both Decker and myself to go with the landing
party to a location 'behind "the skirmish line of the Cromarian. The
combination of the transporter effect and the appearance of the both Surak
and Livingston among the rebellious natives should give enough time for
communication to follow. I have hopeful expectation about the plan. The next
option is all out war with an immensely inferior adversary and that is no
contest.

Due to our last mission and what would have happened if it had not been
resolved, I had a meeting with all of the science staff and found out we have
2 assistants that have sociological minors from the Academy, with this in
mind I have set up a sociology/anthropology division to learn and document
all the different cultures around the outpost circle of influence. With this
done we should not have any more problem about how to deal with all the
different population centers in the surrounding planets. These scientist
will go out to the other planets and spend time and report on them.
As timetables are going online we are posting a possibility of 2 years

I have asked my zoological assistants to start all of the new
investigations on the fauna of Vantar IV i want a full Zoological catalog by
the end of the month and creature numbers to monitor population and migratory
patterns. since most of the fauna is aquatic in nature we are setting up
remote monitoring stations in different parts of the ocean floor and surface.
The last survey was done when the outpost was originally started, no followup
survey was ever done.
Up coming projects:
1) Geological survey and Planet remapping.
2) Planet wide Flora survey and catalog
3) Toxicological investigations in local flora and fauna toward

Ron reported for duty with his uniform and a mess halfway on. He
had...::Ahems:: Been with his wife before he reported for duty. He was at
attention as he stood before Captain Surak. Surak gave him orders to follow
the election and maintain his duties at Ops. Ron went to Ops and began to go
over the election in a poll. He felt bored and called his wife up to Ops. She
came up and they talked. The console started to
spark as she flirted with him. Ron was burned, but Star was there to heal his
burns. He asked her to help him fix the console and she agreed. Surak came
out of his room and told Ron and Star that he's fix the console and watch
over the election results. Ron was stubborn and fixed the wiring on the
console, putting the panel back on afterwards. Ron and Star were dismissed as
he had this look in his eye to get revenge on his wife. Star ran away as he
headed to the bar. Ron approached Liethia and asked for whipped cream.
Liethia had this confused look as she handed him a can of whipped cream. Ron
then proceeded to chase his wife all over the station. Ron finally caught her
and poured whipped cream down her uniform!! He ran as Star chased after him.
Finally, Ron ran and too a dive under the Ops console. Star would soon get

By utilizing the Cromarrians as slave labor, he has violated the Prime

"changed" by their servitude.
There is still a small Outpost Cousteau security detail at the outpost

to bring supplies and to facilitate personnel transfers for the Security

Lt. Cmdr. Mancuso is eagerly preparing a major scientific survey of

year since the Federation has been on Vantar IV, a complete zoological survey
has never been completed.

Update report on Zoological Survey.
Research Team Zeta reported to me today a full listing of the aquatic
animals that have to be updated in the up coming survey. Most are large
mammal-like and fish type specimens that were found in the original survey,
still expectations indicate and these were confirmed by computer models that
almost 100 new species of fish and aquatic mammal-like specimens should be
found in a first sweep scenario. I am Confident that these expectations will
be met.
Other relevant information reported is that there are 2 species of fish
that are on the verge of extinction they are the Blue Parrot Swisher and the
GoldenSwisher the cause has not been determined as of yet but interference
has not been ruled out.
These two species are fished by the local people and are considered a
delicacy. Over fishing is also not ruled out as a cause but no evidence exist
to link this to the species demise.
Equipment requisitions have been sent to procurement and all permits and
authorizations have been submitted and acknowledged. I am waiting for the
equipment to be sent and a short brief from the Zeta Team to the Survey Team
to be conducted in the following shift.

"The captain suggested to find out who is taking cloaking technology and how
that we set up a person as an undercover agent in the black market. I
volunteered for the project, however Lt.Commander Scott seemed to think the
Counselor would make a better candidate for this mission. I gave my reasons
that I thought a security person would be better suited to such a project
than a counselor, but the decision will be up to the captain."
Mandy closed the duty log but still felt a bit unsettled about the whole
incident. Wondering if she should say anything else about her feelings to
Scott she decided perhaps to write it in her personal log instead.

First Lieutenant Tia Sloan Ryan
Science Officer
Outpost Cousteau
Duty Log SD 9811.15
This action takes place during the sim....
Tia clutched at the edges of the console as the shuttle lurched wildly
downward. ~Squid!~ The wild listing and quick descent of the shuttle
coupled with the thought of a giant squid made Tia's stomach flop over.
Never one for wild roller coaster rides, Tia's face first paled then colored
itself into a complimentatary green shade to match her normally gloriously
green eyes. The last thing she wanted to do was lose her lunch right here in
front of Mancuso and everybody else. Swallowing hard, she bit the inside of
her lower lip, trying desparately to hold back her rising gorge.
Tia's first real duty shift at Cousteau had taken an unexpected turn, one
that flung the inhabitants of the small shuttle around as the giant squid
played with their shuttle like a cat toying with a mouse before it devours
it. The creature was enormous. The body registered nineteen and a half
meters long, with its tentacles, it was about thirty-five meters long. Tia
blinked incredulously at her scanner display, running another scan to confirm
before blurting out the the squid's stats to Commander Mancuso. ~Incredible!
Absolutely incredible!~
The computer wasn't much help, there was no exact match for this creature in
the databases. Visual showed something right out of Jules Vernes' Twenty
Thousand Leagues Under the Sea. Apparently the squid was hunting and the
shuttle seemed to show promise as a tasty treat. The distasteful and
unyielding metal surface of the shuttle only enraged the gigantic creature as
its first efforts to bite into it's prey were unsuccessful. Bellowing
in rage and filling the waters around it with its black, noxious ink, the
squid shook the shuttle furiously.
Ryan wondered idely if getting eaten alive by a sea creature or possibly
drowned was any worse than being burned into oblivion by the heat of the
Omegan sun. Scientific outposts had inherent dangers too, perhaps not as
varied as the life of a starship officer -- but dangers nevertheless.
Styles was hollering something about calameri; Mancuso was shouting above the
din not to shoot the creature -- not to kill it. Tia looked up at the
forward view
screen and jumped in fright as an enormous tentacle slammed against the
glass; the creature's many suckers oozed a sticky, thick, yellow pus-like
fluid to aid in its adherence to the glass. Her stomach writhed in digust;
it would be quite some time before Tia Sloan Ryan enjoyed any seafood.
And she came to Cousteau at the behest of her family to be safer? Tia
wondered.
...sim action paused in the middle of the squid's attack. Perhaps after
escaping from the clutches of this giant sea creature Ms. Ryan will have an
opportunity to file a proper duty log!

Now he talked to Flipper....Or a relative cousin. Styles was about to go
out to face the squid when Star told him she was pregnant. Not good timing!
He shook his head in shock. Ron hopped out of the shuttle and dove into the
water. He was being chased by squid children. He dropped his comm badge and
one of the "kids" scooped it up. Styles spotted a cave and swan inside for
shelter. He swam out and onto a small land
surface and looked around. All he saw were squid eggs. The mother was just
protecting her young! Telepathically, he contacted his wife and had her relay
a message to Mancuso about the squid. He dove back into the water and swam to
the mother. Ron mind-melded with the creature and "talked" to it. He learned
about mind-melding and how to do it from his cousin, Martin. Martin is
half-Vulcan. After the "talk", a baby squid gave Ron his comm badge back
and he emergency beamed back to the shuttle. From there, he dried off and
told the team about what he found out. The shuttle zoomed back to the outpost
where when everyone left the shuttle, Ron made a joke about squid. Tia became
the new CMO and his wife, Star, became AMO. Ron was thrilled for her. After
all.....Thrilling runs in the family. <g>

Executive Officer, OPC
Vantar IV
I have just spent the past few hours chatting with Captain Surak and
Lieutenant Smith discussing the sudden rise in cloaking technology in our
little area of the Beta quadrant, probably originating with the Dentari. It
was decided that we would send a covert team from OPC to try to find out
where the technology is coming from and that Mandy would be one of the two
OPC operatives that would be sent in. I then argued that, due to her
"condition" that
Kit should not be considered for the other spot, at which point I argued that
I was the best qualified to accompany Mandy.
It was only al bit more discussion that the Captain then dismissed Mandy and
I knew what was coming. Delegation. I know that I am just one of many but for
this task I felt, and still feel, that I am the best qualified for the
mission. However, we tentatively decided upon Nick as the other member of
this covert operation. The Captain still wanted to discuss Scooter's
suggestion of sending Nikki in, which in my mind is a non-starter of a
suggestion.
In any case, I took my "dressing down" pretty well and Dante and I have
agreed to go fishing which should help us in building a closer relationship
and ultimately a more unified command front here at OPC. Perhaps I can get
him to change his mind and send me.

RE: Zoological Survey Report.
Vantar IV is a very active planet in zoological terms. In the completed
survey by the science teams Zeta, Beta and Gamma which worked the whole
planet in the last weeks we have found a lot more species wise than was
anticipated. Both aquatic and land animals are bountiful. It would be too
difficult to detail all species in this report so I will give count numbers
by ecological environments.
Land:
Biped: 25 species for a total of 5000 individuals.
Quadrupeds: 195 species for a total of 75000 individuals.
Insectoid: 1500 species for an approximate total of 9.5 million
individuals
Air:
Flight Capable-150 species for a total of 150000 individuals.
Water:
Fish: 900 species (each with 5 or 6 variants) total of 1.5 million
individuals.
Crustaceans: 600 species( each with 9 or 10 variants) 1.25 million
individuals.
Amphibians: 400 species( each with 8 or 9 variants) 1.05 million
individuals.
Mammalian: 100 species for a total of 500000 individuals.
Reptilian Aquatic: 1 for a total of 2
I must inform that the numbers are strictly to mature individuals.
Newborns and young's of each species range from 2 to 1 million per species,
being the mammalian emulators the lower and the Insectoid the higher. in the
evolutionary scale there are not so many aberrations and mutations in the DNA
strains of all the ecosystems, Vantar IV is also a very healthy planet.
On a somber note we did find out the reason for the Blue Parrot and
Golden Swisher population drop. Indiscriminate fishing (taking young fish and
pregnant females) is one cause and Over Fishing is the other cause for these
very important and indigenous species
to be reaching dangerous low levels. The swishers are the main staple meal
of more than half of Vantar IV's other aquatic species. The loss if the
Swishers would place in an extremely dangerous famine all of the ocean life
of the planet.
Suggestions for alleviating such ecological disaster are forthcoming
from the science department and are as follow:
1) New fishing regulations for fish size and sex. ( Swisher females are easy
to spot, they have a huge central fin compared to the small fin of the
males.)
2) Egg hatcheries and artificial nurseries should be established, using
these fish as food staples rather and the open ocean fish.
3) There are 4 other types of edible fish in the Vantar Oceans, these should
be tried for acceptance and also farmed artificially.
With this I close the zoological survey and inform that the Flora Survey
will commence in 10 days.

precisely when the USS Desiderata would be away form the Outpost. I will be
asking Lieutenant Kya to investigate that issue. I also hope to be able to
contact LtJg Smith and see if she can dig something up without blowing her

The Dentari seemed to be targeting the civilian population. This seems
odd. The logical means for attacking a planet would be to attack the military
installations first and the civilian targets after the defenses have been
neutralized.
Casualties amongst the civilians was light due to the evacuation to the
Emergency Civil Defense Shelters. However, damage to buildings and structures
is fairly heavy. Exact details on casualties and damage assessments are
sketchy as the reports are still coming in.

I have contacted the official Dentari government. President Rynor T'Chu

Dr. Ryan looked up wearily from the PADD, her eyes red and tired, strained
from both the bright lights and concentration required while performing fine
surgical techniques. The attack had commenced over twelve hours ago and in
that elapsed time Tia had sutured and severed more arteries and major organs
than she cared to think about. Rubbing her forehead, as if to do so would
somehow forestall her oncoming headache, Tia sighed and forced
herself to continue.
^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^
Ensign Meades - severed right arm; arm successfully reattached; prognosis:
good; will need ongoing regenerative nerve therapy
Liuetenant Peders - class two head punture wound from flying scrapnel;

Lieutenant Junior Grade Carver - premature labor brought on by stress;
miscarried four month old fetus; surgery required to abort fetus, as mother
went into shock; prognosis: good; will require further surgery to restore
patient's fertility due to fallopian tube damage.
^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^
Tia threw the PADD down, allowing it to clatter noisely to her desk. All of
these injuries, so many injuries. For what? So that one set of peoples may
exert their might over another? Planetside or in a starship? What did it
matter? Humanity of any kind would always ultimately struggle to survive,
then to conqueror and rule.
Tia felt her stomach knot in on itself. She was sick -- just plain sick of
the death and destruction that now littered the HealthBay. Every bed, every
bay, every room was filled to overflowing. Civilians that had been treated
for minor wounds and then released were being pressed into service, where
ever a doctor or a nurse needed an extra hand. Many just held the hands the
frightend and in pain as they waited their turn to receive treatment.
All the wizardry and magic of technology itself could not stay the pain when
the hypos ran out and the med replicators couldn't keep up - the demand far
outweighing the supply several times. Bones could be knit and mended easily,
but the soft tissues of a lung torn open, a belly exposed, or a cardaic
muscle arresting from stress itself -- could not be so easily dealt with.
The patient's prognosis often depended on the first aid received on site
before transport to HealthBay.
"Doctor Ryan! Doctor Ryan!"
Again an alarmed voice rang out above the din, as a doctor or nurse panicked
and called out for help, wanting some advice on what to do--some reassurance
that they were doing everything they could--someone like the CMO to tell them
everything had already been done that could be done--someone else to make
that fateful decision for them--staying the inviteable, when the doctor must
say, "enough... he's [she's] gone..."
Tia left her office, with her unfinished report still waiting for her on the
PADD. Cursing the jealousies and selfishness of humanoids in general, she
knew that little had changed in centuries of evolution. Men still killed men
for money, for power, for land. Doctors still worked to save the injured, so
that they'd live to fight another day. Only the weapons of war had changed.

"I think we need to share Lt Smith's information with Lt. Cmdr. Scott.."
"Sir, I object this information needs to be guarded!" Casey replied on
automatic pilot.
"Colonel...Apply logic to the situation..."
"What does logic have to do with anything?"
"Well..." Surak said raising his eyebrow, "Let's say I am the
collaborator. You would obviously need Commander Scott's help in catching me.
Or what if you are the collaborator. I would want Scott on my side if I had
to haul you in...And if it is Scott, he's in to deep with the Dentari to back
out now. We'd be able to catch him even if he knows we're on to him..."
"But Captain!"
"He's a member of the command staff and until we have hard evidence to
indicate otherwise, we need to treat him as we normally would."
"If that is your order sir...but my log will reflect that I disagree with
this action," Casey replied, not wanting to back down.
"Do what you must Colonel, as will I," Surak said as he turned to leave.
~~This is going to rip a nasty gash into our command effectivness~~, he
thought using the legendary Vulcan Gift for understatement.
~~Maybe that was a little over the edge~~ Casey thought wondering why he
was so adamant about his position.

Keldar's Duty Log 9812.09
Lt. Keldar reporting...after a brief skirmish on another run to try and find
the headquarters of the resistence movement, and some rather...unique flying
by a certain pilot, we managed to make it safely back to the outpost. I
installed some upgraded internal dampers, to help compensate for the
recklessness of the driver. Hopefully they will last more than one parsec.
On a personal note, my chief has taken a leave, leaving me in charge of
engingeering now. Im not certain wether to be really greatful, or hopelessly
depressed. Of course, now I have more control, more leverage, but I will miss
the chief. Luckily, she is not far away, and I seemed to have developed a
taste for snail juice, which hopefully she'll keep stocked.
Ens. Lou and Ens. Bob, were tremendous in what they did during the battle,
and I look forward to working with them some more. But perhaps, I should also
mention to Capt. Surak about possibly getting some more help in here....just
in case.
Another personal addition, after a unexpected journey, I have come across
some data that I will be delivering to the science dept. It involves a
planet that is located somewhere in the Delta quadrant, and there the Marquis
are stirring......END LOG

Egyptonia, I believe that was the name and what Im putting in my report. From
my experiences, it was very hot, very dry, and very bright. A ferengi could
never get any work done on a planet like that. Give me good ole wet
Ferenginar any day. After Nikki and myself, arrived there, and I composed
myself, I was able to get my tricorder to record various landmarks,
and other data. Only picture turned out and I am including it in my report.
Something there, either the heat, brightness, perhaps the radiation caused
the tricorder to malfunction. Some of the other data came through though, I
did manage to salvage the data that shows the Marquis are clearly in the
area.
According to Counselor LeNaud, we were somewhere in the Delta Quadrant, so
what Starfleet wants to do with this information is up to them.

***Posted to secured channel, to Starfleet command only***
I returned from my undercover mission in one piece, barely, but unfortunately
I have to report I didn't hear from Lt.Jg. Nick Elliot at the appointed
rendezvous. I think the Dentari Liberation group may have gotten him. I
believe they were tipped off by the traitor we are trying to under cover on
OPC. The information of the possible DLC sympathizer and Starfleet traitor
was delivered to the CO and XO. I am currently setting up covert
surveillance
of the command staff of OPC. More detailed reports to follow as information
is gathered.

::OPEN LOG::
".....Some crew members from Starbase 543 have arrived for a week of "Rest
and Relaxation", aboard the Danube class Runabout, USS Savangah. Even though
there is a traitor amongst the OPC command staff, the drive of tourism
remains unstoppable....
Starfleet Command has sent us 30 Tachyon Probes. These probes, when
deployed will form a "cloak detecting net". The early warning that this would
provide would help emensly in adding to our ability to defend the planet.
On a less ominous note, former Chief Engineer Elan De Marco has created
a proposal for saving the ecological integrity of Nautilus Bay. Her plan is
to re-route most commercial traffic to Neptune's Grotto. The proposal is
dated several days ago, which would explain why I found the PADD underneath
the sofa in my office.... I have approved the proposal and have made
arrangements with our Public Affairs and Legal staff to add the changes into
the

I have begun my tour of duty on this outpost and have found the staff to be
an
interesting group so far. The Captain, Surak, and his XO, Elias, have
impressed
me with their command over the crew and their ability to run the outpost. I
think
I have found a good place to serve. Commander Scott was actually running the
ship we took to find the enemy base and I was impressed by his ability to use
the gifts of each crewmember to accomplish the mission objective. All in all
I
have been very impressed by this assigment so far. We are still trying to
resolve
the issue at hand of the enemy base but, at the least, we have given them a
nice
bloody nose to deal with. We encountered one of their ships and did some
heavy damage to it. I hope this is enough to at least make them reconsider
any
aggression towards us. Another interesting thing happened when Scott drug me
to a meeting with a few of the officers while we were off duty. I was
surprised to
see the induction ceremony they had prepared for new crewmembers but the good
news was that I was able to keep up with the activities without injuring
myself too
much. I'm still not sure what this Blue Stuff was that Surak kept handing me
but
it left it's mark. I have also been invited to a few of the local hang outs.
There is
some new great sounding bar called Finn's place. I need to check that out.

After the recent "incident" involving the form Lt. Commander Scott, I believe
a new round of psych. evaluations are required.
Several of the crew maybe having less than happy feelings at being betrayed

The Doors Are Open For Business
Duty Log, Elana de Marco
SD9812.14
Jake Collet wiped down the bar as his boss walked over to the antique
Wurlitzer and tapped a few buttons. Moments later, the opening riffs of Eric
Clapton's "Further on Down the Road" (wav attached) filled the bar area, and
Elana turned to face the bigass Cajun, smiling.
Jake's bright white smile stood out against his dark skin as he smiled.
"Hope you's got those noise buffers turned on." He shook the glass he was
polishing at her.
"Of course, Jake, don't you worry." Elana grinned, walking over to the bar
and fishing a pretzel out of one of the bowls set there. Her footsteps on the
wood floor were lost under the music. "I was the one who petitioned to move
all the tourism business over to the Grotto; the last thing I'm gonna do is
alienate my neighbors." She munched contentedly on the salty snack, and Jake
pushed a seltzer water with lime across the bar to her. Nodding her
thanks, she picked it up, sipping at it as she made a last inspection of the
place.
Dejan Toups stuck his bald head out of the swinging kitchen doors and looked
around for Elana. He and Jake were boyhood friends, having grown up together
in New Orleans and worked together in many well-known restaurants in the
city. Toups was one of the finest seafood and Cajun cooks to be had; Jake
tended bar.
"Elle!" His thick bayou accent made it sound more like "Ahle." "Ah finally
got me the okra, now you can puts ze gumbo and jambalya on the menu." He
smiled, and brought out a tray, which had a neatly prepared soup bowl and a
larger, deep plate, both filled with headily fragrant, spicy food, setting it
on the bar.
"Smells great."
"Damn straight. Finest on de bayooo." He tossed a spoon to her and she
caught it as she walked over.
She tasted the gumbo first and Mmm-mmmm'ed in contentment. "Awesome, Dejan,
another killer recipe." She tasted the jambalaya next, cracking open one of
the half-dozen crawfish that graced the plate. "Incredible." Elle smiled.
"These'll have to be specials of the day until I get menu reprints."
She gulped the seltzer down as Dejan returned to the kitchen, and Jake
finished setting the glasses up in the rack. Elana sat on one of the
barstools, looking around for a moment.
There was one main room at Finn's Place, and a smaller private party room
that could accomodate twenty. The massive mirrored bar dominated one end of
the room, with a large piece of peach-colored branch coral in the center,
bottles spreading to both sides. A dozen stools lined the bar. Various sized
tables and booths were scattered around the room. Swinging doors at either
end of the bar led back into the kitchen, storerooms, and to Elle's office. A
door to the side led back to the commstation and the bathrooms. There was
enough space for a small dancefloor up by the row of French-style doors that
spilled out onto the decks. A tiny stage was in one corner. The walls were
made of a mid-tone weathered wood, decorated with pictures of local divers,
boats, divesites, and diving momentoes.
Outside, the deck wrapped around three sides of the building, with heatlamps
and blue-and-white striped awnings in place for cooler nights. Cousteau was
in the subtropical regions of Vantar, however, so Elana didn't expect to get
much use out of the heaters. The awnings would be useful on hot days as well.
There was six spots for boats to tie up, for dockside service, and sound
inhibiters installed along the entraceway to the restaurant kept too
much of the noise from travelling over to the residential area.
Elana looked over at Jake, pushing the tray over to him. She put the spoon
down. "Save that for me for later, I have to go drum us up some business."
She grabbed the stack of flyers off the end of the bar, and headed up to the
colony and Outpost.

"We have had an interesting devolopment at the outpost recently. One of our
own, actually my commanding officer, has decided to leave us. He has been
labeled a traitor by our staff and I haven't really gotten all of the facts
together
yet. He did escape us by grabbing a shuttlecraft and running. I'm not too
sure where he's heading or what he's doing but I know his leaving has awoken
the command to a major problem. I'm a little nervous about what I might find
as I look around. I have taken the time to change all of the command
passwords
and such for the Tactical station. I have also sent an alert to the security
wing
and Captain Surak to make sure that they follow the same plans as I. I can't
think of anything more dangerous than a traitor retaining the ability to get
into our
systems. Hopefully this takes care of everything."
"I have set a meeting with the entire Tac staff to go over what has happened
and
how to avoid any future occurences. Maybe we can prevent something like this
from
happening again. I think the computer is now locked out but I have a few
officers
going through to make sure he didn't create a back way in. We'll know more
pretty soon. Let's all pray that this ends all of the problems. As the new
Department Head of Tactical I guess this is what I have to be careful of."

Lt. Mandelia Smith Duty log SD9812.19
This week was a difficult one. The results of my undercover work has come to
fruition, unfortunately in the form of finding out that our own Cmdr. Scott
was the sympathizer.
The security department set up a sting operation <we only had the phasers set
on stun I swear...it really only would have "stung">. It was a difficult
situation as we were not sure which of the 4 officers in command was the
traitor.
The Commander however got away Scott free <::waits for groans to die down::>.
He will be tracked and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law I am sure.
For now many people who know him well feel a sense of betrayal and hurt.
Hopefully this will not effect the level of trust the crew has for one
another. Counselor Nikki is conducting psych evals to monitor the crew and
their reactions to the current situation.

"...This week has been quiet. After Scott's retreat, the Outpost Engineers
were able to restore all systems to 100% operating efficiency in a short
amount of time. I have kept the Outpost on a Planet Wide Yellow Alert, for
prudence sake.
I have removed all of Lt. Commander Scott's command codes and clearances
and have ordered the creation of a joint Security-Engineering task force to
sweep the entire Outpost for further signs of tampering. Scott is a long term
planner and I wouldn't be surprised if he left a few "presents" for us to
discover.
Counselor LeNaud's psychology evaluations are almost completed. She has
collect and organize the data yet, but early indications are that the crew is
in a "low morale cycle". After this incident, that is understandable.
Lieutenant DeMarco, after retiring, has opened a restaurant called
Finn's Place. I have reserved the restaurant for a Holiday Fiesta for the
Outpost Crew. It is my hope that this will help to restore some cheer to the
crew.... "

The Botanical Survey has just begun. There are 15 teams of officers

survey in a more efficient way. It is an estimate but the timetable says
that the survey will conclude phase 1 in 10 days. With a catalog and total

With only 15% of the territory surveyed and cataloged there are:
A) 15000 types of Small leaf plants

C) 2000 types of Flowering plants
D) 1000 types of Evergreens

open log.....LtKeldar here. Officially as of 9812.20 I have become the chief
of engineering. It was sort of unexpected but at least as chief I have the
authority to move everything down so its more at my level. Let the tall ones
stoop if they must but this way I can reach it easily and thats what matters,
right?
We had a party a few days ago....some hu-man tradition that seemed like the
prerequistes were give stuff away and get drunk. The drunk stuff I could
handle no problem. Giving stuff away? That just seems morally wrong.
On a more darker sinister note. LtcmdrScott turned traitor and left us, and
me personally with a reminder of his evilness. I'm sure hes still around
somewhere where the scum of life exists. He will get whats coming to him. I
have upped the scanning output, and started rotating frequencies so as to get
a more complete scan of the areas around the outpost. There is a personal
reason in this but I figure with the Dentari around its good for the outpost
too.

Chief of Engineering's Log Lt. Keldar speaking.
Ever since Elana's "retirement" things in engineering have gone pretty
smoothly. Still the CPO's miss the ole chief and so does her Ace. I guess
they aren't used to looking to a Ferengi for orders.
Hopefully soon we will get more help down here, for although its quiet here
now...with everything that has happened before...we will need some sort of
experience besides myself here. If anything were to happen to me.....well
maybe Elana would come back, or stay until they found a replacement.
Of course, I don't plan on anything happening to me, but the universe is a
vast place, and one can never be to sure what will happen from one moment ot
the next.
I also will have to have a talk with the Captain about new quarters for
Counselor LeNaud and myself. After our wedding... well the quarters we have
will need to be bigger if we are to live together. For one thing she has
furniture her size, and well then I have stuff my size.
There have been no out of the ordinary blips or readings from the scanners
the past week, so maybe the Dentrai and ... have given up. Heres hoping....
at least for now.
Peace can only last so long....and then it becomes unprofitable

"Computer, open a duty log. Trent reporting. I've spent the last few days
digging through the computers for all the info I can find on the Starfleet
Rangers. I'm looking over the staffing and the required training as I log
this.
There's going to be a lot of work ahead but I think it will pay off. Elana
has
taken a LOA from the Fleet so I have removed her from the roster for now.
I do want to check in with her to see if she might be available on an
emergency status. I could also use her help in training and briefing
Rangers.
She seems to have the most experience out of everyone I've come across.
On the Tactical side we are in good shape. All crewmembers are
performing well. We did seem to have a few episodes after Commander
Scott left. A few of the crewmembers were known to be a little 'over
aggressive', resulting in a fight breaking out and a small phaser burn on
a shuttlecraft. It's minor really... you can barely see it. The crewmembers
involved have been put on report and set up for counseling sessions to
get through whatever frustration they're facing. Had it been up to me I
would have just told them to take a couple of days off and beat the heck
out of something in the holodeck, but that's just me.
As of now all systems are running at nominal and I have not had
a crewmember incident in over a week. I guess that's a good thing.
Trent out."

Building A Mystery
personal log
Lt.Keldar
Keldar turned to see Nikki grab her bat'leth, and lean into a defensive
stance, as some of the guests began to rush them. Then he felt the familiar
tingle as a transporter beam took him away. His last glance was of Nikki just
turning to him and then it vanished.
The cold and unfeelingness soon was replaced by a blinding light that
pierced into Keldar's brain. Shutting his eyes to the brightness, he felt his
body shiver from the coolness in the air. Squinting down he realized his
uniform and personal garments had been left behind at the outpost. Quickly he
glanced around, wondering what had happened exactly, and where the hell was
he now?
Looking at the area by him, Keldar realized that he was inside a metallic
shaped room. There were no windows, no doors, no outlines of any kind. It
looked like a big piece of metal molded into a box, with Keldar on the
inside. Nothing was inside the room either, it was bare except for himself.
Starting to feel self-conscious, Keldar made his way over to one of the
nearby walls and hunkered down against it. The surface offered little
reassurance and
comfort. It was cool and unfeeling, uncaring.
Straining his ears, trying to hear anything, anything that would help him
establish what his location was, but only silence met him in return.
Then without warning, the room darkened and Keldar had to strain to see his
hand in front of his face. A garbled voice met his ears, it was computer
enhanced and basically unrecognizable.
ENJOY YOUR STAY FOR NOW, KELDAR OF FERINGINAR. IT WILL NOT BE PLEASANT FOR
LONG, OR THIS ENJOYABLE.
A maniacal laughter met his ears as he cowered in fear for his life. His
spirit which was so high at the wedding, shrank and hid, and a chill filled
his soul. His mind screamed, 'It's K'lotha you are doomed!' and another
quieter voice whispered to him 'It's Scott, he's come back to exact his
vengeance on you for stealing Nikki.'
Keldar just entered a fetal position and silently whispered, "I'm sorry
Nikki...I...love you."
