Duty Log
Ensign Ian Raoul Hooley
Acting Assistant Chief Engineering Officer
ISS Reciprocity, NX-25677

The Reciprocity had a very good mission. As we were departing from Oranda
One, the crew had gathered in the Crank Shaft to have a ceremony. It seems
that Dr. Fvielrolh Cha'Riuurren or Rolly as I know him, was deemed fit to be
promoted to the rank of Commander and also to the post of Executive Officer.
During the festiviites, we received a distress call. I did not personally see
it as I was working with First Lieutenant Jason Phyerspin in
Engineering. I had asked him to check the EPS Manifold on Deck 52 as I worked
on fixing that darned impulse drive. More to come as progress continues.

Fellow Reciprocitans:
It is my solemn duty as XO of our great vessel to inform you it is that
dreaded time again: the Federation Council is sending out the horrendous
document known as a census, in order to find out how many sentient critters
live on its starships. Please take the time to peruse this
bureaucratic....er....document, filling out the various answers....as you see
fit.
More importantly, in honor of this Census for the Year 2400, the command
staff of the Reciprocity is requesting new biographies of ship personnel,
including, where possible, pictures of the crewmen. These, er, likenesses can
be sent in as drawings or even shamelessly taken off the web [as I intend to
do]. The Reci's elite command staff will shortly send out a communique with
the proper biography forms for the new millenium. Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,
Dr. Fveirrolh Cha'Riuurren, a.k.a. "Rolly", XO, ISS Reciprocity

ISS Reciprocity
Reporting: Lt. Cmdr. Cannon Hawke

The Reciprocity slid silently through the dangerous Ianda Nebula to quickly
cut the distance between them and an unknown alien vessel which was attacked
by the Aslan Heirate. The Aslan Heirate, the so-called "Dark Ones" bent on
the recovery of a mystical "Vordock," has been rampaging throughout the Gamma
Quadrant in search of it, as well as destroying everything in its way. Now
as our heroes emerge from the nebula under
cloak, they discover the true extent of the Aslan's destructive power! The
large alien ship is in shambles, and their life pods are scattered all about.
Search ships and mines are spread around, as the Reci watches from a
distance....
To be continued next week!

Congratulations to Voya Blanclain-Teris for her promotion to Lieutenant,
Junior Grade. AND she's getting married to Ensign Hooley, May 5th! Congrats
to Koroth for his promotion to Gawi'Sogh (First Lieutenant)! And congrats to
Cannon Hawke (me!) for his promo to Lt. Cmdr.!

Duty Log
Lt. Cmdr. Cannon Hawke
Chief Intelligence Officer
Stardate 20005.06
ISS Reciprocity

We run currently in condition black, maintaining total communication silence
and major systems dampened for maximum effectiveness of cloak. However, in
this condition, passive scanners, long range sensors, and other information
gathering systems must be disabled. Nevertheless, I have gathered the
following in our current situation:
a) Mines
Similar to the class-d mines used by the Breen during the Dominion War, these
mines are not cloaked, but rather, disguised to look as space debris and
wreckage. They use a type-6 computer mainframe, a simple system that runs
reliablely and is difficult to disarm. The manuvering thrusters are capable,
but not limited to, maneuvering up to 700 km per hour. The mines will move
at ships at the maximum range of about 100 km.
b) Search pods, Aslan
About 4 meters in length, they have been confirmed as Aslan. No maximum
speed as been determined, but they have been observed at 500 km per hour.
None has been observed in warp. It is undetermined if they have cloaking
ability. Weapons unconfirmed. As observed from their paths and manuvers,
they know where the mines are.
c) Escape pods, unknown race
3 meters in length, they have been confirmed as from the alien ship. Their
maximum speed as been determined as 200 km per hour, we minimal
maneuverability. They are without weapons, warp capability, or cloaking
capability. It is unknown if they are aware of the mines.

ISS Reciprocity
Reporting: LtCmdr. Cannon Hawke

The ISS Reciprocity silently moved through the mine and debris field,
cloaked, towards the dreadful Aslan Heirate. But, while in Condition Black,
it could not rescue the escape pods from the alien ship attacked by the
Aslan. The escape pods were not given a chance as the mines homed into them.
Nevertheless, Counselor Ellahandra soon discovered that the "Vordock," the
Aslan were looking for was an important religious artifact. In a bold move,
Captain Android ordered for the Reci to be decloaked, and hailed the Aslan
ships. He announced that he would help look for the "Vordock."

LtJg. Voya Banclain-Teris and Ens. Ian Raoul Hooley were wed on this date.
Congratulations, and may you live out your lives together in bliss. On a
different note, Koroth Gawi'Sogh has regretfully resigned from the Reci.
We'll miss you, and your legend will live with us forever.

The Reciprocity made it through the Nebula with minimal structural damage
although a number of internal systems were not running at 100%.
Additionally, the ship was running in Condition Black which precluded the use
of passive scanners and long range sensors. LtCmdr Hawke was able to provide
us with basic information on the mines and probes of the Aslan and the escape
pods of the unidentified vessel. We arrived to a scene straight out of
Dante's
Inferno....the alien vessel destroyed, escape pods floating dead or being
caught by mines. KorotH and Spin were working on building a probe of our
own..one that would match the signature of the Aslan probes and would avoid
detection by being covered with Aslan mine debris.
During this time, Counselor Ellahandra discovered that the Vordock the Aslans
are seeking, is of great religious significance to them. Based of this
information, Cpt Android has ordered the ship uncloaked and has broken radio
silence in an attempt to make contact with these beings. ::stops and closes

"The Lazy Renegade"

Vaughn sat in his room....he was happy for Voya, he really was, that wasn't
the problem....the marriage made him miss Angel...a lot. He didn't really
want to think about her now though. He wanted nothing more than to die...but
he was too stubborn, so he just kept on living...the unstoppable beast. He
remembered the Ultra Renegades Wars, when the Diamond Sword had rebelled.
+_+_+_+_+_+_+_+_+_+_+_+_+_+_+_+_+_+_+_+_+_+_+_+_+_+_+_+_+_+_+
...A nervous young Vaughn sat quietly in his battle armor...familiar with his
UltraRenegade battle suit. More weapons, faster, unlimited jets, more armor,
and more armor...more death. A man could level a lot of a city with
this...and they gave one to him...why?
"Lock'n'load you slobs!" screamed the jumpmaster as the Hawk-Class Duster
skimmed the ground and jettisoned her thinking, violent cargo.
It kicked into a bank, a roll...and blew up. They saw the bullets fly
through the air, fired by IX-2000's and then, the battle was engaged. Vaughn
called his squad to him, and they each slammed a 'Booster and headed for the
enemy base.
"G-Launchers boys and girls," he called, hearing the snick of armed grenade
launchers behind him.
He salvoed ten or so through the main entrance, watching as one of his women
fired a ForceField Buster through the back entrance to REALLY clear it.
Vaughn switched over to his Mayhem rifle, even though it's ammunition was
most precious. He slid through the entrance at an angle, firing by habit, it
hit the turret mounted in the ceiling. The turret blew to pieces. There had
been two men standing at the end of the hallway, now there just two pairs
of combat boots. Enough of this precision junk.
He flicked his comm switch, "Weapons free people, use whatever you want, but
don't blow up a SuperNova mate, alright?"
He heard a chorus of aye's. Vaughn switched to plasma guns with triple fire
canisters. One must understand something about the plasma gun. The canister
contains reaction mass, or water, which is super heated, and upon contact
with the air, which contains oxygen, it explodes into a ball of flame. It's
designers always that someone using it would only carry thirty-five rounds;
the UltraRenegades version holds three hundred fifty. Triple fire
canisters is a canister with three compartments. Three compartments, three
plasma balls. Vaughn poked the gun through a firing slit and pulled the
trigger, and heard the sounds of burning armor. He jetted across the room
firing a large burst, creating a firestorm near the bases power supplies.
And so he continued with the carnage, finally he ordered all sixty of his
remaining men, out of eighty, to meet in the base's main chamber.
"Bossman," called out Sean, his Sergeant Major,"now what?"
Suddenly, everyone heard the snicks of the charging handles of at least a
hundred Mayhem rifles being pulled and another motley assortment of
projectile weapons, plasma, blaster, ForceField Buster, mortar, grenade
launcher, and EMP Rockets. Now they were in trouble.
"So, Militant-Archon Vaughn Zeddicus Sel'Enir, now you lose!"
"Wai-!" called Vaughn.
"Now!" called the Voice.
Hiss. Boom. Scream. Click-click-click-click. Whoosh. So the one-sided
battle went. The Diamond Sword lived. His men died.....but the Diamond
Sword made a crucial mistake, they assumed Vaughn was dead.
+_+_+_+_+_+_+_+_+_+_+_+_+_+_+_+_+_+_+_+_+_+_+_+_+_+_+_+_+_+_+
Vaughn awoke screaming, curled up in a ball on the floor, clutching at his
scars. Now they were scars, then...they were...

Captain's Log, Stardate 60005.14

I have made a bold move, I hope it was not unwise.

These Aslan Searchers that scour the wreckage of the Unidentified Aliens'
craft and pods would not be as dangerous as encountering one of their
battleships, so it is a calculated risk ... a gamble.

Of course, I have no way of knowing if there might be one of their
battleships keeping station immediately adjacent to the Reciprocity using
their highly advanced cloaking system. For all I know there could be more
than one ... even dozens ... hundreds! thousands! millions! bil- eh, anyway
... there is no way for me to know as we haven't managed to decipher their
cloaking signatures yet.

But for us to remain cloaked while the Searchers and their Mines sought out
and destroyed the Unidentified Aliens in their escape pods would not have
been the correct course of action, that much is obvious. We could not aid
them while hiding from the Aslans.

When Ella ... that is, Lieutenant Roletta, Ship's Counselor ... when she
managed to get through the fear being emitted by the Aliens, she detected the
driving emotion of the Aslans, and it was not hatred or belligerent
conquering. What she detected was reverence. She determined that this
"Vordock" the Aslans seek is something the Aslans view as "holy." And that
it had been stolen.

With this new insight on their behavior, I feel perhaps we can assist them,
rather than fight them. It is with this intention I've ordered us to decloak
and open communications.

While tracking the path taken by the Aslan vessel, we intercepted a distress

with passengers and under attack by smugglers. The smugglers small fleet was
commanded by a Captain Gorotha of the SS Ain't None of Your Beeswax.
Our sensors showed the cargo vessel to have developed a warp core leak. It's
captain was agreeable to accepting our assistance. An away team consisting
of myself and Spin under the command of Hawke, beamed over. As soon as the
AT was transported, the smugglers attacked the Reciprocity and beamed a
platoon of poorly trained fighters to the cargo ship. As the Reciprocity
made short work of the smugglers craft, the AT engaged the enemy on board
Deliverance. Spin attempted a warp core patch but was ::coughcough:: forced
to eject the core. The AT was hampered in efforts to eradicate the enemy
because of the presence of many civilians onboard. A second AT lead by
Cha'Sturek arrived to reinforce our defensive capabilities and the smugglers
where neutralized in short order. Repairs to the Deliverance were completed
by the Engineering department and both the Deliverance and the Reciprocity
continued on their separate missions.

ISS Reciprocity
Reporting: Lt. Cmdr. Cannon Hawke

Responding to a distress call, the ISS Reciprocity under Acting CO Rolly,
dashed to the rescue. With three smuggler ships attacking a helpless
freighter, the Reci charged in to assist. But the freighter, under the
pounding stress of the smugglers' weapons, has developed a warp core leak!
In a risky move, the Reci sends down an away team in the mist of battle,
consisting of Hawke, Phyerspin, and KDaana. The smugglers, already having
sent down
boarding parties, desperately tired to fight off the trio, unsucessfully.
Meanwhile, the Reci fights off the last of the smuggler ships, under the
expert piloting and firing of Cha'Sturek. Soon enough the last of the
smugglers were decisively beaten, and the freighter's warp core ejected.
Once again, the Reciprocity and its gallant crew saves the day!

Cheif Intel Officer, 2O
Stardate 20005.23
ISS Reciprocity

Responding to a distress call, we encountered the SS Deliverance under
attacked by three fast, light starships. Sensors detected heavy weapons,
high sub-light speed, and light armor. Warp signitures and physical
characteristics resembling those of the Orion blockade runners. Upon further
examination, only one of those three were registered. The registered one was
to a Amelia Richards, a 79- year old retiree living on Eadas IV who
enjoys the company of cats. The ship itself was suppost to be a planetary
sanitation barge, its manuverablility potential incapable of even making a
turn the moon.
After breif communication and only hostile threats from the intruders, we
engaged in offensive action. Shortly into battle, the Deliverance's warp
core became unstable after heavy damage to engines. Full evacuation of the
freighter impossible, Cmdr. Rolly ordered an away team to help with the core.
I lead the team consisting of Phyerspin and KDaana to the Deliverance.
Upon arrival, we discovered the smugglers had already sent their boarding
teams. Although the smugglers were no match for the illusive Phyerspin and
the ferocity of KDaana, a bitter close-quarters combat ensued. We quickly
made our way to engineering, where we were able to hold off the horde of
smugglers while Spin ejects the core. With the core ejected, but an army of
smugglers still aboard, a second assult team under Cha'Sturek arrived at the
freighter. After a struggle, the remaining pirates were captured and our
currently held under custody.
In the skirmish, we recieved only one casualty: an Ensign Kenny Redshirt was
fatally wounded in the battle for the freighter. No other fatalities or
injuries occured among the assult teams, but Lt. KDaana recieved minor
injuries and refused medical treatment.

Captain Adam Android, CO
ISS Reciprocity (ISS Heinlein)

Adam had decided at the last minute to take his Captain's Yacht into the
destruction left by the Aslans. It was much smaller and more maneuverable
than the Reciprocity, and would not risk as many lives. He took with him
only a small Security Team, hand picked by Hawke and Sel'Enir, and boarded
his Yacht, the ISS Heinlein, and left the safety of the Reciprocity's cloak.

Shortly after he'd pulled out of the Hangar, the Reciprocity picked up
another distress call, and Dr. Riuurren ordered her to follow up. Neither
the Romulan Doctor nor the Android Captain wanted another scene like the one
they had before them.

As the Reciprocity moved off, still cloaked, Adam turned his attention to the
growing circle of Aslan Searchers that were centering on the Heinlein. He
opened hailing frequencies, "Greetings. I am Captain Adam Android of the ISS
Heinlein. May we be of assistance?"

The usual reply came from the Aslans, "Surrender the Vordock or be
destroyed!"

Adam calmly answered, "I do not have your Vordock. But I will aid you in
finding it."

Silence was his only reply. He waited patiently, as only an android can.
Finally an Aslan appeared on his viewscreen. It was very tall, at least nine
feet, and seemed to be covered in a chitaneous shell, much like the insects
of Earth. But it was humanoid in that it stood erect, had two arms and two
legs, and a single head. But it's face was not humanoid at all. It had
three very large multi-faceted eyes. A reed-like protuberance in the center
of its face vibrated and the Universal Translator kicked in. "How is it that
you would aid us?"

The android stood before the enormous, armored alien and said, "What would
you have us do?"

The Aslan buzzed and clicked with another Aslan off-screen. The Translator
did not translate as it appeared to be a private exchange. Then the speaker
announced, "You will help us to track the Vordock. You have advanced sensor
capabilities."

Adam smiled, "Certainly! May I invite you aboard? You must provide us with
the parameters of the search ..."

The Aslan said, "Absolutely not! No Aslan will board another's ship! You
will come here." Then the commlink was interrupted. There was a shimmer of
some type of transporter beam, and the Captain was gone.

heavily armored and heavily armed Aslans. (Aslans are very tall, at least

One of the Aslans advanced a step and buzzed with his reed-like
protuberance. The Universal Translator in Adam's commbadge gave him the
translation.
"You will find the Vordock." It was a simple statement as if the fact had
already occurred.
Adam spoke carefully. "I will exert every possible effort to assist you
in locating your sacred Vordock."
The Aslan replied, "You will exert all effort to find the Vordock and
return it."
Adam balked slightly. "Sir, I will gladly assist you in your hunt, but I
will not turn over my ship nor my crew. I am their Captain, and that is
final."
The Aslan seemed to consider this for a moment. He buzzed softly for
several moments in a manner the Translator did not attempt to interpret.
Then the Translator came back online. "Unacceptable. You will exert all
effort or be destroyed. Take him to the holding chamber. We will deliver
him to the Heirate so he may begin his search."
Adam was stunned. His processors could not follow the Aslan's reasoning.
When the armed Aslans grabbed him he was unprepared. In moments he was
lifted easily from the floor and carried bodily away.

"CONTACT" - Part 3
Captain Adam Android, CO
ISS Reciprocity

<< One of the Aslans advanced a step and buzzed with his reed-like
protuberance. "You will find the Vordock."
"I will exert every possible effort to assist you in locating your sacred
Vordock."
The Aslan replied, "You will exert all effort to find the Vordock and

Adam balked slightly. "Sir, I will gladly assist you in your hunt, but I

"Unacceptable. You will exert all effort or be destroyed. Take him to
the holding chamber. We will deliver him to the Heirate so he may begin his
search."
When the armed Aslans grabbed him he was unprepared. In moments he was
lifted easily from the floor and carried bodily away. >>

Adam was deposited in a small chamber and a force-field was erected to
contain him. The Android Captain still had not come to grips with his
situation. ~What did I do wrong?~ he thought to himself.
Having the patience which only an artificial life-form could posess, Adam
stood just within the force-field staring out at his single guard. This
Aslan was a slightly different coloration than the "Captain", and had
somewhat different ridges and tufts to his chitaneous armor. After what
could have been an hour, Adam finally ventured to speak, thankful that the
Aslans had not removed his commbadge and its Universal Translator.
"Hello there. I believe there's been some kind of misunderstanding ..."
The Aslan buzzed at him, then clicked something inside his exoskeleton
which made an unnerving sound. The Translator responded with, "Shut up you
*bleepin'* wierdo! You're gonna find the Vordock or *bleepin'* die! All you
*bleeps* are gonna die!"
Adam noticed immediately he'd encountered a species with a very strong
xenophobic, possibly even xenocidal, outlook. Were it not for the loss of
their highly valued Vordock, these people would probably have never left
their own star system, except perhaps to colonize uninhabited worlds.
Adam decided his only choice was to go along with them, as they had not
harmed him, only detained him. This sort of behavior may be normal among
their kind. He spoke again, this time somewhat more submissive. "Please,
governor, I did not mean to offend anyone, I do not know your customs."
The Aslan clicked his shell again. The Translator did not interpret the
noise. Adam continued, "I humbly ask for access to records so that I may
become familiar with your Vordock. Only through understanding can I offer my
assistance."
The Aslan guard buzzed quietly, as Adam had learned they do when thinking,
then answered, "You will be able to access limited records from that port."
He pointed to a socket in the wall. Then he continued, "Since you are only a
machine, you can plug in there."
Adam was impressed that they had discerned that he was not a biological
organism. But then again, since they had advanced technology, there was no
reason to believe he'd not been thoroughly scanned either before or during
his transport onto their ship.
He turned from his guard and studied the port the Aslan had indicated.
With a little luck and some simple tools he thought perhaps he could rig up
an interface. He asked for the tools and was given a close approximation to
what he'd wanted. He set to work.
Hours passed and the android made little progress. His guard came closer
to get a good look every so often, and when he did, Adam made a point to
raise his hands, step clear and let him take a good look. The Aslan would
click his armor and move on and Adam would return to work.
Eventually there was a change of guard, indicating to Adam that these
Aslans did take time away from their duties to rest and/or recuperate,
perhaps even indulge in recreation, much as his own crew. He greeted the new
guard, only to be clicked at and ignored, and returned to his work. Being a
machine that does not require rest or diversion did come in handy from time
to time.
Finally he managed to rig the interface. He called the guard over to let
him know.
"I believe I have it ready, governor. May I give it a try?"
The Aslan buzzed his reply, "Go ahead, *bleep*."
Adam plugged himself into the interface and was immediately inundated with
information. So much data rushed into his positronic net that it caused a
system overload. A safety routine shut off the feed and the rigged-up
interface sparked and overheated and burned out.
Adam went stiff, his joints locking, and fell over onto the deck of the
holding cell, unconscious, immobile, and lifeless. Only the rapidly pulsing
blips on the access plate of his positronic matrix, where the interface had
been plugged in, indicated if any life remained in the artificial man. His
matrix was rapidly attempting to correlate and index the massive input.

RETURNING FROM A DISTRESS CALL

Situation: CONDITION GREEN

The Reciprocity has just returned from the rescue of the "Hog Transport".
There is some concern in that there has been no contact from Captain Android.
His decision to go and speak with the Aslans alone had been vigorously
opposed by his Command Staff, Commander Riuurren and Lieutenant Commander
Hawke, but overruled. The logic of the situation was irrefutable.
Adam had claimed that there was nothing more they could do here, in the
ruins and debris of the Aslan's latest victims, except to make contact with
the Aslans. Yet the new Distress Call required the attention of the
Reciprocity and her crew. The simplest solution was for Adam to go alone to
the Aslans. His Command Crew demanded he take a Security Team.
But no contact had been made with them since the Reciprocity warped away
to respond to the Distress Call. And now they had completed that mission and
returned.

What they found was the empty debris, and the abandoned ISS Heinlein, the
Captain's Yacht that Adam had used for his Contact mission. They could only
assume the worst.
Sensors have detected that the Searcher vessels rendezvoused with a larger
Aslan ship in the adjacent Sector. The Reciprocity is now following their
trail at maximum warp.

This Briefing must remind us all of our Standing Orders regarding the
Aslan Heirate: We are to "intercept the Heirate, determine what the
'Vordock' is, and somehow defuse or eliminate this possible threat to the
Alliance, before they are able to pose any real threat". We cannot permit
this situation to escalate into an all-out war.

*** Information Provided that the Simmers do not yet actually know ***

1. Adam has offered to assist the Aslans to locate the Vordock.
2. The Aslan Captain demanded Adam's "every effort" and captured him.
3. Adam was not harmed in any way, but detained.
4. When Adam asked for access to records he was granted "limited access."
5. Adam rigged an interface with the Aslan computer system.
6. Adam's interface downloaded massive information and caused a system
overload.
7. Adam lies "lifeless" on the Aslan ship.
8. Adam's positronic net is processing furiously to try to make sense of the
massive data dump.
9. It can be "deduced" that Adam now knows all about the Vordock, if he can
be made to wake up.
10. This is one hell of a situation to be in. :-)

The crew has succeeded in our dual tasks of recovering Captain Android and
maintaining a line of communication with the Aslans. Utilizing a plan
designed by Ens Hunter enabled a small team to locate Captain Android and
beam him off the Aslan vessel while the XO, Doc Rolly, was able to "persuade"
the Aslans to lower their shields to accept tribute of Romulan Ale he
generously donated for the cause. Ens Hunter was also
able to modify her positronic sequencer to assist the Captain in
re-activating his neural net. Support in this venture was provided by
Counselor Ellahandra and Dr. & Engineer Hooley.
By not actively engaging the Aslans or returning fire, Doc Rolly was able to
convince them of our sincerity to assist them in locating the Vordock they
seek with such ruthlessness. It is fervently hoped that Captain Android had
the opportunity to gather information that will aid us in understanding
exactly what a "Vordock" is and also assist us in our future interactions
with the Aslans.

Today the Reciprocity returned to the site where a squadron of Aslan vessels
of varying sizes had destroyed an alien freighter convoy while searching for
their "Vordock", a mysterious item of religious significance to the Aslans.
We had been distracted by a distress call from the freighter SS Deliverance,
which the Reciprocity rescued from a trio of pirate vessels, as described in
my last report.
As the Reci dealt with the pirate menace, Cpt. Android stayed to make first
contact with the Aslan Hierate in the yacht USS Heinlein. Upon the Reci's
return to the site, our crew discovered that the captain had been taken
aboard an Aslan vessel. The Aslans demanded that we aid them in finding their
infamous Vordock, whatever it is, but we were determined to rescue the
Captain from their nasty, dirty, bug-like clutches before we would lift a
finger to further their misbegotten quest.
I stalled the oversized cockroaches for time while CSCI KDaana, Ens. Hunter
of Security and Dr. Hooley quickly worked to produce a gadget that would
locate the Captain through the Aslan energy field (evidently, the Captain's
combadge had been disabled by the treacherous bugs). Finally, the device
complete, an Away Team led by LtCmdr. Hawke beamed aboard the abandoned
Heinlein and located the Captain on the Aslan flagship.
In order to get the Aslans to lower their shields, we set up a costly little
ruse. I offered our new "friends" a token of our esteem, a case of fine
Rihannsu ale, which, being not wholly lacking in taste, they lowered their
shields to beam aboard. As they energized their cargo transporter and the
precious nectar was lost to my wistful gaze forever, the Away Team, hidden on
the Heinlein, beamed the Captain to safety. To cause a diversion, I
had the Reci move away as though attempting to flee the Aslan, who opened
fire. The diversion was successful, and the Heinlein slipped away unnoticed
by the irate bugs, whose wrath we apparently have appeased somewhat by
turning the Reci about, bringing her to a complete stop, and lowering her
shields.
I have contacted the bugs over a hailing frequency and explained our
situation in more or less truthful terms: we have acted in good faith
[relatively] and merely needed our Captain returned before we would help them
in their infernal search. Our shields are still down. The Away team is
entering the docking bay now with the Captain...Will the Aslans finish us off
in this vulnerable state?

Our precarious situation with the Aslan bug-people has eased somewhat. The
Aslan ceased firing upon the Reci as I was writing my previous log.
Negotiations of a more or less diplomatic sort have commenced and are still
continuing. I believe we have come to an agreement that a diplomatic Away
Team from the Reci will be accepted aboard the alien vessel to discuss the
return of the elusive Vordock, an Aslan religious artifact of some
kind.
In the meantime, our efficient crew has used this short respite to good
effect. The engineering department, directed by Mr. Hooley, has repaired the
damage the Reci suffered in the Aslan fusilade. The Science department under
CSCI KDaana continues to search for any unusual blips on our scanners that
could be the alleged Vordock, and the several casualties of the brief Aslan
attack have been tended to in Dr. Hooley's medical bay.
Still, how can we trust these hideous, insectoid creatures that seem so
unlike anything we have encountered before? Somehow, I cannot help but think
of the perfidious Breen when I see the Aslan Commodore, Orkin, on the Reci's
main view screen. "Never turn your back on the Breen". I remember that saying
from childhood. Perhaps it will apply just as well to the Aslan. Or perhaps
they will turn out to be our allies in the end, in spite of all
that has occurred up to this point. We will probably find out tomorrow, when
our intrepid Away Team puts it all on the line in the name of diplomacy. My
instincts cry out for Disruptor Diplomacy, but the Alliance has forbidden
that course of action, and the bugs have us massively out-gunned in any
case...

Tonight, an Away Team of ISS Reciprocity has successfully opened historic
diplomatic negotiations with the sinister, oversized, bipedal, insectoid
freak..er, aliens, known as the Aslan Hierate.
The historic Away Team, led by LtCmdr. Hawke, included representatives from
many of the Reci's departments: Mr. Reikson, Conn.; Mr. Hooley, Engineering;
CSec Vaebn TrRekhiel and Ms. Hunter, Security; Dr. Hooley, Medical; and Mr.
Raoul Beauregard Buford, Hydroponics, who "just snuck aboard for the ride".
The AT were received by the Aslan, who invited them to dinner. Apparently,
the Aslan's fare, some sort of crustacean, was none too appetizing on first
sight, although Ens. Buford remarked that it compared favorably to
"crawdads", whatever those are.
As the Aslans began to practice their singularly disgusting eating habits
(draining bodily fluids from the crustaceans through their sharp, tube-like
"mouths"), the AT stoically watched while making conversation with their
hideous hosts. I am proud to report that not one member of the AT threw up at
the awful scene. Suddenly, the bugs brought in some other guests of a more
sordid character. Several pirates closely resembling the ones the
Reciprocity battled weeks ago marched in to the banquet hall, or Chamber of
Horrors, as it were. These scum evidently had convinced the Aslans that they
could be of service in locating the Vordock. The scruffy leader of the bunch,
one Luc-Duc Hazard, tried to incite the AT to join him in seizing the Vordock
and putting it up for sale as an exotic item to the highest bidder. LtCmdr.
Hawke refused, and the slimy Frenchman ordered his rabble to
whip out their phasers and take the Aslan Commodore hostage as he sat gorging
himself on crustacean blood and other culinary delights. As the pirates in
the banquet hall hastily armed themselves, about fifty of their compatriots
scattered througout the Aslan ship prepared to seize critical locations such
as engineering and life support.
At the critical moment, the gallic buccaneers were thwarted by our intrepid
AT, who seized "captain" Hazard and shot several of his crew, one mortally (
hence illustrating the truth of my "Disruptors are more fun" bumper-sticker).
The rest of the assorted riff-raff scattered throughout the ship promptly
surrendered when they discovered the "brains" of their outfit, such as it
were, had been captured.
The Aslan have expressed their gratitude for the Away Team's services and
claim to see the Federation as potential allies, despite the fact that in
many ways their technology surpasses that of the Federation. I will never
concede the bugs any superiority whatsoever to Rihannsu technology, long live
the Emperor!

Returning from the successful diplomatic mission to the Aslans, I take a
more suspicious view on this mysterious species. Contrary to previous
belief, we have discovered that the Aslans are not as single-minded.
Frankly, before the diplomatic embassy, I thought of the Aslans much like
ants: intent only on achieving their objective. Straightforward the
ruthless. However, now that the Aslan have shown such emotions like
gratitude and fear, they
seem more human. Their ability to make allies (in this case, with us), and
new evidence of culture (demonstrated by their welcoming of us with dinner)
has shed light on a three dimensional species.
But what is controversial now, is whether the Aslans are now to be thought
of as more dangerous, or less. To me, their ability to feel emotion and
think three dimensionally can potentially make the Aslan a greater threat
than previously imagined. It gives them the ability to have ulterior
motives, plan complexly, and manipulate. However, on the lighter side, they
can now potentially be allies. Personally, due to their mindless devotion to
the
Vordock, I shall continue to regard the Aslan as a threat.

The engineering team has been able to return Captain Android to a
functioning state, so therefore new and exciting information has been
released about the Aslan. The most intriguing of which, the illusive
Vordock. A detailed physical description of the artifact has been released,
and much as been answered.
First and foremost, we understand now that the Vordock is a physical object,
neither a spirit, being, nor of the such. And so, we will be able to help
the Aslan in obtaining this object.
Furthermore, physical objects are able to be processed. Shall we have the
Vordock, it would be a powerful bargaining tool. What disturbs me is that,
previously it was mentioned that the Vordock "cannot be destroyed," causing
me to inference that the materials in which the Vordock is made of is
considerably advanced. Mention that the Vordock has existed for hundreds of
thousands of years further supports my thought.
On where to find this Vordock, I have no thought. But first, contact must
be made with the Aslan on where they have already searched. Only then may a
logical search the for Vordock be made.

the reci mission was...eventful. more accurately, an away team mission to
the planet of kwarizmi two. a small band of pirates taken captive earlier had
informed us that a piece of the aslan heirate's vordock might be found on the
surface. not entirely trusting the word of the freelancers, we sent a small
away team to the surface in a shuttle.
upon landing, we proceeded to locate the famous kylor's pawne shoppe, home
to the rarest trinkets planet-wide. in simpler terms, a massive junkyard.
while browsing through the antiques presented, the helpful shopkeeper was
"persuaded" to point out the location of the object we had searched for. the
artifact resembled a piece of the vordock, with a slight modification to its
base.
unfortunately, before we could examine the artifact in more detail, an
annual ritual where the citizens of the world "ran amok" had started. this
involved the people taking up arms in a free-for-all against their own kind,
and any visitors who happened to be on the surface.
after a very brief scuttle, whereupon our esteemed security officers held
the men at bay, our ever diplomatic commander decided a withdrawl was prudent
and we seized the artifact and transported directly back to the reci. we did,
however, pay mister kylor the amount due, which of course was drastically
reduced after much haggling and a swordpoint to the neck by mister trrekhiel.
unfortunately, in our haste to leave the surface, we neglected to retrieve
the shuttle as well. ensign hunter and myself beamed back down to the
surface, scraped a few natives off of the hull and departed. the rest of the
trip to the ship was relatively uneventful, aside from the fact that a very
stubborn native had managed to cling to the hull during our entire ascent,
and was vacuum-frozen to the side of the shuttle. on the bright side, we now
have a statue we could use as a gift for the heirate.

"Musings"
by Captain Adam Android
ISS Reciprocity
Stardate 60006.26

Adam Android stood silently gazing out the wide windows of the luxurious
Captain's Quarters of the great Warbird, the ISS Reciprocity. His
emotion-emulating routines were sending him signals resembling great pride in
his ship and her crew. They had handled themselves most admirably in this
Aslan situation.
Despite the racial tensions still simmering under the surface amongst his
crew, and the tension with the Aslans in their single-minded pursuit of their
lost Vordock (he still wasn't quite sure they'd defused this situation),
they'd all managed to survive the Aslans and even recover what was believed
to be the first piece to turn over to the Aslans for verifcation.
He turned from the window. "Computer, open Captain's Log, Stardate
60006.26."
The Computer chirped its usual reply, "Log open, you may begin when
ready."

" I am hereby recording the following Commendations upon the Entire Crew
of the ISS Reciprocity:

=X= The Bronze Star - For successful completion of a major mission under
enemy fire

=O= The Captain's Commendation - For their skills in handling Rescue
Missions, Diplomacy, and Search and Retrieve Missions in what can be
considered Hostile territory

In addition to the aforementioned awards, I am also awarding the following
Commendation upon specific members of the crew, namely

Captain Adam Android
Ere'Riov Maenek Fvielrrolh Cha'Riurren
Lieutenant Commander Cannon Hawke
Lieutenant Vaughn Sel'Enir

These officers are awarded the #G# Gamma Cluster for long-term service in the
Gamma Quadrant. Each of these
fine officers has been with the Reciprocity since its inception a year ago.
Starfleet, the Rihannsu Imperial Galea, the Fathom Council, and the
Geocondician War Tribunal wish to recognize these Officers as fine examples
of their respective cultures, and are proud to have them representing their
seperate Empires to the peoples of the Gamma Quadrant."
<<OOC: Lt. Vaebn Tr'Rekhiel has been on the Roster since the beginning,
but his Extended Leave of Absence is interpreted as having been "In Advance
Training" on Romulus, and not in the Gamma Quadrant.>>

The Android Captain paused a moment, allowing himself to smile. They
really were a fine crew. But now the hard part truly began. They would have
to work with the Aslans.
Adam's data dump from the Aslan ship's computer had been too much
information for his processors to catalog, index, and cross-reference for
easy retrieval. The end result was an almost useless list of random facts.
For example, he knew that the Commander of the fourth ship named Karek's
Buzzer liked to have his beetles basted with the solidified fat of a
milk-producing invertebrate native to the seas of their homeworld, but
refused to eat
anything boiled in the juice of the Darettin plant. But Adam did NOT know
what kind of propulsion system powered the current configuration of the Aslan
war frigate, or at least could not recall it.
The only way they would get any benefit out of Adam's data overload, was
if the Aslans could help him detangle it and sort it out. And that would
require dialog. And that would be hard, the Aslans were so much different
from the races of the Federation.
Adam turned back to the viewport and gave a very human-like sigh. Then as
he turned from the star-filled void, his commbadge chirped, "Bridge to
Captain Android, there is an incoming message from the Aslan Heirate, sir."
Adam smiled slightly and said, "Yes, I was expecting that, Ensign. I am
on my way."
"Acknowledged, sir. Bridge out."

The Reciprocity rendezvoused with the Aslan Fleet to deliver the artifact we
had recovered. It matched the basic parameters of the Vordock base as
discovered by Cpt Android during his encounter with the Aslan database. A
small away team consisting of myself, Captain Android, Ens Hunter and Ens
MinMae beamed over to the Aslan lead vessel.

We were escorted to what appeared to be a conference room filled with
Aslans. CptAndroid explained why we were there and requested the Aslans
verify whether the item we found was part of their missing religious
artifact. I was ordered to show them the item and I unwrapped it from the
fur I had used to cover it during transport. Realizing how much value the
Aslans placed on the Vordock, I was careful not to touch it with my bare
hands. The
easiest way to get killed by another race is to touch a religious item in a
way they consider disrespectful. Not knowing the Aslans taboos, I was taking
no chances.

The Aslan Captain stated the item was not the Vordock. The legs were wrong
and the surface was not reflective. Another Aslan disagreed and stated that
it may have been the Vordock. He was killed for speaking out of turn. The
disruptor fire that took his life was noted by the Reci crew and while Hawke
sounded the alert, Doc Rolly made contact with the Aslan vessel with the
assistance of GaRan. The three officers had been keeping close traces on
all members of the AT but were under strict orders not to incite actions that
could be interpreted as hostile. Cpt Android was able to convince them that
we were not in immediate danger.

I was ordered to leave the artifact with the Aslans as there was a
possibility it could be part of the Vordock. The dead Aslans had raised the
very real possibility that the item could have been modified in some way. I
did not wish to hand over our only bargaining chip until transport back the
Reci was underway but Cpt Android understands them better than anyone else
due to his acquired knowledge for the datalink. As soon as the item was in
the
Aslan Captain's hands, we were beamed back by them....right through our own
shields!

Currently, the crew is continuing to analyze the data were have on the
Vordock and Aslans. Their technology in shielding and transporters far
exceeds ours and yet they could not find the base that we discovered with
relative ease. Each encounter we have with them provides more data for us to
work with.

ISS Reciprocity
Personal Log
SD 60007.01

The Aslans are currently in possession of the artifact recovered by the crew
of the Reciprocity. It may or may not be part of the Vordock they have been
seeking so ruthlessly. My personal feelings are that it IS part of the
Vordock. The only basis I have for my belief is that the Aslan Captain
responded so violently when one of his submissives stated the item "could
have been" part of the Vordock after he stated it
was not. Perhaps he recognized the item as Vordock and did not want it to
remain with us. As a strategist, he/she would recognize the power we would
have over the Aslans if we knew the worth of the item to them and somehow
managed to use that against the Aslan race. What better way to acquire such
a desired item than to declare it as a worthless fake? Any Ferengi would
tell you that is a common and often effective ruse.

The Aslans neither know nor trust us and they have no reason to believe we
would actually hand over this treasured religious icon. Captain Android was
correct in taking the chance of handing over the item without any strings
attached. That single action may have saved all our lives if, in fact, it is
part of the Vordock.

The question still remains unanswered as to why the Aslans could not locate
the item as easily as the Reciprocity did. It does not make sense for such a
powerful fleet to fail in so simple a task. I have spent many hours
reviewing the data we have on the Aslans and their technology. So far, I
have discovered nothing concrete to account for this seeming inconsistency.
Yet something keeps coming to mind. Again, this is merely theory and
conjecture, but the possibility that I may be correct still exists.

The Aslans are an insectoid race. Science has shown that adaptations made
during evolution enable a species to survive. Many insectoid races exist in
a "hive" environment and most hive societies depend far more on senses other
than sight to survive. Auditory and olfactory senses are far more keen in
insectoids than in mammalian species. They are also much more aware of
vibrations, magnetic fields and environmental fluctuations than mammals.
They tend to avoid interaction with other races and when interaction is
forced on them, it often triggers massive "defensive" reactions so typical to
the way insects defend their hives.

I have noticed that many of the Aslan systems are similar to ours, though
more powerful. Our sensors detect the materials and natural phenomena we
program them to detect and display the results in visual graphics we have
learned to identify. The Aslans do not seem to have technology as sensitive
as ours in this field. Could it be, that like many hive-dwelling species,
they are virtually blind? Depending on other senses that are more highly
developed to survive? It was obvious from the Aslan Captains' comments that
they have some close range vision. He could determine basic shape of the
item and that it was dull rather than reflective but it was the underling
closer to the item who stated that it "could be" the Vordock.

Most of the systems utilized in space flight and battle can be adapted to use
by a species lacking detailed visual acuity. Systems can be made that use
auditory alerts, motion and proximity detectors and other adaptive routines
that would enable them to navigate, defend and attack but I have never seen a
truly comprehensive sensor/scanner system that did not require well developed
visual ability to interpret results. Could this be why the Aslans
demand the return of the Vordock from all they encounter and then attack
immediately? They cannot determine if the people they encounter have the
item and use fear and aggression in an attempt to force it's return?

::sighs:: It's all just theory now. Perhaps way off the mark but one I
cannot seem to let go of. I have requested a meeting with the Captain to get
his input on the theory. Perhaps the Medical staff may be able to obtain a
scan of one of the Aslans during our next encounter with them. That would be
extremely helpful in proving or disproving the theory.

ISS Reciprocity
Reporting: Lt. Cmdr. Cannon Hawke

After find the Base part of the infamous artifact, Vordock, the ISS
Reciprocity sped back towards the Aslan Heirate fleet to deliver it.
Arriving at the Aslan flagship, the crew of the Reciprocity was told bluntly
to "surrender the Vordock or be destroyed;" the Aslan obvious forgetting any
thaw in relations with the Alliance. Captain Adam Android obliged, beaming
over to the flagship with First Lieutenant KDaana, Ensign Hunter and Ensign
MinMea to
"surrender" the Vordock. Remaining aboard the Reci was Doc Rolly, Hawke, and
GaRan; tensely trying to maintain transporter lock on the AT while playing a
high-stakes game of cat-and-mouse with a dozen Aslan warships. Aboard the
Aslan flagship, a conference room of high-ranking Aslans examined the
artifact, complete with skeptics and optimists arguments. Eventually, the
Vordock was handed over, as it had to be more closely examined. Shockingly,
the AT was beamed back to the Reci, by the Aslans, and right through the
Reci's shields. The crew of the Reciprocity has survived this historic
incident with the abominable Aslans, but will the be as lucky next time?
Until next week.

We aboard the Reci welcome MinMae and GaRan! Talented and enthusiastic,
these two already promise to be among the best, and therefore rightfully with
the Reci ;)
And we would also like to give a big shout to the new Editor-in-Chief of the
USF Weekly, Lt. Cmdr. Nick Smile! Although you have big shoes to fill, we're
sure you'll do an excellent job :-)

Intelligence Report
Stardate 60007.05
Level 2 security clearance required.

Infomation downloaded by Captain Adam Android during his capture by the
Aslans, as well as intelligence gathered in the past year, has yielded
intriging insight to the Vordock artifact and its seekers. With the large
amount of infomation gathered, I have been able to make several conclusions
and inferences dealing with the Vordock.
To start, the supposed Base of the Vordock seems to have a bit of an
illustrious history. Taken from a pawn shop owner on Kwazi Prime, further
interrogation and investigation has revealed that the owner originally
acquired the artifact by means of appropriation.
The pawn shop owner had taken posession of the Base after killing its
previous owner during the last Season of Violence. Since the crime occurred
during the Season, it was not considered a crime to kill and steal, and the
Kwazi society accepted the pawn dealer's ownership.
The previous owner, now deceased, was a Jag'estor Mecrek, an old hermit who
lived on the northern continent of Kwazi Prime. Mecrek claimed to have been
a direct decendant of the almost mythical Hecalious Mecrek, the great freedom
fighter of Proarmo 3. The campaigns of Hecalious are said to have occured
about 100 years ago.
Stories have it that Hecalious Mecrek was a plantation owner whose land and
planet were seized and conquered by "a horde of monsterous insectoids", also
sometimes referred to as the "Dark Ones". The following is a translation of
a passage from a portion of Mecrek's epics which I managed to acquire:

"The monster stood ten feet tall, the blood of my neighbors still dripping
from its claws. At the sight of me, it gave a great growl, like the screech
of a victorious gredas (bat-like creature indigenous to Proarmo 3, with a 4
meter wing span). Behind it were a thousand more monsters, driven by lust
for blood. I had already seen what they had done to the land, to my brothers
and sisters. And so at that point, I swore for revenge." -
Hecalious Mecrek, writtings of Hecalious Mecrek and his exploits compiled by
Rajaid Vinca

Mecrek goes on, in the epic, to slaughter all one thousand monsters with his
bare hands. Mecrek went on to lead a resistance cell for several decades
before he was finally forced to flee Proamos 3, surrendering it to the vast
numbers of colonizing insectoid "Dark Ones". Clearly, Mecrek's epics were
exaggerated, but one cannot dismiss the starking resemblance the "monsters"
have to Aslans.
Strangely enough, the Aslans, too, have records of Proamos. At around the
same time of when Mecrek claims the "monsters" came, Aslan records show that
was when they first attempted colonizing Proamos. They fought a long, hard
war in their efforts to colonize, and it was only their rapid proliferation
rate that they eventually succeeded. Evidence therefore supports that the
"insectoid monsters" of Mecrek's epics, and the Aslans are of one.
Also noteworthy, the great uprising of Proamos was the last Aslan reference
to the Vordock being in their posession. The war for Proamos was very
large-scale and widespread, so it is feasible that Mecrek was able to aquire
the Base of the Vordock sometime during his campaigns. However, neither the
Obelisk nor the Disc was found on Kwazi Prime or in Jag'estor Mecrek's
posessions.
In Hecalious' writings, as well in other cultural accounts, Hecalious had
two great generals: Usad Virconus, a modest, mild mannered man; and Esstar
Dinbari, a proud, arrogant man. They fled Proamos at about the same time as
Hecalious, and certain evidence indicates that they may have each taken a
part of the Vordock. Mecrek makes no mention of the Vordock in his writings,
but he does mention, "While I may have the body of the beast, Virconus took
the heart of the monster, and Dinbari took its soul."
Starcharts do not show any Proamos System, and Hecalious' writings do not
show where Proamos is. Although the Aslans do mention Proamos, we have not
recovered their charts to the planet, and unfortunately Captain Android
cannot recall the data which we know is in his positronic brain. For now, we
can only speculate where it is.
Finally, records show, both by the Aslans and nearby planetary systems, that
the height of the Aslan Heirate was at the colonization of Proamos. Since
then the Heirate has been in slow decline, overshadowed by the up-and-coming
Dominion and Breen. No longer in pursuit of a galactic empire, they have
been in relentless search for the Vordock for the past 100 years.

================================(@)================================
Status Report
SD 60007.14

THE DEBARILON

status: Yellow Alert
CONDITION: Black (Cloaked & Damped)

The Reciprocity has returned what was believed to be the Base of the
infamous Vordock. The Vordock is an ancient religious artifact of the Aslan
Heirate, an insectoid species whose technology is beyond our own (but whose
techniques and application of that technology may be a bit behind ours).
The Aslans seemed uncertain whether the Object returned actually was the
Vordock, which seemed a bit unusual in that they were searching for it so
ruthlessly (they've literally destroyed a dozen worlds whose populace were
unable to "Surrender the Vordock or be destroyed.")
Captain Adam Android had previously received a massive dump of data from
the main computer core of the Aslan Heirate's flagship, so much so that he
was unable to properly process and catalog the data. As a result, he is full
of "useless" information on the Aslans. But occassionally, as if "working
around his Forgetfulness Algorithm", certain stimuli will prompt a connection
to stored data in his Positronic Net and he will "remember" something.
Such has in fact happened. Captain Android has "remembered" that the
lifespan of an Aslan is only around ten standard years. The Vordock was
"stolen" by Hecalious Mecrek sometime around 100 standard years ago. That
would seem to indicate some ten generations of Aslans have passed with no
direct knowledge of the Vordock at all!

But still the Reciprocity searches. And we have entered an area of the
Gamma Quadrant controlled by the Debarilon, a humanoid race of a highly
territorial nature. Some information gleaned from the Science Department and
the Intelligence Department, put with data coerced from Captain Android's
scrambled memory banks on the Aslan, seem to indicate the Debarilon may be
related to Esstar Dinbari, one of Hecalious Mecrek's
generals said to have "taken the soul" of the "beast". ("While I may have the
body of the beast, Virconus took the heart of the monster, and Dinbari took
its soul." - Hecalious Mecrek, writings of Hecalious Mecrek and his exploits
compiled by Rajaid Vinca) (Thanks Hawke!)
So, we believe that perhaps another piece of the Vordock may be found in
the area controlled by the Debarilon. While cloaked, we are unable to do any
active scanning, but information indicates caution in dealing with the
Debarilon. They tend to shoot first and ask questions later. Especially
when they feel their territory is being "invaded".

Instructions by Department

Medical:
Several of our Viridon refugees (taken aboard a long time ago when they
were fleeing the Aslans) have taken ill in the past few days. The illness is
mysterious and its origin is as yet unknown. Symptoms are similar to
radiation poisoning, but do not respond to conventional treatment. One
patient is in critical condition, two in serious, and half a dozen are in
guarded condition. Many more are experiencing mild symptoms.
The "Plague", as it is being called, does not affect any other species on
board, only the Viridon.

Engineering:
Some of the Viridon refugees working in Maintenance have reported an
unusually high number of repairs needed to the Refugee Quarters on Deck
52-Aft. Some conduits and wall panels seem to be "deteriorating".
Investigation is warranted.

Flight Operations:
A Fighter Squadron with a Reconnaissance Detail is on Standby if needed in
any encounter with the Debarilon. All Shuttles and other Extravehicular
Craft are accounted for and stowed. The Reciprocity's helm is responding at
100%.

Security:
There have been increasingly violent "demonstrations" by the Viridon
opposing our assistance of the Aslans. In the beginning of our relationship
with the insectoids the Viridon expressed fear of the "Dark Ones", but our
continuing relations are beginning to anger many of the Viridon refugees who
feel the Aslan Heirate should be "punished" for their warcrimes instead of
aided to find an Object which may turn out to be a weapon.

Tactical:
We are at Yellow Alert and Condition Black. We are entering an area known
to
be patrolled by the highly territorial Debarilon. An encounter is expected
to occur eventually. The Debarilon tend to be agressive and attack
"invaders" on sight. We are uncertain of their Tactical capacity, or the
effectiveness of our cloak on them. Be ready. Flight Operations stands
ready to assist in any actions necessary. The Weapons Upgrade initiated by
Lt. Sel'Enir is ready for testing, but has not yet been approved.

Sciences:
Scanning is currently on Passive Mode only due to our status of Condition
Black. Suggestions are welcomed on how we may extend our sensor capability
without sacrificing our cloak. Captain Android has uploaded a complete
description of the Vordock to the main
Science Computer, complete with (partial) molecular schematics and resonance
patterns in various electromagnetic frequencies. This data is somewhat
suspect as it was "damaged" in retrieval.

Intelligence:
LtCmdr Hawke will be working closely with Security, Medical, Engineering,
and Sciences to correlate these seemingly unrelated incidents and data and
determine if anything useful can be discerned. We know very little about the
Debarilon, except that they are highly territorial and aggressive.

"Feeling Them Out"
a log by Captain Adam Android
SD 60007.23

Captain Adam Android sat at his desk in his Ready Room aboard the modified
Romulan Warbird, the ISS Reciprocity. In front of him on his display monitor
was the Tactical Data acquired by the Reconnaissance Team on their first
encounter with the Debarilon.
All in all, the encounter had gone well enough. They had expected
hostility from the Debarilon. Lt. Cmdr. Hawke had forewarned them of their
extreme territoriality. If Adam had had it his way, they would have steered
well clear of this region of the Gamma Quadrant. But their sources indicated
the second piece of the Vordock puzzle might be found in this sector of
space, and the Aslans wanted the Vordock, and the Alliance wanted the Aslans
pacified.
The Advance Recon Flight had picked up their first Debarilon ship, a
heavy-transport freighter by all readouts - large cargo area, poor
maneuverability from high mass, minimal armament. The Flight approached the
freighter under cloak, making passive scans. To all appearances, the
fighters' cloaking technology was effective.
Once it was determined that the freighter did not appear to be a threat,
Capt. Android ordered the fighters to begin active scans to determine the
tactical capability of the Debarilon. At once the freighter detected the
fighters and altered course to move away from them. Full scans seemed to
indicate that although the configuration of the craft was consistent with a
freighter, there were many more life-signs than would seem warranted. It may
have been a troop transport vessel, or an evacuation.
But suddenly, the freighter opened fire on the fighters. Capt. Android
ordered that the fighters begin a controlled withdrawal, firing only in
defense. They pulled back to two klicks perimeter and the Debarilon opened
hailing frequencies. "Invader, withdraw from Debarilon space immediately!"
Recon 1 replied with the standard, "We're here to simply scout the region.
Our mission is a peaceful one." But the Debarilon opened fire with a massive
volley of photon torpedoes and phaser banks which had apparently been
concealed and unpowered when the fighters made their first passive scans.
Recon 1 was hit in the engines and was dead in space until Recon 2 locked on
a tractor beam and towed it out of range.
The Fighters managed a controlled withdrawal, banking wide to fall out of
range of the Debarilon before returning to the cloaked Reciprocity and
docking. The Debarilon freighter did not pursue, apparently believing that
the tiny fightercraft had fled. There was no indication that they detected
the presence of the Reciprocity.
Capt. Android ordered a full tactical analysis with the comment, "When
even their freight transports are armed like that, who knows how a battleship
might be armed." To which Lt. Reikson replied, "It is interesting that you
should say that, sir."
Capt. Android asked what Lt. Reikson meant by that and the Lt. explained,
"Long-range passive scans have picked up a large burst of warp radiation near
the freighter. A much larger ship appears to have warped in almost on top of
it. An escort to further deter any approaches from 'invaders'?"

Recon 1, the lead fightercraft, had received heavy damage to its engines
and would need a major overhaul. The newly promoted Assistant Chief
Engineer, Lt. JG Hooley, and his new Assistant, Ensign Klagg, were working
with the newly promoted First Lieutenant Reikson, the Chief of Flight
Operations, to quickly repair the fighter in anticipation of it being needed
again. The Second Flight was already prepped and on standby.
Now Capt. Android studied the tactical information received from the Recon
Flight. They had felt out the Debarilon and discovered them quick-tempered
and heavily armed. Finding and retrieving the Vordock in this region of
space would prove ... tricky.

we have entered debarilon space. despite our own intelligence reports that
have listed the people native to this region as territorial, an expedition
was required to confirm a rumor that a piece of the aslan heirate's vordock
was located here.
a recon flight of four black widow fighters was launched in an advanced
probe for the region, and quickly picked up a massive debarilon ship. the
ship appeared to be a bulk freighter, travelling along the spacelanes of the
region. passive scans soaked up enough data for a threat assessment, wherapon
it was decided that the freighter was no threat.
under my recommendation, the fighters deviated from their stealth probe and
activated full scanners. the spike in power alerted the freighter to the
apparant threat, and - following a warning hail - opened fire on the recon
flight. a single ship took the brunt of a barrage, which the freighter had
reinforced with the addition of hidden weaponry, and was disabled. the rest
of the flight quickly evacuated, towing the disabled freighter.
following the recovery of the fighters, the reci's own passive sensors
detected a larger ship hooking up with the freighter. though it has not been
confirmed, i believe the ship was a military vessel, leading me to believe
that the freighter's cargo is vital to the debarilon, or that they take
paranoia to the extreme. i suspect the former, as normal scans of its cargo
revealed numerous lifeforms, more than was possible for normal crew, judging
by
the size of the command pod.

ISS Reciprocity Sim Summary
Reporting: Lt. Cmdr. Cannon Hawke

Still searching for the pieces of the Vordock, the Reciprocity now enters
Debarilon space under a lead. After some research, the exploits of Hecalious
Mecrek may be related to the disappearance of the Vordock some 100 years ago.
The Debarilon, related somewhat to one of Mecrek's generals, is a viable
lead.
Entering the highly aggressive and territorial space of the Debarilon, the
Reci and her recon scouts remain cloaked. With passive scans, the recons
locate a Debarilon freighter. Captain Android ordered for active scans to
determine the tactical capability of the freighter, only to have them
detected and fired upon. Despite repeated explanations of their presence,
the recons were attacked with the freighter's concealed weapons. Soon
enough, a
Debarilon escort warped nearby...
Meanwhile, within the Reciprocity, the Viridon refugees have stages several
demonstrations against the cooperation with the "Dark Ones," i.e. the Aslans.
Also, a mysterious illness has infected the Viridon population, further
increasing the tension. The tension peaked when a gang of disgruntled
Viridons burst into sickbay, briefly taking the medical staff hostage.
However, they were just frustrated and meant no harm. Several were taken
into
custody by LtJg. Hooley and Lt. Cmdr. Hawke. But the illness still ravages
though the Viridon population, claiming the current death toll of 23. Or at
least until next week...

Shane Reikson has been promoted to First Lieutenant! Raoul Hooley has been
promoted to Lieutenant Junior Grade and Assistant Chief Engineer!
Congratulations both of you, you've earned it.

Stardate 20007.24

We entered Debarilon space on approximately 0015 hours in Condition Black
and Yellow Alert. As I understood it, Recon flights had been sent out ahead,
also cloaked. But as soon as the Reci encountered a freighter, I was called
down to sickbay to settle a dispute.
In sickbay, a group of disgruntled Viridon had invaded. Wielding knives,
they did not intend to cause injury, and only wished to vent their
frustrations: both at the mysterious illness and Starfleet's cooperation with
the Aslans. The situation was already defused when I arrived. However I
detained several with assistance from LtJg. Hooley.
Our current situation is far less favorable. A large Debarilon military
vessel is in proximity, and I would guess they would not look upon us
favorably. Detailed scans are yet to come in on the vessel, but I would
safely assume its weapon capabilities are greater or equal to our own.
Nevertheless, my confidence in the Reciprocity and her crew to perform well
when the time is needed has not diminished. From the tactical viewpoint, our
predicament
is fair. Should we engage the Debarilon vessel, our fighter and bomber
squadrons combined with the Reciprocity's firepower would decimate the
Debarilon. However, the political standpoint is not good. Our goal in
finding the Vordock is to appease the Aslans and avoid another war. To make
war with the Debarilon to avoid war with the Aslans is flat out stupid. How
we handle the upcoming situations will surely shape the events of the Alpha
and Gamma
Quadrant's future.

The Reciprocity entered the Debarilon system in our search for Vordock
artifacts. Initial Recon flight team sensor data had indicated possible
Aslan materials were present in that system. The Recon team itself came
under fire from the station orbiting the 4th planet. Only the skillful
piloting and tactical efforts of all Recon teams prevented the loss of Beta
Flight. After the Recon flights moved out of station range, the Debarilons
launched a
counter strike team which was lead to the Reciprocity where Hawke and Shane
used Sel'Enir's new tactical system programs to engage them.

Meanwhile, Councilor Ellahandra attempted to defuse the Viridon refugee
revolt. She had made good progress with a female leader and had returned to
the bridge to discuss their demands with Captain Android when a crazed
Viridon, spouting nonsense about the "Great R'hatta" forced his way onto the
bridge. The quick reflexes and martial skills of Hawke rapidly subdued the
deranged Viridon. He is currently in a secured cell under Councilor
Ellahandra's
competent care.

At the time of the Reci's entrance into the Debarilon System, the science
department had localized the source of the Vordock type sensor readings on
the second planet. An Away Team consisting of myself, Shane and TrRekhiel
was beamed to the source of the readings and came under immediate hostile
fire. Under constant attack, the team made its way to the artifact and Shane
secured the objective. After a brief delay, caused by the attacking
Debarilon
fighters, the AT and the artifact were returned to the ship.

Currently, the artifact is being analyzed and battle damage to the ship is
being repaired. The Memorial service for Redshirt Kenny, who was killed
during the away mission, will take place this evening. I, myself, am slowly
recovering from an infected r'hatta bite. The antibiotics of this place are
ineffective in treating my race so I am relying on herbal treatments I have
devised from the plants of my homeplace. Those, combined with time spent in
the healing energy field of my Sanctuary, seem to be resolving the infection.
Although far from well, I am nevertheless improved as demonstrated by the
fact that I am able to perform my duties...a bit slower than usual but with
accuracy and attention to detail.

The preliminary report on the recovered item will be available shortly.

Vordock Artifact #2

The artifact recovered from the second planet in the Debarilon System is
physically consistent with the description of the missing Vordock disk
section provided by Captain Android.

It consists of a single crystalline disk measuring 0.53 meters in diameter.
Its thickness varies from 1.07cm in the center to 1.02cm at the outer edges.
This difference in depth occurs in a mathematically precise pattern and is
obviously by design as opposed to being a random formation. The surface of
the disk shows regular, fine striations. These are not visible to the naked
eye but become quite apparent when the object is examined under magnification
devices. Molecular level examination reveals the item is not
manufactured. It is a naturally formed crystal that has been "ground" into
it's current shape.

Photospectography reveals an interesting phenomena. The crystalline matrix
of the artifact is far more dense than one would anticipate based on the
objects' weight ( 2.3 kilos). This density results in an unusually acute
angle of light refraction. When exposed to an intense light source, the
object concentrates and bends the light rays from 63 to 94 degrees, depending
on where the light contacts the disk surface. Additionally, light that is
refracted from one section of the disk is frequently caught and refracted
again as it passes through other sections resulting in a spectacular visual
effect.
This is consistent with the reported functioning of the Vordock. Without
this extreme refractory ability, the Vordock would not be able to bend light
far enough for it to illuminate the glyphs on the base or obelisk and thus
reveal the Aslan "Enlightenment's".

The artifacts' dense matrix also makes it extremely resistant to damage. The
surface shows no random scratches or damage although there was a considerable
amount of dust, oils and other contaminants present on the surface. Once the
strength of the crystal was ascertained, this debris was removed using a
gentle cleaning solvent. It was at that point that the incredible clarity of
the crystal was revealed. To the naked eye the item appears clear
with a barely noticeable blue tint. When exposed to strong light, the
aforementioned refractory properties cause the disk to fill with shimmering
cascades of color in every known spectrum. The colors waver gently and
evoked an almost hypnotic response from those who were conducting the
analysis. It was extremely difficult to look away from the object until the
light source was discontinued.

My preliminary finding is that this item is a naturally occurring crystal of
unknown origin. We have nothing in our database that matches it's matrix,
molecular profile or refractive abilities. It's properties are consistent
with the described abilities of the Aslan Vordock. In addition, I have
initiated a safety protocol that requires a time limit on light exposure
during any and all future examinations of the object until we can determine
if
the hypnotic effect presents a hazard to any crew members who may be
observing.

The Reci has located the second piece of the Vordock. During our onward
press into Debarilon space, the Reciprocity's recon ships located a heavily
populated cluster of worlds, causing the Reci to come in to assist. Our
specially tuned sensors, along with the aid of the numerous fighter screen
quickly located the artifact, and it was decided to send down an away team to
retrieve it.
Unfortunately, the territorial Debarilon quickly picked up the Reci-group's
presence and took hostile actions to force us out. Several squadrons of
home-grown fighters chased our fighters away, back to the Reci. Once the big
ship was brought in, orbital platforms around the system opened fire, causing
a sever amount of damage. It didn't help that many ship's systems were down
because of an infestation problem.
An away team consisting of TrRekhiel, KDaana, Redshirt Kenny, and myself
risked a transport to the planet sheltering the artifact. The Debarilon
apparantly assumed the Vordock was of value to us outsiders, so they had a
large contingent of warriors to delay our advance.
TrRek and Kenny immediately charged towards the hoardes while KD and I swung
around the ensuing battle and approached the complex containing the artifact.
Unfortunately, Kenny was the focus of the soldiers' attacks for most of the
battle, even when he'd already been cut to pieces by disruptor fire.
Inside the building, we found another mass of soldiers. KD was quick to
provide cover fire while I traversed the crowds and retrieved the Vordock.
Once the artifact was secured, The two of us retreated to the main battle,
where TrRek was busy dispatching the remaining phalanxes.
Though he was easily handling the situation, the Reci -- up against hoardes
of enemy fighters and the orbital stations -- was not, and recovery of the
away team was a prerequisite to an advance to the rear. The away team was
beamed back aboard, whereapon KD collapsed from a lingering R'hatta bite.
The artifact is being analyzed for confirmation that it _is_ the Vordock and
if it is, we are yet one step closer to appease the Aslan Heirate.

ISS Reciprocity sim summary
Reporting: Lt. Cmdr. Cannon Hawke

The ISS Reciprocity finally entered the Debarilon system, searching for the
infamous Vordock pieces. Recon flights had indicated possible Aslan
materials, but soon came under attack by the aggressive Debarilons. The
flights were called back, and the Debarilons directed their assaults then on
the Reci. As the Reci entered further into Debarilon space, sensors located
the Vordock on the fourth planet. An away team was send down to recover the
artifact, consisting of FsLt. KDaana, FsLt. Reikson, Arrian Tr'Rekhiel, and
Ensign Kenny Redshirt. Under fierce attack, they moved to take the Vordock.
Orbiting the fourth planet, the Reciprocity also came under fierce attack
from an array of Debarilon ships and even a station. Utilizing a new
tactical system developed by Lt. Sel'Enir, the Reci was mostly successful in
repelling the assaults.
Meanwhile inside the Reci, Councilor Ellahandra quelled Viridon refugee
uprisings. Progress was made, and Ellahandra returned to the bridge with the
refugee demands. On the bridge, just when success was in sight, a crazed
Viridon burst in. Wielding a disrupter, he rambled senselessly about a
"Great R'hatta," and threatened to kill everyone on board. Needless to say,
the individual is now under custody under Ellahandra's supervision, and is
awaiting a "talk" with Lt. Cmdr. Hawke.
Finally, the AT was retrieved from the planet with the Vordock in hand, and
the Reciprocity sped away leaving the incompetent Debarilons eating dust.

VIRIDON UPRISING

status: Green
CONDITION: Normal

The Reciprocity has been assisting the insectoid race called the Aslan
Heirate in searching for their lost religious artifact, the Vordock. The
Aslans had been ruthlessly destroying any and all civilizations they
encountered if they could not "surrender the Vordock." The Alliance wanted
to defuse this threat.
The Vordock consists of three seperate parts, a Base, an Obelisk, and a
Disk. The Base was recovered from a pawn-shop owner on Kwazi Prime. The
Disk has just been recovered from the Debarilon (who were not too happy to
have "invaders" in their territory and put up quite a fight).
Another development has recently attracted our attention, however. Early
in the exploration of the Gamma Quadrant, the Reciprocity encountered the
race of the Viridons, who were fleeing from "the Dark Ones". We later
discovered the Dark Ones were in fact the Aslans.
We took aboard the Viridon refugees and gave them living quarters and jobs
aboard the Reci. But ever since we started helping the Aslans, the Viridon
have been protesting. These protests have turned more violent since an
unexplained plague began killing off the Viridons by the dozen.
Recently, an unidentified source of high-energy radiation has been
identified in the lower decks of the Reciprocity, the area assigned as living
quarters for the Viridon. It is suspected that this energy source is the
cause of the plague. Investigation is warranted.

Some Issues we face:

Viridon Uprising - [Command / Engineering / Security] - The Viridons have
united behind one of their own and are now causing problems in systems
maintenance, and internal security. Several terrorist acts have been
committed, but no-one has yet been injured, only equipment and supplies.
The Viridon Plague - [Medical / Sciences / Security] - Many of our Viridon
refugees are ill with the Plague. The Viridon uprising are claiming that
this Plague has been created by the Alpha Quadrant Alliance and the Dark Ones
to eradicate the Viridon race. This is of course, ludicrous, however many
Viridons are beginning to believe this
accusation.
Repair of systems damaged in the firefight with the Debarilon and by
Viridon terrorists - [Engineering / Operations / Security] - Many systems,
subsystems, and infrastructure have been damaged in the last few weeks.
Repair teams are working overtime trying to keep up. Some are evidently
deterioration possibly connected with the
electromagnetic pulses recently detected.
