"Recall" - Part Three
by Commander Adam Android
Executive Officer, ISS Reciprocity

Adam stood in the massive main hall of Starfleet Academy. Around him
milled thousands of sapients, each with their own agendas. The android was
amazed, confused, intrigued, and befuddled. He made his way through the
crowd and found the booth set up for new applicants.
"Good morning!" the smiling android said to the Vulcan who ran the booth.
The Vulcan merely stared at him blankly before replying, "Greetings, sir. Do
you wish to apply to Starfleet?"
Adam grinned broadly, "Most certainly!"
The Vulcan reached for a PADD and handed it to Adam. "Fill this out with
all of your biographical information. When you have completed it, return
here for further instruction."
Adam took the PADD and smiling said, "I will return shortly."
The Vulcan replied, "No, you won't."
Adam was puzzled at the Vulcan's reply, but the next person in line tapped
him on the shoulder and said, "Can you move it along buddy?"
Adam stepped out of line and found his way to a bench where he could sit
and read the PADD. The first question on it stumped him. It asked simply,
"Name:" Adam realized he had no name. His designation was Tralerian Colony
Cybernetics Research Facility Project Number 9964-983-462. He raised his
head, looking for someone who could help him. Of the thousands of persons in
the main hall, no one seemed interested in helping any new applicant fill
out his application.
So he decided he'd skip that question and come back to it. The second
question was "Date of Birth:". This one puzzled Adam as well, as he had not
been born. He started to say something, and then closed his mouth when he
realized no one was listening. He extrapolated that this question meant the
date he was activated, so he put that date, indicating that he was only five
years old.
Then, after several relatively simple questions came another difficult
one. It asked, "Are there any weaknesses of which you are aware that might
interfere with the performance of your duty according to Starfleet
Regulations?"
And Adam remembered the communiquι. He remembered sub-standard parts. He
remembered that he had abandoned his post. He remembered that he'd stolen a
Romulan Runabout. He remembered that people who relied on his abilities were
now wondering what had gone wrong with their First Officer. And he realized
they would all think, "The machine malfunctioned. Good thing we weren't in a
pitched battle, or undergoing delicate First Contact
Negotiations, or secretly gathering supplies under Prime Directive Protocols,
…" or any number of other possible circumstances.
And the android that had come to apply to Starfleet Academy answered the
question. Yes, there were weaknesses. He was unfit for Starfleet. He was
defective. He dropped the PADD to the floor with a clatter. And suddenly he
jerked.

"Recall" - Part Four
by Commander Adam Android
Executive Officer, ISS Reciprocity

Adam awoke lying on a biobed staring up at Cardassian architecture. He
tried to sit up and a Human's arm stretched across his chest and a voice
said, "Lie down until we're sure you're okay."
A grinning Ferengi stood next to him as well. The Ferengi turned to the
Human and said, "See, doctor! I knew we could fix him!"
Adam tried to speak. "Whirr … ayam … aye? Wuhut … ez … gowin … un?
Me-aye … verbinal … ak-tee-vay-teorz … zeemtu … bee … mayal-foon-uk-shunnin."
The Human looked across to the Ferengi. "I believe he's having trouble
with his verbal activators. See if you can do something."
The Ferengi stepped out of Adam's sight and the android felt a tickle on
his head. He tried to raise his arm to feel, but only managed to move it so
that it dangled off the edge of the biobed. The Human took his arm and
replaced it next to him, giving a soft pat to the hand. "You've had some
problems, Commander. We're trying to repair you. Be patient."
Suddenly the Ferengi touched something inside Adam's brain. He jerked
again. His automated responses kicked in. "Systems on-line." He paused a
moment, then, "Now establishing datalink."
Adam contemplated a moment, a confused look on his face. Finally he spoke
again. "What has happened to me? I was on my way to Tralos …"
The Human spoke. "How much do you remember, Commander?"
Adam calmed a bit. "I am Adam Android, Commander in Starfleet, First
Officer of the Reciprocity. This is Deep Space Nine, correct? And you are
Dr. Julian Bashir, and I believe your assistant is Lieutenant Junior Grade
Nog."
Nog grinned at Bashir. "Perfect! I told you he'd remember everything!"
Bashir grinned at Adam. "How do you feel, Commander?"
Adam attempted to sit up again, this time the Doctor permitted it. The
android turned and allowed his legs to hang over the side of the bed. He
tilted his head slightly as he performed his diagnostics. "I seem to be
fine, Doctor. But I am disturbed. I have several discrepancies in my memory
buffers, and there seems to be a temporal displacement that I cannot account
for. I was going home for …," he trailed off.
Bashir waited until he was sure the android seemed to be functioning
normally. Then he stated simply, "The Reciprocity has reported you as AWOL,
Commander. Colonel Kira wishes to speak with you as soon as you are able."
"Acknowledged, Doctor. I believe I am able now. Do I have your release?"
Bashir glanced at Nog, who shrugged. The doctor replied, "You'll come
back to me if you detect any problems?"
"Certainly, Doctor."
"Then you are released but relieved of duty for twenty-six hours."
"Agreed," Adam answered as he slid off the bed and stood there. One more
automatic diagnostic determined he was functioning within normal parameters.
He left the Infirmary and headed towards the Operations Center of the
Cardassian-made station.

"Recall" - Part Five
by Commander Adam Android
Executive Officer, ISS Reciprocity

Adam rode silently up the Lift into the Operations Center. Personnel
turned to glance at him and quickly returned to their immediate tasks when
they saw a Starfleet Commander standing there. He stepped off the Lift and
said, "I am Commander Adam Android here to see Colonel Kira."
A Bajoran officer, Adam believed the insignia to indicate the rank of
Captain - rougly equivalent to a Starfleet First Lieutenant, stepped over to
him and said, "The Colonel is expecting you, Commander. Come with me."
He entered Kira's office, formerly Captain Benjamin Sisko's office - the
baseball still sitting in its stand on the desk. He snapped to attention and
announced himself, "Commander Adam Android, reporting as ordered, sir." He
raised his arm in a crisp salute.
Kira turned to him, returned the salute, then stood glaring at him.
Finally she stepped around her desk and nodded to the Bajoran Captain,
dismissing him without a word. He silently turned and exited the office,
leaving the android alone with the Bajoran woman.
"Dr. Bashir told me you had some problems. Am I expected to believe that
excuses you from being AWOL, Commander? That it excuses theft of Romulan
Empire property?"
Adam did not know how to respond. He answered, "I was unaware I had
committed any errors, Colonel. My memory b-…"
"Yeah," she interrupted. "Julian told me all about your malfunction."
She began pacing in front of him. The android remained perfectly still at
attention. "I'm not sure how things are run on the Reciprocity, but here on
this Station there are rules." Adam bristled at the implication that the
Reciprocity might have lax rules.
She continued, "I understand you are a machine, and Dr. Bashir indicated
he'd found some defective components." Adam actually blushed his golden
coloration when she mentioned his sub-standard parts. "But any other officer
in Starfleet or the Bajoran Military must be held to his duty and can't use
the excuse of 'malfunction' to avoid responsibility."
Adam still stood silently at attention. The Bajoran Colonel stopped
pacing just in front of him and turned to face him. "I'm out of my
jurisdiction on this one, Commander. But in my opinion, I'd be hesitant to
trust a machine that malfunctions to making command decisions. I'm going to
recommend to your Captain - what was his name again? Oh yeah, Jared St. Cloud
- that he evaluate your actions based on whatever history he knows of you and
take
some sort of disciplinary action." She paused to let that sink in.
Then she said, "Dr. Bashir informed me that he and Nog removed the
defective memory chips and replaced them with standard Starfleet-issue
isolinear circuits. I hope this eliminates any problems you might have."
Still Adam stood motionless, staring out at the Bajoran Wormhole as some
unrecognized vessel entered it headed for the Gamma Quadrant. Colonel Kira
also stood silently motionless and finally asked, "Do you have anything to
say, Commander?"
"Yes, ma'am. I apologize for my oversight and had no intention of going
AWOL or stealing Romulan property. I had received a transmission indicating
the likelihood of sub-standard components and was en route to my homeworld to
have them repaired. In retrospect, I realize I should not have attempted to
make that trek alone, but I was … embarrassed."
Kira was surprised at that one. "Embarrassed? I didn't think androids
felt emotion."
"I am a unique android, Colonel. I have rather complex emotion-emulating
routines. My embarrassment is probably what catalyzed the memory failure."
Adam stopped a moment before asking, "You said the Doctor had removed the
defective components?"
"Yes, Julian and Nog found several burned-out Ferengi electronic memory
chips, and a few other minor parts that were beginning to fail. They
replaced or repaired each one."
Adam smiled in spite of being at attention. "I am pleased to hear that
Colonel."
Kira's expression softened a bit. She said, "You know, you're not as bad
as I thought at first. I'm a little uncomfortable with the idea of a living
machine, but you're not so bad." Then she straightened back up and turned
back to her desk, walking around to stand behind it facing the android. "My
recommendation still stands, however, Commander. I will send a subspace
transmission to your Captain recommending disciplinary actions.
Dismissed."
Adam again saluted and turned to exit the Colonel's office. He strode
straight across the Operations Center to the Lift and headed out to the
Promenade. He would have said he felt ten years younger, but since he was
only five years old, he couldn't say that. But, nevertheless, he felt
refreshed. He was sure that Captain St. Cloud would go easy on him. After
all, no harm was done, and he would be returning to his duties very soon.

Mission Briefing
SD 60001.29

Having survived crash landing on McGowan 2, the crew is still working in
two teams. Team 1 (the Salvage Team) is trying to rig a comm system from
what little is left of the Shuttle Thames while Team 2 is searching for
possible shelter sites that will provide adequate cover and protection.
Team 2 has a potential site in a cave not far from the crash site. The
cave shows signs of animal inhabitation, but the unusual properties of this
planet prevent any accurate sensor sweeps to locate the creature(s).
Tricorders can not get any accurate readings beyond about 2.5 meters. There
is some kind of electromagnetic interference which dampens their
effectiveness.
The cave is worth the risk of animal visitation because it affords the
crew good shelter, is easily defended (only two ways in...one "mouth" and
one inner tunnel) and it is within walking distance of the life forms we had
been investigating.
Once a camp has been set up, the Teams must evaluate the life forms nearby
to determine if they might be hospitable or hostile. Perhaps they can help
with getting the Teams off the planet somehow, or at least assist in getting
some comm system functional.

As for the Team Assignments, since I was not here last week, you guys will
have to just fall into place. As for myself, I will be on the Bridge of the
Reciprocity wondering what has happened to my Shuttle Team.

That will be all. Carry on.

2O Lt KDaana reporting
SD 60001.29

The stranded crew members are working diligently at their assigned tasks.
Koroth, Hawke and Voya are building a comm system out of the remains of the
shuttle's components in the hopes of contacting the ship. Doc Rolly, Shane
and KDaana are in the cave preparing to mount a ground search for the
humanoids. Meanwhile, on the Reciprocity, CmdAndroid and Sturek continue to
search for the lost shuttle and her crew.

The crew is beginning to show signs of a skin ailment similar to advanced
radiation poisoning. Shane uses his survival training to provide some much
needed food. He also locates a creature that look like a tiny, spiked
armadillo. As the comm team begins to make some progress, the search team
heads out and locates the survivors. All are disfigured and in horrible
condition. It is discovered they are abandoned slaves brought here to mine
Irridium
3, a radioactive substance that is stable when encased in rock but highly
dangerous when airborne. The slaves, and all life forms on this planet,
show the effects of radiation.

Moments later, massive, spiked creatures attack. (Shane's little pet has some
nasty relatives!) A glorious battle ensued. Hawke and Voya arrived to join
the battle. Thanks to the quick work of Commander Android and Lt Sturek and
Sogh KorotH, emergency beam out was a success. All members of the AT as well
as all 20 humanoids where safely transported to the Reciprocity where medical
treatment is underway. Also transported aboard is Shane's little
friend. Kahless help us when it reaches adult size!

After the tragic crash of the Mocba, we were sent down to the desert planet,
McGowan II. Appearently, the Federation scientists thought that some
scientific value could be found. Much of the Reciprocity main staff was
assigned to land on the planet via shuttle.
The severe atmospheric storms caused instrumental failures, and ultimately
forced the Shuttle Thames to crash land. Luckily, there were no causualties.
However, most of the shuttle was unsalvageable and a complete wreck.
We soon split into two teams; one to try and contact the Reci, and the other
to try and find shelter. The latter team has reported they found some safe
caves, but with evidence of animals.

Chief Medical Officer's Report on McGowan II Expedition, SD60002.5

During our brief exploration of McGowan II, the away team found twenty
humanoids suffering from severe radiation poisoning caused by prolonged
exposure to Irridium 3, an unstable element present on the planet. The away
team was also briefly exposed during the expedition.
Upon beaming back to the Reciprocity, both the badly mutated humanoids and
the away team members were immediately taken to main medbay where they were
treated with hyronalin gas therapy and adrenalyn. The away team members,
including myself, recovered quickly as our exposure to the Irridium was very
brief. Unfortunately, several of us required surgery for wounds caused by
large spiked mammals said to resemble the Terran armadillo. One of
these pesky little fiends was brought back with us to the Reciprocity. It is
hoped Mr. Hawke will maintain control of the wretched beast, for all our
sakes.
After several days of recovery, I was well enough to join the rest of the
medical staff in performing major reconstructive surgery on the score of
wretches we found on the desolate planet. Many of them are so badly
disfigured that they will need several more operations and extensive
psychological treatment as well, no doubt. The perpetrators who enslaved them
should be slowly executed; hopefully they will be apprehended by Romulans or
Klingons
rather than Federation personnel, so that true justice will prevail.

The away team from Reciprocity had beamed down to the second planet of the
Kinloo system. Preliminary sensor sweeps revealed a pre-industrial
culture..somewhat equivalent to the Terran Medieval period. Appropriate
clothing was replicated and the team (consisting of Cmd Android, Rolly, Enir,
Voya, KorotH and myself) transported to a wooded area near a small town.
Our goal was to determine the feasibility of using this planet as a supply
port. The real trick will be doing so without violating the Prime Directive.
All caution must be taken not to interfere with the natural development of
these people.

We had not been long on the surface before we encountered some of the
indigenous people. They encased their bodies in heavy metal which I believe
is primitive armour. They rode huge beasts that are capable of inflicting
far more damage than spears and arrows. The beast, called a "Dadink", has
barbed tail and the toxins in the barbs cause rapid destruction of
tissue..both biologic and synthetic. While protecting Enir from a barb,
Adam was wounded
in the hand. Rapid discoloration and putrification followed. The Commanders
arm was removed at the elbow.
It was at that moment we discovered we had been observed by a young girl
hidden within the flora. The extraordinary efforts of the AT members not
only eased her fears but also convinced her that we are a troupe of traveling
entertainers on our way to Carnival. She has even agreed to guide us there.
The Prime
Directive has been maintained and we will soon be in a larger town where we
can continue our search for information.

::open log::
Our Away Team beamed down to the miserable excuse for a "civilized" planet
in the Kinloo sector to see what all the fuss was about. The Feds seem to
think that someone with advanced tech has been messing with the primitives'
so-called "culture".
We got our first sights and, unfortunately, smells, of the planet's populace
when a horde of savages encased in shabby metallic armor galloped by on the
backs of quadrupeds they had apparently enslaved for their barbaric and
laughable attempts to practice the art of war. The primitives were quite rude
and arrogant, obviously being too ignorant to respect their betters. One of
the slave beasts even attacked Cmdr. Android with it's tail, harpooning
him through the hand with a poisonous stinger. The toxin produced a
near-instantaneous gangrenous reaction, and the Commander's arm had to be
removed, in a not quite natural manner.
We discovered a young female savage who unfortunately had witnessed the
removal of the Commander's arm, which could only be understood in terms of
"magic" by the barbarians. We convinced the gullible little creature that we
were a troup of entertainers and talked her into leading us into a stench
filled targ sty known as a village.
We mingled with the primitives and pumped them for information. I managed to
earn a few drinks by posing as a "chirurgeon" and apothecary, performing some
minor surgery and mixing antibiotic concoctions for the pox-ridden populace.
Their drinks, by the way, are not bad as a whole though inferior to the finer
brews found on civilized planets. Perhaps in a couple millenia they'll get
the hang of it.
Finally, we discovered that some alleged "magicians" lived in a crude
fortification on the outskirts of the town. Allegedly, these worthies are
capable of restoring severed limbs. We must investigate this matter: clearly,
there is something rotten to be found here other than the teeth of this
rock's inhabitants.....

"THINGS GO BOOM WITH TWO ASSASAINS IN A ROOM"

Cannon Hawke sat in his office, rather sober after his bout with Selenir.
He couldn't help thinking to himself just how much truth in what Enir said
the Giocondicians did. And just how much of it was known by
outsiders...Cannon had placed a tracing device on the Lieutenant, cautious of
his movements and whereabouts. Hawke was
the type of person to always felt the need to be on top of things, and his
recent conversation with the Vaugn didn't exactly make him feel in full
control.

++==++==++==+==++==++==+==++==++===+==++==++==++==++==++

Vaughn snapped awake, feeling the usual drain of going over his several
thousand years of life with someone else, and the psychic drain of using his
full powers as well. He realized he was in Hawke's room and remembered his
conversation. He immedietly noticed the tracking device, and left it there,
he had Hawke as a friend, and wanted to keep it that way.

++==++==++==+==++==++==+==++==++===+==++==++==++==++==++

A small light appeared on Hawke's console, flashing silently in the dark
room. ~He's awake.~ Cannon sat up, wondering what he should do with his
friend. He couldn't help wondering if Enir was quite sane; with the Engine
and all. Hawke propped his feet up again and forceed himself to go to a
different subject.

++==++==++==+==++==++==+==++==++===+==++==++==++==++==++

Enir moved silently down the corridor...and noticed something he hadn't seen
in a long, long, long time ... Giocodician armor signatures ...heading for
Hawke's office.
Cannon finally finished his various reports, piling the undone PADDs in a
drawer. He rose to his full height and walked over to the exit. The
computer automatically turned off the lights once Hawke exited and the office
was empty. Cannon walked along the corridor, which was also empty and
silent.
The Giocondicians moved silently and stealthily, living extensions of
weapons. After all, every Giocondician warrior was embued with the aptitude
for the Vengeance Armor, a living bioarmor. They moved as shadows' shadows.
The leader sent telepathic communications to his other soldiers, and silently
drew an assault disruptor rifle. The Fathom wanted a
certain First Lieutenant dead...and Giocondicians always deliver.
Cannon Hawke walked down the corridor towards the level turbolift. However,
midway there, he heard a familiar sound: the hum of a disruptor preparing to
fire. Hawke glanced back immeadiatly, and saw the glow of the charging
disruptor. He dropped down and right, just as the disruptor blast fizzled
past his shoulder. As he dropped, Hawke's right arm lashed
out across, sending a burst of energized water in the direction of the enemy.
He dropped to the floor lightly, the past events taking only a second.
The Giocondician used a psi-field to bounce the water down onto the floor,
the rest of his troops drew theirs as well and opened with a fusillade of
shots towards the floor, but never revealing their positions, by using their
carefully placed autocannons to herd Hawke towards them.
Cannon tried not to panic, in fact, he hadn't ever remembered panicking.
With a dozen bursts coming at all directions, he came as close as he ever
did. Thinking quickly, the dodged the first two easily, but a second wave
came alarmingly fast. Cannon saw an opening, but it lead to a rather bare
area. The shots seemed to come out of nowhere, and going to
more nowhere was perhaps not a good idea. Instead, Hawke took the chance
dive through a window and into another office. He recovered, but still had
no weapon other than his abilities. The Giocondicians moved silently and
stealthily down the corridor...dangerously...but unable to be seen. Cannon
noticed the shooting stopped, and took the opportunity to acess the
situation. His attackers obviously has some sort of cloaking technology.
They were
able to catch him off guard, but then suddenly moved away. Hawke quickly
grabbed a phaser from his desk.

++==++==++==+==++==++==+==++==++===+==++==++==++==++==++

Enir walked slowly but surely...following the signatures of the armor down
the hallway.
At first, it was only a single drip of water from the ventalation. A puddle
formed on the floor, and a solid figure arose from it behind Enir. Enir
kept walking...but he had a spliting headache.
The Fathom raised his weapon to the back of Enir, an elaborate blend of high
technogly and tradition style. Shooting an opponent in the back would
normally be a discracful act to do, but it was a time of nontradition. He
would do his job.
Enir quietly summoned a psi-field to protect him and turned, "Put that
down...please? I'm tired and am in a foul mood."
The Fathom had been previously briefed by their Giocondician allies about
Selenir's capabilities, but he was inwardly dissapointed that Enir had
detected him. He fired his weapon coldly.
Enir was already ducking, but the blast still took him in the shoulder...he
grunted and boiled the Fathom's brain...literally. As the first attacker had
just fallen, a dozen others solidified around Enir. They had no immunity to
Enir's physic attacks, but Enir had no immunity a good energy weapon. They
opened fire simultaniously.
Enir...simply...froze time. Just for a second, and he ducked...but still
took two hip fired blasts in the ribs. He hoped they would kill each
other...but well.
The Fathom were amazed at how their beams seemed to pass through Enir, but
they had aimed so no beam would hit their own. The leader motioned to cease
fire, and proceed with hand to hand. Each Fathom closest to Enir kicked at
once, but none overlapping.
Enir quickly went down...then lunged up and tore out a man's trachea. A
kick took him in the head and he went down. The Fathom chuckled to
themselves, the great Giocondician general was not so tough! They all
stepped back, then with a quick motion from the leader, eached fired once at
Enir's fallen body.
But Enir was not there...he had used his telekenisis to float to the
ceiling...quickly. As the smoke cleared on the deck, the Fathom were
astonished to find no body. Surely, their shots could not have totally
disinagrated Selenir. One Fathom was quick to point out the figure on the
ceiling. They raised their weapons again...
Enir had already stolen a blaster...shoved it in the mans mouth, fired, and
used him as a shield as he opened fire on the rest of them...finally dropping
all but 5 of them. The remaining Fathom retreated into the ventalation where
they came from, seemingly disappeared into the air.
Enir dropped the man but took his blaster and bled his way toward Hawke's
office...killing the swiftly moving bioarmor assasains in the process...
"Hawke!" He called hoaresly. "Damn...please tell me they didn't take you
too!"
Down the hall, Cannon had switched to the offense, swiftly moving accross
the corridor and firing into the shadows. He paused quickly enough in some
brief cover to call back, "Vaughn? What are you doing here?"
Vaughn dragged himself over, "Well...bleeding and killing. Same old same
old."
"Dispense with the pleasantries, Enir. Do you have any idea who these
attackers are?" Cannon asked as he addressed his own wounds.
Enir huffed, "I bleed my way over to you...after almost being killed by
people of your race!! What the hell is wrong with you, dammit!!!"
Hawke was surprised Enir knew anything about his race, "If who attacked you
were the Fathom, who are these?" Cannon asked, referring to his attackers,
"The Giocondicians?"
"Could you see them?"
"No, but I know they blend in with the shadows," Hawke stated while changing
an energy cell.
"Vengeance...DAMN!
"I don't understand, you're not making sense."
"Vengeance BioArmor, used by the Giocondicians."
Hawke cussed under his breath. "Let's talk about this later. You go right,
I'll go left."
Enir agreed and snuck off with the blaster...and extra energy cells. Cannon
dove off towards the left side, rolling behind some desks. The
Giocondician's Vengeance BioArmor was a particualar complication. Hawke knew
they could hide in the shadows, but could never see in which ones. He only
sucess had been to fire blankly into the shadows, and that was met with
limited sucess. However, now with Enir, their chances doubled.
Nevertheless, some
would say two times zero was still zero. Cannon begged to differ.
Enir pulled the trigger and fired a fusillade of bolts into a
corner...suddenly a Giocondician dropped out.
Meanwhile, Hawke was forced to retreat under a barrage of heavy fire and
dove for a corner. He quickly realized his mistake though, and swept out
with his arm to neutralize any hidden Giocondician in the corner. The wave
of liquid energy moved quickly, but the hidden soldier was able to get out of
the way. Now out of the shadowns, Hawke was able get his first glimse of the
Giocondicians soldier and their unique armor. Hawke finished off the
retreating soldier swiftly, and looked to see how Enir was doing.
Vaughn dove and tackled one of them, quickly breaking the man's neck....as
well as shooting him in the back of the head. He grabbed the Giocondician
Gattling-weapon that fireed iridium needles that disipated against ships
hulls do to the resonic frequency....he quietly moved down the hall
way...blowing apart a remote Giocondician Herder in the process.
Being behind the wall was soon quite hazardous, Cannon soon realized as
projectiles pierced through the relitively thin indoor walls. Hawke dashed
accross the room, and once around the corner, threw his overloaded phaser
down the corrodor. The Giocondicians fought at a different level, a much
more brutal level, and Hawke was slowing learning the hard way.
Enir heard the blast....assumed it was a Giocondician style boom, and ran
back to Hawke. He saw Hawke hiding behind swiss cheesed titanium, he tossed
him the Fathom blaster and a pouch of power charges.
"Hawke, take these!"
Cannon caught the blaster, but let the power charges fall to the floor. He
then kicked a power charge across the corridor towards the bulk of the
Giocondicians. He fired at it, causing a decent explosion. The corridor was
now heavily laden with smoke, and Hawke could finally vaguely see the
outlines of his opponents.
Vaughn fired the Giocondician weapon and the sound of ripping cloth tore the
air, a few Giocondicians dropped and the feeder clicked empty. Enir shoved a
whole block of iridium into the feeder, after all the simple beauty of the
weapon amazed most. Simply stripped away harmonically tuned metal and blew
it down the barrel at both high temperature and high speed.
The battle was finally turning in the favor of Enir and Hawke. Cannon fired
his own weapon with intensity, its beam cutting through the smoke and bodies.
The Fathom beam looked much like Cannon's natural water manipulating
abilites; but did not draw its energy from the water. Nevertheless, the blue
beam devastated the Giocondicians ranks. Hawke and Enir continued to move
forward.
Enir felt something stir within him, and grinned ferally. Finally, at last,
the true him was emerging...Not the unsteady, unstable, unHAPPY Engine within
him but the true one. His inner self. The REAL Engine fired in short bursts
reveling in the carnage and destruction it caused amongst the Giocondician
ranks. Enir growled and charged forward. Pressing a lever he caused a
bayonet to extend and with it he spitted a Giocondician. The Giocondician
grinned at him until he saw Enir put the pressure on the trigger. The
blasted Giocondician corpse flew down the hallway and splashed Enir with
bioarmor shards.
Enir turned to look at Hawke and they both dragged themselves to Enir's
quarters. The battle was won, but there would be more to come.

ASCI Officer's Log
SD 60002.13
Lt. KDaana

The away team, acting on the instructions of young native girl named Telara,
located the area of the Wizard's Tower. Upon drawing closer to the Tower,
certain team members, myself and Enir, became aware of rogue energy
emanations. The team, efficient as always, was prepared for anything, yet
all we encountered was a disembodied voice. Our committment to upholding the
Prime Directive meant we were dealing with the
unknown stripped of our technological weapons and sensing devices. Commander
Android was able to convince the "Wizards" to grant us an audience. They
opened a portal that had been disguised as a large tree. Hawke and Shane
entered first and the rest of us followed.

Once inside, the uncontrolled energy began to have serious effects on myself
and Enir with Enir being tortured by intense cranial pain. His screams of
distress causing Rolly to attempt to sedate him even though he was unsure of
the effects the sedative would have on Enir. Commander Android was
instructed to place his severed arm on a pedestal but refused to do so.
By this time the team had hypothesized that the Wizards were unable to
maintain the proper functioning of their energy generators. The team was
trying to find a way out of the Wizard's Chamber when, by luck, a trigger
switch was found, activating a transporter of sorts.

The team materialized in another room...sun filled...not aboard the
Reciprocity. A man robed is a shimmering coat of many colors appeared. He
was confused as too how we appeared in the Wizards Circle. After some
hurried and angry conversation, the Wizard admitted that some of the
indigenous people have stumbled upon technology left behind on this planet by
the race known as the Dinalon (the Cloud dwellers of Kinloo 5).
They discovered how to use some of this technology and set themselves up as
powerful Wizards. Unfortunately, they did not understand HOW to maintain the
equipment that made their magic possible.

Commander Android convinced the Wizard to accompany us to Reciprocity where
we can deal with the crew's medical emergencies and work out a solution to
the energy pollution from the malfunctioning Dinalon equipment. We also need
to correct the fact that a powerful Wizard knows we are aliens. Rolly is
currently working out the parameters for a safe "mind-wipe" for our Wizard
friend, as he can not return to the planet with the knowledge he has of us.

The Wizard - Part One

"We told our tales as we sat under morning's sleepy sky
With all the colors of the sunrise shining in our eyes.
One then another with a story of yesterday's lies,
Or of a lover who had gone in a moment of strife."

"Tales" - by Uriah Heep

Adam Android, Starfleet Commander, Acting Captain of the ISS Reciprocity,
beamed aboard his ship with his Away Team and their "guest", a Wizard from
the region known as Kalar on the planet Kinloo 2.
As they materialized in Transporter Room One of their modified Romulan
Warbird, the Commander turned to their guest to begin what he was sure would
be one more ordeal in a string of ordeals. In his positronic matrix, he
replayed the mission.

First, there was the Kalarian Knight and his Dadink. That event had cost
the android his right arm. Then, there was Telara and the story of Adam's
artificial arm. Then was the Carnival at Kalar and the stories about the
"Wizards". After the Carnival, they entered the "haunted" forest to seek the
Wizards.
What they found startled the android, and confounded his mission
considerably. There was a strong energy source nearby, which apparently was
leaking radiation. Lt.'s KDaana and Selenir suffered the effects of
radiation poisoning, being more susceptible to the kinds of emissions present
than the other members of the Away Team.
Eventually they found themselves in the Wizards' Tower. There they
discovered advanced technology: the use of holographic projections, unusual
lighting, even a Transporter. And even greater energy leakage.
They found the activator for the Wizards' Transporter device, which took
them to another room in the Wizards' Tower. That was where they met their
guest. That was also where Adam began making the major mistakes that had
placed him in his current predicament.
Faced with the deterioration of his crew from the extreme radiation
sickness they were suffering, he was forced to confront the Wizard. He had
assumed that the Wizards had achieved advanced technology, based on the
observation of the energy source, the holograms, the electric lighting, and
the Transporter. It was a valid assumption. However, that was his first
mistake.
He dropped Prime Directive Protocols and told the Wizard who he was. The
presence of the advanced technology had abrogated those Protocols in any
event. He announced that he believed the Wizard was not indigenous to Kinloo
2, implying that he believed he was of an advanced civilization not of Kinloo
2.
The Wizard corrected him. They actually were indigenous to Kinloo 2.
However, they had not "achieved" advanced technology, they had been given it,
even if it was accidentally, by the Dinalon.
This surprised the android and he accidentally vocalized his thought
processes. He identified the Dinalon as being at Kinloo 5. That was his
second mistake. The Wizards had not known to where the Dinalon had gone.
Adam had inadvertently directed the Wizard in how to find the makers of the
technology he used for his "magic".
Knowing that the situation was now volatile, and also knowing that his
crew-members lives were at stake from the energy leakage, Adam decided to
beam up to the Reciprocity and interview the Wizard there. Moreover, he knew
that they might be forced to perform some kind of memory adjustment, if
possible, to rectify the situation - and that could only done aboard his
ship.

And so it came that the android Commander stood in his Transporter Room
with a Wizard of Kalar. He quickly dismissed the Doctor and the others to
the Sickbay for radiation treatment. He, of course, being an android, did
not require the treatment, and apparently neither did the Wizard.
The Wizard gazed hungrily all around the room. He was familiar with
transporters, that much they knew, but the computer consoles with lined the
back wall drew his attention. Adam, to prevent too much contamination of the
Wizard, called him back. "Sir, this way if you don't mind."
The Wizard pulled his attention away from the displays with some effort.
He faced the android and smiled, "I am eager to take the tour of your fine
vessel, Commander." His robes shimmered as he moved towards the exit.
Adam wondered if he'd just made his third mistake.

Adam escorted the Wizard along the side corridor. He purposely avoided
the main hallways to reduce the chance of exposure to his crew. As they
walked the Wizard spoke conversationally, "I have never seen such wondrous
architecture. What style is this?"
Adam could see no benefit from deceiving the man further. He answered,
"This ship is of Romulan make."
"Romulan…" the Wizard mused, "most interesting. I don't recognize the
name."
Adam replied, "I do not doubt. Their region is far from here."
The Wizard mused, "I would like to see these … Romulans."
Adam answered, "That is unlikely, sir." Then he pointed to a Turbolift
entrance. "This way, sir." They entered and Adam said, "Observation
Lounge," and the lift began to move.

The Wizard - Part Two

""He was the wizard of a thousand kings,
And I chanced to meet him one night wandering.
He told me tales and he drank my wine.
Me and my Magic Man kinda feeling fine.
He had a cloak of gold and eyes of fire,
And as he spoke, I felt a deep desire
To free the world of its fear and pain,
And help the people to feel free again."

"The Wizard" - by Uriah Heep

The Wizard flinched slightly as the Turbolift began moving and Adam spoke
to calm him, "We are merely riding a carriage along a shaft. To walk to the
Observation Lounge would be too far."
"Just how big is this ship of yours, Commander?" the Wizard asked.
Again, the android answered without pausing to consider. "It is 4400 feet
in length and 56 decks." After the words were spoken, the android wondered
if it was wise to describe his vessel such.
In minutes the lift slowed and opened on the Observation Lounge. The
Wizard stepped out and gasped in awe. There hanging before him was the blue
globe of Kinloo 2 superimposed on the starfield which stretched to infinity.
Again, Adam wondered if he had chosen the right location for this interview.
Stepping over to the viewport, the Wizard reached out tentatively and
touched the transparent aluminum and muttered, "This is incredible."
Adam allowed the Wizard a few moments to gaze at the spectacular view,
then asked, "Can I get you a drink?"
The Wizard answered over his shoulder, "Sweet wine, please." Adam
repeated the order to the replicator and a small caraffe and two glasses
appeared.
Adam again had to pull the Wizard's attention back to the matter at hand.
"Sir, if you would care to sit." He pulled out one of the chairs at the long
table. The Wizard turned and sat down and the android poured the wine before
moving to the end chair and sitting also. Holding his own wine glass, even
though he did not drink, he cleared his throat and began. "As you may have
guessed, sir, I have a bit of a problem."
The Wizard sipped the wine, then smiled again, "Yes, I suppose you have.
I'm not supposed to be here and know what I now know about you, am I?"
Adam noticed how quickly the Kalarian Wizard had arrived at that
conclusion. He was a very intelligent individual. "No, sir, you are not. I
made an assumption that you had achieved your advanced technology on your own
and that you would be able to grasp our position. But you have not achieved
your technology, you found it, and you do not understand it fully. That much
is apparent by the leakage we detected on your planet. And obviously there
are many things that we possess that you do not."
"And I suppose you are bound by some directive to avoid giving us these
technological marvels?"
Again Adam was struck with the deductive power of this Wizard. "That is
correct, sir. In fact it is our Prime Directive to avoid interference with
less advanced cultures. So you see that I have a problem."
"Yes, I see your predicament, however, I don't see it as a problem. In
fact …," the Wizard nonchalantly reached into a pocket of his robe and
returned with a pinch of fine powder, "you won't see it as a problem in just
a moment." He cast the powder towards the android and muttered a few phrases
that the Universal Translator could not identify.
The dust settled on the android's skin and was immediately absorbed
through the microscopic pores and entered into the circulating lubricant and
fuel supplements that the android used for blood. The android paused a
moment, then smiled at the Wizard. "You know, you're right. It shouldn't be
a problem. We should help your people out, repair your energy leaks and
teach you how to use the technology you have. You know, it would probably be
a good
idea for us to take you to the Dinalon. They provided the technology you
have, they should be able to teach you to use it."
The Wizard smiled at the android, "Now you're speaking my language."

The Wizard - Part Three

"What'd you think I am? Do you think I'm dreaming?
Don't you know I know what it is you're scheming?
Who'd you think gave you the right, hidden by the dead of night,
To take the world and turn it upside down, when it should be round?"

"The Spell" - by Uriah Heep

The Wizard told the android, "You'll need to make sure the crew is aware
of your decision to support me and my brethren in our enlightenment. It
wouldn't do for someone to doubt your desires. Place a call to your command
deck and inform them that you and your crew will be committed to providing
exclusive information to the Wizards of Kalar in the functioning of all of
your technological marvels."
Adam replied, "Certainly. And I understand your concern. Many of them
may not fully comprehend that commitment. Some of our crew tend to be a bit
untrusting." He tapped his commbadge. "Commander Android to the Bridge."
Lieutenant Selenir answered the call, "Bridge here, go ahead Commander."
Adam continued, "Inform the Bridge Crew we will be departing from Kinloo
2. Set course for Kinloo 5. And, Lieutenant, inform Security we will be
extending full VIP privileges to our guest. He is to have full access to the
ship."
The Giocondician Lieutenant paused a moment then replied, "As you wish,
sir."
Lieutenant Hawke looked up from his Intelligence console, having overheard
the Commander's orders. "That's odd, don't you agree, Enir?"
Selenir looked across at the Fathom, "Actually, yes, I do. But the
Commander has given his orders."
Hawke turned back to his console but kept speaking, "It just seems strange
that he would completely reverse himself like that. Not like the android at
all."
"He has been behaving a little odd ever since we beamed down to the
planet."
Lieutenant KDaana joined in, "Do you think that Dadink sting might have
done something to him? Removing his arm might not have been enough. Maybe
something got into his system anyway."
Lieutenant Junior-Grade Sturek interrupted, "Well, we have to follow
orders unless the Doctor declares him unfit … I've got the course laid in, I
guess I engage?"
Selenir glanced at Hawke who simply shrugged and turned back to his work.
Selenir answered, "Break us out of orbit Mr. Sturek and take us to Kinloo 5.
And arrange for VIP quarters for our guest."
"Aye sir." Sturek answered and they pulled away from Kinloo 2.

The Wizard of Kinloo 2 has somehow learned how to control Cmd Android. The
crew realized something was terribly wrong and made valiant attempts to stop
any ongoing violations of the Prime Directive. Ella, Rolly and Voya had
worked diligently to try to separate the Commander from the Wizard under
medical grounds, but the wily Wiz caught onto the idea. Unfortunately, his
control over Cmd Android was too strong.
The science department, under KorotHSogh, had set up an encrypted program to
trick the Wizard into believing he was actually in the Dinalon Cloud City by
transporting the group chosen to accompany him there into a holodeck running
a simulation program. We were unable to utilize that plan either. Cmd
Android recognized that a mutiny was underway and in the confusion that
followed, I flooded the bridge with anesthazine gas. Fearing that the
dishonor
of violating the Prime Directive would fall on this valiant ship and crew, I
watched as the gas immobilized my crewmates but did not affect the Wizard.
First Lt Hawke attempted to secure the bridge assisted by Lt Reikson. Shane
managed to deactivate Cmd Android and also resisted the effects of the gas
long enough to realize the Wizard was immune to it. He was able to knock the
wizard out with his staff a second before I fired a disrupter into the
Wizards back ..killing him.
My actions, instead of preventing dishonor on this vessel, have brought
dishonor onto myself.

The carnaval has ended and all that remained were tents when I beamed to the
surface. In accordance with Federation Prime Directive protocols, I was
fitted in a medival suit of armor. I took no weapons with me, save a
longsword which was carried at my side. However, this created a constant
clanking against the metal armor. Daana was particularly outspoken against
the noise.
Following with the little girls directions, the AT proceeded through a dense
forest. The narrow, winding trail did not allow for much wandering; and
tactically, was unwise. The general tone was ominous. Further down the
trail, KDaana and Sel'Enir developed headaches which was later revealed to be
syntoms of radiation posioning.
After reaching a clearing, the "wizard" spoke out of nowhere, demanding the
purpose of our presence. Cmdr Android was quick to show his detached arm,
and the wizard allowed passage through a transporter-type tree. We were
transported to a dark room, lighted only by a floodlight. Daana's and Enir's
headaches got worse, almost to the point of insanity. Adam quickly contacted
the Reci to beam the AT to the castle.
In the castle, we encountered a flamboyantly dressed "wizard" who appeared
to process a high tech level. Adam invited him to the Reciprocity, unaware
that the wizard did not process warp capability, and therefore would be in
violation of the Prime Directive.

The wizard of Kinloo seem to be more capable than we previously manifested.
Although pre-warp, the wizard we took aboard was somehow able to take control
of Cmdr Adam Android. Although at the time we had no postive comfirmation
that Adam was under the wizards control, we felt he was definatly not acting
right. I too felt he was acting strangly, but had, at first, trust that Adam
could justify his actions.
My suspicions were soon met, but without concrete evidence, I could do
nothing about it. Much of the crew was already planning action, in contrary
to Starfleet protocol. I was forced to obey Adam's commands in ordanance
with protocol, but factions of the crew demanded that Adam be taken out of
command. I tried my best to stay out of the various opinions, but it was
clear action needed to be taken.
In the heat of thing, Shane Reikson tripped and "accidentally" flipped off
Cmdr Android's power switch. The rest of the crew was quick to apprehend the
wizard.

CMO Dr. Fveirrohl Cha'Riuurren
Duty Log
SD60003.4
::open log::
Over the last week the Reciprocity's crew have suffered no major injuries.
My department has successfully contained an outbreak of Denebian Type II flu
virus. Thirteen crewman were quarantined in main medical bay for several
days; all have since returned to duty and it appears the virus has run it's
course.
On a more somber note, I must report on my department's actions during the
latest Kinloo crisis. Everyone had noticed that Cmdr. Android seemed to be
acting strangely ever since the Kinloo shaman beamed aboard the ship. Some of
us, including myself, suspected at first that it was just a result of his
latest programming, but over time he seemed to spend an inordinate amount of
time with the Kinloo "ambassador", and our suspicions increased.
At last, things came to a head on the bridge when the Commander, acting on
the shaman's advice, ordered a landing party to beam down to his planet, with
the mission of instructing the aliens in modern technology. As this action
appeared to run counter to the Prime Directive and the interests of the
Klingon and Rihansu Empires also, crewman in all departments worked to devise
plans to prevent the away team operation.
In medical bay, after hearing of the Commander's latest behavior, I resolved
to meet with the other department heads in order to determine the Commander's
fitness. Unfortunately, with the Commander on the bridge, it proved
impossible to get everyone together in time to discuss plans for unified
action. I reached the bridge in time to see the situation escalate, as the
Commander, obviously under the direct influence of the "ambassador", accused
the
bridge personnel of treason and insisted that the away team be sent at once.
At this point, KDaana killed the shaman with a hand disrupter. In truth, it
was a very difficult situation, as the department heads were unable to confer
on a concerted plan of action in the presence of the Commander and the
shaman.
I wish to point out that the consequences of the shaman's plan were very
grave. Had the witch doctor succeeded, the away team would have been ordered
to give modern spacefaring technology to the primitive Kinloo, thus
undoubtedly violating your Prime Directive in a very flagrant manner. As a
medical practitioner, I must also point out the horrendous possibility that
the Denebian flu contagion could have been spread to the natives by the away
team.
It is quite possible that the natives lack effective resistance to the virus.
As an example of this danger, I need only point out the example of the spread
of smallpox to aboriginal populations on Old Earth by outsiders in the
1500's. It has been estimated by some biohistorians that the majority of the
indiginous population perished as a result.
In short, I believe that KDaana's action, if not considered a flawless
textbook solution in the eyes of Federation legal officials, nevertheless did
avert a possible tragedy of great magnitude.

The crew had been assembled in the holosuite for training and evaluation
drills. The scenario began simply enough. Investigate a distress signal.
We discovered the planet in a state of ecological and biological chaos. The
denizens infected with a fatal illness, possibly from a biological weapon.
After reviewing the protocols for entering a biohazard area, and away team
made up of Hawke, KorotH, Voya and myself beamed down...our objective was to
gather information and render humanitarian aid while simultaneously trying to
discover a cure. Things were progressing well on the surface until an armada
of ships of unknown origin appeared on the scene demanding ketrecel and
something or someone called "Vorchek". The Reci, refusing to abandon the
planets inhabitants to these aggressors, remained in orbit and engaged this
threat. The Reci was no match for the alien fleet and soon suffered major,
crippling damage. The alien fleet then proceeded to launch a massive attack
on the planet below. Their first volley destroyed an entire continent and
all it's inhabitants. The AT was stranded on the surface and prepared to
face their end with the planets indigenous race. Not a glorious way to
die...being blown to bits by an unseen enemy. No Sto-vo-kor for us as we
didnt even have the chance to strike a blow at our attackers.

I am sure the evaluations will show a need for major improvements in the area
of beating seemingly impossible odds. There was a solution somewhere...but
we did not find it in time.

Mission Briefing
SD 60003.11

EMPTY SPACE

The Reciprocity has been travelling through empty reaches of space for
several days. There has been little activity of any kind. We are running
under Standard Operating Procedures, briefly described by department as
follows:

MEDICAL:
Many of the ship's crew are due their regular check-ups. Also, with the
Counselor's return to Alpha Shift, many of the crew probably require their
Psychological Evaluations as well.

FLIGHT OPS:
Reconnaissance craft are scouting ahead about 100,000 Km beyond normal
sensor range. The Reciprocity continues to travel deeper into the Gamma
Quadrant at Warp 2.

TACTICAL:
All ship's systems are at full capability. I suggest you concentrate on
finding a method to detect cloaked ships at advanced range. The Aslan's
cloaking technology is very advanced. In the simulation they were only
detectable by minute gravimetric disturbances caused by their large masses.
This can only be detected at close range. See if you can find a way to
improve on this.

SCIENCE:
Stellar cartography is recording new star configurations every day as we
enter uncharted territory. In addition, provide any necessary assistance to
the Tactical department in discovering a way to detect cloaked vessels at
acceptable range.

INTELLIGENCE:
We have been monitoring a very weak and broken-up radio transmission which
may be several weeks or months old (the nearest star systems are many
light-days distant). It seems to be some sort of broadcast from a
pre-space-age society. See what you can decipher from it.

Engineering, Operations, and Security Departments are not represented by any
active simmers at this time. If any simmer has any plans which affect those
departments, feel free to generate NPC's and assign them appropriate tasks.

(And here's a hint: Dull Mission Briefs sometimes turn into exciting sims.)

Fvierrolh had a very busy week in the medlab. Most of the crew's physical
exams were long overdue, and the CMO was finally getting caught up. The
exams began on Monday morning, starting with the Engineering department. So
far, everyone seemed to be in good health, except for two crewmen apparently
suffering from a strange, debilitating condition.
On Tuesday Ens. Ner Vusrec walked into the healthbay, suspiciously glancing
back and forth at the doctors and nurses. Finally he was ushered to a biobed
by an orderly and told to wait for a doctor. "It had better be quick!", Mr.
Rec snapped at the orderly. "I think my condition is serious and no laughing
matter".
About a minute later the CMO walked in, glancing down at a PADD. "Oh good,
at last you're here!", the eager patient replied.
"Well, Mr....Vusrec", Fvierrolh began, reading the patient's name off of the
PADD, "How are you today?"
"I'm feeling terrible, Doctor, and you're seeing me not a moment too soon!"
"Well then, tell me about your symptoms."
"Well, it's like this, Doc...sometimes it hurts here....[pointing to his
head], but often it hurts here [pointing to his chest], but most of the time
it hurts here, here and here [pointing at various parts of his abdomen]. I'm
scared it might be ocular asphixiation, or maybe even Xenopolycythemia. What
do ya think, is it three strikes, Doc?"
The Romulan's brow furrowed as he puzzled over the patient's expression.
"Three...strikes? I don't know about that, but we'll see what the problem is
and get you your physical exam at the same time, eh, what a bargain! Oh wait,
on your PADD records, it says you've already had your physical for this
period....seven times. I must commend you for your diligence, so many
officers try to avoid their physicals..."
Fvierrohl got busy at once, running what seemed to be every test in the
book, looking for the cause of Mr. Vusrec's mysterious affliction. To his
surprise, Vusrec appeared to have an above average health level in all of the
test areas. He checked Vusrec's previous medical history and found that his
vital signs had always been high. Finally, the doctor entered his diagnosis
on the PADD.
"Well", the patient asked, "is it curtains, Doc?"
"Curtains? I don't think we need any curtains on a warbird, but if you want
some, I don't think there would be any harm caused by it."
"No, am I going to die, Doc?"
"Well, I presume you will someday, Mr. Vusrec, but if my diagnosis is
correct, at least I believe you will make medical history if your present
condition kills you", the Romulan said, smiling.
"I'm going to live?"
"Aye, it would appear so. I'm scheduling you an appointment with Counselor
Roletta, I believe she'll be able to have you feeling better in no time."
"You're the best, Doc!", the relieved patient replied.
"Of course....have a good evening, Mr. Vusrec." As Vusrec headed out the
medbay door, Fvierrolh handed the PADD to the nurse on duty. "Here, Nurse
Paine, take this PADD to the Counselor so Mr. Vusrec is scheduled an
appointment. It seems we have another epidemic on our hands, that's the third
one this week."
Nurse Paine looked concerned. "What is it, Doctor?"
"Hypochondria, I'm afraid. It seems some people are in need of a
shoreleave."

Rolly and Ens. Blade to create a formula that will ease the JH suffering.
Tactical and security are working to ensure that our humanitarian efforts do
not place the vessel and crew at risk.

Shortly before the end of the duty shift Captain Jared informed the crew that
he was being re-assigned to an undisclosed post. The crew was deeply
saddened by this announcement as Captain Jared is well respected and thought
of affectionately by all under his command. Commander Android has been named
Acting Captain and it is hoped by all the crew that he will be made permanent
Captain of the Reciprocity.

LONG-RANGE SENSOR SCANS & RECONN FLIGHT COMPILED REPORT

THE ORANDA SYSTEM

ORANDA 1:
Planetary rotation (day) is heliosynchronous (the same as its year - it has
one side always pointed towards the sun and the other always pointed away).
On the sun side are seas of molten lead and magma, on the dark side are vast
reaches of frozen nitrogen-oxygen seas (oddly enough the exact composition of
normal "air"). Signs of possible civilization along the terminator line (the
dividing line between "night" and "day").
Signs of civilization seem to span from pole to pole.
Hurricanes and tornadoes abound along the terminator line as the atmosphere
is boiled off on one side and frozen solid on the other. Only the extreme
convection currents keep any atmosphere at all on the planet as super-heated
air circulates over the frozen seas, thawing its surface and carrying the air
back around towards the sun-heated side.

ORANDA 2:
Barren rock and metallic ores, no apparent life forms, no breatheable
atmosphere. Classified as a dead planet.

ORANDA 3:
Standard Class M planet. Nitrogen-oxygen atmosphere, plentiful water and
vegetation, signs of advanced civilization.

ORANDA 4:
Dense asteroid field. Unable to penetrate with long-range sensors.
Caution is advised.

ORANDA 5:
Standard gas-giant comparable to Saturn but with no rings.

ORANDA 6:
Gas super-giant / failed star / brown dwarf similar to Jupiter.

The Reciprocity meets Saturdays at 12:00 AM Eastern in Synchronous Orbit
Mission Briefing
SD 60003.18

THE ORANDA SYSTEM

The Reciprocity will soon be entering the Oranda Star System. A
Preliminary Report of this system was previously released.
In summary, that report mentioned that the first planet had an unusual
civilization poised on the edge of uninhabitable conditions, balanced between
the burning hell of its sunward face and the frozen night of its darkside.
We will investigate this society from orbit at first, and perhaps with a
cloaked Away Team as the investigation continues.

MEDICAL:
The check-ups should be winding down. The Medical Department is urged to
analyze how a species may be affected by living on a planet with no day/night
cycle or large satellite to establish metabolic systems and sleep patterns.
Any other unusual circumstances of their biology should be investigated as
well.

FLIGHT OPS:
We will enter a geosynchronous orbit over the largest concentration of
civilization on the planet. They have no advanced technology so we should
not be detected. No exterior operations are planned for this time period.
Assist as needed.

TACTICAL:
We have recently had an encounter with renegade Jem Hadar that were out of
their much-needed Ketracel White. That encounter went well enough and there
was no threat to the Reciprocity. However, future encounters may not be.
This region of space was once under Dominion claim, so stay alert.

SCIENCE:
This mission is primarily a scientific exploration of an unusual culture
developed on what would normally have been considered an uninhabitable
planet. Much can be learned here.

INTELLIGENCE:
The radio transmission we have been monitoring may have originated in this
system. It is unlikely the civilization on the first planet would have
reached that level of technology. Continue to analyze the signal and
determine its source.

Oranda System Analysis
SD 60003.18

As noted in the preliminary reports from long range scans, this system has
two planets that show signs of civilization: Oranda 1 and 3.

Oranda 3 is a standard M class planet with an advanced civilization verging
of the edge of warp technology. A covert observation mission is planned for
within the next 2 years in preparation for First Contact.

Oranda 1 is the more interesting planet. Signs of civilization along the
terminator line have been discovered. The unique geothermal dynamics of this
heliosynchronous planet would seem to preclude the development of higher life
forms yet the initial report verifies the presence of a small population and
an extensive irrigation type grid. My own analysis of the data indicates
that it would be possible to maintain life within a very narrow (approx
20 kilometer) band along the terminator. It would involve utilizing a series
of vents, either constructed or naturally occuring, to stabilize that small
area and control environmental temperature (theory..the aformentioned series
of grids found on LR scans). Using these vents, the inhabitants could
channel heat from the sunward side towards the frigid side and vice versa.
This could, in theory, provide a somewhat stable strip of marginally
inhabitable terrain. The technology involved in maintaining such an
environment requires a firm understanding of engineering and thermodynamics,
but the severe restrictions imposed by living in such an environment preclude
development much beyond the current level. The limited space for
inhabitation means a limited population and all members of a culture like
this are needed for basic survival. There would be neither the time nor the
raw materials
needed to develop atmospheric flight, let alone warp capability.

Theoretical models indicate that this is an extremely fragile ecosystem. The
small area of inhabitable land combined with a small population leaves the
populace vulnerable to disease and physical weaknesses that result from close
breeding. A breakdown in the geothermic vent system could easily reduce the
population to a level they could not recover from or destroy it entirely.
Another real threat is the weather pattern. The fierce storms that
bombard the planet pose a very real threat to food supplies, dwellings and
vent systems.
Additionally, the weather patterns could be altered by any one of a number of
factors such as solar flares/winds or natural disaster on a planetary scale
(ex, severe volcanic activity or tectonic shifts). Another factor that must
be considered in evaluating the viability of this culture is that IF the
population increases too much, it will exceed the environments ability to
sustain all of it's members. Anthropological studies of many other cultures
living in extremely hostile environments have shown that overpopulation often
leads to the development of rather barbaric practices including, but not
limited to,
cannibalism and ritual death cults.

This culture, though possessing limited potential for advancement, is worthy
of further detailed study for a variety of reasons. Their ability to adapt
and survive in such a hostile environment demonstrates a resiliency that is
noteworthy. Their system for maintaining an area of habitable land could
prove valuable to our scientists, terra-forming and colonization teams. Most
importantly though, is the issue of where these people came from. Oranda 1
does not have enough inhabitable land to have allowed a higher species to
develop naturally here. Oranda 3 does not currently possess the ability to
colonize such a hostile planet and their probes are not sensitive enough to
even detect signs of civilization on Oranda 1. The presence of this
population on Oranda 1 suggests that they were transplanted or seeded there
sometime in the far past. Perhaps by intent..perhaps by accident. Either
way, their presence is a mystery. Discovering who they are and where they
came
from may only be possible by interacting with them in their own environment.
Under the dictates of the Prime Directive, if they ARE indeed a transplanted
population and are aware of that fact, Star Fleet and the Federation may be
able to assist them openly....even to the point of offering them a home on a
planet less hostile. This would enable them to progress from a stagnating
(and ultimately doomed) culture to one capable of advancement and higher
development.

The information contained in this report is preliminary and will be updated
as more data becomes available.

Reporting: FstLt. Cannon Hawke

The ISS Reciprocity arrives to the first planet of the Oranda System to
investigate the unusual civilization balanced between the burning hell of its
sunward face and the frozen night of its darkside. And away team was
prepared, consisting of El'Arrian "Rolly" Cha'Riuurren, Koroth Sogh, and
First Lieutenant Cannon Hawke. Due to the vast unknowns of the civilization,
and to maintain the Prime Directive, the away team was send down via cloaked
shuttle using minimal thrusters. After a crash landing and ice climbing
through a storm, the team was able to find shelter in an animal barn.
Meanwhile above, a Jem Hadar raider group, possible the same ones who
demanded Ketracel White a mere week before, opened fire on the mighty
Reciprocity. The following skirmish was fierce, but through the expert
handling of Lieutenant Vaugn Sel'enir, the Reci was able to drive the raiders
off.

Adam "Sparky" Android has walked the Path of Honor and was promoted to
Captain and Commanding Officer of the Reciprocity! El'Arrian Cha'Riuurren
has been appointed Acting XO, and nominated to be the permanent XO!

Before beaming down to the planet, I was able to salvage the transmissions
believed to originate form the third planet in the Odanda System. The
civilization there is believed to be advanced enough to emit strong enough
communication signals, but no evidence of warp capability has been show as of
yet. Advanced scans are underway to further determine the civilization's
capabilities.
Isolating a single signal amist a symphony of static, I was able to recover
audio output from the transmission. Sending it through the universal
translator, this was uncovered:
START TRANSMISSION:
Female voice: "Oh Stefan! I must tell you something ... Your mother's
ex-boyfriend's roommate's former dog's owner's fifth nephew, has died!"
Male voice: "What?" (Weeping sounds) "Noooooo....!"
Second male voice: "To be continued next week."
END TRANSMISSION.
It is inferred then that the transmission is a form of entertainment used by
the Orandian inhabitants, perhaps similar to the "soap operas" popular in the
Earth 20th and 21st Century. I must conclude then, that the Orandian
inhabitants are extremely dangerous, and caution is advised.
Infomation will be released as it comes in.

Captain's Log, Stardate 60003.22

Adam Android stood in the vast spaces of the Captain's Quarters of the
modifed Romulan Warbird, the ISS Reciprocity. He still could not believe she
was all his now. He gazed out the viewports at the unusual planet below.
They were on the edge now, pushing into previously uncharted territory. They
had become explorers, pushing the envelope of the three major Empires of the
Alpha Quadrant. Adam was so excited he could hardly contain
himself.
The words of the former Captain of the Reciprocity, Jared St. Cloud,
echoed in Adam's positronic matrix, "to be the first of the Federation to
delve into the deepest mysteries of the Gamma Quadrant. Soon, very soon,
they would make history." Adam vowed to live up to the legacy of his mentor.
His ship would make history. And it would start today.
The android turned from his windows and spoke, "Computer, begin new log."
The computer responded with its usual, "Log open, you may begin when
ready."
Adam began:

Captain's Log, Stardate 60003.22, the Oranda System. We are currently in
geosynchronous orbit over the first planet of this system. Our initial scans
indicate the presence of a remarkable civilization poised on the line between
two uninhabitable extremes.
Our Sciences Department has speculated that it would seem that this planet
would not have ordinarily evolved a lifeform capable of civilization, the
environment is just not stable enough. They speculate that perhaps this
civilization was seeded here, or in fact may have been marooned here. If it
is the latter, we are bound by our Humanitarian mission to provide them with
relief, or a means to escape.
But if they did in fact evolve here, in spite of the odds against it, we
are bound by the Prime Directive not to upset their natural evolution, even
if that evolution is for their civilization to fail.
To determine the origin of the species requires a closer observation than
can be made from orbit, especially in light of the frequent violent storms
caused by the extremes to either side of the terminator line. I have
determined to send down an Away Team in a cloaked Romulan shuttle and wearing
holographic-emitter stealth suits to avoid detection. El'Arrain Riuurren,
First Lieutenant Hawke, and Koroth Sogh went down to the planet.
But shortly after they'd entered the atmosphere, we had a run-in with a
band of renegade Jem Hadar. We had recently encountered some who had run out
of Ketracel White. When the Founders genetically engineered the Jem Hadar,
they designed them to be addicted to this drug in order to assure their
unswerving loyalty. With the War over and the Founders in exile, the supply
of the drug has sharply declined. The Federation was given the formula for
Ketracel, and we can produce it now, but I believe to many renegade Jem Hadar
that makes us a target.
In any event, we had a short firefight with the raiders. Lieutenant
Sel'Enir took charge of Flight Operations in the absence of Lieutenant
Reikson, and launched several Blackwidow Fighters to engage the Jem Hadar.
He also used the Reciprocity's weaponry where he could, the raiders were
highly maneuverable and it was difficult to track and target them, thus the
need for the Blackwidows. Lieutenant Sel'Enir has suggested an upgrade to the
Reciprocity's weapons systems to improve their performance, I will have to
look into that.
It is my unfortunate duty to relay my deepest sympathies to the family and
friends of Ensign Kenny Redshirt. He was killed when his bridge console
exploded. His associates Stan and Kyle were there to witness the event. We
all agree he died valiantly manning his post.
On a lighter note, since I have received my appointment to be Captain of
this most excellent vessel, I was in need of a First Officer. I have decided
that in spite of the cultural difficulties involved, our fine Chief Medical
Officer, El'Arrain Doctor Fvielrolh Cha'Riuurren, would be an excellent
choice. I have sent a subspace communique' to Starfleet Command and the
Rihannsu Imperial Military requesting his official assignment, but in
anticipation of its approval I have appointed him Acting First Officer.
Also, in order to provide a strong Command Staff, I have abolished the
rotating nature of the Second Officer post and assigned First Lieutenant
Hawke that position permanently.
And I believe that will suffice for my first log as Captain of the
Reciprocity. Computer, end log.

After Mr. Hawke pulled off a very difficult landing we quickly dismounted
and headed for a humanoid settlement located in a mountainous region. We used
holographic camoflauge suits to hide our presence from the inhabitants, who
may be unaware of the existence of spacefaring civilizations. We approached
through a ravine as the storm worsened.
Suddenly we received a communication from the Captain that Reciprocity was
in imminent danger, and communications had to be cut during the emergency. It
appears the ship may be under attack. At this moment we are preparing to make
the final climb to the humanoid settlement, to ascertain whether the species
originated on this unlikely world or was a colony seeded by a spacefaring

THE ORANDA SYSTEM

CONDITION: GREEN

The Reciprocity is in orbit about Oranda One. We have sent down an Away
Team in a cloaked Romulan Shuttlecraft to investigate the civilization
present on this inhospitable planet. The Away Team consists of El'Arrain
Manek "Rolly" Riuurren, First Lieutenant Cannon Hawke, and Koroth Sogh.
The Shuttle is known to have encountered violent atmospheric storms on its
descent, but due to an untimely attack by a band of renegade Jem Hadar
raiders (which we defeated but not without damage and casualties), we have
lost contact with the Away Team. A few of the Jem Hadar escaped into warp.
The Away Team is using holographic stealth-suits to prevent detection by
the populace. These suits also interfere with the Reciprocity being able to
pick up on their lifesigns and/or commbadges.
Atmospheric scanners show that a powerful storm moved in from the darkside
of the planet shortly after our Shuttle should have landed. The storm
brought howling winds, heavy snow and plummeting temperatures. We on the
Reciprocity can only hope our Team found shelter. The storm seems to be
winding down now. It seems that weather phenomenon here are violent but
brief.

AWAY TEAM:
Your mission, should you decide to accept it, is to observe the humanoid
civilization in this village and try to determine if the civilization is
native to the planet, or somehow marooned or seeded here. Should it be
determined the humanoids were marooned, the Prime Directive will no longer
apply and our Humanitarian Aid mission comes into effect. You will make
every effort to contact the ship before exposing yourselves to the populace.

RECIPROCITY:

MEDICAL:
There was moderate damage to many of the outer hull areas of the ship
during the attack by the Jem Hadar. Many non-serious injuries resulted,
mostly broken bones and contusions. There are a few serious cases that are
being treated. In addition, a Viridon civilian working in maintenance was
almost crushed when a piece of a bulkhead blew out. He is in critical
condition and probably requires surgery.

FLIGHT OPS:
We have a single short-range reconn squad out to keep a wide-area
look-out for any Jem Hadar or other hostiles that may be in the area. While
on guard, we are not in a state of Alert.

TACTICAL:
The recent battle with Jem Hadar raiders damaged a few systems and
depleted some of our energy stores. Phaser and Disruptor power is reduced to
only 80% capacity. Forward Starboard Torpedo tubes are offline and a few of
the Gatling-Lasers are out of alignment. A Recon squad is out (see under
Flight Ops). We are *not* under any state of Alert at the moment.

SCIENCE:
This mission is primarily a scientific exploration of an unusual
culture developed on what would normally have been considered an
uninhabitable planet. We must determine for certain if the civilization
found on this planet originated here or whether they are the result of an
accidental marooning. Note that even if the civilizaton was seeded here, it
falls under the Prime Directive as far as its development is concerned.

Engineering, Operations, and Security Departments are not represented by any
active simmers at this time. The Intelligence Department is only represented
by Mr. Hawke, who is on the Away Team. If any simmer has any plans which
affect those departments, feel free to generate NPC's and assign them
appropriate tasks.

The away team consisting of Rolly, Hawke and KorotH (codenames: M'oH, La'Ri
and K'erLI) has survived the surface storm and is continuing on their covert
investigation of the inhabitants of Oranda 1 as the remaining crew onboard
the Reciprocity attempted to devise a way to track their movements. The plan
to infiltrate the natives and discover who they are and where they originated
had been progressing well until the Reciprocity lost contact with
them during a Jem Hadar attack. Now, the high-tech camouflage suits the AT
are utilizing, combined with surface meteorological conditions and system
damage on Reciprocity makes it very difficult to reestablish contact.

Lt. Sturek has developed a plan to cause the AT's holo-camouflage suits to
emit a low frequency radiation field by directing a modified tachyon burst
at their last known coordinates thus allowing us to track them.
Cpt Android has ordered the plan be held until all other options are ruled
out due to concern that the radiation generated may cause further
difficulties for the AT. By boosting Reci's communication reception and
focusing and the AT's inter-suit frequency of 1534mghz,
we were able to tap into their personal comm transmissions. Communications
were sketchy but confirmed they had data establishing that the inhabitants of
Oranda 1 are a transplanted people and that they are aware of this fact.
Once this information was obtained, the AT returned to their damaged shuttle
and was able to make orbit and rejoin with the Reciprocity.

Medical Department, under command of Dr Voya is busy with Viridon survivors
and she, along with Doc Rolly, will be responsible for the analysis of the
DNA samples taken from the inhabitants. This information will be the key to
us confirming any emergent theories on the planet of origin of the Oranda 1
settlers.

Fighter Commander Reikson has his fighters out patrolling the region for
signs of further Jem Hadar activity. In their search, they discovered an
abandoned colony transport type vessel. The Reciprocity will be
investigating the derelict with the hopes of gaining further insight into
these hardy people. Hopefully, the fighters will be able to keep any roving
JH fighters from accessing or destroying the derelict

Science is analyzing the little information that can be gleaned from the
fighter's scans of the derelict and anxiously awaiting the reports from the
AT's surface investigation. Already, they have compiled a list of potential
homeworlds based on the small amount of data gleaned from listening in to the
AT's personal comms while on the surface. Search parameters include 1)
ability to sustain a carbon based, air breathing populace. 2) Marginal
environmental conditions. 3) Evidence of recent widespread military
activity. 4) Technological development sufficient to allow the construction
of warp capable colony transport vessels. 5) Location within the extrapolated
regions that this transport vessel could potentially travel from, considering
level of technology, sustainable velocity and amount of hull damage. 5)
Availability of materials needed to construct the aforementioned vessels.

THE ORANDA SYSTEM

CONDITION: GREEN

The Reciprocity is still in orbit about Oranda One. Our Away Team
reported that there is substantial evidence to support the idea that the
inhabitants of this inhospitable planet were marooned here possibly two
generations ago (the original space-faring people are grandparents). This
means that the Prime Directive no longer applies as they are (or were) a
space-faring race.
That brings up the question of how we approach them with offers of
humanitarian aid and diplomatic negotiations. The population of the entire
planet is more than the Reciprocity can transport, so other options are
requested. Perhaps we only need to make their life here a bit more
comfortable.
The derelict craft the Reconn Teams discovered is being held in our
Shuttle Bay. It has been determined to have been a colony transport ship
that apparently had an engine blow. Much of the rear sections of the craft
were gone and the rest had been exposed to vacuum for too long to be repaired
and made spaceworthy again. The electrical componets were frozen solid and
crystallized, so we have been unable to access their computer systems.
However, we were able to determine the people were a hardy, warlike society,
much like Klingons, from a planet with two large moons. They apparently
escaped by using lifecraft.

However, two officers failed to show up for duty, an Ensign Ian Hooley and
an Ensign Voya Banclain-Teris. Upon warning via com link, they remained

At approximately 0030 hours was fire drill was run. The crew was run

missed, and unsurprisingly, it was Hooley and Voya. On closer inspection,
Lt. Daana discoved the two playing choochy face. They were promptly givin
administrative punishment:
1. Suspension of holodeck privileges for 48 hours. (This however, would be
void due to the fact that the couple had spent the past 48 hours together in

2. 5 days of swab duty for the Klingon changing and rest rooms. The command

ISS Reciprocity
ASCI Officers Log
SD 60004.15
Lt KDaana

The Reciprocity crew had just finished the ceremony to celebrate Rolly's
promotion to Commander and XO of this fine vessel when we received a distress
call from an unknown vessel. They related they were under attack from the
Aslans who were demanding the "vordock".
The transmission abruptly ended and the Reciprocity is en route to their last
known location. In order to expedite the journey, we have been ordered to
cross the Ianda nebula.

My preliminary scans have shown this to be a Mutara Class Emission Nebula
composed mainly of ionized hydrogen particles with helium, carbon, argon,
xenon and interstellar silicate dust grains. The composition of this type of
nebula is unremarkable but the presence of a nearby O-type star radiating
strong amounts of ultra-violet light generates high levels of
photo-ionization and secondary fluorescence. The gases within the nebula
absorb this UV
radiation and re-emit it at lower visable light frequencies.

EM spectrum sensor arrays have extremely limited range in these nebulae. In
the area of ~100 metres on visual, UV and soft X-Ray bands.
Collisions between plasma fields cause excessive amounts of thermal noise
which renders infra-red and microwave sensors unreliable and frequently
inoperable.

Navigation and flight vectoring are further complicated by two nebula based
hazards. The first is Cosmic Masers, regions of concentration of water and
other molecules that act as natural amplifiers of radio and microwaves. The
second and more severe threat is present in the form of Rogue Plasma Shock
Waves. These shock waves are generated by the chaotic interaction of nebular
EM fields with the galactic magnetic field. The shock
wave results when a high pressure wave in a medium (gas, liquid or solid)
travels faster than the speed of sound within that same medium. These Rogue
waves are unpredictable and are the suspected cause of loss of many vessels
within nebulae.

Science Recommendations:

Our current options are limited. We do have some enhanced sensor
capabilities that will extend sensor range to approximately 1500 meters.
In addition, I suggest launching a series of automated probes to bolster our
sensor range and gather data on nebular composition and plasma movement.
The effective range of these probes will not allow the Reciprocity enough
warning to avoid Rogue Waves but it may provide sufficient time to allow us
to "turn into" approaching waves thus increasing the odds of surviving the
impact.
The final recommendation is to shut down all but essential ships systems
(propulsion, sensors, life support). This will minimize damage resulting
from encounters with the aforementioned phenomena.
